Coming in at #17 is the Plasencia Alma del Fuego Concepcíon. First released in 2019, Alma del Fuego was the third installment of Plasencia's "Alma" series. In the case of Alma del Fuego, this translates to "Soul of Fire." The vitola name "Concepción" refers to a volcano on the island of Ometepe in Lake Nicaragua. The Alma del Fuego blend incorporates tobaccos from Ometepe into the filler. In addition to the Ometepe tobaccos in the filler, the blend to the Plasencia Alma del Fuego Concepcíon consists of 100% Nicaraguan tobaccos. The cigar is finished with a dark sun-grown wrapper grown in the Jalapa region. The Concepción size is a 6 x 54 Toro. As for production, the Plasencias ae producing the Alma de Fuego at their factory in in Estelí, Nicaragua. The Plasencia Alma del Fuego delivered notes of mocha, dried fruit, mineral, cream, and white pepper. For the most part ,the flavors delivered were in the medium to full range countered by medium strength. This is the second consecutive year, Plasencia Cigars has landed on the Countdown. It's also the second consecutive year the Alma del Fuego lands on the Countdown. Last year, the Candente size came in at the #20 slot. Meanwhile, Nicaragua continues to be a dominant country of origin for cigars making the 2021 list. A great discussion about Christian's adventure on the show The Selection as well as his history of extreme events and training. I've been a fan of this man for some time now ever since I saw him on the show. I had prepared a bunch of questions to help ease us along and get into the mindset of what it's like to walk the path of the warrior but in listening to his stories he just exemplifies it by the way he is in life. I am not a victim, I'm a fighter. I have completed over 100 races of marathon distance or farther, racing over volcanoes, across deserts, and through tropical jungles and infested swamps, all over the world. I've earned my 50-mile bib at World's Toughest Mudder on CBS, took a beating on American Ninja Warrior on NBC, and survived Hell as a finisher on THE SELECTION: Special Operations Experiment, on History Channel. I have successfully completed the Fuego Y Agua 100K Trail Ultramarathon in Nicaragua more times (3) than anyone else in the history of the race. I'll never be a one-trick pony. In my early years, I missed a lot of potentially great experiences because I thought I was “too cool” to do anything but beach sports. Transformational facilitator Gaia Ma pioneered the Tantric Way Process, a world renowned personal and spiritual development practice that helps to shatter programmed patterns of the body mind. A former stripper and exotic dancer, she is the co-founder of InanItah, an earth-based community on the island of Ometepe in Nicaragua, where she teaches permaculture and tantra. When she's not busy teaching techniques of ecstasy and liveness, catalyzing growth, or steering her community towards a more regenerative lifestyle, Gaia is running the Ometepe Development Fund, a nonprofit organization that supports programs for food security, economic development, and land preservation. As both a stripper and a sage, Gaia offers profound insights about how our connection to the earth informs our sexuality. She talks about getting in contact with our animal nature and becoming attuned to our authentic sexual selves, and discusses techniques that build sexual energy. She also shares a really hot sex story involving BDSM and skydiving - so do listen to the end!
Running around Central America isn't complete without a volcano hike, or twelve. This lake in a volcano on and island created by the eruption of a volcano is one of Nicaragua's coolest spots: Ometepe. Hidden in plain sight the hippies of the world have created a sanctuary of organic farms, chocolate factories and good natural vibes along beaches, volcanoes and howler monkeys.
The legendary Don Lino Africa has returned. Today we fire up a cigar long known as one of Nestor Miranda's favorites. The brand was born out of his love of travel to the African continent ands part of Miami Cigar & Company celebrating 30 years, the Africa sees the blend, boxes and and presentation return to its original form with the Don Lino Africa production being handled by Tabacalera AJ Fernandez. What do we think of the cigar that features a Habano 2000 wrapper from Ecuador, African Cameroon binder and Piloto Dominicano, Ometepe, Jalapa, and Esteli fillers. Tune in to The AshHoles and find out. We will also have the Victor Sinclair 55 Top 5 list and all the insanity you come to expect from The Ash Holes as we broadcast live on location from Studio 21 Podcast Cafe high above Two Guys Smoke Shop in Salem, New Hampshire on the United Podcast Network. Bienvenido a la isla del volcan. Welcome to Ometepe, an island housing a big, beautiful lava filled mountain, sitting right in the middle of Nicaragua Lake. Our two co-ed teams are serving here at an orphanage and plantain farm. If we aren't teaching kids English in the classrooms, we are digging holes in the fields. It's rewarding work — and not a bad place to stay when you are situated in a house next to the lake, with a volcano looming in the background. My guest Ashley and I discuss the last couple of weeks as we transition into Latin America, the Parent Vision Trip coming up soon, team changes, and how a constantly changing life abroad can become normal. Plus American History trivia at the end.

Paul Bergner and Tania Neubauer, N.D. join me at the Traditions in Western Herbalism Conference for a special live edition of HerbMentor Radio. Paul has been practicing natural medicine since 1973, is author of 7 books, and is founder of the North American Institute of Medical Herbalism. Dr. Neubauer is a naturopathic physician, was a medical coordinator at the Berkeley Free Clinic, has worked extensively with Natural Doctors International, and has studied with Karen Sanders, Michael Moore and Adam Seller. A “calling,” according to Paul, is something that “when you’re doing it, the universe conspires to make you succeed.” Paul and Tania, along with herbalist 7Song (Northeast School of Botanical Medicine), are leading a delegation to the island of Ometepe in Nicaragua. This trip is open to anyone, no matter what your herbal or language background. It is an amazing opportunity for those who want herbal clinical experience. Paul and Tania discuss this opportunity in great detail, however, this interview will be of interest to everyone, as Paul discusses what a calling is, and some tips for those who might be interested in being a clinical herbalist. It’s a fascinating look at the state of herbalism from someone how has been doing this for nearly 40 years. I wanted to get this interview out for 2 reasons… 1) To share what I learned from Paul about finding one’s calling and 2) to spread the word about this trip, which will help a lot of people get quality, natural medical help. To find out more about Paul, Tania and 7Song’s clinical training in Nicaragua, visit http://medherb.com/nicaragua.html
The Bainbridge Photography Club July 4th Exhibit will show 30 photos taken by 15 deaf children on Ometepe - the Bainbridge sister island in Nicaragua. In this podcast, Sue Barrington and Dale Spoor explain the background of the show. This is one of many projects initiated by Dale Spoor after learning that there were no government programs on Nicaragua for hearing-impaired children. Dale participated in the first delegation of the Bainbridge Ometepe Sister Islands Association (BOSIA) to Ometepe in 1988. Since then he has led a dozen trips and delegations over the years. Dale and his wife also facilitate Spanish classes at the Senior Center. In January of this year a group of 12 BOSIA delegates carried to the island 15 new simple digital cameras donated by members of the BI Photo Club. They met with the children one morning. With the assistance of a local sign language interpreter, they taught them how to use the cameras. They gave them simple instructions for taking photos: tell us your story, show us your friends, your family, your island and your lives. The children spent a week in their local communities taking photos. Members of the photo club have created an exhibition of 30 photos that will be shown in a number of venues here and in Nicaragua. The first exhibition will be at the Waterfront Park Community Center during the Fourth of July celebration as a part of the annual photography show there. Brenda Berry, a BI professional photographer who was a member of the delegation created a 6-minute video that captures the essence of the experience of working with the deaf children on Ometepe in the photography project. Cigar of the Week - Thunder by Nimish - Robusto The Rocky Patel Thunder is blended by Nimish Desai, Rocky’s cousin. He supervises all of the Central American manufacturing for Rocky, but has wanted to blend his own cigar for a long time. This year he finally came up with a blend that he wanted to put on the market and Rocky agreed. Name: Thunder by Nimish Company: Rocky Patel Premium Cigars Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano Binder: Nicaragua and Honduras Filler: Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rico Price: $5-6.00/stick Comes in: Box of 20 Three sizes: Robusto 4.5 X 54 Toro 6 X 52 Torpedo 6 ⅛ X 52 What else have you been smokin' Dale? Oliva Serie V Lancero - 7” x 38 - Nicaraguan tobaccos featuring a high priming Habano Sun Grown wrapper and Jalapa Valley ligero. A full bodied, smooth smoke with great spice balanced with dark chocolate and espresso flavors. Some dark fruit sweetness in the last 3rd and a long, rich finish. A solid “longhorn lounge” favorite for under $5! Macanudo 1968 Robusto - 5” x 50 - The first of what I like to call the “new style Mac’s”, the 1968 has been out 3 or 4 years now. It has a bold and aromatic expression previously lacking in the Macanudo line. The wrapper is Honduran San Augustin, the binder is Habano Connecticut and the filler is a mix of Dominican and Nicaraguan, with the Nica tobaccos coming from Esteli and Ometepe. The first (official) use of Ometepe tobacco by General Cigar, but they didn’t make a big deal out of it until the Upper Cut and others came out in the last 18 months. Medium bodied, but full flavored with coffee, spice and leather notes accented by roasted nuts. AB Prensado Corona Gorda - 5.6” x 46 - I’ve smoked this cigar several times now since we featured it on the show last year, and again this week, before CA announced it as their #1 cigar for 2011. Smooth, deep, rich roasted flavors from Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos. The wrapper is from the Trojas valley in southern Honduras and imparts some great leather and chocolate flavors. The filler is savory and has good spice. Lots of complexity, great balance and full in both body and flavor, medium in strength. What else have you been smokin' Bob? Gurkha Assassin Dagger - 3.78 x 60 - Brazilian Wrapper, Dominican Binder, and a Peruvian/Nicaraguan Filler. Comes in four other sizes: Robusto, Toro, Churchill, and Torpedo. Jesus Fuego 76 Robusto- 5 x 50 - A small batch production cigar, it uses a limited production stalk-cut Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, aged fillers from Nicaragua & Honduras and is held together with an aged triple fermented Nicaraguan binder. Erez Cigars White Label Natural Churchill - 7 ½ x 50 -Criollo 98 wrapper; Olor Dominicano binder; and a filler consisting of Cubano San Vicente, Olor Dominicano and Criollo 98 tobaccos. All of its tobacco was grown in the Dominican Republic by the Reyes Family, who has been in the business for over 150 years. Alec Bradley Tempus Maduro A fine smoke with great dark flavors and an earthy base that really makes this shine like a fine chocolate cake. The Cigar of the Week, The Vault Liga A-008 by Torano, was provided by Duque Cigar Company in Indialantic, Florida. The cigar featured in the What's My Band segment of the show, the NHC Surrogates Bone Crusher, was provided by Dan of NewHavanaCigars.com. The winner of November's Silver Palio Cutter Contest will be announced on next week's show. There is still time to send a photo of you or your friends enjoying a cigar to theshow@cigarmedia.tv to enter the contest. Cigar of the Week - The Vault Liga A-008 by Torano brought to us by Duque Cigars (http://www.duquecigars.com/, 410 5th Avenue Indialantic, FL). Released at the 2011 IPCPR Tradeshow, Torano Vault gets its name from the vault in which the Torano blend book is kept. Originally called Liga A-008, this blend has a Colorado Shade-grown Habano wrapper from Nicaragua, an Ometepe-grown ligero binder, and a filler of Nicaraguan long leaf tobaccos. It comes in the following sizes: Robusto 5 x 52 Toro 6 x 50 Torpedo 6.1 x 52 What else have you been smokin' Dale? Pueblo Dominicano Toro - 6.5” x 50 - Dominican cigar from the La Aurora factory that Bob mentioned a couple weeks back, wrapped in a 5 yr old Habano varity wrapper that is Sun Grown and fermented to a dark reddish hue. A very smooth, balanced and complex smoke that I enjoyed thoroughly! Leather, cedar and light spice in a creamy med-full bodied smoke. Very “Dominican” as one might expect, yet with rich flavors and a nutty finish. To me it competes with the Leon G Pinar Del Rio Liga Cubana No. 5, Habano Sungrown Toro - 6” x 50 - From our friend Abe Flores, the Nicaraguan and Dominican filler blend in these cigars is magnificently rich and deep in flavor. Wrapped in a Sungrown Habano leaf that is oily, silky and refined in appearance. Full bodied with lots of spice (especially in the retrohale), coffee bean and grain flavors, the cigar is very savory. The long finish highlights cedar & walnut tones. Padilla 1948 Edicion Limitada 2010 Robusto - 5” x 50 - One of those cigars I really enjoy when I’m in the mood for cedar, oak and leather flavors. This cigar also has a buttery component. The Nicaraguan grown Corojo and Crillo blend is covered in a Corojo wrapper that is med brown in color and imparts a peppery tang. The cigar is earthy in character, a touch dry and exhibits excellent construction. Copious amounts of medium bodied yet very full flavored smoke with a short woody finish. What else have you been smokin' Bob? Gurkha Evil - Originally released in 2010, this cigar comes in 5 sizes including the Churchill that I smoked. With a Brazilian wrapper, Dominican binder and Nicaraguan filler, this is a smooth spicy operator in the Gurkha line. Punch London Club Maduro Perdomo Patriarch Antano Dark Corojo Pinar Del Rio Capa Oscuro What's My Band?- This week's unbanded, the NHC Surrogates Bone Crusher, was provided by Dan of NewHavanaCigars.com. The history of General Cigar began in 1848 when Ferdinand Cullman immigrated to the US from Germany. His grandson made one of the greatest contributions to the cigar world: the Connecticut Shade wrapper. In 1960, Cullman Brothers bought General Cigar Company and became the largest manufacturer and marketer of premium cigars with impressive brands. In 1997, General Cigar acquired Villazon, the maker of such iconic brands as Punch, Hoyo de Monterrey, and Excalibur. Later, General Cigar assumed responsibility for marketing and selling El Credito, whose brands include La Gloria Cubana and El Rico Habano. In 1999, General Cigar sold its mass market business to Swedish Match in order to concentrate strictly on premium brands. In 2000, Swedish Match assumed majority control of General through a stock purchase from Edgar Cullman and family members. Other important brands have been acquired recently, including Helix, Don Tomas and Astral in 2004. Their factory in Santiago, Dominican Republic is run by General Cigar Dominicana, a subsidiary of General Cigar Co., which began processing tobacco in 1975, and started producing cigars in 1978. The Punch Upper Cut was released in October 2009. Handmade in Honduras with its filler and binder tobaccos grown in Ometepe, Nicaragua, this cigar is perfectly finished with an attractive dark and oily Ecuador Sumatra wrapper. Each cigar has a footband complete with the image of Ometepe and its twin volcanoes Toro | Length: 6.62 | Ring: 54 Grand Corona | Length: 6 | Ring: 45 Robusto | Length: 5.25 | Ring: 50 Dark Side - - No Dark Side this week. PDR 1878 Cubano Especial Seleccion RL 2000 - Wrapper is Lancaster, Pa leaf; binder is the Criollo 98 from the Dominican Republic; and the filler is Nicaraguan and Dominican Republic. Medium bodied but full of great flavors of aged tobacco; slightly sweet with a salty sensation on the tip of the tongue. A mind melting experience that will cleanse the body of stress and free the mind. Tatuaje Especiale - Great opening pepper that mellows into a sweet spicy joy punctuated with leather and mocha. Size: 7.5 x 38 (Especiales/Lancero) Wrapper: Nicaragua Corojo 99 Binder: Nicaragua Filler: Nicaragua Strength: Medium Black Pearl Morada - Doug Woods has survived more ups and downs and pure crashes than perhaps anyone in the cigar business. In 2008 the Morado Torpedo was named Best Cigar of the Year, although the title came with an asterisk, “That you can't find and never heard of.” We first interviewed Doug way back at the 2006 IPCPR, before he was famous. Doug has one of the most extensive and beautiful collections of cigar art to be found anywhere and he uses that art on his cigars. The Robusto that I smoked had sweet chocolate, coffee and fruity elements in the flavor that finished with a distinctly herbal twist. A well constructed cigar with outstanding draw and flavor. A keeper and yes I would buy one again IF I could find someplace that carries them. Doug Wood states: "We wish we had enough of this tobacco to produce several years' worth of our new Black Pearl Morado (Purple) premium cigar but, its featured Cameroon wrapper is in shorter supply than we expected, so we can only offer limited supplies of Morado in three shapes: Robusto (4.75" x 52) Toro (6" x 50), and Torpedo (6.25" x 52)." What's My Band? - this week's Unbanded Cigar is the Licenciados Toro 6 1/2 x 50. May Palio Cutter Contest Winner: Tim Delaney, a proud member of our military, won the Classic Black Palio Cutter. How about that. Ashley might actually possess some ability to play the game after all. It took 13 episodes, but it was nice to finally see someone besides Rob in the Ometepe tribe actually thinking about the game. Grant, Ashley and even Natalie finally displayed some strategic ability. Of course, none of them are functioning at the same level as the Robfather. Do you think it has been hard for them to watch at home and see just how bad they were outplayed by Rob? Who do you most want to see return from Redemption Island? Do you think we will get to see Rob play his HII? What's your ideal final five? Can you think of any scenario where Phillip gets any votes if he makes it to the final tribal council? Who do you have picked to win it all? Here is the merged tribe after episode 13. We got another episode that polarized the audience this week. Some really enjoyed it, especially the grueling Immunity challenge. Others continued to find it predictable with Andrea being the first target. There was also a split this week when it came to predictions for who will go next between Grant and Ashley. The argument to keep Grant to help fight off the RI threat makes a lot of sense. So does the rationale that says Rob will want to remove him as soon as you can because he views him as the biggest remaining threat among the Ometepe players. For each episode, we provide 3 podcasts: an episode recap, an interview with the castoff, and a chance for Survivor fans like yourself to sound off on what you saw and how you think the castaways are fairing in the game. Twenty one fans shared their thoughts on episode 12 and predictions for what we'll see next. We want to thank and acknowledge everyone who contributed to another great Listener Feedback show. Ometepe begins to eat its own, and RI brings the reward dilemma that we were craving. Unfortunately, both events fail to deliver the disruption in the status quo that we were hoping for. The family visit seemed to further cement the disparity between the Robfather's approach to the game and the remaining Ometepes. How is that he gets a new shirt from a loved one? Do you think he's getting special treatment? Did you worry for his safety in the immunity challenge? What did you make of Mike's choice after winning the duel? Did it help or hurt his chances if he makes it back from RI? Are you buying Phillip's explanation of his grand strategy? Do you think anyone on the jury will? Did you ever think he would make it this far? Who are you hoping will return from RI? Of the remaining Ometepes, who stands the best chance of beating Rob at the final tribal council? The total domination of Zapatera is almost complete. With all of the remaining members at Redemption Island, there is only one chance for a Zapatera to return to the game now. Given the divine intervention that Matt receives in the duels, that seems very unlikely. Be honest. Some of you are starting to think that Phillip has tapped into a higher power too, right? How else can you explain the manifestation of feathers and most importantly the vision that enabled him to find his shorts? Now it gets interesting. Ometepe has to finally turn on each other. Do you think they will take the easy route and vote out Andrea? Will she accept that fate or go down fighting? If Matt makes it back from Redemption Island and into the final 3 against Rob, will he be able to beat him? What is your assessment of this group? Do you think we will have a jury that respects gameplay or will we see another classic bitter vote against the person that beat them? What is your guess for the vote out order of the remaining Ometepes? Here is the merged tribe after episode 11. Murlonio:Andrea, Ashley, Grant, Natalie, Phillip and Rob Redemption Island Duel:Steve vs. Ralph vs. Matt vs. Mike Jo Ann thinks Andrea will Rob's first target. We agree with you. Episode 10 was quite the mixed bag. One person came to Phillip's defense, but the majority think he was way off base but certainly a great person to have sitting next to you in a final Tribal Council. Rob seems to have the perfect foils in Phillip and Natalie. Rob can play as cut throat as he needs to when it comes time for the former Ometepe members to turn on each other, and he could still come away with the votes to win with kooky Phillip and Natalie the parrot with him at the end. For each episode, we provide 3 podcasts: an episode recap, an interview with the castoff, and a chance for Survivor fans like yourself to sound off on what you saw and how you think the castaways are fairing in the game. We've seen race come up as in issue in previous seasons, most recently in Samoa, but this episode Phillip took things to a whole different level. As much as we enjoy all his goofy antics, it was really uncomfortable to watch him come unglued and attack Steve. Did you buy his explanation? Do you think he was justified in his outburst? The Robfather appears to have an iron grip on the fate of the remaining Zapatera members. Is it safe enough for him to start voting out some of the Ometepe tribe now? Do you think Zapatera made the right call with the rice? Phillip appears to be really unstable. Can you think of a scenario where he could win the $1M? Do you think Matt or Mike really has a shot at winning if they return from Redemption Island? Here is the merged tribe after episode 10. Murlonio:Andrea, Ashley, Grant, Natalie, Phillip, Ralph, Rob and Steve Redemption Island Duel:Julie vs. Matt vs. Mike Jo Ann thinks Rob will continue the Zapatera death march and target Steve next. Attention all Survivor students. The Robfather is running an advanced placement Survivor strategy clinic during season 22. There will be special sessions on managing sleeping quarters, scheduling feeding times, encouraging a sense of entitlement and outward displays of arrogance as well as tips on how to organize a buddy system to encourage your alliance to spy on each other. Things look grim for the 2 1/2 remaining Zapatera members. Do you think there's any chance for Julie, Ralph and what's left of Steve to make it to the end? Grant showed a small amount of rebellion this week with the fish. Do you ever see him attempting to wrest control away from Rob? Will the original Ometepe members be able to keep it together until all the Zapateras are gone? Would you be happy with Rob's final 3? Who will you be cheering for at the Redemption Island duel? Here is the merged tribe after episode 9. Murlonio:Andrea, Ashley, Julie, Grant, Natalie, Phillip, Ralph, Rob and Steve Redemption Island Duel:Matt vs. David vs.Mike Jo Ann thinks Rob will want to make Julie pay for those zingers she landed in Tribal Council. Targeting flakey tribe members has a long history on Survivor. There is a classic example of it in episode 11 of Survivor Amazon. One of the great dilemmas of the game is that you can essentially trust no one but you are constantly required to choose between small temporary alliances bound by trust. The one surefire way to fail is to demonstrate that you can't be counted on for either choice. When you are viewed as incapable of committing, you make yourself the number one target. Matt clearly has more to learn about the game. Do you think he will figure out what the true lesson of Survivor is during his 2nd visit to RI? Did Rob do Matt a favor and give him an easier path to final 5? Do you think Mike was sincere when he and Matt were reading the bible together? How do you think Grant will respond to getting five votes at Tribal Council? Will Andrea be able to recover from once again being associated too closely with Matt? With Matt out of the picture, what should be Mike's next move? Here is the merged tribe after episode 8. Murlonio:Andrea, Ashley, David, Julie, Grant, Mike, Natalie, Phillip, Ralph, Rob and Steve Redemption Island Duel:Matt With Matt safely out of the way for now, we think Ometepe will shift their focus to the remaining Zapatera members and target Mike next. It took them 7 episodes, but the last remnants of Russell's alliance has finally been eliminated from the game. Stephanie's mentor must have been proud to see her exact another round of revenge in her parting comments. Who do you think has demonstrated the greater apptitude for the game: the group on Ometepe that blindly follows Rob or the Zapatera 6 who threw a challenge in an effort to clean up their tribe? If Matt returns, do you think Rob can welcome him back without risking a betrayal? Who do you think will be the first to flip on their tribe: Phillip, Andrea, David or Ralph? Does Rob have a strong enough alliance to protect him after the merge? Can you see any way for the outnumbered, remaining members of Zapatera to have a shot at winning this season? The merge is finally upon us. If you were playing, who would you want on your jury if you made it to the final tribal council? Here are the tribes after episode 7. Ometepe:Andrea, Ashley, Grant, Natalie, Phillip and Rob Zapatera:David, Julie, Mike, Ralph and Steve Redemption Island Duel:Sarita vs. Matt Jo Ann thinks Mike will be voted out. The intense action and drama of the early episodes appears to have left some of you feeling that we are in a bit of a lull after episode 6. Zapatera finished up with some house cleaning that started with Russell, and Rob's made Ometepe so comfortable that half the tribe doesn't even appear to be playing. Several folks mentioned that Redemption Island might be partially responsible for not yet being more invested in the remaining castaways. Fear not Survivor Fans. We are not quite at the half way point. Rest assured, there will be lots of great action to come! We are only five episodes into this season, but a lot of you were thinking about end game implications in your feedback this week. Topics included Matt's potential role in Rob's future success or failure, the effectiveness of the Zapatera 6 as a team and what that means for them at the end, and several people focused on how the tribes will fair after the expected merge. The voicing of support for Rob continues to build as he deftly manages everyone left in Ometepe. We also enjoyed the analysis you offered on the potential implications and possible variations for Redemption Island in future seasons. The surprises just keep coming. Who would have guessed in the beginning of the season that the "Natalie White clone", who looked like she was hand picked to be in an alliance with Russell, had no social game? Stephanie's storm showed up, but she wasn't immune to it's effects. The bitterness that she and Krista cultivated seems to have ensured that they will not be long for the game. All told, Zapatera took quite the beating this week as almost everyone was shown to be flawed in some manner: Mike was a klutz and doused the fire, Julie dwells on karmic retribution, Sarita made a bad decision at the challenge by picking Stephanie instead of David, Stephanie failed to solve the puzzle, Ralph didn't know his left from his right, David is a hot head, Steve is unhealthy and unathletic. Do you think we might be witnessing the beginning of the end of the Zapatera tribe? Can you see any way for Stephanie to survive? How long will Rob be able to hide the HII from his alliance? Do you think there is any chance that Matt and Andrea will reunite to get revenge on Ometepe? Does Krista stand a chance to upset Matt at Redemption Island? Here are the tribes after episode 5. Ometepe:Andrea, Ashley, Grant, Natalie, Phillip and Rob Zapatera:David, Julie, Mike, Ralph, Sarita, Stephanie and Steve Redemption Island Duel:Krista vs. Matt We are speculating that the Ometepe win was a fluke, and predict that they will finally give Phillip the boot after they lose next week. That was the 1-2 punch, and he is finally down for the count. But just like a poisonous snake that's lethal even after you kill it, Russell found a way to strike one more time before he made his final exit. So much for Ralph keeping secrets. Wouldn't you have loved to see the Ometepe reaction when they found out that Zapatera threw the challenge? How much damage do you think Ralph's slip up will cause them down the road? Do you think Rob will end up sharing the HII with his alliance? Why do you think we never see anyone else from Ometepe looking for it? We didn't see much from Andrea this week. The surprises just keep coming. Until this episode, Russell had never been voted out. This season he is so disliked by his own tribe that they risked their future in the game to send him packing, if only momentarily. How about that Ralph? It's only episode 2 and the Robfather has already delivered a wicked Boston blindside! He wasn't the only one making big moves though. Rooster Ralph managed to one up him with two big scores. How do you think Andrea will exact her revenge? Is Rob in any danger of losing control of his tribe? This week Colin Ganley of CigarTourism.com and Bob talk about the January 2011 trip to Nicaragua in which Bob will be participating. Also this week, the debut of "What's Hot, What's Not, What's Next" - Cigar retailers from around the country share buyer passions and passes and let us know what new releases are on order. This week Michael Herklots from Davidoff of Geneva, New York city stores (Madison Avenue and The Shops at Columbus Circle); Heather Haddad from Fumee Cigar Lounge in Austin, Texas; and Doug Fiore from Winston's Humidor in Midlothian, Virginia share their insights. Cigar of the Week - Esteban Carreras 5150 - The Esteban Carreras 5150 series is a medium bodied Corojo with an Ecuadorian grown Sumatra wrapper and Nicaraguan fillers and binder. Dark Side - RAMON ALLONES SMALL CLUB CORONAS Length: 110 Ring: 42 Format: Minuto Ramón Allones is one of the big names in the history of Habanos. Founded in 1837, it is also one of the oldest brands in production. A Galician by birth, Ramón Allones was the first cigar manufacturer to pack his cigars in boxes decorated with labels and stamped with his brand's emblem. He was the pioneer of the packaging that we know today. All of the Ramon Allones cigars are filled with a blend of tobaccos from the Vuelta Abajo region, characterised by their intense and complex taste. What else have you been smokin' Colin? Cruzado Mario What else have you been smokin' Dale? Torano Single Region Serie Jalapa Robusto 5 x 52 - One of the most exciting releases from IPCPR if you are into understanding how tobacco from one specific region tastes. In this case, all the tobacco in the Jalapa series comes from one farm in the Jalapa area of Nicaragua. It's very hard to make a deep, rich, complex blend from just one area, but Torano has done it with this cigar! Well balanced in strength, roundness and body, with earthy flavors & natural sweetness. The room aroma is a touch spicy and intoxicating! Try one of these to sample the character of Jalapa tobacco. Don Francisco Lancero - A gift to me from ER Doc during his visit last month, this cigar was perhaps the most flavorful cigar I smoked this week. Layer upon layer of tastes kept building, providing one of the most complex cigars I've had in a long time. Superb construction allowed a slow, cool smoke. Full bodied and medium in strength, the list of flavors noted is way long, but in the main; nuts, citrus, espresso, cedar and vanilla were the highlights. Casa Magna Colorado and Casa Magna Sungrown What else have you been smokin' Bob? CAO La Traviata Maduro - La Traviata Maduro is everything the La Traviata cigar should have been last year; why it took CAO a year to make the right cigar is beyond me. They ruined the Brazillia by making it in a monster 60 rg; however, this cigar makes up for it. The La Traviata Maduro proves that CAO can make good cigars without going all Hollywood. Torano Master - New blend from the Torano family. Carlos Torano has broken the mold at Torano CIgars and produced a slightly more full flavored cigar that is complex and pleasing. An outstanding cigar with complex flavor and great construction. Year after year the Torano family continues to put out fine cigars and now they are once again in charge of their own distribution. If you thought they only did mild-medium cigars, smoke this and you will change your mind. Macanudo Cru Royale - For me this was the biggest surprise of the IPCPR; it has flavor; it has style; and it has great construction. I want more of these. The Cru Royale demonstrates that General Cigar is not stuck in the past nor are they afraid to take a chance. I was disappointed in the results of using Ometepe tobacco in their other blends and this cigar shows you don't need trickery or gimmicks to make an excellent cigar. The PUNCH Upper Cut was a bland result of too many taste tests and committee work that resulted in a bland and disappointing cigar. The Cru Royale landed a hook on the Uppercut to put it on the mat. What's My Band? - #921 from Liz H. Upmann Reserve Maduro 5x50 Robusto with wonderful pre-smoke barnyard aromas. August Palio Cutter Contest Winner: Dave Wallace won a gold Palio Cutter. Enter the September contest to win a classic black Palio Cutter. Herf Line Reviews - If you call and leave a cigar review on the herf line and it is played on the show, you will receive a DogWatch Cigar Radio patch! You can reach the Herfline at 321-594-4373 - or cigar.radio on Skype. You can also send email to theshow@cigarmedia.tv. Origin of the term HERF: From Cigar Craig, http://cigarcraig.wordpress.com/2009/09/29/the-origin-of-the-word-herf/ Do you have a suggestion for the unbanded cigar of the week? Every week Bob and Dale include an “unbanded cigar” segment in their show in which they smoke a cigar without any markings and give their honest opinions. Bob then opens a sealed envelope and discovers the cigar’s name and manufacturer. If you have suggestions for the "What's My Band?" segment, please send them to liz@cigarmedia.tv. Music provided by the Figurados from their new album, "Lesson Two," and The Surfonics.
