Do we have the entire Ennegram within us? Yes.Can we relate to all 9 types? Absolutely as it's a scale of our humanity and never intended to put us in any box. But there are 5 types that we are primarily tied to:•Our main type•Wing (L)•Wing (R)•Stress Line (unaware)•Security/Growth Line (aware) These are the main energies we access and utilize. We can also access the higher and lower sides of ALL of these 5 main types. So the high *and* lower side of both wings, the high *and* lower side of both our stress and security lines.... It's so much deeper and nuanced than even I show here but I did wanted to layout a more broad view of each type. How do you use YOUR main 5 types? Let's talk about it! (Content Warning: This episode contains mention of suicidal ideation, self-harm, and sexual abuse while discussing journeys through mental illness) As many of you know, May is Mental Health Awareness Month. This week, I invited Sharon Kim onto the podcast to discuss her own mental health and illness journey and her passionate involvement in bringing awareness and bridging the gap for better mental health access for Korean Americans. Sharon serves as the Executive Director at Mustard Seed Generation (MSG), a nonprofit organization that exists to lower mental health barriers in the Korean American community. She was born in Paraguay to Korean parents and grew up in Paraguay, Spain, and China and has worked in Korea and Mexico. Growing up as a global nomad, she experienced hardships that many Third Culture Kids go through, namely anxiety that comes from constantly moving around as well as a sense of rootlessness and identity crisis. Through those experiences, she became passionate about raising awareness of cross-cultural kids to mono-cultural parents and hopes to help strengthen parent-child relationships through MSG. She holds a bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature from Seoul National University and a master's degree in International Education Policy from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Sharon enjoys going anywhere and everywhere on a journey with her brown leather journal, a black pen, and a good book in hand in her spare time. Sharon is an Ennegram 1w2 and her MBTI goes between an INFJ - The Advocate and an ENFJ - The Protagonist Instagram: @msgeneration Podcast: Research Sense for Korean American Therapy Register for their upcoming Mental Health Training for Korean American Church Leaders If you loved this episode as much as I did, head on over to rate and subscribe so you never miss an episode! Recovery has been described as “solitary work that is too important to do alone”. In other words, the hard work of recovery is on the interior self, but, the journey inward needs to be taken with compassionate, caring others. At the same time, one of the major drivers of addiction - both in its beginning and its prolonging - is shame, and shame often keeps us from being willing to enter healing community and relationships. So finding a community that can help absorb the shame is often a key to successful, long-term recovery. But imagine you struggle deeply with shame and alcoholism but also tend toward an introverted personality, one that would prefer to do life through an escape inward into the life of the mind, withholding much of your emotional life and your true self from those around you. That was the challenge that our Ennegram-type 5 guest faced both in her early attempts at recovery and in a later confusing and terrifying relapse. Join us as Kristi Fines shares with raw honesty and hopeful insight about the struggles of her personality type to seek out and 'give herself away' to a community that could help her move way from the grip shame and isolation had on her life.

We are loving our I Am Speaking with Expert Voices series, and this week's guest is no exception. We think you'll love him as much as we did: Mr. Joel Hubbard, cofounder of The Art of Growth and a certified Enneagram Coach.  You might have heard about Ennegram, or heard that it's “one of those personality tests.” But what you'll learn from this conversation is how much deeper the enneagram insights can go, if you are willing to do the work (that's the tough part, right?)  Joel's life work has revolved around seeing people grow and transform. Globally recognized as a leader in the field of Enneagram coaching and development, Joel has a unique approach to helping people develop self knowledge, self observation, and transformational habits. Joel helps individuals and teams understand their core motivations so they have better communication and shared success.  Moreover, Joel is just a lovely man. We laughed so much throughout our discussions. But we learned so much as well. It's easy to see how Joel has risen to the top and become a true expert in his field.

In today's episode we are joined by Tyler Currier, an Ennegram type 7 who is also in long-term recovery from drugs and alcohol. Sevens are often ‘life-of-the-party' personalities, constantly filling their days and nights with new and exciting experiences. Often this over-planning can become emotionally gluttonous in nature, where if a little is good then more has to be better This overuse of their mental space tends to keep unconscious Sevens in the future and thus disconnected from being fully present. As a result they rarely process life's experiences effectively or deeply which limits their emotional and relational growth. When you then add substance use as an option to instantly change the way you feel with that personality style it can easily lead to serious addiction. But Sevens can prolong addiction because they are natural masters of the mental energy required to stay in denial, which allows them to fool others along with themselves over long periods. That was Tyler's journey for many years until he faced a shock-point in his life, was welcomed into a Narcotics Anonymous (NA) fellowship, found sobriety and eventually a timely and powerful intersection of his Christian faith and the promises of the 12 Steps in the world-wide ministry of Celebrate Recovery. Join us for some help, hope and humor as Tyler shares part of his story of addiction, redemption and giving back.

Ennegram type Fours are some of the deepest, most beautiful souls on the planet. In fact, Fours have been described by some as the ‘Bringers of Holy Beauty' and Fours are often incredibly and distinctively creative. Members of the Heart Triad of the enneagram, they can display a seemingly unlimited range of emotions, ranging from deep melancholy and darkness to fantastically bright and beautiful and everywhere in between. Fours deeply feel they are somehow different from everyone else, and while they might love being different that dynamic can also be quite frustrating for them as they regularly wrestle with a sense that there is always something essential ‘missing', that they may even be disconnected from their Source. In this episode I get to catch up with Lauren Taylor, who identifies as an Ennegram ego-type Four. Speaking of ‘identity' , Lauren also identifies as wife, mother, counselor, Auburn football fan and - most significantly for her - Christ-follower. Listen in as Lauren recounts some of her life journey as a Four and how God has been tenderly revealing a unique plan.

On this episode I'm talking about the six life and business lessons I learned in 2020. This episode is sponsored by my FREE training: 3 legal & tax mistakes made by creative entrepreneurs & how you can avoid them. Sign up for this free Masterclass here, and get ready to unf*ck your biz. (1) Life lesson: Minimalism is fantastic My desire for minimalism stems from my Ennegram 7 and need for control when stressed. Minimalism and cleaning allows you to take control of your space. On this episode I discuss a conversation I recently had with one of my students about the message that minimalism sends, and thoughts that the message of minimalism is one associated with elitism. I subscribe to the phrase, "Cluttered space, cluttered mind." Minimalism has helped me on the business side of my life to streamline my offers. I've gotten my business down to one funnel (check it out here). It will walk you through the steps to unfuck your biz. Minimalism has helped to curb my spending, my shopping for items I don't need, and my household cleaning. (2) Business lesson: Serve, serve, and serve some more Put out helpful information in the form of content and your audience will come to you (but don't give it all so you still have something to sell). Give yourself the creative time and space in your business to be able to adapt quickly and provide more immediate help to things that are immediately needed. For example, many of my clients are wedding professionals and when COVID hit and events were being postposed, I pivoted my business to focus my content more on contracts so I could help vendors. I worked with other educators to provide contract education, which did lead to an increase in my email list. Keep your eyes and ears open for what can be useful to the people you're serving. (3) Takeaways from the Black Lives Matter movement Conversations this year went beyond the political issues at hand and circled back to our lives as a whole and how even if we thought we were on the right side of history, how we were failing in our own lives to improve the systems as a whole. I spoke a lot with friends on lack of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the online and entrepreneurial space and the differing views on posting the black square on Instagram. You may need to put a conscious effort into following individuals with my diverse backgrounds and viewpoints than you. Following more Black educators, broadening your network and listening to a more diverse range of individuals. If you are looking for contacts that offer diversity, equity, and inclusion training, reach out. I have some friends that would be happy to speak with you. (4) I got a lot done this year I love the quote from Bill Gates, "we often overestimate what we can do in one year and often underestimate what we can do in 10 years." This year I launched Unf*ck Your Biz twice (helping 36 total business owner), launched the alumni membership, created a new course for beginner business owners, and wrote and released a book. Looking back, 2019 was a trial period, creating all the programs I thought I needed to serve and 2020 was the year I realized I missed the mark and began to restructure my programs to meet needs and now I'm ready to scale in 2021. To grow your business in a systemized way, it's important to think about your offers and how you're meeting the needs of the market. (5) Responses to circumstances that are out of our control vary per person Don't stress out about how you handled 2020m everyone's reactions are different. I like to keep myself busy (not saying it's healthy) and others not so much. Either way totally ok. (6) Sometimes things fucking suck, and they don't need a positive spin Going back to my enneagram 7, I like to put a positive spin on everything. People don't always like that and it's not always helpful when I jump into problem solving mode or try to spin something into a positive. It's a hard lesson for me, but there isn't always a positive to everything and it's okay to give someone space and let them know you hear them without making it into a positive. Share your life and business takeaways from 2020 in my free Facebook Group, Braden's Besties.

Enneagram is a personality framework. In this episode, Vrin Rao provides an overview of the nine energy types, and explains how Ennegram can be used as a tool for personal growth. She also discusses her personal meditation practice, and how mindfulness can help us during these overwhelming times. Vrindavan (Vrin) Rao is an Enneagram Coach and Meditation Teacher. She works with women and those who identify with the female energy to build strong and healthy relationships with themselves and others. She does this by using the personality framework of the Enneagram which helps us to understand the lens our ego sees the world through. Depending on that particular lens, we internalize and process occurrences, words, actions and circumstances in very unique ways that cause our ego to either categorize it as triggering (a particular identity I hold dear is being called into question - DO SOMETHING NOW!) or validating (Ah! I'm being seen as I want to be seen). It is our response to our egos' that spill out in interactions we have with ourselves and others in both the personal and professional settings. By understanding what we are driven by, we develop greater awareness, understanding and acceptance of ourselves and others.Vrin is also a meditation teacher and a life-long practitioner of nada yoga (the yoga of sound), japa yoga (the yoga of meditative mantra recitation) and kirtan yoga. She is also well-versed in tantra, chakra meditation, swara yoga (the science of the breath) and yoga nidra (psychic sleep). If you are interested in learning more about how the Enneagram can shed greater insights into your relationships with yourself and others, she offers Enneagram Consultations and ongoing coaching.
