An album pin is a lapel pin with artwork inspired by a specific album or song from an album. It could be the actual album artwork or it could be inspired by a specific track on the album. The best album pins stand out on their own. They appeal to more than just your fans. It is simple, bold, and visually engaging. However, what truly makes it an “album pin” is that the purchaser also gets a digital album with their pin. I have an entire blog on my website with details including templates for you to make your own album pin jacket.

A new radio documentary, 35 Years of GCN, produced by Shaun & Maurice for Documentary and Drama on Newstalk, explores the story of Ireland's LGBTQ+ community through the pages of Ireland's longest-running free LGBTQ+ publication and press. The story of GCN (Gay Community News) is also the story of LGBTQ+ rights, history, and culture in Ireland. Since 1988, the magazine has reflected and documented the lives and lived experiences of LGBTQ+ people. The first issue of GCN was published from a small office at the top of the Hirschfield Centre in Dublin's Temple Bar, and since then it has been at the heart of the LGBTQ+ community.35 Years of GCN explores some of the LGBTQ+ stories captured by the magazine. The programme features an interview with Tonie Walsh who co-founded GCN with Catherine Glendon during the height of the AIDS epidemic. It features an interview with Senator David Norris about the foundation of GCN in the same year that he won his case against the Irish government at the European Court of Human Rights (which ruled the existence of laws in Ireland criminalising consensual gay sex to be illegal). The documentary also features interviews with former GCN editors Brian Finnegan and Lisa Connell, about the struggles and celebrations that have been documented by the nation's LGBTQ+ paper of record—including the introduction of civil partnership, the passing of both the marriage and abortion referendums, and the introduction of the gender recognition act.The programme was produced with funding from the Coimisiún na Meán Sound and Vision scheme.

Tom Morley emailed around St Patrick's Day: "Marc, Our Chattanooga - based band Stringer's Ridge played a concert on St. Patrick's Day at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC. (I am there on the faculty at the famous folk arts school usually once a year teaching beginning or intermediate Irish Fiddle.) We had a wonderful crowd and it was a great way to spend the best Irish day of the year! I am enclosing several photos of us at the historic Keith House where we put on the concert. (Tom Morley - fiddle, Fran Morley - bodhran, Bryant Haynes - guitar) Thanks for all you do to promote Irish trad music!" STRINGER'S RIDGE Marilyn S. Hansen sent a photo about Easter Rising Band: "14 seminarians got together years ago in St. Louis and developed an Irish band. Most of them are married now. They play at each other's weddings, but they also have regular gigs. The interesting part is how their kids take part… This is last year‘s celebration. I was out of town this year celebrating my sister's birthday the day before St. Patrick's Day. Thought I'd send you last year's photo. I'll send you a few that they've sent to me for this year. EASTER RISING BAND Pete Watson emailed St Pat's photos: "Hi Marc, The Bookends had a fabulous time playing a number of shows throughout Ontario around St. Patrick's Day.Attached is a photo of Miriam (left) and Cait (right) on St. Paddy's Day for our gig at The Rec Room, Toronto, with our regular special guest bodhrán player extraordinaire, Romano Di Nillo.Romano is just back from 4+ years with Come From Away on Broadway and we were so glad to have him with us for these shows. The venue was handing out some "paddywhackery" to attendees and these 3 couldn't resist putting some on!" THE BOOKENDS-PETE WATSON Bruce Cummings, a Piper emailed a photo: "Hey Marc!Just to say how much I enjoy listening to the Celtic music you provide. You asked for pictures from St. Patrick's Day 2023, so here's a couple. I am part of the Lane Fire Brigade Pipes and Drums in Eugene Ore. We had a great weekend piping in the area.Keep up the good work!" BRUCE CUMMINGS PIPER Jim O'Connor of Boston Blackthorne emailed a photo: "Hi Marc -hope you had a fabulous holiday! Boston Blackthorne played 3 nights in Western MA, centered around St Patrick's Day as well as the big parade (the nation's oldest) in Holyoke MA.We played to crowded enthusiastic fans in Northampton MA and Holyoke MA.But perhaps the best gig (and story) was the one that arose spontaneously back in the lobby of our hotel after our St Pat's evening show. The hotel lobby is most frequently empty but this night is was crowded with about 100 boisterous folks from Minnesota, visiting Massachusetts to support a Women's college Hockey team. We were approached by the unofficial spokesperson who pointed at our guitar and fiddle and asked, “Can you really play those?” I answered of course we can, and this is your lucky night! Not only has your party been invaded by musicians, we are an Irish band and this is St Patrick's Day! We proceeded to unpack our instruments and did a set of singalongs like Charlie on the MTA for the Boston connection.Halfway through the set our wives came into the lobby -my wife grumbled to Pete's wife, “This party is going to keep us up all night!”Pete's wife Maureen looked a little closer and exclaimed, “Hey that's Jim and Pete in the center of it all!”They joined the fray, we had the best gig of the year playing for this group of strangers from the Midwest, wonderful folks who doubtless went home with a great tale and the definition of the work “Craic!” JIM OCONNOR

Episode 213: Support the Working Life Network here: www.patreon.com/WorkingLifePodcast ActBlue: secure.actblue.com/donate/working-life-1 “Bi-partisanship” is an idea that should make everyone sick to their stomach. When someone is out to kill you, or your nation and community, making a deal for the sake of “bi-partisanship” or, its related political spineless copout “compromise”, makes no sense when the end result is injustice and a worsening of our lives. That’s what I start out with today—a topic I also wrote about in my new newsletter, which you can subscribe to here. Quick, who said just a couple of days ago: “We believe that $15-an-hour is the minimum that anyone in the U.S. should earn for an hour of labor” and, then, demanded that Congress raise the minimum wage to $15-an-hour. If you said Bernie Sanders, wrong! Though of course he does believe this. It was…wait for this…Amazon. Support the Working Life Network here: www.patreon.com/WorkingLifePodcast ActBlue: secure.actblue.com/donate/working-life-1 That’s a direct result of union and community pressure on Amazon. Thousands of workers are trying to get a union at Amazon’s huge warehouse in Bessemer Alabama. The ballots have just been mailed and we get an update on the organizing campaign from a good friend of the show Dave Mertz, vice president at the Retail, Wholesale & Department Store Union, which is seeking to represent the workers. Since the coup in Myanmar on February 1st, the Myanmar trade union movement is taking a leading role in protest and strike actions against the military and is calling for international solidarity actions. There is a global solidarity day coming up Thursday, February 11th. So, to give everyone an update and what to do to support our sisters and brothers in Myanmar, I’m joined by Brian Finnegan, the Global Worker Rights Coordinator at the International Department of the AFL-CIO. -- Jonathan Tasini Follow me on Twitter @jonathantasini Subscribe to the YouTube show, Working Life at: https://www.youtube.com/WorkingLifewithJonathanTasini Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/jonathan.tasini.3

Chickie's & Pete's, also known as the taste of Philadelphia sports, is a company full of history. The Chickie’s & Pete’s hometown flavor has expanded to 12 locations across Philadelphia and New Jersey and was voted ESPN’s #1 Sports Bar on the East Coast. Episode 191: China’s leaders and wealthy elites are willing partners of global capitalism, opening up its doors, willingly, to Wal-Mart and huge multinational companies so those companies can produce trillions of dollars of stuff using cheap slave labor—in good capitalist style. Since 2017, China has been conducting a steady campaign of mass transfer of more than a million Uyghurs and members of other Muslim minorities into a vast network of ‘re-education camps’ in the far west region of Xinjiang, which Uyghur activists call “east Turkestan”. Support the Working Life Network here: www.patreon.com/WorkingLifePodcast and at ActBlue: secure.actblue.com/donate/working-life-1 Think of the Japanese internment camps in the U.S. during WWII or apartheid in South Africa—the key difference, is that this is being driven a lot by the thirst of global capitalism for cheap, slave labor. Tens of thousands of Uyghurs are being forced to work in factories that are in the supply chains of at least 83 well-known global brands in the technology, clothing and automotive sectors, including Apple, BMW, Gap, Huawei, Nike, Samsung, Sony and Volkswagen. Tomorrow, a worldwide call will be issued by 71 Uyghur rights groups and over 100 civil society organizations and labor unions from around the world demanding that apparel brands and retailers stop using the forced labor. Rahima Mahmut, a Uyghur singer, award-winning translator, and human rights activist who is living in exile in London, and Brian Finnegan, the Global Worker Rights Coordinator in the International Department of the AFL-CIO, join the show to talk about the campaign. Amazon paid zero taxes in 2017 and 2018, despite having huge profits and, lo and behold, Amazon is making a big deal out of paying taxes in 2019—a whopping 1.2 percent of its $13 billion in profits. One of the reasons these very rich people and corporations can scam us is the careful, relentless undermining of the IRS. And Congress has been the willing tool for that anti-IRS campaign, cutting its budgets year after year. What that means is simple: rich people and corporations don’t pay what they should because they know the IRS can’t keep pace with the armies of lawyers hired by rich people and corporations to dodge and avoid taxes. Hundreds of billions of dollars go unpaid and about 70 percent of that “underpayment”—which is a euphemism for dodging—is by the top one percent. A week after Tax Day, Amy Hanauer, executive director of the Institute for Taxation and Economic Policy, talks with me about the IRS and who is not paying taxes (alert: the tax dodger list won’t shock you!) Canadian Singer-songwriter Emily Jean Flack weaves together elements of pop and jazz and her celtic folk roots to produce a piano driven sound that is all her own. Emily is just about to release her first E.P. of original songs “Throwing Shapes”. The new album was recorded in Belfast, Northern Ireland, with producer Peter Wallace and a group of Irish musicians that included whistle and flute player Brian Finnegan from the band Flook and Limerick based guitarist Marty Barry. This month’s Q+A is an unmissable, in-depth interview with legendary LGBT+ rights activist Peter Tatchell. One of the first out gay men to stand for election in Britain, Tatchell has been campaigning for human rights vociferously and courageously for nearly half a century. Peter began his gay activism by joining the Gay Liberation Front in England in 1969, and was one of the organisers of the first Pride march in London in 1972. In the 1990s he co-founded the gay rights direct action group, Outrage!, which was involved in the infamous ‘outing’ campaigns of the mid-90s. He attempted a citizen's arrest of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe in 1999 and again in 2001. He’s campaigned on many different fronts, and often put himself in danger. In June he was detained in Russia after staging a one-man protest against Russia’s treatment of LGBT people, and most recently he’s been campaigning for compensation for gay men who were pardoned after being convicted under Britain’s laws against homosexuality. From human rights in Syria to Gaza, Iran to Russia, and across the globe, there is little that escapes Peter Tatchell’s attention, and action. Here chats to Q+A’s Brian Finnegan about his life and times, and overcoming fear to put himself in harm’s way for other people’s human rights.
In this episode of Q+A, GCN’s Queer and Alternative podcast, we meet the legendary American novelist, historian, playwright, and early chronicler of the AIDS crisis, Sarah Schulman. The author of 11 novels, six non-fiction books, and two plays, as an activist and organiser, Schulman joined ACT UP in 1987. She co-founded the Lesbian Avengers, was a key organiser for the Irish Lesbian and Gay Organisation's efforts to march in the New York Saint Patrick's Day Parade; and with Jim Hubbard created the ACT UP Oral History Project. “I’m super jet-lagged but maybe that will make me freer,” Sarah says as she sits down in our podcast studio with GCN editor, Brian Finnegan, to discuss (among a lot of other things) how coming from a holocaust family fused her love of writing and passion for activism together, the problem with religious fundamentalism in Trump’s America, activism in the age of the hashtag and the t-shirt, the growing criminalisation of HIV positive people across the world, and the possibility that her 30 year-old her lesbian detective novel, After Dolores may become a movie. Music by Will St Leger and Faune
In this very special episode of Q+A, GCN’s Queer and Alternative podcast, we’re celebrating 30 years of publication for GCN, which was co-founded by activist Tonie Walsh in 1988 as a free information service for a pre-Internet queer community. Three decades on, Q+A host and current editor Brian Finnegan sits down to chat with Walsh about the beginnings of Ireland’s gay press in a burnt out building in Dublin’s Temple Bar, and how GCN has evolved between then and now. They’re joined by Deborah Ballard, who edited the publication in the mid-90s, for lots of laughter, reminiscence, great stories, and general chit-chat about the oldest free LGBT+ community publication in the world. Music by Will St Leger and Faune

You can send a written comment along with a picture of what you're doing while listening. Email a voicemail message to celticpodcast@gmail.com Kerrydan tweeted a picture: "Hi Marc! Really loved listening to this instrumental show on my brisk lunchtime walk along the Red River in Winnipeg, Canada. In between tracks, you'd swear you could hear the ghosts of Scottish and Métis fiddles joining in." Nash from the UK emailed: "Hey Marc, Tried to confirm my subscription and although I am taken to the “thanks for subscribing” page, I still have not had the sign up email / zip for the albums. Waited a few hours, put your address in the contacts, but no joy yet. Maybe there are some leprechauns at work....? Nice podcast – just a suggestion. Could you put the tracklist / artist in the show notes? It’s great that you play a few songs back to back to not interrupt them, but by the time you then announce the artist / track name, I sometimes struggle to match them up." Hey Nash, thanks so much for writing. If you signed up to the email list and did NOT get an email back, I'd suggest you check your spam folder or trash. I don't know what those leprechauns are up to, but they can be troublesome with email. One more suggestion for everyone who is subscribed, reply to one of the magazine emails. That will hopefully insure that future emails go straight to your inbox and not to your gmail promotions or anything like that. As for the podcast suggestion, Nash, everything you mentioned is there. If you look at your podcatcher, you should be able to find all of the tracks and time listings for the artists in the show. If you can't find them there, please let me know. But you can also find them on our website at celticmusicpodcast.com Jim & Judy Wolfe emailed about the Flute/Whistle special idea: "Hey Marc, been listening for many years and one band I discovered on the podcast that fits the bill is Flook. Sarah Allen’s flute, and Brian Finnegan’s whistle are great examples for you to consider. Keep up the good work." A few episodes back, I suggested a flute/whistle episode might be in order. So I decided to set that up as our new Patreon Milestone. We are thirty dollars away from a 2-hour Celtic Flute & Whistle special. Chrissy Willow emailed: "Hey, Marc! I followed your podcasts years ago until Google Listen was retired and lost track of you. I'm so glad to see your podcasts on Google Play and have begun following again! The reason I write is because I'm trying to locate a song you played years ago. It was a ballad of a woman who walks the strand and calls up storms to dash the sailors' ships on the rocks. I've searched all over the place but can't find it, and can't remember enough of the lyrics to help. Thus, I'm hoping you might remember the song. Thank you so much for bringing such wonderful Irish music to my life. Have a lovely Saint Patrick's Day!"
For this month’s Q+A podcast, we sat down for the fat chats with Michelle Visage, who just happened to be here to film Ireland’s Got Talent. She wanted to talk to GCN from the outset, and she had things to get off her chest, especially in the light of Trump’s America. “What I loved most about Michelle was the way she focused all her attention on getting her message about inclusivity across,” says editor, Brian Finnegan, who sits behind the mic. “In her role on RuPaul’s Drag Race she’s a mentor to many queer men who’ve been rejected by their families, and as that show is broadcast across the world, she’s become kind of beacon to LGBT’s [...]
