During the conversation, Matt talks about his passion for what he does and details how he began his professional journey with commercial brokerage houses. He recounts his road to becoming a principal at R2, and the opportunities and support of colleagues that allowed him to simultaneously have two significant roles at major real estate companies, including founding and driving Madison Rose forward. He details his involvement with the two companies, which at time cross paths on projects but remain separate. Matt discusses his mentors and the impact they had in the way he guides and manages his employees, and his belief that positive energy and attitude translates into building a positive workforce and overall success. Phil and Matt also talk about the office market and the current vacancy rate in Chicago, and how cities across the nation are feeling the pressure. Specifically, the massive dent in the market due to less demand with more people working from home. Matt and Phil also discuss distressed office space and explain the methodology of what should and needs to occur to get a business to a place that feels good where it can operate effectively. They also dive into the diamond that is 150 North Michigan, and the outlook of how it will play out in the market as a prime location, with new amenities and building upgrades. They touch on what Chicago looks like post-pandemic, if people are coming back downtown, the downside of financing and underwriting transactions, and everyone's favorite – taxes. The pair also talk about the strategy in bringing back the Chicago Board of Trade building from foreclosure to a white-hot, second-generation property for office use, and how vintage spaces are being rebranded and brought back to life while maintaining their history and importance to the city. Matt has nearly two decades of experience repositioning and leasing of commercial real estate assets. His projects include the Chicago Main Post Office, Aon Center, Citadel Center, Willis Tower and Prudential Plaza. Matt is a two-time recipient of the Greater Chicago Food Depository's ‘Broker of the Year' Award. R2 Companies owns, operates and manages superior investment opportunities. With offices in Chicago, Milwaukee and Minneapolis, they are fully-integrated – managing all aspects of the real estate investment process. Madison Rose, founded in 2019, brings buildings back to life. Named after Pistorio's two daughters, the firm brings a new age model to leasing by curating the stories of properties and tailoring their approach to showcase each building's unique strengths and value.

Today Daily Devotional

“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10 Wednesdays are busy at Roseland Christian Ministries. The Greater Chicago Food Depository drops off several tons of food, medical professionals come to provide medical care to the community, and lunch is served to 70-90 men and women. In a small classroom behind this hustle and bustle, a gathering of mostly older women sits in a circle. Nearly every week our meeting begins in the same way. One of us reads Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.” Then we sit in stillness and silence together for a few minutes. I tend to want to fill the silence with noise. I want to break the stillness with movement. But when I surrender my desire to talk and move, and we simply sit in the still silence as brothers and sisters, I am surprised at the peace and calm that come over us. In our hearts and minds we say over and over again, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Those few minutes each week, for all of us who gather in the circle, have become a sanctuary in the midst of chaos. What about you? Do you have a place and time to sit with others in the stillness and silence of God's presence? Lord, we can often get so busy and distracted. Help us to still our minds and bodies and to rest in the assurance that you are God and you are with us. Amen.

Coco + Peach Jewelry https://www.cocopeachjewelry.com/ Jessica is the designer/founder of coco + peach jewelry, your one stop online jewelry boutique for chic women + men + cool girls everywhere. Her mission is pretty simple: design affordable luxuries that won't break the bank and are timeless. She launched her boutique in 2019 but has been designing jewelry for over the past decade. You could say jewelry is in her genes since almost everyone in her family and huge extended family (no joke, she have a million cousins) have been in the jewelry business since the 1980s. As immigrants from Ecuador and Colombia, her family believed that to have your own business was the ultimate achievement and she grew up with the mentality that she always needed to be her own boss. Although she grew up in her parents' jewelry store, running their errands at the famed Jeweler's Row and spending a lifetime surrounded by people dedicated to the art of jewelry making, she didn't pursue jewelry as her career. After graduating with her doctorate in psychology and opening her own private practice, she started dipping her toes in the family business and began designing pieces for herself. Whenever she wore my jewelry, strangers would stop me and ask about them. Having a passion for design and seeing a need for affordable and well made jewelry, she launched coco + peach jewelry in May 2019, named after my daughters' nicknames. She added a line for younger girls, Girl, and c+p men in 2020. In addition to being affordable and stylish, coco + peach is also chic + philanthropic. She is a proud partner with the Greater Chicago Food Depository and donate $1 of every sale to this organization. Since designing her first earring (she still wears the prototype of the Carolina), she been dedicated to creating pieces that she would wear from the office to a night out. If she won't wear it, you won't see it in the boutique. Creating modern treasures under $100 is her number one goal and she hopes you love your c+p jewelry as much as she does.

Personal shoppers helped clients choose from a selection of fresh meats and locally grown produce, as well as canned goods, bread, milk, flowers, and more.   “The timing of this program is vital as food insecurity is distinctly felt at the holidays when a meal is about more than just food – it's about family, togetherness, and celebration.   The next Bears Neighborhood Pantry will be on January 7 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at The Salvation Army Harbor Light Corps Community Center in West Humboldt Park (825 N. This week, your hosts Steve Lowry and Yvonne Godfrey interview Joseph Power, Jr. and Larry Rogers, Jr. of Powers Rogers, LLP (https://www.claggettlaw.com/)   Remember to rate and review GTP in iTunes: Click Here To Rate and Review   Episode Details: Accomplished Chicago trial lawyers Joseph Power, Jr. and Larry Rogers, Jr. of Powers Rogers, LLP explain how they secured justice for the families of two attorneys and a law office secretary who were shot by a disgruntled client who gained unauthorized access to the office due to the failure of building security officers to follow established safety procedures. On December 8, 2006, Joseph Jackson entered a 41-floor professional building at 500 West Madison Street in Chicago, held Allied Barton Security Services officer Robert Brown at gunpoint and demanded to be taken to the 38th floor, where patent lawyer Michael McKenna's office was located. A client of Michael McKenna and an inventor seeking a patent, Joseph Jackson mistakenly thought Michael McKenna had sold his idea and owed him money. Supervising security officer Sidney Chambers knew that Joseph Jackson had been loitering in the building for hours and had suspiciously interacted with officer Robert Brown, but failed to take action. Robert Brown did not follow safety protocol, utilize officer codes to alert his supervising officer to the situation or employ restraint techniques designed to defuse the situation. Instead, he tried to flee the scene and save himself when Joseph Jackson began firing his gun in the law office, fatally shooting Michael McKenna and Allen Hoover and wounding office secretary Ruth Lieb. In 2017, a Cook County, Illinois jury delivered a verdict against Allied Barton Security Services, Sidney Chambers and Joseph Jackson, assigning 60 percent of the responsibility to the deceased Joseph Jackson and 40 percent to Allied Barton in a $30,650,000 verdict.      Click Here to Read/Download the Complete Trial Documents   Guest Bios: Joseph Power Jr. Joseph A. Now that Thanksgiving has passed and the calendar reads December, there’s no denying the holiday season is upon us. In the spirit of gratitude and giving, we at the #WeGotGoals podcast have chosen to focus our fourth, and final, segment of season 3 on the theme of Contributing Generously. It’s not really a stretch for us—all along, we’ve noticed most of the goal-getters we have on the show aren’t motivated by merely money, fame, or prestige. Nearly all have a bigger picture in mind, a vision of some way they can leave the world a better place than they found it. This quarter, we’ll bring this element to the fore, focusing on guests who have philanthropy, service, or selflessness at the core of their efforts. We kick things off, as we always do, with a hostful episode. This week, the four of us—me (Cindy Kuzma), Jeana Anderson Cohen, Kristen Geil, and Maggie Umberger—first recap some of the lessons from our past segment on Better, Faster, Stronger (including how we netted out on our goals for those few months). Then, we delve into what Contributing Generously means to us, and how we’ll make it a priority as we explore the topic with our guests in these upcoming months. Check out this episode to hear: 1:33: What we learned about the importance of recovery 4:19: Why getting better, faster, and stronger is often as much psychological as physical 5:55 Why progress comes under stress, and how high achievers overcome obstacles along the way to achievement 7:39: Our top takeaways from our guests, including having flexibility in your process; using all the resources at your disposal; and working in sprints 10:53: How we fared on our own better, faster, and stronger goals—including some unanticipated obstacles and pleasant surprises 16:13: Why we decided to focus our final segment of season 3 on contributing generously, and how we define that 16:49: The goals we’ve accomplished along these lines in the past, including fundraising on relay teams and supporting aSweatLife ambassadors in their charitable efforts 20:07: Our hacks for making service a priority, even when life gets busy 22:26: Where we find inspiration for giving back, including a touching story about Maggie’s father 24:21: The big, generous goals we’re setting for ourselves this quarter Links/resources we mention: Episode 123, on which Kristen interviews me and Carrie Jackson Cheadle Episode 118, with Tevia Celli Episode 128, with Autumn Calabrese Episode 124, with Jay DeCoons Episode 121, with Jillian Bell and Paul Downs Colaizzo The Greater Chicago Food Depository An article about how the Chicago Public Library eliminated most fines Mission Propelle   If you love this episode as much as we do, subscribe to the #WeGotGoals podcast wherever you like to listen to podcasts, including on Apple and Spotify (and hey, leave us a rating while you’re at it!).

Kelly's way of viewing their partnership is also important to note as you'll hear her refer to the idea of being peers. This mentality is one that I think will serve nonprofits well and one that challenges us to be sure we're up to a high standard before we claim that status. As you enjoy the show, remember you can connect with me on Twitter where I'm @PhilanthropyPod and use the hashtag #philanthropypodcast or the loyal listener hashtag that is provided at the end of the show.
