Cosa succede in Romania?

Buried in an unmarked grave in Romania. Obviously, I am not. God had other plans.” A must-read for all generations, Saving My Assassin is the unforgettable account of one woman's search for truth, her defiance in the face of evil, and a surprise encounter that proves without a shadow of a doubt that nothing is impossible with God. At just under five feet VirginiaProdan was no match for the towering 6' 10" gun-wielding #assassin the #Romanian government sent to her office to take her life. It was not the first time her life had been threatened―nor would it be the last. As a young #attorney under Nicolae Ceausescu's brutal communist regime, Virginia had spent her entire life searching for the truth. When she finally found it in the pages of the most forbidden book in all of Romania, Virginia accepted the divine call to defend fellow followers of #Christ against unjust persecution in an otherwise ungodly land. For this act of treason, she was #kidnapped, #beaten, #tortured, #placed under house #arrest, and came within seconds of being executed under the orders of Ceausescu himself. How Virginia not only managed to elude her enemies time and again, but how she also helped expose the appalling secret that would ultimately lead to the demise of Ceausescu's #evil #empire is one of the most extraordinary stories ever told.              Don't miss out on this incredible memoir - Saving My Assassin by VirginiaProdan .

Today I talked to Traian Sandu about his book Ceausescu: Le dictateur ambigu (Perrin, 2023).  Born in January 1918, Nicolae Ceauşescu began his apprenticeship in Bucharest and discovered the social struggle and its repression at the age of fifteen within the Romanian Communist Party. In 1948, the Stalinist Gheorghiu-Dej, his mentor, having taken power, he took the opportunity to quickly climb the ranks of the party and the state. Installed in power in March 1965, Ceauşescu inherited the policy of his predecessor: avoiding de-Stalinization by playing the nationalist card. Its beginnings were popular thanks to a certain cultural liberalization, the beginning of a consumer society and an opening towards the West. However, the oil shocks and the détente between the United States and the Soviet Union in the mid-1970s deprived him of the resources needed to pursue his policy.  His role as a bridge between East and West, his industrialization policy based on Western capital and technologies and his popularity within Romanian society collapsed at the turn of the 1980s. The beginning of social and political opposition (strikes and dissidence), the decision to repay the debt to Western institutions (IMF and World Bank) which led to cruel shortages and the end of the Cold War with the arrival of Gorbachev sounded the death knell for his regime which collapsed in three days in December 1989. The one who called himself the "genius of the Carpathians", or even the "Danube of thought", was executed with his wife, Elena, at the end of a particularly hasty trial, ending a strange revolution in which many saw the hand of the Soviet "big brother". Between autocratic drift and reformist desires, nationalism and submission to the USSR, growing paranoia and all-consuming megalomania, the man remained a mystery. Learn more about your ad choices. Testo e voce: Paolo ColomboCura editoriale, musiche e sound design: Andrea Franceschi.Editing: Daniele VaschiComunicazione e marketing: Arianna FainaDesign director: Laura CattaneoIllustrazione: Giorgio De MarinisProduzione: Il Sole 24 Ore

In the season finale of our 11th Season, we have the equivalent of the "Who Shot J.R.?" episode of DALLAS mixed with all the excitement of the end of a Roger Moore "James Bond" movie. In the second part of our look at "A Bloody Christmas" we look back at the suddenly swift, and deadly fall of Romanian Dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu.  He had been the absolute ruler of the nation of Romania for nearly 25 years. In that time, he had been the Communist Ruler with at least some good relations with the West because he had often been at odds with his fellow Communist in the Soviet Union.  He had even condemned the invasion of Czechoslovakia. Inside his country he had ruled with an iron hand, and a well armed secret police force and as Ted Koppel would say he had created an atmosphere where it was as insane as having an insane asylum run by the inmates.  Romania under Ceausescu was every bit as bleek and foreboding a place as the Dracula mythology had portrayed it to the world.  Then suddenly, after a bloody confrontation in the town of Timisoara, while the dictator was mid sentence in one of his long speeches on the balcony of the Palace of the Parliament, the people rose up, Ceausescu panicked and fled, and the country plunged into absolute chaos in what would be the only bloody revolution amongst all the Communist collapses in Eastern Europe.   This episode, using an extraordinary ABC News Special Report by Ted Koppel titled "The Death of a Dictator" and mixed with contemporary news reports, and interviews with historians, we will tell this most incredible, almost to strange not to be fiction tale of the fall of Nicolae Ceaușescu , from the panicked speech , to the frantic helicopter escape, to the car chase with two stolen cars, and finally the three hour trial and immediate execution. This is an incredibly wild ride through the history of the bloodiest revolution during the communist collapse that changed the World.  A link to the video "The Death of a Dictator " by Ted Koppel of ABC News is available in the chapters section  Questions or comments at , Randalrgw1@aol.com , https://twitter.com/randal_wallace , and http://www.randalwallace.com/Please Leave us a review at wherever you get your podcastsThanks for listening!!

Orange Jesus is a term coined not by democrats, but by Republicans themselves. In her new book entitled “Oath and Honor”, former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) describes a scene in which a fellow House member called former President Trump “Orange Jesus.” Cheney says that while in the GOP cloakroom in the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, members were encouraged to sign onto electoral vote objection sheets: “Among them was Republican Congressman Mark Green of Tennessee. As he moved down the line, signing his name to the pieces of paper, Green said sheepishly to no one in particular, ‘The things we do for the Orange Jesus.'” 1 “Trump is not only a danger to the United States and our democracy, but also a danger to the world. And because I was born in Romania and lived part of my life under a dictatorship, I think the best way to go about this subject is to tell some personal stories, things that happened to my family under Ceausescu's regime in Socialist/Communist Romania, make some analogies and point out some striking similarities between what Nicolae Ceausescu did in my native country, the aftermath of his policies, what some other dictators did too, and what Trump has done and plans to do here in the United States. The 2024 Presidential Elections have the potential, if Trump wins, to impact and reshape the geopolitical order.” – Sandra, Dubious Creator and Co-Host. Identified similarities: Refusal to relinquish power; Disdain for the free press; Censorship, propaganda and disinformation; Isolationism; Abortion bans; Criminalizing homosexuality and eroding LGBTQIA rights; Dehumanizing rhetoric like “vermin” (usually leads to genocide); Rampant corruption; Using religion to manipulate and radicalize people; Limited freedom of movement for certain demographics; The cult of personality; A love for grandiose military parades; Political repression; Turning truth on its head: Trump recently said that Joe Biden is a danger to democracy. Trump says he never swore an oath to support the constitution. His lawyers, in their appeal against the Colorado lawsuit, reiterated that the wording of Section Three of the 14th amendment does not apply to people running for president and that Trump technically did not swear an oath to "support" the Constitution. Trump: “I'll be a dictator, but only on day one.” 23 Donald Trump is the biggest danger to the world in 2024. A second Trump presidency would be more dangerous than the first to the United States and globally by orders of magnitude. 4 1. There's a number of documentaries that were instrumental to reporting this episode: Videograms from a Revolution; Chuck Norris vs Communism; The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceausescu, The Rise and Fall of Ceausescu: and Whatever Happened to Blood Sweat and Tears.  If you can't get enough Columbo, make sure to listen to our previous two-parter on McGruff the crime dog, who was directly inspired by Peter Falk's detective, and features a wild soundtrack.
