NC REALTORS® Political Operations Director Katharine Wendt discusses how to apply for an NAR Grant and more with Matt Allen, Director of Political Development and Government Affairs at Land of Sky REALTORS® and William Bradford, NCR Regional GAD for Central North Carolina.
Kirsten and I have a magical conversation about how to get in the flow of magic and joy.A pre-school teacher, Kirsten leads fairy walks to help adults and children reconnect with our senses so that we can perceive and receive life energy from the more-than-human world. We talk about Kirsten's first mystical experience which happened while working at a college prep farm school in the midwest. There she had a vision of herself living and being sustained by three regions, the Midwest -her roots; the Bay Area for wizarding; and North Carolina for jigging and living in her heart. It was fascinating to watch Kirsten stop in mid sentence and consult her inner wisdom, which she also calls her Inner Child. Kirsten says any part of us can lead but to choose consciously which part we want to lead. For example, the mind can lead the chi (your life force energy), but the body can lead the mind. Since both of us have a lot of virgo energy and naturally lean toward quick mind, Kirsten says she turns toward the body, outdoors, and trees to slow down and ground.Kirsten pointed out that many women emerge in mid-life with new interests and talents, and we drop the “should” and allow ourselves to listen to our “Highest guidance” and trust the instinct to play.If you would like to tap into your inner child magical joy, Kirsten recommends you start with the following:Play with childrenWatch loving mother child interactions (could be a youtube animal kingdom video)Focus on your feet, especially wiggling your toesGet outside! You can find out more about Kirsten's fairy walks and multidimensional healing services at https://innerchildoutside.com/TRANSCRIPTAmanda Aminata [00:00:02]:Hey, everybody. The Planner's Vault doors are open! Come join us!----Recently I was a guest on The Women's Social Club Podcast, a women supporting women community and membership with 15 locations including New York City, Chicago, and Washington DC. Some of you have heard my journey before, but one thing I noticed when listening to this episode is that I have the tendency to keep myself small, and I consider this one of my biggest challenges I'll continue to tackle day by day - but it's those voices of support in my life that push me to reach my potential. Now I have the opportunity and privilege to be the support system and cheerleader for so many in our community - and I don't take that for granted. I believe that there are far too many amazing entrepreneurs out there who show up, serve so many, make a difference, and yet they continue to play it small. I hope this interview inspires you to stop getting in your own way. Great success is waiting on the other side. ---"I used to call my business my baby - it was my first baby before my actual babies. You asked, Greg and Sheila answer! Many of our customers, followers, and Row By Row Group Members submitted their gardening questions and tonight, you will have them answered. Q & A - Part 1 "Have you ever had success growing asparagus?" - Yes, we've been growing asparagus for the last 7-8 years. We have several videos on our YouTube on how to be successful growing it. The key to it is after the 3rd year of growing it, you want to cut them back. You will develop weeds around the asparagus and that's normal. If you cut them back, you'll continue to get asparagus shoots. "What is the best way to get rid of grasshoppers? I'm surrounded by grassland and they're inundating my yard and garden." - There isn't much you can do for them organically. You need to hit them early on with a synthetic insecticide. You can rotate Bug Buster II and Neem Oil to treat them. "Concerning nitrogen fixers, do the nitrogen-fixing plants have to die or be pruned back to release the nitrogen for other plants to scavenge from the roots left behind?" - You can't intercrop a "live" legume with a crop and expect it to exchange the nitrogen. It needs to die back and break down into the soil before it is beneficial. "Will I get better germination on my edible hibiscus if I leave the pod on the plant longer? I don't want to leave it on too long since it could go bad but I need some tips on when is the right time to pull the seed pods." - Once it blooms and the bloom falls off, I normally wait about 5-7 days after the bloom falls off. "I've heard it said for a long time now, insects don't attack healthy plants. Can you demystify that? - There is some truth to that. Think about it like it was your body and your immune system is weak, you are more than likely to get sick. It is more likely for an insect to attack your plant if it does not have the proper fertilization, health, etc. Insects can also attack healthy plants but they tend to fight off insect infestation easier. Q & A - Part 2 "Can you tell me what fertilizer to use on onions and at what time?" - We recommend a well-balanced fertilizer, like 20-20-20, and alternate it with a nitrogen source like Ammonium Sulfate. Stop fertilizing 30 days before you harvest. "Does Mrs. Hoss succession plant or intercrop in her raised beds?" - I do succession planting a lot in the spring and summer. I don't do it in the fall because the broccoli, cauliflower, etc. take longer to grow. I will intercrop with flowers in the spring and summer, I do sometimes plant my garlic and onions in with my English peas. "What can I use next time to prevent my pumpkins from being destroyed by vine borers? I want to give it another try." - For vine borers, you want to make sure you plant earlier in the spring to get ahead of the outbreak of the vine borers. You want to spray them early on, have a good spray schedule. If they get into the vine, you're done. "I want to bring my peppers inside for the winter. What do they need to keep producing or at least not to die over the winter months." - If you bring them inside, you'll want to keep them wet (keep the moisture to them) but I wouldn't fertilize them. Once the springtime comes, you want to re-pot the plant and then start fertilizing. "Can you use your drip irrigation system in containers? If yes, can you show how?" - We actually have a container watering kit that is perfect for your needs. We will get a video done on it soon! Q & A - Part 3 "When you are starting a farm on raw land, what is the best cover crop to plan to help build better soil?" - Hairy Vetch and Winter Rye are great ones for the cool season. During the warm season, you would want to go with Sunn Hemp. "I have never been able to get bell peppers to grow to a respectable size. I am in Central North Carolina. Any ideas?" - Fertility, fertility, fertility. I struggled back in the day until I realized bell peppers LOVE fertilizer.
Slam the Gavel welcomes Investigative Journalist, Michael Volpe back for another great show. Great discussion on the corruption in the counties of North Carolina and Miami Dade Florida. In the pits of corruption, DSS/ CPS essentially snatches children from their protective parents with no warrant and no court order. Cherokee County is only one example of where a major investigation is taking place ensuing with indictments, lawsuits and takeover by the state. Michael Volpe explained that the police, DSS and the courts do an awful job of investigating allegations of child abuse. CPS purposely coerces the protective parent to be placed in a vice through no fault of their own while having them sign off their rights using confusing documents. Caseworkers stealing children and having the parents sign their rights away is the typical modus operandi of CPS and Guardian Ad Litems. It's sickening what they are doing to people. Counties in NC and Miami Dade Florida as well as many others are guilty of these wrongdoings to families. Michael Volpe's latest article, but at the bottom there is a link to the previous article as well: https://theeprovocateur.blogspot.com/2021/06/silver-bullet-technique-executed-in.html Also, Megan Fox and I recently interviewed Gabe Shapiro, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZsX2kIPwD4&t=1056s it's about 42 minutes in, that the interview starts. There is no ACCOUNTABILITY nor oversight in these cases and children and parents are paying dearly for it. In this episode of Beekeeping Today Podcast, we reconnect with our beekeeping friends from Season 2, Episode 29. They come from across the country including Central North Carolina, North East Ohio, the western slope of the Rocky Mountains and the West Coast of Washington. We talk with them about last season, this winter and what they expect for next season. We start out in North Carolina with Mark Smith, who has had bees since 2014 and is running 20 – 30 treatment free colonies. His season last year had some real surprises and he was playing catch up most of the summer. He has some good plans for this spring though that should help out this season. Next, on to North East Ohio, with Tracy Alarcon, an Inspector in Portage County. The weather played tricks with his honey flow last summer and he made a boatload of honey he wasn't quite prepared for. Surprise! So, he's going to be prepared this year. Next, on to the western slope of Colorado with Ed Cobey, the Bottom Board author in Bee Culture magazine every month. Ed runs about 70 colonies and keeps them at low, medium and high altitudes, so has a very mixed season. He had excellent overwintering last year, but some drought got in the way of the honey crop. Finally, meet Paul Longwell, a 12-year beekeeper in Olympia Washington. Paul uses topbar, Langstroth and AZ Slovenian beehouse hives, and volunteers to treat neighboring hives to reduce mite pressure. Lots of rain means lots of honey, some years, and you have to be ready for that, and do things at the right time, and he's getting good at that. Four different regions. Four different beekeepers. Four different approaches to managing their bees through the seasons. Listen today and see how you compare and perhaps what you might do differently this year! Vicki Johnson grew up in a small town in Central North Carolina, but realized, after listening to some valuable advice, that she needed to get out and see the world, and that's what she did. Vicki tells me about that advice, how it opened her eyes, broadened her horizons, and where it eventually took her.
For this episode I had the pleasure of interviewing one of my influences to get into broadcasting. Cy Young is a radio legend in Central North Carolina radio starting in 1988 at WQOK K 97.5 and then transitioned to WFXC/WFXK Foxy 107/104. We talk about his start in radio in Tennessee and the pit stops he made before hitting North Carolina. We also swap radio stories and peel back some layers of the business. Enjoy and listen!

For most of his life, Jeff Altman resided in Los Angeles where he was a sought after stand up comedian, as well as an accomplished actor, starring and guest starring in TV shows the likes of the Dukes of Hazzard, Nurses, Baywatch, Night Court and the Tonight Show plus many others. In his career, Jeff starred in over 30 national commercial campaigns where he represented such companies as Budweiser, Arby's, Panasonic and General Motors. His movie credits include American Hot Wax, Easy Money, Highlander 2, Soul man and Doin' Time. And, of course, over 40 appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman. Now, because of the strangest of love stories, Jeff has moved to Central North Carolina and is focusing on his life long love of sleight of hand card magic. Growing up in Syracuse, New York, Jeff's love of card magic was instilled in him at an early age, as his dad, Arthur Altman, was one of the finest card handlers in the country. It wasn't long before Jeff, as a young boy, began fiddling with a deck of cards. Somehow, despite some of his "strange behaviors" Jeff was accepted into Johns Hopkins University to study Social and Behavioral Sciences. During his time in Baltimore, Jeff became close friends with card man extraordinaire, Frank Thompson. After graduating from college, Jeff immediately set his sights on Hollywood and the world famous Magic Castle. It was during this time at the "Castle" that Jeff was able to meet and befriend such card greats as Steve Freeman, Ricky Jay and the greatest of them all the "Professor" Dai Vernon. As his close friend David Letterman says: "If the magic has gone out of your life, call my friend, Jeff Altman, close up card handling at its finest. If you are not amazed and delighted, you may need a full neurological work up, He can do that too!"Check out Jeff's magic page here:https://www.jeffaltmanmagic.com/If you'd like to support the show and get some cool perks, check out our Patreon page:https://www.patreon.com/btbpcLook for new stuff for Patrons soon!Head over to the Behind the Bits website for extra content:https://www.thebtbpc.com/Get on our mailing list for news about future guests and more great content:https://www.thebtbpc.com/p/mailing-list/Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
