Sheffield, first elected in 2020, celebrated the win at her Mableton home and emphasized her commitment to serving all constituents, regardless of party affiliation. Her victory, alongside Democrat Erick Allen's in District 2, restores the Cobb County Commission's Democratic majority. Hardwick, the first Republican to run for the seat in years, narrowed Sheffield's early voting lead but fell short. Sheffield's next term will focus on health and wellness in her district. STORY 2: Murph's Restaurant to Close for Galleria Remodel, Future Uncertain The future of Murph’s, a restaurant and bar opened by Braves legend Dale Murphy in 2017, is uncertain as the Cobb Galleria Centre undergoes a major remodel. The Galleria’s renovation, set to begin this fall, includes demolishing the space where Murph’s is located. Initially assured they’d be part of the remodel, the Murphys were recently informed their restaurant is no longer in the plans. Despite strong community support and success, Murph’s is set to close in August. The Murphys hope to negotiate a solution in an upcoming meeting with Galleria management but are also exploring other location options near Truist Park. STORY 3: Cobb EMC Directors Look Back on Scandal, Discuss Looming Term Limits Cobb EMC has rebounded from a decade of scandal under former CEO Dwight Brown, who was accused of self-dealing and mismanagement, leaving the co-op in financial turmoil. Since then, a new board elected in 2011-2012 has transformed the organization, achieving some of the lowest electric rates in Georgia and top national reliability. However, term limits approved in 2012 mean the entire board will be replaced between 2026 and 2028, raising concerns about the loss of institutional knowledge. While directors support term limits, some suggest staggering turnover to ease transitions. The co-op remains in strong standing, with members set to elect new leadership in the coming years. The District 2 seat was vacated in February after Jerica Richardson's removal due to a redistricting battle. Michael's journey began at the age of 12 when he started his first business in his mother's orchard in the mountains of Oregon, hiring workers to pick and process fruit for him to sell. After moving to Arizona for college, he started a manufacturers rep business selling car waxes and cleaning products to auto dealerships. This business was acquired two years later with 22 full-time employees representing over 30 manufacturers. Michael's next investment was in a trucking company (Dump Trucks) in Ohio, which he grew into a successful asphalt paving business with over 100 employees over the course of 10 years. In 2013, Michael and his family moved back to Arizona, where he took a position/investment with Sunland Asphalt. His goal was to invest time in something he could have an active role in developing culture, growing sales, establishing processes, and building something bigger than he felt he could do on his own. Sunland Asphalt's strategic goal was to grow the business from roughly 250 employees and $120m in revenue to over $200m in revenue with the right culture and processes so it could be marketed successfully. At the time of exit, Sunland's revenue was over $300m with over 700 employees and a culture that was known not only in Phoenix but nationally. Michael's passion for building businesses with employees led him to make the biggest investment of his career here at TRENCH-ADE. Once again, his eye is set on developing culture, growing sales, establishing processes and building a business that multiple generations can benefit from. Michael wants to have a lifelong effect on each person he and TRENCH-ADE touch. For Michael, his family always comes first. He is married to his wife Alisha, an Ohio State University graduate who helped build the paving business in Ohio. Together they have two children, Edward and Makena, who are the center of their world. To Michael, being a good person is measured by three simple things: being kind, honest, and working hard. He instills these values in his children and is proud of their accomplishments. Edward is in High School and runs Cross Country and spent last summer working as a lifeguard, while Makena is a National Jr honors society student, an avid softball player and started her own business last summer to earn money.Aside from his family and Trench-Ade, Michael is an active philanthropist and community leader. The Clarke County Commission voted to buy nine new dump trucks Tuesday as well as a new tractor and cutter. The new trucks will cost approximately 7,000 each or just over million for the entire purchase. Commissioner Jackie Ray Rush said that was a good price and the county needs to lock it in and have a commitment as soon as possible. Delivery may be a question. The Clarke County Commission attended to a lengthy agenda Tuesday, 20 agenda items plus discussion on several topics and reports from department heads. Commissioners agreed to purchase a new Gradall, a piece of equipment used by the Road and Bridge Department in the maintenance of county roads. County Engineer Jake Bailey explained that it will replace an old one. The recent sale of the county's dump trucks netted the county just over 0,000 and Bailey proposed that the Gradall be paid for with some of those funds. When Dominique aka “Domo” was only 19 years old He was incarcerated on a felony drug conviction. He was released 9 years later at the age of 28. When Domo came home, he had to adjust to society and more importantly try become a productive member of it. While in prison Domo, studied for his CDL knowledge test and got his License immediately after release . He had interest in Trucking for 2 reasons. One, it's was a trade and skill that one could take away from him And The second Which I won't spoil for you. Interestingly, After getting his license, Domo did not drive for 4 years, still dabbling in the streets trying to find his way adjust. Eventually, He decided that he no longer wanted to gamble with his life and he had to do something else. He jumped back into Trucking... Though most companies would not be receptive to Domo because of his past and prior felony conviction He was given a shot to drive a dump truck for a local small business owner with One dump truck. This experience would be a pivotal moment for Domo as he would learn the dump truck industry. He would establish himself as a worker and find out how, when and where to get work by making all the right connections with some key players In the industry. Soon, Domo felt that he was Ready for entrepreneurship. In 2017, Domo purchased his own brand new #kenworth dump truck to drive and started Pull-up bar master, LLC named after his passion for fitness and doing pull ups. In 2018 he purchased his 2nd truck and last year in 2020 he purchased 7 more. Many people have questioned a criticized Domo quick ascension, but he maintains that there is a method to his madness and he continues to prove the naysayers wrong. Domo continues to grow his company and fleet as a owner and now a broker providing opportunities for other small dump trucks companies. He accepts the fact that at one point he took from his community so now it's his responsibility to give back by providing jobs. I can assure you, this podcast is one of the realest most uncut show we've recorded to date. Jairo took his savings and invested everything he had and bought his first truck in 2016, Brand new! By the end of that year he had 5 more.
