Discipline wasn't saving me. It was silently destroying me. Have you ever been praised for how hard you push—while breaking inside? I used to be the woman who “had it all together.” Disciplined. Reliable. High-performing. But under the surface? I was a storm in a perfectly tailored outfit. I never missed a workout—even when I was sick. I tracked every calorie like my life depended on it. I said yes when I meant no. I showed up for others when I was falling apart. I confused exhaustion with impact. I called obsession “excellence.” But what I didn't know was this: My “discipline” was a trauma response. My “drive” was dysregulation. My “success” was self-abandonment in disguise. I didn't believe I was allowed to rest. Because deep down, I didn't believe I was worthy unless I earned it. Society clapped for my grind. But I was building a life on the edge of a breakdown. Let's stop glorifying the grind that's killing us. Redefine discipline. Not as destruction—but as devotion. Phenyx Fit Kate Hastings Podcast @coachkate1 Mental Health Coach

rue discipline is rooted in consistency and flexibility. Life is unpredictable, and when I am rigid in my thinking, behavior, and emotions, I stifle my growth. Adapting to new circumstances, scaling down when needed, and changing my approach are crucial for maintaining discipline. I focus on setting realistic, manageable goals that allow for consistent progress. I aim low, hit it, and keep building. This approach has taught me to view setbacks as feedback rather than failures. Great things aren't built overnight; they take time and adaptability. High expectations on an inflexible foundation will always crumble. My journey has been about learning to adapt to cope and ultimately thrive. I used to adapt to abuse, high stress, and what others expected of me, leading to burnout and self-sabotage. Now, I teach the importance of adaptability for mental health and sustainable success. It's about adjusting to the right things and avoiding black-and-white thinking. As Max McKeown said, "Adaptability is about the powerful difference between adapting to cope and adapting to win. This is a day to remember what our responsibility is to live in this great country and to to live every day with a sense of meaning and personal excellence so that we can hand this country down to future generations in a manner that they can be proud of. Independence Day is not just another date on a calendar...treat it as such!

Church elders are shepherds who need to follow the perfect model – Jesus. One of the heavy parts that goes with this is church discipline, which is more than just excommunication. It includes all the steps taken to get someone to repent and be reconciled to the Lord and to their brothers and sisters. It’s important that those disciplined not only say “sorry” but that they turn and go the other direction. It’s the difference of just having Jesus as Savior vs. having Him as both Savior and Lord. It’s a “cheap” gospel vs. a gospel with both belief and action. None of us are above discipline and we are chastened because we are loved. Left to our own devices we will do what we want, and we need to be protected from this. Discipline is unpleasant but, in the end, produces a holy people different from the world.
00:07 Mindfulness – A Boon for Willpower 07:20 Quality Sleep Boosts Willpower 12:08 How to Get Quality Sleep 13:30 Move Your Body & Generate Willpower at Will 17:00 Use Cold Shower 18:40 Don't Break the Chain 21:30 Eat a Frog Hear it Here - https://bit.ly/PowerBathla Mindfulness – A Boon for Willpower The role of meditation in our lives is proven to have expanded way beyond and is now encompassing the general well-being of human beings across the world. Mindfulness, in simple terms, is a process of travelling inside your body and mind and enhancing your awareness about the ongoing thoughts and emotions within yourself. Science tells that people who meditate regularly for longer periods have more gray matter in the prefrontal cortex, as well as other regions of the brain that support self-awareness. The brain appears to adapt to exercise in the same way that muscles do, getting both bigger and faster in order to get better at what you ask of it. It only makes sense to develop a habit of mindfulness in our daily lives to reap the benefits of mindfulness for developing stronger willpower and improve the quality of our lives. Quality Sleep Boosts Willpower There is enough research now to establish that if you consistently compromise and deprive yourself from the required number of sleep hours every night, you are already in the grip of stress and anxiety. Sleep deprivation studies repeatedly show a variable (negative) impact on mood, cognitive performance, and motor function due to an increasing sleep propensity and destabilization of the wake state. If you are truly sincere about boosting your willpower, focus on ensuring that you get the right quantity and quality of sleep every night. You have to create a right atmosphere to get quality sleep. Move Your Body & Generate Willpower at Will One simple habit of infusing physical exercise in your day to day life has the potential to improve your self-control to a large extent. Exercise's effects are not merely restricted to keeping your body fit, they have overarching advantages for mental strength as well. Exercising outside in short spurts have a more powerful impact than longer workouts in indoor gyms or healthclubs. Use Cold Shower – To Strengthen Your Willpower Muscle Taking cold showers is in itself an exercise of the willpower muscle. There are scientifically backed up various benefits as well to this exercise. Start Your Day by Eating the Frog Brian Tracy, in his best-selling book, Eat that Frog advised that the very first thing in the morning that you should do is eat the ugliest frog. By ugliest frog, he intends to means your difficult but high-value activity, which, if done, will be a significant achievement for the day and other activities will seem comparatively of lesser importance. My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights. Do we control our own happiness? Teachers and parents alike espouse the value of focus. With focus, children appreciate the value of the moment and can learn to control their mind. Yet, phones and social media conspire to make focus very difficult. The undisciplined mind, split from its foundation, shifts and drifts in different directions and tasks are left undone, leaving students left feeling inadequate and powerless. Steve and Dan Fouts are joined by Evan Harrel and Laura Berland from the Center for Compassionate Leadership to explore the power of a disciplined mind and how it can not only foster compassionate leaders, but can also lead us to a peace and contentment we never knew was possible. Welcome back to the Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning podcast, episode #95 with Learning, Mood, Behavior, Author, Educator and Speaker Dr. Sandy Gluckman. You can watch the interview on YouTube here. Dr. Sandy Gluckman describes her quest as saving the next generation from a growing explosion of learning, behavior and mood problems. Her work is rooted in the science that shows that children will thrive when parents thrive. Dr. Sandy empowers parents to raise healthy, resilient, confident children primed for success, by showing them how to first heal themselves. Dr Gluckman is sought after for her expertise on a range of children’s challenges such as Anxiety, Defiance, Emotional Resilience, Self-Worth, Screen Addiction, Stress as a Survival Mechanism and the Sensitive Child. Rather than offering quick-fix, superficial solutions to these complex issues, Dr Sandy uses science to teach parents how to create the kind of parent-child neurochemistry that prevents and heals these problems.Welcome Dr. Gluckman! Thank you so much for being available to speak with me today.I have to say, that when I was reading your book, Parents Take Charge[i], and saw the acknowledgements, I can see how you fit in perfectly with the content we have been focused here on this podcast, especially with our most recent jump that focuses on health and mental wellbeing. If we are not healthy physically and emotionally, how on the earth can we expect ourselves to perform at high levels, and we definitely can’t expect it of our children, right?I can see that many who have inspired your work, we have been focused on for the past year and a half on this podcast, with Dr. Dan Siegel a year ago this week, Dr. Amen with his daughter Chloe Amen’s interview[ii] on Change Your Brain, Change Your Grades, and then inspiring the brain scan content,[iii] Stephen Porges with his Polyvagal Theory[iv], and most recently with our focus on health and the brain with Dr. Mark Hymen, and his recent program, Alzheimer’s The Science of Prevention that really did inspire our health and wellness episodes.[v] Your life’s work is a perfect match for us, and I am so grateful to have this chance to speak with you.Today, our topic with you is Reversing Children’s Behavior and Mood Problems by Treating the Root Causes and before I even get to your questions, I have to put my background in context for you, since your work, and this podcast will probably make some things come full circle for me, as well for those listening who might work with or know children with behavior or mood problems.Back in the late 1990s, I was a teacher in Toronto, and I worked with behavioral students. It was my first teaching assignment right out of teacher’s college, and I had no training at all on how to deal with difficult students, and also had hardly any strategies for managing my own stress. I have had author and educational neuroscience leader, Dr. Lori Desaultels[vi] on twice to this podcast, and her work, along with Michael McKnight, focuses on how the students’ behavior usually is a reaction to the teacher or parent’s state of mind. I now know stress reducing strategies that help me on a daily basis, but I wish I knew them when I first started my career.Q1: Can you take me back to the beginning of your professional career, with students in their last year of high school in South Africa, and what made you begin to wonder “why did some students have a robust, healthy and feisty spirit, while others did not?” How did this question inspire you to further your studies and obtain a PhD in clinical psychology, and dive deep into how different people respond to stress?Q2: In your book, Parents Take Charge, you introduce a new way of healing children’s learning, behavior and mood problems, with the story of an 11-year old named David, who was having some challenges with learning at school, was diagnosed with a bunch of different disorders like ADHD, OCD, and depression, and was given a ton of medicine to go with each diagnosis. Can you share how this Mom got the root of David’s problem, finding some challenges with his digestive system, and how he was put on a treatment program that included supplements his body was missing and some changes to his diet, and 9 months later his symptoms were almost gone? This is such a powerful story! For this example, David became a new child, with improved grades, and a natural leadership that emerged with his new levels of confidence. As a parent, this is all we want for our children. To be able to go through life with ease, and be successful.Q3: Where do we begin when looking at mood problems with children, whether we are talking about the eye-rolling that I’m just starting to get with my young girls when I ask them to do something, or the flat out difficult behavior that I saw as a new teacher in the classroom? Q4: What did your experience as a teacher, psychologist and leadership coach teach you about the mental, emotional and social well-being of a student, as well as those working in the corporate world about the importance of managing our emotional states?Q5: What inspired you to learn more about the effect of stress, and how it can trigger learning, behavior and mood problems?Q6: With the impacts of the pandemic, I’m hearing so many new issues emerge with learning challenges that come from the fact that some children didn’t want to return to in school learning, and prefer home schooling, or the opposite, those who are still doing virtual learning at home, are missing the social connection that in person school provides.Q7: What would you say to support our children in each of these situations? What about solutions for screen addiction? I saw it with my youngest daughter the most when she was doing at home learning, missing her friends, and using her devices to stay connected. Now that she has returned to school, how can we lessen her dependence on these devices?Thank you so much Dr. Gluckman for your time today, and your solutions to what many of us are going through whether it’s with our own children at home, or those in the classroom, getting to the root cause of the behavior or learning challenge.I highly recommend Dr. Gluckman’s books and online programs. She does have an online program for raising confident, resilient children that are primed for success that you can access on her website.https://drsandygluckman.com/confident-children-program/You can follow Dr. Gluckman onIG, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter @DrSandyGluckmanhttps://www.youtube.com/user/sandygluckmanAnd visit her website www.drsandygluckman.com and contact Dr. Gluckman for a 30 minute FREE session https://drsandygluckman.com/schedule-call/ Expanded BIO: Dr. Gluckman is the founder of a private practice, Parenting That Heals, where she consults with couples, families and children. Spiritual disciplines (or practices) are central to the Deep Breath podcast, so we dedicate this episode to defining what a discipline is and sharing more about the transformative power of these practices. Simply said, spiritual disciplines are really just a way of posturing ourselves to receive from God and tuning in to God's "radio waves". To get more specifics on some of these disciplines, you'll enjoy these Deep Breath previous episodes that cover these disciplines: #4 Sabbath #11 Journaling #12 Lament #19 Soul Friendships #20 Centering Prayer #21 Lectio Divina #25 Spiritual Direction #26 Examen Recommended Readings: Celebration of Discipline, Richard J. We have been feeling demotivated lately. The COVID situation and quarantine has led to many changes and a disruption of our normal routines. We have pivoted a lot during this period. Every day something new is happening and we got to the point where we are not planning anything including in areas around our health and fitness. I reached out to a few of my trusted friends and they are in the same situation. This realization led to my AHA moment. With half of 2020 gone, we still have the other half to set and achieve some goals. The goals maybe 30-day or 90-day sprints. To achieve these goals, we need restrictive behaviors that call for commitment, dedication, discipline, and focus. We are going to activate our intrinsic power to create change by changing our choices. Creating restrictions and practicing discipline is mindfulness and mindfulness leads to wellness. It's time to get mindful! This is especially important in the areas around health, finances, and time. Then it is all about remaining disciplined to the restrictions. So if you feel stuck and demotivated, the key to getting moving again is to set a goal that inspires you, then have some restrictions that you are happy to make. Key TakeawaysHow slipping out of our routine has affected our motivation (14:09)The psychology behind our habits and choices on our health, food, and fitness (18:52)Having purpose and intention to drive your goals around fitness and health (28:08)Being graceful of our current circumstances, but not making excuses for our habits (29:35)Goal setting for the remaining period of the year (31:33)Why restrictive behaviors are necessary to achieve your goals (32:38)Setting restrictive guidelines around your health, finances and time (35:51)Setting goals that inspire you and restrictions you are happy to make (40:19)Plotting and tracking your progress towards your goal (44:53)Additional Resources:Janelle’s website: JanelleCopeland.comJoin the PUSH Facebook GroupThe Push Podcast’s official website: thePushPodcast.com--If you haven't already, it would be amazing if you could head over to Apple Podcasts And leave a rating and review on the podcast!

Do you always feel busy, but, at the same time, unproductive? Are the things you're doing day-to-day aligned with your values and goals? It may seem that by trying to do it all, you can have it all. But when we spread ourselves too thin, we often find that the things we are spending most of our time on aren't actually the most important things in our lives. On this episode Jen Fisher discusses how to discover and invest in what's essential in our lives with Greg McKeown, best-selling author, speaker, and leading voice on essentialism.
In this episode, we dive into self discipline and how to develop the self discipline needed to achieve your goals.
God calls you and me to trust him. It's the basic premise behind what we call salvation. Our basic, sinful desire is to take control and rule our own existences. But God calls us to give that up and trust him instead of our own ability to take control. This is exactly what Jesus responded to Nicodemus' questions in John 3. In this chapter, Jeff talks about some of the valuable things he's learned from John 3 as well as the value of asking questions as a spiritual discipline. Wrestling with questions like this is a way of moving toward trust in God. It demonstrates we don't know the answer. It demonstrates we're looking for an answer from someone beyond ourselves. This is exactly the kind of person God is looking for. Check out the full show notes and resources for this episode at dailygrowthdiscipleship.com.

It’s a question more employers find themselves asking: “What should I do if one of my employees gets arrested?” Acting on instinct can lead employers in the wrong direction when it comes to arrested employees. Employers need to consult legal counsel and consider all available options before making any decision on the worker’s job status. Also, it’s important that employers be aware of their employees’ rights and act in accordance with those rights. Making the wrong decision may result in a costly lawsuit. In this week’s episode HR expert, Jenni Stone shares the criteria that should be considered before suspending or discharging an employee based upon an arrest. Thank you for listening to this podcast. How God demonstrates His love through discipline
If I was cooler about this I would've made this some sort of ultra-smart April Fool's joke, but you know that's not how we roll at fan-service.org. Sort of done on a lark, this is a Slick Rick inspired rap (loosely) based on the hentai Discipline's ad copy. We originally sent this over to Anime World Order for their "recite Discpline ad copy" requests, but we knew from the start that they weren't gonna play our trash. Like we said in the podcast, we took about 20 minutes out of our day to bang this out. The results are consistant, but try to slough through it anyway. We looooooove you.
