The Dead Milkmen were odd ducks in Philadelphia's 1980s  hardcore scene. They played really fast, but with a clean guitar channel, and wrote satirical--often strange and very imaginative--lyrics. It felt like they were almost a ska band. And in fact, they did have a few ska songs in their set like "If You Love Somebody, Set Them On Fire," "Little Man In My Head," "Gorilla Girl," and a cover of The Specials' "A Message To You, Rudy." Today, we bring on Dead Milkmen guitarist Joe Genaro. We talk about the band's relationship to ska, Joe's love for The Specials, The English Beat, Philly locals The Hooters, Operation Ivy and what it was like to play a LIVE 105 radio event with Skankin' Pickle (Along with Duran Duran and Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine.) We discuss their recent cover of Heaven 17's "(We Don't Need No) Fascist Groove Thang," which they turned into a ska song, the influential role of Dead Kennedys' In God We Trust, Inc, Joe's love for Dr. Demento and Weird Al (And how excited he was when he heard himself played on the Dr. Demento show), Why they mentioned drummer Jon Wurster in the song "Stewart," and we breakdown the recording of Big Lizard In My Backyard, and discuss some of the weirder promotional events Dead Milkmen did when "Punk Rock Girl" broke, including a bonkers performance on Club MTV with Downtown Julie Brown. Plus we discuss the band's excellent new album, Quaker City Quiet Pills, which was released on June 9th. Support the show

In episode 21 of The Hottest Party On TV podcast, Jeromme is joined by Club MTV dancer Marisa DiStefano Slaiby! Whereas a lot of dancers saw Club MTV as a launching pad to branch out into their own careers in entertainment, that wasn't Marisa's story. Nursing was her end goal and that's what she stuck to, but she certainly had a blast getting down on the Palladium dancefloor with the rest of the Club MTV dancers. We get into how she got on Club MTV, the difficulty of making the trek to the tapings in Manhattan from Rhode Island, a fun celebrity spotting story while out clubbing at the China Club, and more. This is the true story of seven strangers picked to live in a house, work together, and have their lives taped. Find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real…. The Real World. We sat down with Eric Nies a few months prior to MTV’s decision to bring the entire cast of the original real world back together to live in the same loft almost thirty years later. Mr. Eric Nies was part of the granddaddy of all of reality TV, the original Real World, New York, Season One. THE show that changed, introduced, formed and revolutionized Reality TV. Welcome Eric. We start at the beginning by asking the question, just how did Eric get cast on the first ever Real World in NYC and what was casting like back when. With no prior reality show to look to, we discuss how he knew what to do when the cameras started rolling - he didn’t. With no predecessor to look to, we discuss how this makes the Real World, New York, Season One possibly the most authentic reality TV show ever. Eric discusses his hesitations to do certain things not knowing how the final product would turn out and the influence of producers and editing back then. He discusses how he was able to get used to cameras around 24/7 and what he thought of the finished product once aired. Eric discusses what MTV was like back in the day when it was the Chanel that played music all day and how he thought the Real World would maybe be a little show that a few people watched. On that note, we talk about how life suddenly changed once the show aired and became a multigernational blockbuster of supreme magnitude. We discuss his house mates Julie, Norman, Heather, Kevin, Becky and Andre and who he keeps in touch with today. He explains how once the Real World ended he was offered the gig as host of Club MTV, which led to MTV’s The Grind (also featuring a pre RHOBH Camille Grammer), which led to The Grind Workout Videos, which led to a long career as both a Competitor and Host of the classic MTV juggernaut The Challenge. He had movie offers, modeling offers and who could forget that Bruce Weber photoshoot book he was in with his brother (Google It). Being the hot commodity in town, no one said no. Money, fame, booze, drugs, women, anything at his fingertips that he wanted, Eric seemingly had it all. Until he didn't. With an addictive personality, Eric finally hit rock bottom and had his “aha" moment when he realized he needed to transform his life. He started working with Grandmasters and Shaman’s and currently runs a successful practice as a life, health, wellness, nutrition guide, spiritual guide and addiction rehabilitation facilitator for those in need. That is a long cry from the streets of New York and the height of fame. Eric and David discuss the aftermath of being in the spotlight, how fame is possibly the most addictive drug of all, the highs and lows of the entertainment business and how to navigate it successfully and come out the other side. A truly spectacular sit down you do not want to miss with The Real World New York’s Eric Nies. @nies.eric@behindvelvetrope@davidyontefBonus Episodes Available On Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetropeBrought to you by Better HELP https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope")Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

He was featured as the on-air Fashion Correspondent where he produced fashion-music routines for the show featuring then unknown designers like Dolce & Gabbana, Emporio Armani, Nicole Miller & Patricia Field. There, Montgomery introduced a generation of rock & rollers to the world of fashion and style….Today, Mr. Frazier's company, ‘The Guru Image Development’  is an image development "think tank" for creative direction, product launches, social media direction and outreach, celebrity branding and image development. Aaron’s career as a singer began at an early age when he was handpicked by Simon Cowell to be the lead singer of a boy band called Worlds Apart in his hometown of London. He came to New York to launch his solo career, and quickly made a name for himself, emerging as a critically acclaimed Singer, Host, and Author. With wide-acclaim as a performer and musician, his fashion sense earned him the title of “Fashion Cop” for US Weekly!!!This was a get together that would DEFINITELY have happened in-person if the circumstances in our 2020 world were different. But I have to remind myself daily how wonderful technology really can be. Here we are, we three, mending fences, and celebrating, gleefully….❤️

Dean Sabatino aka Dean Clean/May 19, 2014 Joseph A. Gervasi interviews Dean Sabatino, better known under his nom-de-Milkmen Dean Clean. Dean was born in Camden, NJ, but grew up in a rural area outside Philadelphia. By the early 1980s, he was in the two-person band Narthex and playing shows in Philadelphia, including at the (in)famous Hot Club. Upon the demise of Narthex, Sabatino joined The Dead Milkmen as their first and only drummer. We talk about Dean’s young life (where he was a fun of progressive rock!) and his incremental move to Philadelphia, where he ultimately lived with the three other members of the band for some years. The Dead Milkmen’s surprise hit song “Punk Rock Girl” earned them play on MTV and got the band a Club MTV in a performance (with a bemused and abused Downtown Julie Brown) that must be seen to be believed (but for the benefit of those who haven’t seen it, Dean discusses the performance in detail). Since Dean was the last remaining living original member of the band I needed to interview, we also talk a bit about the sad demise of Dave Schulthise (aka Dave Blood), the bass player in The Dead Milkmen who took his own life in 2004 at the age of 47. Despite breaking up for several years, The Dead Milkmen are back and continue to record and perform. Dean Sabatino is genial and thoughtful throughout the interview and I know any fan of the band or individuals curious about Philadelphia’s underground music scene of the 1980s will enjoy my talk with him. Rodney Linderman aka Rodney Anonymous /September 28, 2013 Joseph A. Gervasi interviews Rodney Linderman aka Rodney Anonymous of The Dead Milkmen (and many other bands and musical projects). At nearly 89-minutes, this is not the longest interview in the series. I can assure you, however, that there are more words said in this interview than in any other, and perhaps in all of them combined. Rodney loves to talk-talk-talkand he has many strong opinions-opinions-opinions — and that’s why Philadelphia loves him! A complete catalogue of what Rodney discusses in this interview would be impossible for me to detail without my fingers falling off, but here’s a bit of what you’ll hear: Rodney’s young life in a working class steel town, the early days (aka “The Fictitious Years”) of The Dead Milkmen, how the Dead Milkmen became a real band, the unlikely hit that was the song “Punk Rock Girl” and how the band sabotaged their appearance on Club MTV, the state of music criticism and the music scene in general, twee beardy bands and the undue attention paid to them, why drugs are bad, some well-known folks Rodney hates, etc. Get ready for an aural speedball! P.S. For the record, I love the breezy ’60s harmony pop band The Association. The Dead Milkmen website     The post LOUD! FAST! PHILLY! This week we talk about Father's Day and so much more. We all agree that the guitar solo is a lost art. For Father's Day, Moltz did get chain saw but it didn't work out and is going back. WTF had Barack Obama on but we've only ever had John Gruber.
