I moved to Octopus recently and had been putting it off for ages,  but I kicked myself for not doing it sooner, as it’s literally a 5 minute job to give them your details.   Click here: https://share.octopus.energy/free-puma-452   On today’s podcast: Norway: 9 Out of 10 Cars Have A Plug Socket Mazda MX-30 Confirmed for U.S. with EV Tesla Giga Berlin Construction Is Nearly Complete Tesla unveils new map of upcoming Supercharger stations Revealed: UK’s top ranking electric vehicle networks Smart To Introduce Electric eSUV Demand for battery swap to boom over coming 5 years     Show #954   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Wednesday 6th January. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   NORWAY: 9 OUT OF 10 CARS HAVE A PLUG SOCKET "The numbers for the Norwegian car for 2020 is out. The share of pure electric cars (BEVs) has raised from 42.4 % in 2019 to 54.3 % in 2020. For the first year over half of all new cars sold are pure electric. The share of plug-in hybrids (PHEV) was 20.4 %. In other words, 3 of 4 car sold in 2020 has a charging socket." writes Jan for eMobilityNorway.com: "The four most sold car model was electric.  Audi e-tron with 9 227 car (6.5 % market share). Tesla Model 3 with 7 770 cars (5.5 % market share). Volkswagen ID.3 with 7 754 cars (5.5 % market share). Nissan Leaf with 5 221 cars (3.7 % market share). For December the numbers were even better.  66.7 % market share for BEVs and 20.4 % for PHEVs. This gives a market share of 87.1 % for cars with a charging socket."   Autoblog on why Norway is not a typical market: "Seeking to become the first nation to end the sale of petrol and diesel cars by 2025, oil-producing Norway exempts fully electric vehicles from taxes imposed on those relying on fossil fuels. The policy has turned the country's car market into a laboratory for automakers seeking a path to a future without internal combustion engines, vaulting new brands and models to the top of bestseller lists in recent years. While the sale of BEVs had broken the 50%-mark in individual months, 2020 was the first time that fully electric cars outsold the combined volume of models containing internal combustion engines for a year as a whole."   And Automotive News Europe looked to the future: "Tesla's Model Y SUV is set to reach the Norwegian market this year, as are the first electric SUVs from Ford, BMW and Volkswagen. By contrast, cars with diesel-only engines have tumbled from a peak of 76 percent of the overall Norwegian market in 2011 to just 8.6 percent last year. While the EV market share will keep rising, there is uncertainty around how many vehicles automakers will allocate to Norway as European demand is increasing, said Harald Frigstad, CEO at Norwegian car importer Bertel O. Steen."   https://www.emobilitynorway.com/post/54-3-of-all-new-cars-in-norway-last-year-was-pure-electric   https://www.autoblog.com/2021/01/05/norway-ev-electric-car-sales-market-share/   https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/norways-ev-sales-rise-record-54-market-share   MAZDA MX-30 CONFIRMED FOR U.S. WITH EV "Mazda's quirky foray into the electric-vehicle market, the MX-30, will eventually come to the U.S. A Mazda spokesperson confirmed to C/D that the company will offer the MX-30 in America with two drivetrains: either solely with an electric motor and a battery pack or with a plug-in-hybrid setup using a rotary gasoline engine." says Car & Driver: " In global markets, the EV version has a 144-horsepower electric motor powering the front wheels and is offered with a small 35.5-kWh battery pack that provides a short 124-mile driving range on the WLTP cycle. We don't know the specs for the plug-in hybrid, but we expect it to be powered primarily by the electric motor. Similar to models such as the BMW i3 and Chevy Volt, the gasoline engine will serve mostly as a range-extender that kicks in to charge the battery pack—only in the MX-30's case, that engine will use an unconventional rotary design."   https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a35130726/mazda-mx-30-confirmed-usa/   TESLA GIGA BERLIN CONSTRUCTION IS NEARLY COMPLETE "The construction of the outer shell of Giga Berlin seems to be nearing completion, and the factory is almost ready for the interior work. Despite the temporary delays in obtaining final environmental permits, prior permits allow Tesla to carry out all the necessary work and equipment installation in the Paint Shop." according to TEsmanian: "At the moment, thanks to drone recordings, it is clear that almost all buildings have walls and roofs, which are important for protection from bad weather and precipitation. The Drive Unit building has been fully completed from the outside, and internal construction work is underway to prepare the premises for equipment installation.  Today Musk shared a video of Giga Berlin covered in snow"   https://www.tesmanian.com/blogs/tesmanian-blog/tesla-giga-berlin-construction-shows-nearly-completion-as-ev-storm-is-coming-for-ice   TESLA UNVEILS NEW MAP OF UPCOMING SUPERCHARGER STATIONS "Tesla has released a new map of its upcoming Supercharger stations, adding many new planned stations to the network, removing others, and updating timelines in the process. Tesla has now released its 2021 update to the map – adding many new stations in the process, as well as removing some that were previously shown as planned, and updating the timelines for many more stations." reports electrek: "The automaker appears to have added many planned stations in key markets where its fleet is growing, like in California, the Northeast, in China, and in some European markets.  When clicking on the pin, Tesla gives a rough timeline of Q3 2021, and the automaker now says that those timelines are going to be updated on a quarterly basis. For some new market expansions, like in Eastern Europe for example, Tesla is not providing timelines, but new potential Supercharger locations are listed on the new map."   https://electrek.co/2021/01/05/tesla-unveils-map-upcoming-supercharger-stations-updates-timelines/   REVEALED: UK’S TOP RANKING ELECTRIC VEHICLE NETWORKS "Zap-Map, the UK’s leading electric vehicle (EV) mapping service, is today releasing its annual electric vehicle charging network satisfaction rankings. The results, based on a sample of more than 1,500 Zap-Map users, show that Tesla retains its top spot as the country’s most appreciated EV charging provider, the network receiving the highest ranking, one driver commenting that Tesla’s service is “the standard all networks should aspire to”.   Dr Ben Lane, co-founder and CTO at Zap-Map, said: “This year’s network rankings should focus the minds of all EV charging providers. As the survey demonstrates, EV drivers are very clear about the factors that make for a good charging experience, with reliability and ease of use being key priorities.”   https://www.nextgreencar.com/news/9066/revealed-uks-top-ranking-electric-vehicle-networks/   SMART TO INTRODUCE ELECTRIC ESUV "smart, known mostly for its tiny two-seat cars, is working on a new model, which will be an SUV We guess, however, that it will be a kinda small crossover/SUV. The new smart eSUV will be, of course, all-electric, based on Geely's new Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform and produced in China for the Chinese market, as well as for Europe." reports InsideEVs: "It's expected that this new model should be ready around 2022, but don't expect the eSUV in the U.S., as smart retired from North America. Currently, smart offers two BEVs: fortwo and forfour EQ models"   https://insideevs.com/news/464185/smart-esuv-electric/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=RSS-all-articles   DEMAND FOR BATTERY SWAP TO BOOM OVER COMING 5 YEARS "China's new energy vehicle battery swapping industry is expected to experience a boom in the next 5 years, but there remain obstacles such as high costs and a lack of standardization, according to insiders. BAIC BJEV-one of the first automakers in China to carry out large-scale investment and operation in the NEV battery swapping industry-had set up 225 stations in 19 cities in China and had 22,000 battery-swapping vehicles on the road as of November." according to China Daily: "Statistics show that the construction cost of a battery-swap station is around 3-10 million yuan ($460,000-$1.53 million). Calculated on the basis that each station will have a reserve of 20 batteries and each battery is valued 100,000 yuan, the cost of batteries for each station will reach 2 million yuan. And that's not counting land, labor and electricity costs. According to the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance, as of November 2020, China had 535 battery-swap stations."   http://epaper.chinadaily.com.cn/a/202101/04/WS5ff2575aa31099a234352f90.html       QUESTION OF THE WEEK EV tech is on a rip, but is the constant improvement around an EV a possible reason NOT to buy one? Jeffrey Mosher welcomes Dave Heisey back to the MBN studios to discuss another Crestcom module. For December they were discussing Peak Performing Leaders. Crestcom has a Performance Optimization model which looks at four key areas which leaders need to focus some time and attention. Those areas are: Identification of Purpose, Physical Health, Emotional Health, and Mindfulness. Leadership responsibilities subject managers to higher levels of stress, and more challenging mental activities than employees who work as individual contributors. Because of this, leaders generally require more energy, and need to have greater focus in order to be successful. Each of the four areas identified in Crestcom’s Performance Optimization model are opportunities for your leaders to better prepare themselves for the challenges of their positions.

'ON THE GROUND' FOR DECEMBER 6, 2019 From the Trump impeachment hearings to NATO's 70th anniversary, we speak to journalist Jon Jeter and activist Ajamu Baraka about the priorities and actions of elites that are destroying lives around the globe. And as the UN World Climate change conference is underway in Madrid, we hear from veterans who launched the environmental justice movement in the United States. With Jon Jeter, Ajamu Baraka, Roxane Byrd mother of Jamaal Byrd, April Goggans, Peggy Shepard of WE ACT for Environmental Justice, Beverly Wright of the Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, Former South Carolina State Rep. Harold Mitchel, Richard Moore and Michele Roberts of the Environmental Justice Health Alliance. Please remember 'On the Ground' for your year-end giving! Please click here or click on the Support-Donate tab on this website to subscribe for as little as $3 a month. We are so grateful for this small but growing amount of monthly crowdsource funding on Patreon. You can also give a one-time donation on PayPal. The show is made possible only by our volunteer energy, our resolve to keep the people's voices on the air, and by support from our listeners. In this new era of fake corporate news, we have to be and support our own media. Thank you! Post photo of Jamaal Byrd with children. Byrd, 33, died in custody of DC's Metropolitan Police Department on October 1, 2019. Nearly two months later, his mother said she had not been told how her son died.

Released at the 2011 IPCPR Tradeshow, Torano Vault gets its name from the vault in which the Torano blend book is kept. Originally called Liga A-008, this blend has a Colorado Shade-grown Habano wrapper from Nicaragua, an Ometepe-grown ligero binder, and a filler of Nicaraguan long leaf tobaccos. It comes in the following sizes: Robusto 5 x 52 Toro 6 x 50 Torpedo 6.1 x 52 What else have you been smokin' Dale? Pueblo Dominicano Toro - 6.5” x 50 - Dominican cigar from the La Aurora factory that Bob mentioned a couple weeks back, wrapped in a 5 yr old Habano varity wrapper that is Sun Grown and fermented to a dark reddish hue. A very smooth, balanced and complex smoke that I enjoyed thoroughly! Leather, cedar and light spice in a creamy med-full bodied smoke. Very “Dominican” as one might expect, yet with rich flavors and a nutty finish. To me it competes with the Leon G Pinar Del Rio Liga Cubana No. 5, Habano Sungrown Toro - 6” x 50 - From our friend Abe Flores, the Nicaraguan and Dominican filler blend in these cigars is magnificently rich and deep in flavor. Wrapped in a Sungrown Habano leaf that is oily, silky and refined in appearance. Full bodied with lots of spice (especially in the retrohale), coffee bean and grain flavors, the cigar is very savory. The long finish highlights cedar & walnut tones. Padilla 1948 Edicion Limitada 2010 Robusto - 5” x 50 - One of those cigars I really enjoy when I’m in the mood for cedar, oak and leather flavors. This cigar also has a buttery component. The Nicaraguan grown Corojo and Crillo blend is covered in a Corojo wrapper that is med brown in color and imparts a peppery tang. The cigar is earthy in character, a touch dry and exhibits excellent construction. Copious amounts of medium bodied yet very full flavored smoke with a short woody finish. What else have you been smokin' Bob? Gurkha Evil - Originally released in 2010, this cigar comes in 5 sizes including the Churchill that I smoked. With a Brazilian wrapper, Dominican binder and Nicaraguan filler, this is a smooth spicy operator in the Gurkha line. Punch London Club Maduro Perdomo Patriarch Antano Dark Corojo Pinar Del Rio Capa Oscuro What's My Band?- This week's unbanded, the NHC Surrogates Bone Crusher, was provided by Dan of NewHavanaCigars.com. Bob and Dale are joined by listener Derek Mathews who discusses how to repurpose a wine cooler into a 'wineador' for cigars. - Liz shares what else she has been smoking this week and asks another newbie question - this time about lighting cigars. The Cigar of the Week, the Arturo Fuente Special Selection, was provided by Duque Cigar Company in Indialantic, Florida. The cigar featured in the What's My Band segment of the show, the Man O' War Puro Authentico was provided by listener Camryn Freeze. Enter November's Silver Palio Cutter Contest by sending a photo of you or your friends enjoying a cigar to theshow@cigarmedia.tv. Cigar of the Week - Arturo Fuente Special Selection brought to us by Duque Cigars (http://www.duquecigars.com/, 410 5th Avenue Indialantic, FL) What else have you been smokin' Dale? (Oliva Studio Tabac) Nub Double Maduro - 4” x 60 - or the Nub Dub as it’s affectionately called..... Really well constructed except they left off about 2” of the cigar! Dark, toasted flavors, rich and wildly complex. Notes of red fruit, leather, vanilla and yes - Marzapan over an oaky base. Rocky Patel Decade Toro - 6.5” x 52 - More secret tobaccos! Rocky is proud enough to mention the dark maduro Sumatra wrapper, but the filler & binder in this cigar is hush-hush. However, this is one RP cigar I seek out occasionally due to the nice sweetness, dark coffee notes and great balance in a full bodied cigar. (Hoyo de Monterrey) Excalibur Cameroon Merlin - 5.25” x 50 - From what used to be called the Excalibur 1066 line, now we have the Excalibur Cameroon. A full bodied Honduran cigar with a Connecticut Broadleaf binder and a Cameroon wrapper over a filler blend from Honduras, Nicaragua and the DR. I really enjoyed how the mild sweetness of the binder enhanced the slight spiciness of the wrapper. Both balanced well with the leather & earthy core of the filler blend. What else have you been smokin' Bob? Jameson Black Label - original release; the Black Label is a rich, complex cigar. The medium-full bodied blend features a naturally fermented Brazilian maduro wrapper, Honduran binder, and filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic. This is a bold smoke that commands attention. Southbound Latitude by Jameson - Get the southern latitude attitude in a fine cigar, relaxing and smooth but full flavored. Latitude is the first release in the bundled SouthBound Series. A medium-bodied value smoke meant to be enjoyed every day. Latitude features Dominican fillers bound with a Criollo 98 leaf from the Dominican Republic and finished off with a broadleaf wrapper from Pennsylvania. Chinnock Cellars Terroir - A nice medium-bodied smoke that goes well with other things like wine, cheese and chocolate. However, the cigar does not stand out on its own and becomes a bit boring after awhile. Pueblo Dominicano Series II - The Series II is a very good cigar and comes at a reasonable price. Made from 100% Dominican tobaccos, it is rolled at the oldest cigar factory in the Dominican Republic, La Aurora. The Series II features a spicy four-year-old Dominican wrapper that perfectly compliments the complex blend of Dominican filler tobaccos. It is a medium-bodied cigar that has the exquisite flavor known to aficionados as that of a pure Dominican cigar, and even more impressively, it holds its own against the likes of more expensive puros such as OpusX and CAO Vision. What's My Band?- This week's unbanded, the Man O' War Puro Authentico was provided by listener Camryn Freeze. Palio Cutter Contest: The winner of the November Burl Palio cutter was Craig Rich. Cigar of the Week - The Xen by Nish Patel brought to us by Duque Cigars (http://www.duquecigars.com/, 410 5th Avenue Indialantic, FL) XEN is a box pressed cigar with an Ecuador Connecticut wrapper, Nicaragua binder and a “secret” filler. Sizes: Short Robusto: 4 x 54; Robusto: 5 x 50; Toro: 6 x 52; and Torpedo: 6 1/8 x 52. What else have you been smokin' Craig? Pedro Martin Gold - A typical Connecticut looking wrapper with a unique looking blend of tobacco viewed from the foot. Very different color ligero & seco. Deep spicy prelight but medium bodied, ‘soft’ flavored smoke. Unique orange-zest taste. A nice approachable, yet complex, blend for a mild strengthed cigar. What else have you been smokin' Dale? Pedro Martin Ruby Torpedo -Spicy, clean and bright! Not as much richness or depth as the Corojo What else have you been smokin' Bob? Pedro Martin Corojo 6x60 - Deliberate draw, full flavored cedar, leather with a touch of spice. Dry finish. This is a lot of cigar. Densely packed, great burn. The last third developes some strong nicotine flavors. Unfortunately, the cigar in this size becomes drier as you smoke it - to the point I had to just stop. Torano 1916 Cameroon - Smooth as a baby’s bottom and loaded with easygoing flavors of cedar, leather and spice. A delightfully light smoke with flavor. Chinnock Cellars Terroir - A nice medium bodied smoke that goes well with other things like wine, cheese and chocolate. However, the cigar does not stand out on its own and becomes a bit boring after awhile. What's My Band?- This week's unbanded, the Perdomo Patriarch Maduro Epicure, was suggested by listener Jeff Curtis. Bob: Very barnyard on the prelight aroma (I liked it); mottled wrapper. Loved the first rush of flavors and an easy draw. Great cedar and bitter chocolate flavors. Throughout, the cigar delivers lots of flavors very consistently. I am enjoying this cigar very much so I hope its an inexpensive one! Craig: Smells like Nicaragua; the pilon that’s just about ready to be sorted. Deep dark & woody. Lighting reveals a lot of pent up strength. It goes well with my Tanzanian Blackdog Coffee and almost overpowers my underworked palate. Coffee, cedar & BITTER cocoa dominate this enjoyable smoke. Reminiscent of a Pepin smoke but slightly more refined. Perhaps a Jamie Garcia offering or even a new Illusione Maduro. I like this full bodied cigar. J Fuego 777 Maduro - An incredible maduro with dark flavors and a smooth finish that will make you fall on your knees and beg for more. J Fuego 777 Gran Reserva Corojo No. 4 - Esencia Robusto - Another fine cigar from Esencia. I think the robusto brings out more of the spice than the other sizes but not a heavy spice, just a nice tickle on the tongue. Illuminati Shield Robusto - A powerful cigar (strongest in the line according to Jack Sanzeri, President). but with mostly smooth dark flavors and a touch of pepper. Oja Anniversary Maduro Figurado - A very special cigar with smooth flavors of dark bitter chocolate and espresso. Only available at the Little Havana Cigar Factory Store. What's My Band? - This week's unbanded, the Guillermo Leon Corona Gorda was provided by listener DJ Shalifoe. Palio Cutter Contest: The winner of the November Burl Palio cutter is Craig Rich. For December's contest, we are looking for photos of you and your friends enjoying cigars (all the better if they happen to be Esencias, but it will not affect your chances of winning). Send your entry to theshow@cigarmedia.tv. Please include your mailing address with your entry and type "Palio" on the subject line. Don't forget, you must re-enter the contest every month to be eligible to win. December's prize will be a silver Palio cutter. Do you have a suggestion for the unbanded cigar of the week? Every week Bob and Dale include an “unbandedcigar” segment in their show in which they smoke a cigar without any markings and give their honest opinions. Bob then opens a sealed envelope and discovers the cigar’s name and manufacturer. If you have suggestions for the "What's My Band?" segment, please send them to liz@cigarmedia.tv. Do you have a Cigar Review? If you call and leave a cigar review on the herfline and it is played on the show, you will receive a DogWatch Cigar Radio patch! You can reach the Herfline at 321-594-4373 - or cigar.radio on Skype. You can also send email to theshow@cigarmedia.tv. Music provided by the Figurados and The Surfonics.
