Kirk Parsley completed SEAL training at the age of 19 and served as a 60-gunner on SEAL Team Five in Coronado, California. He left the SEAL community in 1994 to pursue a college education. Later, he re-entered the US Navy to attend the military's medical school in Bethesda, Maryland, where he was commissioned as a Navy Officer in 2000.After completing medical school, internship, and residency, Kirk returned to the SEAL teams as the physician for the West Coast SEAL teams. Kirk was tasked with helping the world's most elite warriors optimize and maintain their performance after eight years of sustained combat. It was during this period that he noticed a significant gap between "healthcare" and true "health."Kirk was compelled to delve into extensive alternative medical literature, synthesizing and applying it effectively and practically to ensure the SEALs could perform at their peak 365 days a year. Performance and fitness are related components of a SEAL's ability, but they are not synonymous.Due to the limitations and restrictions of medical interventions available in austere environments with limited medical support, Kirk had to develop plans that relied minimally on pharmaceuticals, supplements, or gadgets. His unparalleled success led him to become a sought-after medical human performance expert, not only for Navy SEALs but also for various military special forces commands. He parlayed this experience into private consulting for professional sports teams, international corporations, law enforcement, first responders, the Department of Justice, entrepreneurs, and executives.Dr. Parsley has collaborated with numerous elite performers, achieving remarkable results in optimizing their physical, cognitive, and emotional performance. His philosophy is straightforward: our bodies are built on a 100,000+ year-old model, and we perform best by emulating the lifestyle we evolved to live as closely as possible, striving to attain the health metrics of our 25-year-old selves. Kirk firmly believes that 80% of health is derived from focusing on Sleep, Nutrition, Exercise, and Stress mitigation, with a strong emphasis on Sleep. Kirk is certified in Hyperbaric Medicine, Anti-Aging Medicine, Hormone Replacement Therapy, and is currently pursuing national certification in Psychedelic Medicine Therapies. He dedicates a significant portion of his time to advising non-profit organizations that support the SEAL community and providing healthcare guidance and treatment to veterans. Operating his practice and supplement business from Austin, Texas, Kirk is an avid outdoorsman and fitness enthusiast. When he's not working or working out, you can usually find him in nature, continuously enhancing his medical skills. SHOWNOTES:

fWotD Episode 2501: Charles Richardson (Royal Navy officer) Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of the featured Wikipedia article every day.The featured article for Sunday, 10 March 2024 is Charles Richardson (Royal Navy officer).Vice-Admiral Sir Charles Richardson (c. 10 March 1769 – 10 November 1850) was a Royal Navy officer of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.Richardson's naval career began when he joined HMS Vestal as a captain's servant in 1787. In Vestal he made an aborted journey to China before serving on the East Indies Station where he transferred to HMS Phoenix and fought in the Battle of Tellicherry and the Third Anglo-Mysore War in 1791 and 1792. Having returned to England as a master's mate, Richardson fought at the Glorious First of June on HMS Royal George in 1794 before being promoted to lieutenant in HMS Circe. In 1797 he successfully combated the Nore mutiny in Circe before fighting in the Battle of Camperdown where he personally captured the Dutch admiral Jan Willem de Winter. Afterwards he became flag lieutenant to Admiral Adam Duncan and fought at the Battle of Callantsoog and the Vlieter Incident in the Anglo-Russian invasion of Holland of 1799. He then sailed to Egypt in HMS Kent where he again went onshore, fighting in the battles of Abukir, Mandora, and Alexandria in 1801. Promoted to commander in July 1801, Richardson was given command of the en flute HMS Alligator. After the Napoleonic Wars began in 1803 he was sent to the Leeward Islands Station, where he captured three Dutch settlements in September. Richardson made a valuable contribution in the Battle of Suriname in the following year for which he was given command of HMS Centaur and promoted to post-captain. Leaving Centaur in 1805, at the start of the next year he received command of HMS Caesar. In Caesar Richardson fought at the battles of Les Sables-d'Olonne and the Basque Roads in 1809. He joined the Walcheren Campaign later in the year, where he took command of a naval brigade operating ashore. In 1810 he was given command of HMS Semiramis in the English Channel; cooperating with HMS Diana he fought an action against two French warships and a small convoy off the Gironde that was complimented by Spencer Perceval, the prime minister.Leaving Semiramis in 1815, Richardson's next command came in 1819 as captain of HMS Leander on the East Indies Station. He transferred to HMS Topaze in 1821 and sailed to China, where his crew killed two Chinese locals in self-defence. The resulting diplomatic incident was settled at the start of the following year but caused such a strain on Richardson's health that he was invalided home in October 1822. This was his last service in the Royal Navy, but he continued to be rewarded, being nominated a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath in 1841 and promoted to vice-admiral in 1847. He died of influenza at his home at Painsthorpe in 1850.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:35 UTC on Sunday, 10 March 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Charles Richardson (Royal Navy officer) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Emma Standard.

He's no longer in prison in Japan, but Navy Lieutenant Ridge Alkonis is still not free. Now Ridge Alkonis is behind bars in Los Angeles, serving time for a 2021 crash that left two Japanese citizens dead. Alkonis, who was stationed in Japan, says he suffered from acute altitude sickness causing him to lose control of his car before the deadly crash. Now transferred back to America, his frustrated family is asking the Biden administration to commute his sentence and let him return home. Brittany Alkonis, Ridge's wife, joins The Rundown to share their family's story and why she believes her husband should never have been convicted of a crime. She also discusses her efforts to free Ridge and let their children live with their father once again. Colorado's Supreme Court has ruled that former President Donald Trump will not be featured on their state's primary ballot, citing section three of the constitution's fourteenth amendment and the district court's ruling that the former president had engaged in insurrection on January 6th. Trump's team has said they "imminently" plan to challenge this decision by taking it to the Supreme Court, where they must decide if Colorado's ruling is just. On the Rundown, FOX News Sunday Host Shannon Bream explains why she believes the Supreme Court will likely refuse to pass Colorado's ruling and shares her thoughts on other states planning to do the same thing. She also discusses over 12,000 migrants crossing the southern border in a single day last week and whether she believes President Biden will take serious action to address the Border crisis. 164: Today, I'm talking with one of the most enthusiastic and inspiring land investors I know in the REtipster community, Arturo Paturzo.(Show Notes: REtipster.com/164)Arturo is an Italian Navy Officer living in Rome and running his land investing business in the US. He started this business because he was looking for real estate investment opportunities; luckily, the YouTube algorithm showed him the "land flipping life cycle" video from REtipster, and the rest is history.Ever since Arturo joined the REtipster Community and enrolled in the Land Investing Masterclass, it has been fascinating and inspiring to watch him post in our forum and Facebook group as he tries to figure out the best ways to handle various situations and because of his inquisitive nature, he helps a lot of people figure stuff out, just by asking the questions that other people either don't think to ask or are too scared to ask.I'm also fascinated by how Art has been doing this from a long distance, in a very different time zone, speaking a very different language, while working a very full-time job in the Navy. This guy has a lot of natural challenges to work around… as many of us do, but they're even more intense because of where he's coming from.

PODCAST - LISTEN, WATCH, AND SUBSCRIBE https://linktr.ee/TransitionDrillPodcast In this episode I had a candid conversation with Shanon Morris. Shanon shares her unexpected journey to the Naval Academy. Growing up in the suburbs of Illinois, she had never heard of the Naval Academy until a flyer arrived in her mail during her high school years. A subsequent trip to Washington, D.C., and a tour of the academy changed the trajectory of her life. Despite initial challenges and thoughts of quitting during her early days at the academy, she found her footing and even founded the dance team, showcasing her leadership skills. Her upbringing, marked by a blend of Taiwanese and American cultures, instilled in her the values of discipline, education, and hard work. As a competitive figure skater and dancer, she learned the importance of teamwork and coordination, skills that would later serve her well in the military. However, her aspirations weren't initially aligned with the military; she had dreams of joining the intelligence community, inspired by her love for books about the CIA. Upon graduation from the Naval Academy in 2014, she found herself on a ship, deployed to the Middle East. While the experience wasn't what she had envisioned, it taught her resilience and adaptability. Her goal remained to transition to the intelligence community. However, a severe car accident and subsequent medical challenges cut her military journey short, leading to her exit after four years. The decision to leave the military was not easy. Having attained her master's degree in Homeland Security, she has since worked as an Intel Analyst with the FBI and she has worked for Google. Today Shanon and her husband, Matt, set out on a new venture: starting their business, Hop On Hold On where they consult veterans on transition from the military and help them build a life they've always dreamed of. This podcast is a testament to Shanon's resilience and adaptability, making it a must-listen for first responders, law enforcement, military veterans, and anyone facing life's unexpected challenges. Her story underscores the importance of perseverance, adaptability, and the courage to chart one's own path, even when faced with adversity. What are "knee-jerk processes?" When do you step over the line from good policies into being over-processed and damaging your culture and business? Our guest in this episode answers these questions. Matt Hahne, a Certified EOS Implementer (www.EOSWorldwide.com/Matt-Hahne), is a former U.S. Navy Officer and a Merchant Mariner who created and owned three successful businesses. Matt teaches using numerous examples from businesses he's worked with who hid behind processes and clung to calcified ways of doing things that hurt their culture, violated their own closely-held values, and damaged their business. Here are three great resources we talked about in the interview: -Matt's newly released Launching Leaders workshop for supervisors (www.LaunchingLeaders.com) -Patrick Lencioni's The Table Group podcast episdoe called "Principle over Policy:" https://www.tablegroup.com/161-principle-over-policy/ -The famous Netflix culture deck: https://www.peterfisk.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/netflix-culture-deck.pdf Matt also shares how to turn things around if you've focused more on rules and processes and not enough on hiring and inspiring the right people in your organization by leading with "context and not control." Damo opens this episode addressing his recent issues with trying to get his Periodic Health Assessment (PHA) completed. Damon's #DoBetter shines a light on the lack of the “teamwork” aspect that he's witnessed during his recent ship visits. The guys discuss the importance of choosing the right mentor as opposed to finding someone that agrees with everything that you say. What are the pros and cons to choosing a mentor that's in the same division as you? The guys play catch up, discussing Damon's schedule as an assessor and Damo's “Retirement Ceremony Uniform Mix Up.” Do you know how many ribbons you should have on your ribbon rack? If so, how do you know? Damo asks Damon a few “Integrity Questions.” Question No. 1: Have you ever ducked out of colors? Question No.2: Do you have any qualifications that you know you didn't earn? The conversation leads Damo to reflect on the time he earned his Letter of Instruction (LOI). Congratulations to all our Reservist that made Senior Chief and Master Chief! Have you ever heard of a Spiritual/Non-Religious Chaplin? The guys haven't either; they discuss. A former Navy Officer who was executed for the murder a junior Sailor will have his remains removed from Arlington National Cemetery. Host Michelle Dempsey-Multack asked AJ Grossman to return to Moms Moving On to discuss his experience with alimony and how it works. AJ explains how big of a source of fear money is during the divorce process and what you can do about it. In this episode AJ covers: Having realistic expectations If extra marital affairs can affect alimony Having a demonstrated need for alimony How the alimony formula can vary state by state AND MUCH MORE A.J. Grossman graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in business administration and at the top of his Florida law school class. He immediately went on to achieve his Master of Laws degree in Dispute Resolution from The Straus Institute at Pepperdine University Law School in California, which is the #1 ranked Dispute Resolution program in the country. As the son of a Navy Officer and the founder of several businesses, he learned quickly about service to others. A.J.'s goal is to help people solve problems, plain and simple.
