Today's episode of The Lead With Trust Show is another installment in the Bring Women into Construction series. This time out, Sue chats with Coralee Beatty, Business Strategist and Fractional COO of ThriveHQ, speaker, trainer and serial entrepreneur. Coralee's experience in the construction industry started with a 10 year career as a building envelope consultant with a multinational engineering firm. She left to work full time with her husband in their mechanical contracting business and remained there for the following 15 years. When the business quickly grew to seven figures, Coralee realized that the business was running her life. The freedom that business ownership was supposed to offer was lost in the running of the business - putting out one fire, and then the next. She hired a business coach to help keep her accountable and to help her learn how to structure her business, increase profitability and scale it to multi-seven figures, putting herself in a position to finally sell it and strike out on her own. Coralee has since set out on her path of coaching other women business owners in construction and trades, sharing the lessons she's learned, to lighten their burden and help them reach the life they want.During the episode, Sue and Coralee discuss her journey in the construction industry, to a building and selling a seven-figure business and eventually charting her own path as an entrepreneur and coach.Coralee offers insights on her experiences as a woman working as a consultant in the construction industry. They also explore the four primary reasons why women leave the construction industry, including a lack of flexibility and family obligations.Join Sue and Coralee for this fascinating discussion about the entrepreneurial path and the rewards and challenges it offers to women in construction. If you have any questions or suggestions for Sue, feel free to reach out via email.Enjoy! What You'll Learn in this Show:The importance of having an end goal in mind when starting a business. Why many women are leaving the construction industry. How Coralee grew and eventually sold a seven-figure business. And so much more...Resources:Thrive HQ websiteHiring Secrets bookCoralee's email: success@thrivehq.caSudyco websiteLead with Trust NewsletterSue's Email: suedyer@sudyco.comSudyco YouTube channel

I have been in the automotive industry for 20 years. Began my career pumping gas and going to college for automotive service technician. I challenged the parts person exam and have years of education and experience selling cars. The last 10 years have been spent as an automotive service writer than automotive service manager. I wrote a book that quickly became a best seller on Amazon. I now train other service advisors. In a typical work day, everything can be going smoothly until a customer is furious at the cost of their bill and thinks they know more than you and the technician because they watch videos on YouTube. It's now 4:45 and you haven't even had time for a lunch break. How do you handle everything, keep a smile on your face and feel like the life has not been sucked out of you? Twenty-year automotive veteran Coralee Zueff explains how to: Sell more work by educating the customer, not high pressure sales tactics. Ask customers better questions to get the correct description of the complaint for the Technician. Understand a Technician's diagnosis and communicate it to the customer. Handle customer objections. Deal with shop conflict. Properly create an estimate so that the customer feels supported. Manage the technicians' time more effectively. Included in this book are worksheets, templates and training to help Service Advisors communicate better, manage conflict and increase revenues without feeling sales-y. Today, we talk with a huge advocate of women in construction. She herself has lived in a world of construction & skilled trades. Coralee Beatty joins us on the show today to share with us her journey through the trades. Coralee loved construction from a young age. Something about the smell of the wood, how the sound echoes through empty walls, and premonitions of who might occupy the future house. She just loved it. However, her journey took her to university instead where she studied psychology. She pivoted to trade school just ½ year shy of completing. After trades school she spent 10 years at a business envelope consulting firm. And then the next 15 years growing a mechanical business with her husband. She sold the business, but not her passion for helping people. So her next step was to start a coaching business in Thrive HQ focusing specifically on women in construction. Tune in to hear how Coralee pursued her passions to live a life of success by her definition and what she's doing to change the industry forever. Don't forget to subscribe to this channel, and on our website blueisthenewwhite.com to receive all the latest updates. As always, this show is not monetized & we don't run ads. • I started in the mid-90s doing building on lot consulting with an engineering firm and did that for 10 years, and then I retired from that and I acted as a general contractor for building our family home for the following year, and then I was working full-time with my husband in our trades business, so I was kinda doing part-time kind of doing the engineering thing, and then I shifted full-time into our business, and after 15 years, we sold that business and now what I do is I work with other women in construction businesses to help them organize and structure their business for profitability, flexibility and freedom. (0:47)• So it was just having that support, somebody to help me stay focused, because when you can get carried away with everything that's going on in your day, that last priority is on your business. So that's thing that gets... When you're tired at the end of the day, that's the things, well, maybe I can do that tomorrow instead, but when I had that accountability, when I had that person to say, Okay, these are the points that we need to work on, and let's focus on this one piece then I could do that. And so that's kind of how it helped me, just make sure that I put my processes in place and make sure that, basically what ended up happening is we were able to build our business so basically we could actually sell it when we were at really to exit it. (6:52)• Yeah, I'm certainly the only one that caters just to women, there are other women who do construction coaching, but I think I'm the only one that does women specifically. And like I said, I do that very purposely, it doesn't make my life easy... It would be easy for me to go find all these men and bring them in... That would be fine. The challenge is getting women to recognize they need the help, recognize they're allowed to ask for help. I think that so many women are used to doing everything and... I got it, I can do it. It's just easier for me to do it. I was there too, before I hired my first admin person, it's just like, I can do it, it's just easier for me to do... I don't have time to train somebody. It's just like all these emergencies, I just need to do, I need to do and I need to do, and to just stop and let yourself ask for help and to accept it, that is I think the biggest challenge. Because one, women feel like a failure when they have to ask for help. It's just like, I can do it all, well you shouldn't do it all. There's no reason for you to do it all, and nobody can be successful on their own. (14:31)• You gotta be ready for it. There is a lot to be ready for, I mean, even on the good days, there's a lot of struggles, but if somebody's interested in that, I really want to help them be able to make that shift because challenges are confidence and fear. Women who are making that shift from being a trades woman to becoming a business owner in the trades, those are the two biggest issues that I see. And I really want to help them, empower them and give them the tools that they need to do it with confidence, because it is so... It's so possible. It's so possible to have the right support system when you accept it, when you give yourself the opportunity to take the help, have the guidance, there's so much potential. "If I allow praise to be why I do this job or get wrapped up in that life-saving mentality, I would worry about the job I'm doing. You have to keep some humility."Jen Rondeau is a very humble and wise woman. As a Critical Care Paramedic, her job is to help those who need immediate medical help. She works with Air Ambulance and Road Ambulance based at Medavie Health Services West in Saskatoon's Stonebridge area. She works with others to save lives. What I quickly learned, however, is that accepting praise and then letting it go is really important for Jen and she explains why in this episode.I met Jen last summer when I walked into her yoga studio, Ivy Yoga House. Two things quickly stood out to me. The first was how welcoming the space was. Sometimes I feel intimidated in a yoga studio because I'm just not that good, but there is a great feeling when you enter the studio that instantly puts you at ease. The second was that Jen was there to greet and say hello to everyone. It's a small but I think important example of Jen's kindness and she explains why this is important in the episode.I've got to know Jen since that first class and after hearing some pretty incredible stories of being on the frontlines of the pandemic, I just had to have her on the podcast. I am grateful she said yes and was game for doing the interview in the back of one of the ambulances at Medavie headquarters.Jen is a wonderful storyteller and opens up about the highs (the love she and her colleagues received from the public when the pandemic first started) and the lows (watching conspiracy and anti-mask protests take root in Saskatchewan) of being a paramedic during Covid times. She also discusses the challenges that come with having her own family question the science behind vaccines. It's not easy to talk about these things so I really appreciate her sharing so much with listeners.Thank you to Saskatoon physiotherapist and yoga instructor Adrienne Vangool for her help with this episode! A big thank you to City Perks Coffeeshop and Sparrow Coffee for supporting this episode. Both of these locations serve great coffee, great food and are wonderful spots for conversations with friends. Thank you to Coralee and her team for their belief in the podcast!Follow YXE Underground on Apple Podcasts or wherever you find your podcasts. Stream episodes on Spotify or the website. Please give a 5-star review if you like what you hear! Thank you so much for supporting this local, independent podcast! I sure do appreciate it and I know you're going to love getting to know Jen Rondeau. Cheers...Eric

Concussion is a confusing, somewhat misunderstood diagnosis that impacts many individuals every day. We have an in-depth conversation about Concussion, to discuss what it is, what happens to individuals who have one and what kinds of things help to cure concussion. One intervention that can really make a difference for those who suffer concussion is Vision Therapy, and the growing field of Behavioural Optometry. We discuss how athletes who play sports with high risk of concussion can be assessed by a Behavioural Optometrist to see how well their visual systems and movement systems are coordinated, before an injury happens. This may indicate concussion suseptibility and may help to decrease the impact of a concussion on this individual. BIO: Dr. Meuller is an Optometrist in Vision Development and Rehabilitation. ABOUT THE SHOW WATCHING GLORY DIE Judith Thompson’s riveting and exquisite portrayal of three women trapped in a broken prison system will leave you dumbfounded. The play is inspired by the shocking and true story of teenager, Ashley Smith, who – after five years of being misdiagnosed, and mistreated, hallucinating away in ‘therapeutic quiet’ – died by suicide in her prison cell because the guards were ordered not to interfere. When asked why she wrote the play, Ms. Thompson stated: “because Ashley is an outlier, like every artist. Ashley simply could not be a “good girl.” She could not shut up and do what she was told. She was wild, and reckless, and if she had been a boy, she would have been admired. The artist’s job is to throw those crab apples, to unsettle and startle conforming folks, to question everything. That is what Ashley was doing, in her way, and she paid with her life. Hers was not a suicide. It was a homicide. It was, in fact, ruled a homicide in civil court. Who was punished for her death? Only the guards, who were doing their jobs, afraid to jeopardize their pensions. Those who gave the orders were promoted. I am as interested in the guard, who I call Gail, and Ashley’s mother Coralee, who I call Rosellen, as I am in Ashley. Three women, all ensnared in patriarchal fascism.” WINDSOR FEMINIST THEATRE Windsor Feminist Theatre, a non-profit theatre company founded in 1980, is recognised as one of the nation’s first feminist theatre organisations and is among the oldest organisations of its kind in Canada.
