Core drilling just started on the boat-shaped ridge in eastern Turkey that some people have called Noah's Ark since a Turkish Army captain spotted it from the air in 1959. The Durupinar formation sits in the Tendurek Mountains near Mount Ararat, about 164 meters long — close to the 300-cubit length in Genesis. Modern geologists have treated it for decades as limestone and volcanic clay carved by erosion. David Fasold measured it in the 1980s, called it a fossilized deck, then later dismissed the ark theory himself. Now a Sivas Cumhuriyet University team, with Turkish government approval, has run the first real core drill into it. Andrew Jones says the biggest early finding is that the formation is soil, not a solid rock mass worn into a ship shape. Radar work has picked up right angles, possible tunnels, and voids a few meters down. Earlier soil tests found about three times more organic matter inside the outline than on the hillside next to it. The samples are headed to labs in Ankara. A full report is not expected until 2027. The fundraising side did not wait. Lauren Witzke, handling marketing for the Noah's Ark Scans effort, has already said university curricula will need to be rewritten and Darwinism dismantled — while an underground robot, adapted from a machine built to explore wombat burrows, is still collecting footage. That is the gap worth watching: a real dig at a formation science wrote off and a press line that already knows the ending. It was a stormy week politically in Ireland. It wasn't over an attempted terrorist attack like we had here in Israel this week. It wasn't over the rising cost of energy or immigration, like elsewhere in Europe. It was a soccer match against Israel. That was enough to dominate the country's headlines. How did Ireland become so focused on Israel, and so hostile to the Jewish state? Alan Shatter, a leading Jewish figure in the country and former justice and defense minister, says a pro-Palestine 'cult' has taken over the country's politics. The country has always had a checkered past with its Jews, he said. The Provisional IRA had deep ties with Palestinian terrorists, and their political movement Sinn Fein 'contaminated' Irish politics by putting the Palestinian cause front and center. That obsessive focus has spread from politics across Irish society, Shatter lamented, and now trade unions, teachers, artists, and athletes have significant pro-Palestinian movements. The angst over the soccer match against Israel a new "level of complete and utter absurdity," he said. Now, he said, many Jews are asking whether they have a future in the country in the face of daily abuse online and a toxic environment around Israel. "There's a deep problem here," Shatter said. Naza, a film by Israeli filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, features interviews with 24 members of elite intelligence units in the Israeli military describing the mechanics of carrying out remote, indiscriminate mass killing in Gaza. Since news spread of a 25-minute standing ovation for the film at the Venice Film Festival, it has provoked intense debate, with some Palestinians expressing criticism of the way that Israelis' confessions have made the genocide more “real” in the West than Palestinians' own testimony. Meanwhile, in Israel, the film has elicited disturbing incitement against the filmmakers (who currently remain abroad), and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has threatened to revoke the filmmakers' citizenship.What is the unique function of cinema focused on the perpetrators of genocide? Today's guest is Tony Klug, a Middle East analyst who has been a senior advisor on the Middle East to the Oxford Research Group and a consultant to the Palestine Strategy Group and the Israeli Strategic Forum. In this episode, Alon and Tony discuss the plausibility of a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the feasibility of such a resolution, the past negotiations between Israel, the Palestinians, and involved Arab states, and what can be done based on the current facts on the ground. He has written extensively about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since the early 1970s and was one of the first advocates of an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel in the wake of the 1967 war. His PhD thesis (1979) was on the Israeli occupation of the West Bank. For many years, he worked at Amnesty International, where he headed the international development program.

Khalil was born in a Palestinian refugee camp in Syria and fled the country at 18. He had a green card to be in the United States, and had become one of the most visible faces of the pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University, where he had been a graduate student and a negotiator between the protesters and the administration. In 2025, he was arrested by ICE and sent to a detention center in Louisiana. He spoke with Tonya Mosley about the events, the pro-Palestine movement, and his hopes for the future. On Thursday, the Israeli filmmakers of the new controversial documentary "NAZA" (Collateral Damage) held a screening in Tel Aviv for local journalists, including from The Times of Israel, though the directors themselves were not present. Fabian weighs in on the experience of watching the film and the lack of journalistic practices exhibited in it. But before his execution was carried out, the cruel Emperor Aurelian died, and Chariton was freed. He travelled to Jerusalem and took up the ascetical life in the Palestinian wilderness. Monks gathered around him, and in the course of his life he established three monastic communities in the Holy Land. He died in peace at a great age. According to the Prologue, the practice of tonsuring monks originated with St Chariton.

What happens when a political philosopher stops asking, "What would the perfect society look like?" and starts asking, "How did we get here?" Dr Raef Zreik takes a close look at the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the lens of political theory—and argues that one of the most important tasks of philosophy is self-clarification: figuring out exactly what we mean when we disagree, what assumptions we're making, and where our arguments actually lead. As a Palestinian citizen of Israel, Zreik describes himself as a kind of translator, trying to articulate Palestinian demands in language Jewish Israelis can understand—and Jewish fears in ways Palestinians can engage with. The conversation ranges from the meaning of citizenship and Palestinian political agency to organized crime in Palestinian society inside Israel, the relationship between history and political rights, and the devastating events in Gaza. It's a conversation about what happens when philosophy leaves the classroom and confronts a conflict in which both sides have their own history, fears, and claims to justice.
