In today's episode, we're resharing Dheeraj Pandey's popular session from ELC Annual 2023 on the disciplined pursuit of less! As the Co-Founder, CEO & Chairman of DevRev.ai, he shares how AI tools can maximize customer impact & reduce information asymmetry between various teams, including eng, customer support, product, sales, etc., ultimately creating a more customer-centric mindset. He reveals how to leverage AI to tackle “verbs,” such as classifying, routing, attributing, summarizing and more, further streamlining productivity and empowering your org to focus on customer needs.ABOUT DHEERAJ PANDEYDheeraj Pandey is the co-founder & CEO of DevRev.ai, one of the hottest startups in Silicon Valley, with over 70 million dollars in seed funding. He previously founded Nutanix (Nasdaq: NTNX), a global leader in enterprise cloud software and hyperconverged infrastructure solutions, and currently sits on the board of Adobe (Nasdaq: ADBE) and is a member of their Audit Committee.Dheeraj co-founded Nutanix in 2009 and led as its CEO and Chairman for 11+ years. Boasting the largest software IPO in 2016, Nutanix is now a multi-billion dollar company with thousands of employees in over 60 countries. Pandey has been recognized with prestigious industry awards, including Dell's Founders 50 and the E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year, Silicon Valley. Before founding Nutanix, Pandey was the VP of engineering at Aster Data (now Teradata). His technology and enterprise software experience include engineering and leadership roles at Oracle, Zambeel and Trilogy Software. Pandey has been recognized with several prestigious industry awards, including Dell's Founders 50 and the E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year, Silicon Valley. Pandey holds a degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, and an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin. In addition, he was a Graduate Fellow of Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin Ph.D. program."In my last company, we had brought almost 7,000 employees together. My biggest job was to really bring all the VPs together. What does it mean for them to work together, behave well together, and respect each other? And it's all because there were all these silos of departments. If you look at the power of AI, AI knows no boundaries. If anything, it needs the entire knowledge graph and the knowledge graph of customers and product and people and their work, not just people on the inside, but also users and their activities on the outside. That's a big problem that we all have to go and solve for.”- Dheeraj Pandey This episode is brought to you by testRigor!testRigor is trusted by tens of thousands of companies across the globe, including Netflix, Splunk, BusinessWire, and more to solve three main problems with end-to-end test automation:It's challenging, expensive, and slow to hire QA Automation EngineersLow productivity building your own QA AutomationFragile tests, that cause maintenance to consume enormous amounts of timetestRigor solves all of the above by allowing our users to express test cases in plain EnglishTo learn more, check out a case study on testRigor hereSign up for a free trial today at testrigor.comSHOW NOTES:The role of essentialism in software dev & company building (1:52)Dheeraj's experience fostering a customer-centric approach in all teams (4:22)Commonly used tools & why they fall short for full eng functions (7:20)Why it's important to connect AI, analytics & collaboration features (10:15)How AI can help solve information asymmetry (13:12)Using AI for analytics to help make teams more customer-centric (15:14)Audience Q&As: A day in the life of a PM using LLMs in an interactive discussion (18:03)Tips for educating users to provide better prompts when using GenAI (22:50)How would a company typically use the DevRev product? Smart Loving–Byron & Francine Pirola–The Disciplined Pursuit of Less (Byron & Francine say that a successful business principle called the disciplined pursuit of less, can be equally applicable to marriage a success. In our have it all culture, the disciplined pursuit of less doesn't sit well. While we are told that we can have it all, it's simply not true. Life is all about choices and trade-offs. This is especially true when it comes to relationships. In our experience, couples who make a success of their marriage keep things focused. Both spouses avoid getting too distracted by the many opportunities in their individual lives and instead stay attuned to the central task; loving each other. This doesn't mean you don't grow and develop as individuals, but equally it does mean you resist living busy lives as married singles.)

Being busy isn't always productive. It's not a badge of honor. And it's not really what you want. A full plate and calendar brings a surplus of stress and depletion of energy.By slowly unwinding from the installed belief that continuing to do more will produce a healthy and fruitful life, and discerning what is absolutely essential to you, then eliminating everything that is not, will allow you to make the highest possible contribution and impact toward the things that really matter in your life.In this episode Krista and Phil discuss the unraveling of their stories of "not enoughness", and practicing more essentialism in their lives, while offering perspective on how we can all find more peace in doing less to do more.
Exposure Day 3 - The Disciplined Pursuit of Knowledge
In this episode, we dig into the book "Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less" by Greg McKeown, exploring its principles and how they can help individuals struggling with burnout or feeling overwhelmed. We discuss the importance of focusing on “doing less but better” and giving full attention to what truly matters in both our professional and personal lives. By examining the framework of essence, explore, eliminate, and execute, we consider how to shift our priorities and create a more fulfilling and balanced experience. We also discuss the pervasive issue of burnout and the importance of identifying what is truly essential in our lives to combat it. Additionally, we delve into the importance of routines and the idea of starting small to generate big results, emphasizing that continuous improvement is more valuable than attempting to achieve perfection. Throughout the episode, we touch on tools and approaches to better understand and apply the concepts of essentialism, highlighting the importance of context when forming and building better habits. Michael Rucker, Ph.D is a behavioral health expert and health technology intrapreneur. Michael has a portfolio of industry accolades and two decades of experience in technology, marketing, and digital strategy. He's created innovative solutions for companies such as Sony, Universal Studios, Red Bull, and Realogy. In 2016, Michael was named a Top 50 influencer in digital health and, that same year, completed a Ph.D. in organizational psychology focusing on effective workplace wellness strategies. As a psychologist, Michael found himself tracking what made him and others happy. This resulted in him understanding the core mechanics behind happiness in our brains. However, when faced with two life-changing events, Michael found that the tools that once worked for him were actually making him more miserable and he had to find a way back to joy. His experience eventually lead to him releasing his newest book “The Fun Habit: How the Disciplined Pursuit of Joy and Wonder can Change Your Life.” Read the show notes on Arcbound's Podcast Page: https://arcbound.com/podcasts/ Find Arcbound here: Homepage: Arcbound.com Services/Work with Us: https://arcbound.com/work-with-us/ About: https://arcbound.com/about/ Founders Corner: https://arcbound.com/category/founders-corner/ Connect: https://arcbound.com/connect/
In this episode we are joined by Mike Rucker, an organizational psychologist and author of "The Fun Habit: How the Disciplined Pursuit of Joy and Wonder Can Change Your Life," to discuss the importance of finding joy and wonder in parenting. Mike emphasizes the importance of emotional flexibility and shared control with children to create positive relationships and memories. He suggests that parents should focus on finding enjoyable activities with their children, rather than just scheduling activities out of duty. By doing so, parents can create lasting memories and positive experiences for both themselves and their children. Rucker also shares what inspired him to write his book, and how the disciplined pursuit of joy and wonder can change one's life for the better. This episode offers valuable insights for parents who want to cultivate more fun and joy in their relationships with their children. For any family man and entrepreneur, there are many things (and people) that are asking for your time and attention. But if we get lost in our to-do list, we'll miss out on those magical moments with our kids and spouse that deepen our connection with them. Taking a few minutes each day to pause and connect with our family can help us to remember why we are working so hard in the first place. It's scary to think about letting go of the steering wheel for a bit. But, fellas, there's no way around the fact that we'll spend our entire lives looking back and wondering where the time went if we don't make time for enjoyment and fun intentionally. And I'm excited to share this conversation with Mike Rucker. Mike is a behavioral scientist with a PhD in organizational psychology and a peer-reviewed author who has been featured in the Wall Street Journal and Forbes. In his new book, The Fun Habit, Mike distills decades of life experience and academic research into a practical roadmap for bringing more fun into your life. One thing I took away from our epic conversation is that, as high achievers, we need to stop trying to "hack" our way to happiness and start doing more things that make us happy. Today, we discuss how play improves our relationships and how we sabotage our happiness and feel powerless to change that. We also dig into Mike's tried and tested strategies for finding adult ways to be playful so that you can be happier and a more mindful parent and husband. Mike Rucker Podcast Highlights The importance of play - with your spouse, kids, friends and other loved ones. Happiness is not a sprint. It's a lifetime journey. Becoming aware of how you spend your time is the first step toward a joyful life. Experiences will always make you happier than material possessions. The importance of working through trauma to make way for joy. How to push back against the systems that destroy our attention and mindfulness. The “24/7 hustle and grind” mindset will make you richer while making you miserable. Don't just tell your kids what to do. Lead through your actions. I get asked a lot about why I became an essentialist, and I have to say that I was rather unwilling at first. I am not usually one to go into details on the show about this story in particular, but it felt great to get a little nitty gritty on this short show to lay the groundwork for more to come. Candice is a mom, podcaster and essentialist who loves to engage in courageous conversations, especially about truth, trust and boundaries. (Check out her podcast, Create the Ripple Podcast) She has learned the power of saying no and speaks openly about subtle abuse as it occurs in relationships - personally and professionally. Knowing that peace, freedom and integrity start inside, Candice is an advocate for knowing your own truth and speaking it clearly and powerfully - at home, at work and to yourself. After a narcissistic partner cheated on her with multiple women, left her (and the country!) with over 350 thousand dollars worth of bad debt, Candice was forced to rebuild her life, her credit and, most importantly, her trust in herself. The journey was not without its impact and Candice shares powerfully about dealing with anxiety, shame and learning to let go. When grief rocked her world in 2020, Candice knew it was time to finally do the deeper healing work she had been putting off and change her negative patterns for good. Emerging from this place, Candice now embraces her wild, fierce and receptive feminine nature. The journey to be and embrace all the parts of herself has led her to the place to start her wildly successful Create the Ripple Podcast; Trust the Niggle and Tell the Truth - where she features guests who are living in their truth and integrity. Original Air Date: October 18, 2021Less is more. Truly. But as humans we always seem to want more. Is the desire for more causing us to lose what truly matters? In this episode, I share my thoughts on the practice of pursuing less. Some refer to this as ‘essentialism' since the purpose is to maintain a deep focus on only the most important things in life. This discipline is just like any in that it takes a lot of practice. Mindfulness. An active re-commitment to simplifying things we try to complicate.According to Greg McKeown, “It's a systematic discipline for discerning what is absolutely essential, then eliminating everything that is not, so we can make the highest possible contribution toward the things that really matter.”If you feel:• burnt out• overworked• unproductive• unhappy, but too busy to change it… then this might be the change you're looking for. A way to finally take control of your life and jump off the treadmill that's leading nowhere, but exhausting you. I invite you to have a listen, to see if what's in this episode makes the difference in your outlook that it has on mine.tomearl.me/dp
Do you ever find yourself not laughing as much with your kids? Do you miss the fun of your younger years? My guest today is Michael Rucker, author of, “The Fun Habit” - How the Disciplined Pursuit of Joy and Wonder can Change your Life. He is also an organizational psychologist, behavioral scientist and charter member of the International Positive Psychology Association. Learn more - https://michaelrucker.com/ After a string of misfortune in 2016, including Mike's brother's untimely death, he began to critically evaluate modern approaches to happiness. During this journey, he had an epiphany: his pursuit of happiness was actually making him… unhappy. He realized trying to be “happy” only drew his attention to what was missing. Fixating on his lack of happiness made him label himself as unhappy, and he came to realize that the maladaptive label was bleeding into his identity. This left him with the question: If deliberately chasing happiness leaves me miserable, what's the alternative? Then, after years of research and trial and error, a second crucial insight clicked into place: We can't always make ourselves happy, but we all possess the agency to find ways to be more joyful and have more fun. Unlike happiness, fun isn't something that may or may not arise under the perfect circumstances or when all of my “if-onlys” are fulfilled. Having fun is an action anyone can take here and now practically anywhere, anytime. And if you're a cynic like he was and need to see the proof, science shows us that fun is enormously beneficial to our well-being, both physically and psychologically. So, let's have fun together. In this episode, Courtney guides you through understanding how a sustainable lifestyle of pursuing less can not only enhance your quality of life, but is actually of greater service to the world! We discuss where the underlying energy of discontent arises while chasing numerous goals, what's at stake from living in this manner, and what does it look like to transcend this? If you are someone who constantly feels frustrated while running in so many directions, this is for you! Many folks are living in excess in our current day; excess in terms of over-working, over-exercising, etc. Some stay busy to avoid processing emotions, others to seek validation from outside, or to feel worthy themselves. Whatever the case, living in excess can be quite barren. Not only can it be straining to your well-being, and therefore not sustainable, it can lead to going through the motions of life rather than moving from a purposeful, powerful and productive presence. By learning to move more intentionally and follow a disciplined pursuit of less, you can begin to see with a clearer heart and mind due to feeling excited and invigorated by the deep, rich, and fulfilling gift that is your life. I touch on it in the episode, but it's worth stating here: I'm not saying delayed gratification & the pursuit of more is BAD. This episode is illuminating where a constant pursuit of more can cause Self harm. After listening, I'd love to hear from you on Instagram… How do you plan to apply doing less, better? How can you create more white space in your life to invite in more alignment, ease, and efficiency & create the greatest work of art there is, your life? Thank you SO much for tuning in and see you in the next episode! As 2021 winds down and we approach the New Year, it's so easy to get caught up in the chaos of the holiday season and write off the end of the year as a loss, putting our goals and intentions aside and telling ourselves “We''ll start fresh again in January.” But then inevitably when the new year hits and we create resolutions, life still gets in the way which leads to over 92% of New Year's resolutions failing. (Don't worry...I'm just as guilty as anyone else.) If you intend to make things happen in 2022, you don't need resolutions → you need a plan. That's why for the last 5 weeks of this year I'm going to share with you my top 5 interviews on designing a more fulfilling life, setting goals, building habits, and taking actions that get you long term results. Imagine if instead of crawling to the finish line the next five weeks in a haze of holiday indulgence you instead took the time to identify your true values, prioritize your life down to only the essential, learn to set habits that you'll stick to, and ultimately focus on doing important work that matters to you? How much further ahead of the game would you be? I'm not saying you have to start exercising 5 days a week, stop eating sugar and carbs, wake up and meditate at 5am every morning, or add 20 new activities to your daily routine during the most stressful month of the year...but wouldn't it be awesome starting 2022 with a clear plan and the motivation to get started? If this sounds like a better alternative, then stick with me for the next five weeks as I and five of the world's foremost experts on setting goals and getting things done help you design a plan so 2022 can be the year that everything finally came together for you. So without further adieu, here is the second part of this five interview series with New York Times bestselling author and podcaster Greg McKeown. → Click here to go to the original episode show notes of the interview with Greg McKeown → Click here to get my free 5-part email course that will help you get started on your hero's journey
