A friendship that was forged at Podfest has led to a one-of-a-kind episode here on That Entrepreneur Show. Buckle up for the Tao of Podcasting with Charlie Birney. Some areas of discussion include:Sense of arrivalPerception your name bringsBalancing both sides Valuing the silence before the sound“The Tao of Podcasting”Meet Charlie: I am Co-founder of Podville Media, an HD video and audio media production studio located in Washington, DC. Podville Media began as Podcast Village, in a co-working office in Gaithersburg, Maryland. I had loved public speaking and acting in school and was tremendously excited about podcasting and what it could mean for communications and storytelling. As a result of my early experience, I am co-author of “Podcasting Made Simple” (on Amazon, but largely outdated due to software and hardware developments. However you can see my early podcast sketches in the book!).Prior to Podville Media, I spent over 25 years in the DC/MD/VA commercial real estate market, most notably as a team member for planning, permitting, building and managing the two courses at Queenstown Harbor Golf, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Additionally, I served as president of both the Maryland Tourism Council and the National Golf Course Owner's Association. Podville has been up and sprinting now for over five years, and in 2023 we won three Tellys (the Tellys are in their 44th year) and have a show, Rap Stories, in the number one spot on Apple for podcasts in the music category. Jenna Wortham is a writer at New York Time Magazine, co-author alongside Kimberly Drew of the anthology Black Futures, co-host of the NYT award-winning podcast Still Processing, where her and her best friend and the Times’ critic at large Wesley Morris make listeners feel like they are eavesdropping on two best friends talking about exactly what we need to be discussing in culture. One of my favorite things about Jenna is their healing spirit. They are a sound healer, reiki practitioner, herbalist and community care worker oriented toward healing justice and liberation. Jenna is from the DMV, for those of you who don’t know, the DC/MD/VA area so that might be why I have even more love for them. In this episode, Embracing Enough links up with two local educators - Sherilyn and Trauvello - from the DC/MD/VA area to get their take on resiliency amongst girls. We talk current day risks and stresses that need to be understood as defining factors in adolescence. Sherilyn and Trauvello not only talk about their perspectives as educators, but we also muse about their own story, how they grew up naturally smart and explore how that influenced their respective journeys of being enough.
