Welcome back! Tonight's bedtime storytelling is 'The Tears of Prunella' by Evelyn Sharp. In this dreamy fairytale, we follow a young lad who is deaf due to an enchantment bestowed upon him by the whims of fairyland. This enchantment separates him from the world he so dearly wishes to be a part of and, with unwavering determination, he seeks to become a real boy—not for the sake of hearing the songs of birds or the rustle of the wind, but to hear the tears of his princess and offer the comfort that only true friendship can provide. As always, the story begins with a short 'settling in relaxation' followed by the storytelling. The soft background music will continue for short while after the storytelling to help you transition to sleep. Enjoy and sweet dreams!Your friend,Joanne :)Attributions:Intro music 'Tranquility Lane' by Dawn Dawn Dawn via Epidemic SoundStory music 'Adrift' by Christopher Lloyd ClarkThe Tears of Prunella (from the book 'The Other Side of the Sun) by Evelyn Sharp & resides in the public domainBecome a Drift Off Premium member today and receive: intro free listening to all episodes NO ADS or sponsorship announcements 2 monthly bonus episodes get early access and listen first to some podcast episodes ad-free YouTube audiobooks for your enjoyment and relaxation a monthly guided sleep relaxation *You can subscribe via Apple Podcasts OR using the link driftoff.supercast.comFeel free to drop by on the podcast website to learn more about it!https://www.driftoffpodcast.com Content Warning Disclaimer: This podcast is a sleep aid for adults. In this riveting episode of "Wonder Women of Aviation," we dive headfirst into the exhilarating life of Evelyn Sharp, affectionately known as Sharpie. An accomplished aviatrix who blazed a trail in the skies during a time when few women dared to fly. Sharpie's story is one of courage, resilience, and passion - from her spectacular feats in flight training to her pivotal role in the formation of the Women's Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron (WAFS). Tragically, her life was cut short, but her legacy continues to inspire. Through the efforts of Aviana, we keep Sharpie's memory alive as we soar the skies in a Luscombe aircraft, similar to the one Sharpie herself taught in, adorned in her honor with her iconic nose art. Join us as we celebrate the remarkable journey of this Wonder Woman of Aviation. In this episode I'm joined by Michelle Reynolds, who researches into representations of the New Woman in fin de siècle illustration. We discuss how the New Woman was featured in art, specifically in illustration. We observe how fairy tales writers like Evelyn Sharp used these to push forward ideas about feminism, reflecting what was in New Woman fiction but aiming these ideas at children. We consider how such tales explored gender identity and dress, coinciding with how the New Woman's dress was seen as a threat to society (alongside demasculinised men and the dandy figure)About my guest: Michelle Reynolds is a PhD student at the University of Exeter. Her thesis looks at the relationship between the New Woman's emergence and the professionalism of women illustrators at the British fin de siècle as well as the New Woman's visual representation and how women illustrators contributed to this representation. More broadly, her research interests include art and literature of the long nineteenth century, women artists, gender and sexuality, print and exhibition culture, photography, and fashion. She is currently a Postgraduate Representative for the University of Exeter's Centre for Victorian Studies and a Board Member for the journal Romance, Revolution and Reform based at the University of Southampton. Michelle also has an upcoming chapter in the Women in Power collection (edited by Dr Fern Riddell, Dr Emma Butcher, and Dr Bob Nicholson). Michelle's chapter will be in Volume 1: "Bodies: Female Agency, Identity and Sex in the 19th Century". It's not that it's easy, but using violence — which Chase and Oliver still do throughout the season — is sort of the go-to. What's been interesting to see this year is to see that but the underpinnings of it being so psychological and so manipulative and so built on the underpinnings of what Chase knows about Oliver and who he is. This was the perfect storm — a great way to change up the villain and to get inside of Oliver's head in a season that we needed to. We needed him to be reflective and talking and looking back at his past, and Chase was the perfect spark to light that fire.” Link:http://comicbook.com/2017/05/11/arrow-prometheus-robert-queen/   Arrow Season 6 To Explore the Conflicts Between Being Mayor and Being Green Arrow (Date: 10 May 2017) During a recent interview, showrunner Wendy Mericle told ComicBook.com that the man in the hood will still be spending his days at City Hall come 2016. Mericle said, “What's going to be a central question for season 6 is how can he do both? We've played with that in the past in different ways before, but I think that the success of what he's done in the mayor's office and his ability to have impact is going to raise those stakes to a different level and hopefully create some great stories.” Link:http://comicbook.com/2017/05/11/arrow-season-6-oliver-mayor/   Matt's Inside Line: Scoop on Arrow, Once, Chicago Fire, Elementary, Blindspot, The Flash, NCIS and More! (Date: 09 May 2017) Black Siren is a badass villain. What can we expect? —You can expect… badass villainy. “She comes back as part of Chase's plan,” says co-showrunner Wendy Mericle. ” Chase knows exactly what he's doing, and he understands how unsettling seeing somebody that looks like Laurel Lance is going to be for the rest of the team,” her “dad” Quentin included. “And from a writing perspective, it's just fun storytelling. Katie Cassidy does an amazing job as Black Siren, and seeing her take on Dinah, or her take on Lance, is going to be fun.”                                   This will be the first Arrow season finale that does not take place in Starling City. Can we expect the same kind of intense fights, or will this be more of an emotional showdown? —“Both,” answers Wendy Mericle. “One of the fun parts of having Prometheus and Oliver going toe-to-toe this season has been they're both really great fighters, but by the same token, Prometheus is a tremendous psychological villain and he's going to hit Oliver right where it hurts. That's going to be a double whammy for him in the finale.” Link:http://tvline.com/2017/05/09/arrow-season-5-spoilers-black-siren-returns/   GENERAL DC TV NEWS Supergirl EP Teases General Zod's Arrival, Comic-Inspired Appearance (Date: 06 May 2017) The “how” and “when” of General Zod's arrival on Supergirl remains a mystery, but thanks to executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, at least we know what the legendary DC Comics villain will be wearing. He says that Supergirl‘s Zod (played by Smallville actor Mark Gibbon) will be sporting “a little bit of that Nazi uniform look you'd see in the comics in the '60s. Visually, he has a different look from the mechanical armor that Man of Steel did, or the real spacey clothes Richard Donner's version had. Link:http://tvline.com/2017/05/06/supergirl-general-zod-spoilers-new-season-2-interview/   The Flash boss on how everyone will react to that Savitar reveal (Date: 08 May 2017) As revealed during last week's episode of The Flash, Savitar is actually a future version of the Scarlet Speedster, a heavily scarred Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) hellbent on killing Iris (Candice Patton) for as-yet-unknown reasons. Suffice it to say, Team Flash will certainly be shocked by this turn of events during Tuesday's episode. “What's interesting about people's reactions — we certainly wrote it, but just the way the cast performs it — is it's one thing to have seen that giant metal suit and hear that there is a version of Barry inside of it,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg tells EW. “It's quite another thing when you actually come face-to-face with what's inside.” Plus, watch a trailer for the final episodes of season 3. The Justice Society of America was conceived by editor Sheldon Mayer and writer Gardner Fox. The JSA first appeared in All Star Comics #3 (Winter 1940–1941). VIXEN - Probably the most recognizable member of the JSA's cast this time around was Vixen -- at least for fans of the CWverse. In addition to having her own animated series, Vixen -- an African-American woman who derives the power of animals from the Tantu Totem she wears around her neck -- had a memorable guest appearance on Arrow last season. Of course, that's all Mari. This woman? Mari's grandmother, Amaya Jiwe, who passed the totem down through their family. HOURMAN - Rex Tyler, also known as Hourman, is a Golden Age superhero and the first of a number of characters to use the Hourman name. Tyler has a number of superhuman abilities, like enhanced strength, reflexes, and healing -- but only for an hour at a time. His abilities are given to him by Miraclo, a drug he designed himself. There is an Hourman legacy including Rex's son Rick and an android from the 853rd Century programmed to act as a member of the Tyler family. The android, at a point in the past, presented Rex with an hourglass infused with tachyons -- time in its most basic form -- and that hourglass would become part of both his and Rick's costumes. Said hourglass has been seen on board the Waverider on previous episodes of DC's Legends of Tomorrow.. STARGIRL - Stargirl is Courtney Whitmore. In the TV series, she exists in 1942 -- but in the original comics, she was created (and existed) in 1999, and was part of a "next generation" of Justice Society members who came up in the late '90s and early 2000s. Courtney Whitmore was created by Geoff Johns and Lee Moder, and has a famous backstory: Johns named her after (and based her personality on) his sister Courtney, who died in the explosion of TWA Flight 800 in 1996. COMMANDER STEEL - Commander Steel is Hank Heywood, Sr., the first in a line of DC heroes to use variations on the Steel moniker. A legend in the World War II era and a member of the All-Star Squadron and later the Justice Society of America, Heywood's body had surgically-implanted mechanized steel devices that allowed his body to work on a superhuman level. Originally just "Steel," he was promoted to Commander Steel by President Roosevelt in 1940 -- so while this is his first appearance in live action, it's timeline-accurate to call him Commander Steel by this point in his career since the story takes place in 1942. DOCTOR MID-NITE - Doctor Mid-Nite is a name shared by a number of blind super-heroes and physicians with the ability to see in the darkness, using blackout bombs and martial arts to gain an advantage over criminals. Doctor Mid-Nite was created by Charles Reizenstein and Stan Aschmeier, first appearing in All-American Comics #25. OBSIDIAN - Obsidian is the son of Golden Age Green Lantern Alan Scott, a founding member of the JSA in the comics. He and his sister Jade would go on to play an important role in the Justice Society's sinoff groups the Young All-Stars and Infinity, Inc., as well as eventually joining the Justice Society itself. He was also briefly affiliated with the Justice League. LEAVENWORTH - The United States Penitentiary, Leavenworth is a medium-security United States federal prison for male inmates in northeast Kansas. On Arrow, it was revealed that Leavenworth is where John Diggle is being held while awaiting his court martial. KRIEGER - There are basically two figures who could have inspired Baron Krieger, even though there is no specific Baron Krieger in DC Comics. The first is Baron Blitzkrieg: Originally a World War II German army officer, the man who would be Baron Blitzkrieg was blinded when a concentration camp prisoner threw acid into his face. German scientists experimented on him, giving him injections of experimental drugs which would give him incredible powers for brief periods of time. The other possibility is Albrecht Krieger, who was basically Captain America, but for Nazis. A genetically-modified super-soldier, Krieger also had a mad scientist brother and a psychic  sister we might have to worry about if it's him -- and while the backstory feels a lot more like Blitzkrieg's, Krieger has not only the name but the general look of this week's threat. MAX LORENZ - Max Lorenz was a famous singer, who lived in Germany around the time of World War II and is widely known as "Hitler's favorite tenor." Of course, it's a handy thing that Legends of Tomorrow star Victor Garber has the pipes to make that scene convincing. UBERMENSCH - It's worth noting that there are several references to "Übermensch" in here, which is derived from Nietzsche in Thus Spake Zarathustra, one of the influences for Superman, which is more or less what the word translates to directly. The term can literally translate to "Overman," which in the DC Comics universe is an alternate-universe version of Superman who lives on an Earth where the Nazis won World War II.REVERSE-FLASH - Eobard Thawne, the Reverse-Flash, may have something up his sleeve. At the end of The Flash's Season 3 premiere earlier this month, he said that while his future was as it should be, Barry's might not be. Barry then went home to discover a number of small anomalies that made his life and those of his friends worse. Now, we learn that "somebody" is outfitting the villains of history with future tech in order to push the world to a slightly worse place. Could Eobard Thawne have stepped right out of "Flashpoint" and into "Out of Time?" Either way, seeing him and Darhk together is enough to make seasoned Arrowverse fans quake in their boots even before they know the other members of Thawne's little Legion of Doom. ARROW NEWS THE CW RENEWS ARROW, FLASH, SUPERGIRL AND LEGENDS OF TOMORROW (Date: 08 Jan 2017) Renewal will bring “Arrow” to Season Six, “The Flash” to Season Four, and “Supergirl” and “Legends of Tomorrow” each to Season Three. It will mark “Supergirl's” second season on The CW, following its freshman outing on CBS. However, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), still reeling from Detective Malone's murder, is bent on revenge – she wants to stop Prometheus at any cost. While in prison, Diggle (David Ramsey) fights for his life. Gregory Smith directed the episode written by Ben Sokolowski & Brian Ford Sullivan. Guggenheim also teased that Felicity will a meet a few people in the back half of the season that are connected to her past. Additionally, he explained that Felicity's new, darker direction can't be blamed solely on Billy Malone's death. Rather, her experiences over the course of the show will culminate in her new attitude. “Billy was the final straw,” he said. “It's also the sum of the fact that Felicity has been living in this darker world for the last four-plus years now…. How has that affected her way of thinking about things?” He added that this will be directly addressed in Season 5 Episode 11. Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrow-the-calculator-is-not-returning-yet/    ARROW: Greg Berlanti Teases More Appearances From Laurel Lance Across The CW (Date: 10 Jan 2017) While it hasn't been confirmed 100%, it's a pretty safe bet that this Laurel is the evil Black Siren from Earth 2, who was originally introduced in The Flash last year. While her motivations remain unknown, Arrow producer Greg Berlanti has teased the character's involvement in more than just the events of Arrow's fifth season. “We made a deal at the end of [season 4] to bring her back for a bunch of episodes. Katie is a part of the fabric of the show. Because the show, like a comic book, can move in different ways, and characters go and come, everybody that's ever been a part of the key and core ensemble has always had a place at the table for our show. There's the capacity for her to be [in all four shows]. At this moment, she's in three of them.” Link:https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/arrow/arrow-greg-berlanti-teases-more-appearances-from-laurel-lance-across-a148060     ARROW EPS ADMIT IT'S HARD TO DO THE SHOW WITHOUT A BLACK CANARY (Date: 11 Jan 2017) Co-showrunner Wendy Mericle said, “Look, it's hard to do a show about Green Arrow without having a Black Canary. I don't know if it will happen this season or when, but… we are going to be true to origins in the DC universe, and she's always going to be there.” So far on the show, three characters have carried the Canary name: Sara Lance, Laurel Lance and Evelyn Sharp. After trying to convince Rip of who he was, they discover that he possesses an incredibly powerful artifact known as the Spear of Destiny, which the Legion of Doom is after. Ray (Bradon Routh) and Nate (Nick Zano) realize that the Aberration has also affected them personally making it difficult to help the team.  Meanwhile, Rory (Dominic Purcell) asks Stein (Victor Garber) for help and makes him promise to keep it a secret from the team. Caity Lotz, Franz Drameh and Maisie Richardson-Sellers also star. Dermott Downs directed the episode written by Keto Shimizu & Chris Fedak. Link: https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/legends_of_tomorrow/the-mystery-surrounding-rip-hunter-is-revealed-in-new-a147939 NEW LEGENDS OF TOMORROW EPS WILL STAR A WHOLE DIFFERENT RIP HUNTER (Date: 10 Jan 2017) The back half of season two kicks off on Tuesday, January 24 after the show's winter hiatus. That batch of episodes starts with an episode titled “Raiders of the Lost Art,” which guest stars a young George Lucas (or rather an actor named Matt Angel playing a young Lucas) and features the return of Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill). But Rip won't return the same as we previously knew him. Marc Guggenheim talked about the upcoming episodes and how the Spear of Destiny will impact the show. “The second half of the season is really paying off the Legion of Doom and what we now know is the MacGuffin of Season 2, the Spear of Destiny,” said Guggenheim. “Changing time is like painting with the biggest paintbrush possible; using the Spear of Destiny is like using a very, very fine-point technical pen.” Link: http://www.cbr.com/new-legends-of-tomorrow-eps-will-star-a-whole-different-rip-hunter/   The Girl Of Steel Visits Another World In Synopsis For Kevin Smith's Episode Of SUPERGIRL (Date: 05 Jan 2017) KEVIN SMITH DIRECTS; ROULETTE RETURNS — Kara (Melissa Benoist) is moved by the story of a missing woman named Izzy (guest star Harley Quinn Smith) and decides to investigate despite Snapper Carr's (guest star Ian Gomez) order to leave it alone. Kara takes Mon-El (Chris Wood) with her to the last place Izzy was seen and the duo find themselves thrust through a portal to another planet, Slaver's Moon, where the downtrodden are sold as slaves. The leader of the trafficking ring is none other than Roulette (guest star Dichen Lachman). To make matters worse, Slaver's Moon has a red sun, which means Kara and Mon-El are stripped of their powers and stuck on the planet with no way home. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Alex (Chyler Leigh) blames herself for Kara's disappearance, fearing she's become too focused on her new relationship with Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) and too complacent in watching out for her sister. Kevin Smith directed the episode with story by Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Eric Carrasco & Jess Kardos. When a criminal named Plunder (guest star Stephen Huszar) shows up in Central City, Barry recalls the villain's presence in his vision of the future and fears that if he catches Plunder, it will cement Iris' fate. Confused about Barry's hesitation to stop Plunder, Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) decides to step in as Kid Flash. Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) offers Julian (Tom Felton) a job. Millicent Shelton directed the episode written by Grainne Godfree & David Kob. According to executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, the two-part story will have lasting ramifications on both shows. According to Kreisberg. “When we get to the musical episodes, both Barry and Kara will find themselves at pivotal crossroads on their respective series, and the experience of going through the musical will have a great impact on both series moving forward.” Executive producer Greg Berlanti confirmed the villain will indeed be the Music Meister, who can control people through song. What's more, the musical crossover will feature original songs and could include characters from any Earth or timeline in the “Arrow”-verse. No date has been announced for “The Flash”/”Supergirl” crossover. Link: http://www.cbr.com/supergirl-flash-musical-will-have-great-impact-on-both-shows/   DC COMICS' SOLOVAR ARRIVES IN FLASH'S TWO-PART GORILLA CITY STORY (Date: 09 Jan 2017) “The Flash” is taking a trip to Gorilla City in episodes 13 and 14 of season three. The series will also introduce a new telepathic gorilla straight from the comics, Solovar. Keith David will provide the voice of Solovar in the Gorilla Grodd-centric two-parter. David is a film and television veteran with a career spanning decades. Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg announced the return of Grodd and Gorilla City during a presentation at the TCAs. Kreisberg also revealed that the two-parter will span multiple Earths. “One of the episodes will take place in Gorilla City [on Earth-2], and one of them will take place on Earth-1.” In the comics, Solovar — a psychic gorilla like Grodd — is the leader of Gorilla City. Under his rule, Gorilla City became a technological wonder. Solovar's involvement in “The Flash's” Grodd/Gorilla City two-parter makes sense considering that Solovar is Grodd's main rival (other than the Scarlet Speedster) in the comics. Link: http://www.cbr.com/dc-comics-solovar-arrives-in-flashs-two-part-gorilla-city-story/   BLACK FLASH TO RETURN ON ‘MULTIPLE' ARROWVERSE SERIES (Date: 08 Jan 2017) As expected, “The Flash” viewers haven't seen the last of Hunter “Zoom” Zolomon. However, when the character returns, it may not only be on that CW drama — and he may not be portrayed by Teddy Sears. Transformed by time wraiths into Black Flash and then pulled into the Speed Force in “The Flash's” Season Two finale, the villain will indeed race back into the Arrowverse.“I will say that you might be seeing him on multiple shows,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour. He didn't say which shows those are, or when fans can expect Black Flash's return. “[Black Flash] is a classic character. We have storylines on multiple shows that fit having him around,” he said. “There's something so scary about him, something even scarier than when he was just the man, because now it's now he is the Grim Reaper, he is the devil. How do you stop the devil? So it presents an interesting challenge for the heroes of the respective shows in which he appears.” Link: http://www.cbr.com/black-flash-to-return-on-multiple-arrowverse-series/    ‘Constantine' Back As Animated Series For CW Seed With Greg Berlanti Producing (Date: 08 Jan 2017) Constantine, which had a one-season run on NBC, will be back as an animated series for CW Seed. Five to six 10-minute episodes have been ordered. Matt Ryan, who starred in the live-action DC series, will voice the title character. Link: http://deadline.com/2017/01/constantine-back-animated-series-cw-seed-greg-berlanti-producing-matt-ryan-1201880788/   SUPERGIRL CASTS PETER GADIOT AS MISTER MXYZPTLK (Date: 07 Jan 2017) A new photo from the set of the CW drama reveals that actor Peter Gadiot, who played Cyrus on ABC's short-lived “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland,” has been cast as the classic Superman foe. However, we can see that the impish villain won't look anything like he does in the DC Comics source material, where he's traditionally depicted as an older, diminutive character. Created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Ira Yarborough for 1944's “Superman” #30, Mister Mxyzptlk is a mischievous imp from the fifth dimension who delights in tormenting the Man of Steel. Link: http://www.cbr.com/supergirl-casts-peter-gadiot-as-mister-mxyzptlk/    THE CW HAS ‘NO PLANS' FOR A SUPERMAN SERIES (Date: 08 Jan 2017) “Tyler did a great job,” The CW President Mark Pedowitz said. “There's no plan to do a series. There are no plans at the moment for him to return [to ‘Supergirl']. If they wish to have him return, we'd love to have him.” Link: http://www.cbr.com/the-cw-has-no-plans-for-a-superman-series/   THE FLASH Will Weave Kid Flash, Killer Frost And Gypsy Story Arcs Into Remaining Season 3 Episodes (Date: 07 Jan 2017) Armed with that knowledge Barry and his allies will be frantically searching for ways to prepare for an inevitable second round with the God of Speed. As for the rest of Team Flash, the co-showrunner adds that Gypsy (played by the recently cast Jessica Camacho of Sleepy Hollow) will be playing an important adversarial role in Cisco's budding superhero career, Caitlin will continue to wrestle with her Killer Frost alter ego and Wally West will continue to fly off the handle and cause trouble as Kid Flash. Some things in life may seem like just "A Matter of Trust", but that doesn't make them any less important. Oliver is having a hard time putting enough trust in his team to go out and get some things done out in the field. They don't like that. So Wild Dog and Evelyn Sharp go do some snooping, but end up creating a super strong bad guy. That makes our hero pretty mad, but he's going to have to show a little trust because he can't do it alone. Jay and Josh glance at each other suspiciously, wondering who they can trust on this week's episode of Green Justice: An Arrow Podcast. Listen in and justice will be served...to your MP3 player!

How would you train "The Recruits"? If you're Oliver, you use some of your Bratva training to teach them to work together while beating them up. The new potential members, Wild Dog, Curtis, and Evelyn Sharp are none too thrilled by this method and may not be willing to stick around. That's not good for Oliver, since Tobias Church is still out there making trouble and buying weapons from potential allies, and Ragman makes his debut as a scary attacker with some mystical powers. CURRENT EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS & POP CULTURE REFERENCES   Article: http://comicbook.com/2016/10/05/arrow-easter-eggs-and-dc-comics-references-in-legacy (comicbook.com)   Captain Pike -  Is that a Star Trek reference? We really can't decide. Either way, per his nametag, that police captain talking to Thea in the opening scene appears to be "Captain Pike," the captain of the USS Enterprise immediately prior to James T. Kirk. Lonnie Machin - A recurring villain from season four of Arrow, Lonnie Machin (the first baddie Oliver fights in season five) is better known to DC Comics fans as the antihero Anarky. Wild Dog - the first new member of  Team Arrow version 2.0 was introduced to the audience, in the form of Wild Dog, a hockey mask-wearing, gun-toting vigilante who was inspired by -- and then shot in the kneecap by -- Green Arrow. The character first appeared in Wild Dog #1 in 1987, making him one of the first new superheroes created following Crisis on Infinite Earths. Created by Road to Perdition writer Max Allan Collins, "his super power is guns." Konstantin Kovar - Konstantin Kovar is the father of Leonid Kovar, better known as Red Star.  In the comics, Konstantin originally wasn't a villain, but a relatively benign figure: an archaeologist who unearthed a nasty bit of business that gave his son powers. But Red Star himself, a loyal communist in the Soviet era, was occasionally a problem for the other heroes before he turned his life around.  Eventually, he would become a bad guy in service of the Soviet Union -- something that might make him an interesting figure going forward in case Anatoly Knyazev's comic book destiny of becoming the cybernetically-enhanced "KGBeast" is to become part of Arrow's story. Tobias Church - Church's nickname is apparently Charon, the ferryman of Hades from Greek mythology. There is a Charon in DC Comics, although he shares basically nothing in common with this version. This is something that will be repeated again in the episode: choosing a historical/mythological meaning instead of a contemporary/comics one. Vigilante - "Mr. Ski Goggles," as Felicity calls him, is actually Vigilante, a DC Comics antihero created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.  Perez provided the police sketch seen on Felicity's computer screen.  Created during Marv Wolfman's time on the New Teen Titans, Vigilante in the comics is a former New York district attorney who's set on the path of justice after hsi family is killed by the mob. The CW describes him similarly: Chase is "Star City's new district attorney and an ally of Mayor Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), who aims to clean up the streets through the legal system." Hub City and Bludhaven - According to Detective Malone, before he made his way to Star City, apparently he haunted Hub City -- the home of The Question -- and Bludhaven, the home of Nightwing. Ross Paints - Is that a little bit of free advertising for comic book artist and painter Alex Ross on the side of the truck Tobias Church and his goons are driving to their crime spree? Bertinelli - Whoever the head of the Bertinelli crime family is now that Helena has killed her father, he makes an appearance here -- only to be immediately killed by Tobias Church's men.     ARROW NEWS:   Arrow Showrunner breaks down all those new S5 characters (Date: 05 Oct 2016) Executive producer and showrunner Wendy Mericle gave an in-depth look into some of season 5's new characters in an interview with CBR.com. Wild Dog was created by Max Allan Collins, who stated that Wild Dog's “super power is guns.” Wild Dog is star athlete Jack Wheeler, who had to become a mechanic after an injury. When asked about Prometheus, Stephen said, “ Prometheus is a villain that is a byproduct of Oliver Queen being Green Arrow. That's something that you get to do once you're five years into a show. In a lot of ways, I think the most success that we've had with a villain, in my mind, was with Manu Bennett as Deathstroke. One of the reasons is because we got to tell a really personal story. We got to tell the story, sort of the dueling time of their time on the island and then their time in the Starling City at the time. Because Prometheus is a villain of Oliver's creation, so to speak, I feel like it will bring in that personal element as well.” Link:http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/10/05/arrow-stephen-amell-talks-legacy-russia-and-why-prometheus-is-the-right-villain-for-season-5   Spartan's new helmet and a Diggle/Oliver-centric episode of Arrow is coming (Date: 02 Oct 2016) Bleeding Cool - Picture of Diggle in his new helmet. Sara one-on-one with Pilgrim; +Mick steps in w/his gun Ends with usual team fight; Pilgrim surprised by young Rip w/knife Fun cgi with Pilgrim hit from all sides Time Travel: Share your thoughts Rip - kidnap younger selves to save them from Pilgrim, but... If younger selves are left out of timeline too long, people will forget about them, and… They really shouldn't interact with younger selves because of paradox Rip says this about Stein wanting to hold his baby-self, but Stein talked to Stein in the 1970s What are the rules? Amnesia pills are optional Palmer's injuries Rip Hunter His plan actually works! His real name is Michael; he was taken by Time Masters when he was an orphan on the streets trying to survive Offers self to Pilgrim. Without him, there is no team. Stein tries to remind all about how dangerous it is to remove a Time Master from the timeline, something Rip told him at the start of show Rate The Captain on a scale of 1 (Captain Crunch) to 10 (Captain Picard) Vandal Savage Not in episode! Mentioned at end because they remember their mission The Atom - Ray Palmer “Come with me if you want to live” - has always wanted to say that Existential crisis - “Could I be dead and not know it?” 2007 self gets beat up, bruises show up on present Ray Asks Kendra to marry him. Then doubt drama. Then a “Yes.” White Canary - Sara Lance Fights Pilgrim Spares with Kendra - tries to get Kendra to tell Ray the truth 2007 self - take daughter to work day with Dad Younger self is not a ninja Hawkgirl - Kendra Saunders Because of reincarnation powers, can't be killed by Pilgrim (so Pilgrim can't go back to Ancient Egypt before meteor hit? Of course, if she did, then there would be no show) Relationship drama with Ray (snore), but agrees to marry Ray Captain Cold - Leonard Snart 1972, Central City - Baby Snart is adorable, but a handful Keeps needling Rip because they don't know about Rip's past Heatwave - Mick Rory Younger self, 1990, Central City, is Pilgrim's first target Played with fire and killed family; didn't wake them, ran instead Younger self tells Mick he sounds like their father Present Mick tells younger Mick that he was angry at him for something not in his control and tells him to be better than present Mick Firestorm - Professor Martin Stein 1950 - born in back of car Surprised his father just gave him to strangers Ignores the rules and gives Jefferson a chance to meet his father Firestorm - Jefferson Jackson Born in 1993 in Central City Father died serving country; Jax never met father Has a conversation in hospital; father says he is proud of his son Jax doesn't stop father Pilgrim kidnaps father; after saved, Jax talks to father; tries to warn father Did he change things? Rip does say that maybe time wants Jax to be with father Waverider/Gideon Helps track Pilgrim When loses track of Pilgrim, Rip forms abduction plan The Pilgrim Cool Matrix-like powers Has authority to kill anyone in order to save the timeline Kidnaps team's loved ones in order to get team to give themselves up Has only one shot to kill them Time Masters Council Not the sort of folks you want to hang around the watercooler with Mary Xavier (Rip Hunter's “Mother”) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0408309/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t13 The Highlander's (Connor's) First Wife in 1986 film Star War's Fighter Pilot Bridget Jones' Diary Alum Captain Lance In his golden age   EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS:   Season 1 Episode 12 “Last Refuge” (Date: 22 Apr 2016) Article:http://comicbook.com/dc/2016/04/22/dcs-legends-of-tomorrow-things-you-might-have-missed-in-last-ref/1 Obvious Ones: Cities mentioned - Star City, Central City, Hub City, Ivy Town; Appearances by Quentin Lance (Sara's father), Lisa Snart/Golden Glider (Leonard's sister, and Anna Loring (Ray's fiancee. On Arrow, Anna was an attorney who worked for Oliver Queen's mother, but in the comics, Jean Loring was Ray Palmer's wife prior to her killing another superhero's wife) Disappearing from History: The visual effects used to represent the man executed by the Time Masters at the start of the episode are the same ones used in last year's finale for The Flash, when Eddie Thawne committed suicide in order to kill his descendant, Eobard/The Reverse Flash “Come with me if you want to live”: Line is from The Terminator. Booster Gold once made a similar remark during his time-travel adventures written by Legends executive producers Geoff Johns Marty McFly: Younger Rory is wearing a red vest/jean jacket outfit reminiscent of Marty McFly's Back to the Future outfit. Arrow bits: “If he ever lost me…” young Sara says of her father. Date of Ray's attack is December 19, 2014, and Arrow was on hiatus at that time Fruit Brute: Fruit Brute is one of the “monster” cereals like Count Chocula and Frankenberry. The fact that Rip has a collection of vintage cereals makes total sense because in the Booster Gold comics, we were told once that Rip has a fridge full of vintage Coca Cola Ma Hunkel: Ma Hunkel's Red Tornado is seen in Rip's time lab Rip Hunter's Mother: In the comics, we never learn the name of Rip's mother, so as to not lock his father, Booster Gold, into a future relationship Michael?: Rip Hunter's father in the comics is Michael Jon Carter, aka Booster Gold, so the name “Michael” might be a nod to his comic book parentage.   ARROW NEWS:   Where Team Arrow Stands when Season 5 Begins  (Date: 16 Aug 2016) IGN: Executive producers Wendy Mericle & Marc Guggenheim preview what's ahead: *Season 5 deals with legacy, it deals with the past. The challenge for Oliver this year is how do you evolve and move forward when the past keeps grabbing at you, trying to pull you back. Oliver: building team with Felicity, Curtis (who is going to become Mr. Terrific), and newcomers Evelyn Sharp and Wild Dog while trying to be mayor. Tries to optimistic, but forces will try to pull him into the darkness. Relationship with Felicity should be closer to what it was during season 1.                         * Diggle: He is to have his own story in the army trying to get his morality back.                      * Thea: Going to be Oliver's chief of staff and is good at it. We've also established over the four seasons that we can do flashback stories that don't involve the island narrative” * "We still want to make that part of our storytelling, because we do like them. We like when those non-island flashbacks sort of illuminate what's going on in the present day," Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/08/11/silly-rabbit-of-course-the-arrow-flashbacks-will-never-end/ Can it really be Arrow with a Flashback/Flashforward? ~SP Daredevil and Game Of Thrones series name drop by showrunner Wendy Mericle ~SP Arrow meets Legends meets Flash meets Supergirl: A Crossover Supercut! (Date: 16 Aug 2016) *TV Line presents a montage of meet-ups between the characters of Arrow, The Flash, Legends, and Supergirl. (Date: 14 Aug 2016) * Colin Donnell did an interview with TV Line * “I can't tell you how many people I've talked to about the possibility and how it could possibly happen. It's not out of the realm of possibility.” * Neil comment: I hate to bring this up… but does anybody still care? That was Season 1?! I mean I like the guy but I think we've moved on? Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/08/14/tommy-merlyn-could-possibly-return-on-arrow-due-to-flashpoint/ If John Barrowman ever has to leave the series I could see them brining Tommy back. But I doubt that will happen through season 7 (Stephen Amell is on contract through season 7, right? ~SP No Immediate Plans for Roy to Return (Date: 17 Aug 2016) * This follows up on a news article from prior weeks where Colton Haynes was spotted on the set of Arrow, which kick started speculation that he was returning to the series * In a TVLine interview Wendy Mericle stated that Colton Haynes was just visiting the set and was not scheduled to appear * Colton is busy filming Scream Queens Link:http://www.comicbookresources.com/article/sorry-arrow-fans-colton-haynes-is-not-returning-yet Colton, you are always welcome back to Arrow from the fans on Starling Tribune. ~SP   GENERAL DC TV NEWS   Legends: Legends of Tomorrow Season 2: Arthur Darvill and Maisie Richardson-Sellers Interview  (Date: 16 Aug 2016) * (Showbiz Junkies). Arthur Darvill (Rip Hunter) and Maisie Richardson-Sellers (Vixen/Amaya Jiwe) discuss season two. Both promise a little conflict in the team because everyone has a similar goal, but they have their own way of doing things and that there will be good fights. Link:http://www.showbizjunkies.com/tv/interviews/legends-of-tomorrow-arthur-darvill-maisie-richardson-sellers-interview/ I'd love to see Arthur Darvil rate Captain Rip Hunter each episode on a scale of 1-10. ~SP Opinion: How the CW's DC universe became one of TV's most inclusive (Date:16 Aug 2016) *Not really news, but is a good look at how Greg Berlanti's DC comic book shows for the CW are building a universe populated with characters who have been casts as African-American even though the characters are white in the comics (Iris West, Jimmy Olson) and who are LGBT (Sara, Nyssa, Curtis) Link:http://www.denofgeek.com/uk/tv/supergirl/43010/how-the-cws-dc-universe-became-one-of-tvs-most-inclusive Legends: Legends of Tomorrow Season 2: EP Subtly confirms Matt Ryan's John Constantine cameo (Date: 15 Aug 2016) * Movie News Guide: Legends executive producer Phil Klemmer subtly confirmed Matt Ryan's appearance in a recent interview, telling Zap2it, “If this show goes as many seasons as I hope it does, it would be a crime for him not to appear in our universe.” A photo on Marc Guggenheim's twitter shows a table read with an actor's face blurred out. Link: http://www.movienewsguide.com/legends-tomorrow-john-constantine/263618 ...BUT does this article from a couple days before contradict it with a quote from Greg Berlanti? LINK:http://www.comicbookresources.com/article/the-cw-has-no-plans-for-constantine-at-this-time * The takeaway is that I guess they're doing a pretty good job keeping us guessing at this point Legends: Guggenheim tweets pic of Samurai ATOM suit (Date: 18 Aug 2016) * Ray is riding a horse in the ATOM suit with a samurai helmet * Guggenheim's tweet was “Legends of Tomorrow: This show is insane...” Link:http://www.comicbookresources.com/article/legends-of-tomorrows-atom-dons-new-samurai-style-armor-in-new-photo Legends: Lance Henricksen cast as Obsidian  (Date: 11 Aug 2016) * Late news out of the TCAs that week that didn't make it into our news rundown * Henriksen joins the ranks of the Justice Society of America, which already includes Patrick J. Adams as Hourman, Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Vixen, Matthew MacCaull as Commander Steel and Sarah Grey as Star Girl. * The son of the Golden Age Green Lantern, Obsidian was introduced in 1983's "All-Star Squadron" #25, and joined a modern incarnation of the Justice Society in 2007. He can merge with his own shadow, allowing him to fly and pass through solid objects, and possess the shadows of others. * Henriksen's lengthy list of film and television credits is dotted with memorable sci-fi and horror roles, from "The Terminator" and the "Alien" franchise to "Near Dark" and "Millennium." Link:http://www.comicbookresources.com/article/legends-of-tomorrow-casts-lance-henriksen-as-obsidian Flash: Grant Gustin spills the beans on a little Easter Egg  (Date: 18 Aug 2016) * Grant Gustin admits that the cast and crew have snuck a rubber duckie into every scene in the police station… because why not. (Date: 11 Aug 2016) * Two part episode with the return of Grodd Confirmed (late news out of the TCAs last week) * At the end of his S02 episode, Grodd was transported to Earth-2 and abandoned in Gorilla City, a setting from the DC Comics Universe. * Unless Grodd somehow finds his way back to Earth-1 and finds its version of Gorilla City, it seems likely that the two-episode mini-arc will take place on Earth-2 Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/08/11/gorilla-grodd-returns-in-the-flash-season-3/ Flash: Producer explains how S03 Dark Speedster is ‘not at all' like the dark speedster villains from S01 and S02 who wanted to steal Barry's Speed (Date: 17 Aug 2016) * Todd Helbing (Executive Producer) gave an interview to IGN * “If you have another speedster, like Zoom, or Reverse Flash, you need somebody on an equal level to provide that threat” * “Savitar is more of a psychological villain in a weird way” * “Everything about this guy is different. I can't go into super detail, but he's not like Zoom or Reverse Flash” Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/08/18/the-flash-executive-producer-explains-how-savitar-is-different-f/ Supergirl: Kevin Smith says something and the media covers it (hehe) (Date: 18 Aug 2016) * Actually, there's a cool linkage to the old superman script titles “Superman Lives” he wrote * Kevin Smith announced that the title of the Supergirl episode he's directing is “Supergirl Lives” thanks to Andy Kriesberg * Actually a pretty cool quote from Kevin Smith in the article... Link:http://www.comicbookmovie.com/supergirl/kevin-smith-ecstatically-reveals-the-title-of-the-supergirl-season-2-a144591 Supergirl: Discussion on whether the Legion of Superheroes will join the DC TV Universe (Date: 13 Aug 2016) * We've seen Legion flight rings in both Flash (Speed Force Flashbacks) and Supergirl (in the Fortress of Solitude) * Mon-El is linked with the Legion of Superheroes, so there's a natural linkage * Other Supergirl characters have ties * long discussion article Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/08/14/is-the-legion-of-super-heroes-coming-to-the-cws-dc-tv-universe-/ Supergirl: Project Cadmus set to be S02 “Big Bad”  (Date: 12 Aug 2016) * Exec Producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed that Project Cadmus is the "big bad" of at least the first half of the season * "It's dedicated to eradicating alien life on Earth. They're fanatics. They're true believers," * in the comics and Young Justice, Project Cadmus has taken an interest in Kryptonians before as the creators of Superboy, a partial-clone of Superman Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/08/12/supergirl-season-2-new-details-on-project-cadmus-revealed/   GREEN ARROW COMICS & TOY NEWS   New Form Factor from #Funko: Pint Size Heroes! As the team mourns Laurel's death and tries to determine their next move against Darhk, there is a sighting of the Black Canary stopping an illegal weapons exchange. Oliver discovers that Laurel's sonic device is missing from her belongings from the hospital. The imposter turns out to be a H.I.V.E. prisoner named Evelyn Sharp whom Oliver left behind after he saved his team when they were kidnapped by Darhk, believing that she was with Darhk voluntarily. Captain Lance looks for a way to resurrect Laurel, even soliciting Nyssa al Ghul for help. Diggle, angry at being betrayed by Andy, goes after Darhk's wife, Ruvé Adams, but Oliver intervenes to prevent him from doing something he would regret. As a result, Ruvé uses her mayoral authority to issue arrest warrants for all vigilantes. Sharp goes after Ruvé publicly, but Oliver is able to talk her out of killing the Mayor. At Laurel's funeral, Oliver reveals Laurel as the Black Canary to preserve her image with the city. Afterwards, Oliver vows to kill Darhk. In flashbacks, Oliver and Laurel struggle to come to terms with Tommy Merlyn's death. In the end, Oliver leaves Laurel to cope on her own, and returns to the island of Lian Yu.
