From August 2, 2017: We interview writer and historian Francis Richard Conolly, the filmmaker behind the explosive documentary and viral sensation, JFK to 9/11: Everything Is a Rich Man's Trick. Released in 2014, it has garnered rave reviews since its release and, probably more than a little consternation from the, "powers that be", as it explains and synthesizes a tremendous amount of information that the elite don't want you to be aware of, let alone understand. Clocking in at 3 1/2 hours, Everything Is a Rich Man's Trick, takes you on a journey from WWI up the present day, explaining the, "who, how & why of the JFK assassination", and the likelihood that many of the same players (or at least the same playbook) were behind 9/11. It's not only deeply informative, but riveting as well, and we couldn't recommend it any higher for those interested in how the "real world" works.
Curious what rural US cannabis sales might look like? Saskatchewan (SK) could be that harbinger, giving an insight into future sales throughout the central United States. Headset's latest report explores the differences in cannabis sales trends across four Canadian provinces, with a focus on the smallest population, SK. There are no provincially-run cannabis retailers, which means limited partnerships (LPs) are more free to negotiate with private distributors and directly with retailers. This makes SK a great province for smaller brands to test their ideas and establish traction with consumers before scaling up and expanding into other areas. Even though Saskatchewan has lower monthly cannabis sales compared to Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario, the SK market is growing at the same rate as the three other provinces. From August 2019 through August 2020, total SK sales increased 47% to $12.9M. The fully private nature of the market has resulted in the presence of more products and brands available to consumers in SK than the other three provinces. Saskatchewan also has the highest market share in Vapor Pens compared to the other three provinces, and the lowest market share in Edibles and Beverages. Environmental, Social, and Governance factors (ESG's) refer to a set of standards that socially conscious investors use to screen potential investments. ESG's are increasing in importance and many companies are looking to ESGs to guide sustainability decisions and to prove their sustainability commitment to customers and stakeholders. Join us for this episode as Cari Boyce, Katherine Neebe, and Doug Esamann join host John Failla to discuss the steps Duke Energy has taken in the adoption and implementation of ESGs in moving toward its sustainability goals. You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... Introducing this episode’s guests and their experience with renewable energy [2:01] Why Katherine chose to move from Walmart to join Duke Energy [5:30] What is ESG investing and why is it of such importance these days? [10:01] Duke’s 20-year history in sustainability planning and its current goals [18:20] To what degree are ESG goals a business imperative for energy companies? [29:39] The role energy storage and emerging tech will play in Duke’s ESG picture [42:16] Collaboration is key in the energy transition [50:01] The role of investment in moving forward in a greener, cleaner way [53:13] A closer look at the role of ESG in corporate responsibility ESG refers to how a company performs in these three key areas: Environmental criteria: how does the company perform in terms of its ecological and environmental responsibility to the community? Social criteria: how does the company manage relationships with employees, suppliers, customers, and the communities where it operates? Governance: how does a company’s leadership, executive pay, audits, internal controls, and shareholder rights operate? Companies that navigate trends in the ESG space tend to outperform companies that ignore those trends. For that reason, ESG's should be a core consideration to a company’s strategy and fundamental to the way the company does business. Sustainability has been a core value at Duke Energy for 20 years Duke Energy, being a major electricity provider, sees itself as a major contributor to the well-being and fulfillment of the people who live in the communities it serves. As a result, the team at Duke has learned to listen to stakeholders, customers, and investors to know what’s important to everyone. The company also pays close attention to the environmental needs and impact of any projects it is involved with. When it comes to ESG goals, Duke’s emphasis tends to be more on environmental aspects since it is a company that impacts the environment directly by virtue of what it supplies. But the social and governance aspects are just as important. The challenges are many; among them are the pressures to “green” their energy supply while doing it in ways that are affordable for customers. The Duke team is committed to continuing the search for the right balance and proper perspective to make it possible to do both. It’s imperative for companies like Duke to focus on ESG goals As the demand for ESG consideration increases from investors and customers alike, Duke Energy is proving themselves to be a leader in the field. Emerging energy technologies like solar and wind are options customers want to have as energy options, and Duke is providing them. As proof of its commitment in these areas, to-date, Duke has retired more coal-based power plants than any other industry player and by 2030 Duke will no longer be producing energy via coal within the Carolinas. In Indiana (which is considered “coal country”) it will only be 10 to 15 years before coal-based energy production is no more for Duke. As a result of these commitments, the carbon intensity Duke is serving to its customers is some of the lowest in the country. Though many who are driving the renewable energy transition want Duke and other energy suppliers to make this transition more quickly, it’s an issue where goals have to be pursued at the proper pace. Duke has a two-fold commitment, to supply reliable energy for customers while at the same time moving the needle forward in the renewable transition. Interview with Land Academy Million Dollar Member Christine McManus (LA 1359) Transcript: Steven Jack Butala: Steve and Jill here. Jill DeWit: Hello. Steven Jack Butala: Welcome to the Land Academy Show, entertaining land investment talk. I'm Steven Jack Butala. Jill DeWit: I'm Jill DeWit, broadcasting from sunny Southern California. Steven Jack Butala: Today, Jill and I talk with Land Academy member Christine McManus. Christine, how are you? Christine McManus: Hi, there. I'm doing well. Steven Jack Butala: We were having our Thursday webinar last week, and Christine casually and quietly reported in the chat that she's about to make a million and a half bucks on a deal. Christine McManus: Unheard of. Steven Jack Butala: A week later, you're on the show. Christine McManus: Yeah, I appreciate it. I'm really delighted to be visiting with you today. Jill DeWit: She just lobbed that in there at the end. It was like, "Oh, yeah, by the way." I'm sure people at the end of the call were like, "What, what, what? What just happened? What are you talking about?" We do want to hear more about that. Christine McManus: Very exciting times for us. Jill DeWit: Yeah. Steven Jack Butala: That's great. Jill DeWit: Are you house shopping yet? Christine McManus: No. In fact, it's funny because we were talking just yesterday, even before this deal, which doesn't close until December. We've made decent money buying and selling land, believe me. Steven Jack Butala: This isn't new to you. It's not. You just added a couple of zeros. Christine McManus: Right, right. Yeah, we have not purchased anything. Part of it is because I want to maintain a big chunk of money so we can buy more land. The other part is ... I don't know how to say this without sounding a little arrogant, and I hope it doesn't come across that way ... I've never had this much money. I mean, we've had successful careers and made very decent incomes, but yeah, this is unfathomable to us. It really is. It's crazy exciting. Steven Jack Butala: Boy, I hope you times-10 it next year. Christine McManus: Right, right. Jill DeWit: "Is this my bank balance? Am I looking at this right? I've got to call. There's something wrong." Christine McManus: Right, right. My business partner actually quit her job three months ago. We did not anticipate that happening until this time next year, but we blew our goals out of the water and here we are. Steven Jack Butala: Barring this large transaction, what were your goals, if you don't mind me asking, for 2020? You obviously exceeded them. Can you share some numbers? Christine McManus: Sure, absolutely. If you don't mind, I'll back up just a little bit. I was a Land Academy lawyer for about a year before we sent the first mailer. I'm very diligent about my own research on the internet, followed you guys diligently, followed another land person, and finally just bit the bullet, one month before I was laid off from my job. Steven Jack Butala: Oh, man. Christine McManus: Yeah. You guys literally saved our lives, with respect to roof over the head, food on the table. I did get a decent severance pay, which increased our acquisition funds a little bit, so it became really fun in 2018. From August 2018 to August 2019, our goal was to make $20,000 a month, and we've surpassed that. Very exciting. Steven Jack Butala: I always say, if you can't live on 20 grand a month, something's wrong. Your priorities are wrong in life. Christine McManus: Indeed. Jill DeWit: If you can't live on five grand a month, I would say. Christine McManus: Right, right, and we were, and quite comfortably. Yeah, we just have not had any big purchase or splurge. We are enjoying writing larger checks to folks we want to donate to, so that's fun. Steven Jack Butala: Oh, that's great. Excellent. Jill DeWit: I love it. Now, coming into this, did you have any prior real estate experience at all? Christine McManus: I did not, Jill.

Many Christians do not investigate – or even know about - the possibility of spiritual awakening because they do not hear about it from the pulpit or see examples of it in the Christian Bible. So they settle for a second-hand faith of believing in things. But the truth is that there are biblical examples hiding in plain sight. One of them is the Old Testament character of Job. Job is an Old Testament Buddha whose account of spiritual awakening is recorded in the Book of Job. The events that lead to both the Buddha’s and Job’s awakenings are similar, and I explain how. In this episode I investigate the age-old problem of suffering or problem of pain and see how it can act like a Zen koan to push us beyond theology and traditional religion into what is called unitive awareness or nondual awareness. In connection with this episode, I am offering my 2017 book Thank God for Atheists free for a limited time. From August 29 to September 2, 2020, you can download a free copy of the kindle edition of this book from Amazon. Dual-listed South32 is making good progress in its negotiations with State-owned power utility Eskom on electricity prices for its Hillside aluminium smelter in Richards Bay, the group said during a media call on August 20. COO Mike Fraser said the group had reached an agreement with Eskom on a new agreement that would ensure the provision of power to Hillside for a ten-year period. The group is, however, waiting for the National Energy Regulator of South Africa's (Nersa's) approval. Nersa has, in turn, asked Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe to update the long-term framework for the industrial tariff structure. While that is under way, South32 has concluded an interim agreement with Eskom. From August 1, South32 will start accruing for the new contract, which will come into effect once Nersa approval is received. Fraser indicated that the new contract would be similar to the contract in place at Mozal Aluminium, which is a rand-based contract, and would not have any aluminium price linkage to it. He said that while the group would lose some of the benefits of downside protection when prices were weak, if prices recovered, tariffs would be closer to what it paid under the current agreement. The group believes this new contract is the right outcome to achieve, leaving it with a solid base going forward. South32 achieved record production at Hillside for the 2020 financial year, as the smelter continued to test its technical capacity. Full-year costs decreased by 25% year-on-year as the smelter benefitted from lower raw material input prices and a workforce structure concluded in June 2019. Meanwhile, South32 is also progressing the divestment of South Africa Energy Coal. The successful disinvestment is expected to meaningfully reduce the group’s capital intensity. CEO Graham Kerr said the disinvestment of South African Energy Coal was on track for completion in the six months to December 31, subject to a number of material conditions, with both international and local approvals required. He said local approvals, which included that of Eskom and the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, were progressing well, with no indication that the transaction would not be allowed to go ahead as planned. Further, South32 last week announced that the Samancor manganese joint venture (JV), in which it holds a 60% stake, had inked a deal with GFG Alliance to divest of its shareholding in the Tasmanian Electro Metallurgical Company (Temco). The group on August 20 said the transaction would ensure that workers at the smelter would retain their jobs, while the operation would continue to benefit the community. South32 in July placed the Metalloys manganese alloys smelter in Meyerton, Gauteng, on temporary care and maintenance. Kerr said the group had gone through the process of trying to find a workable solution for Metalloys but that this had been impeded by the impact of Covid-19 on prices. He said that, while not an ideal outcome, a Section 189 process was completed in July, with only about 30 employees staying on to provide care-and-maintenance services. As lockdown restrictions were relaxed and if prices improved, the group would continue to look for opportunities for the smelter, Kerr said. In terms of the group’s response to the London Metal Exchange launching low-carbon aluminium products that would sell at a price premium from the start of next year, the group said there was not yet sufficient supply of low-carbon aluminium that could satisfy that market at this stage; therefore, the group still saw a market for aluminium with a relatively high carbon fraction. South32 said that it did not foresee a major impact in this regard, purely because supply was unlikely to meet the demand. Moreover, owing to its portfolio, Mozal Aluminium had the potential to supply “green” aluminium products, so there could be an opportunity for this in the long term.

For this one-off special, this Battlebots podcast is roasting robots from Robot Wars, specifically the ones associated with the annual RoboNerd convention in England. We've got pups, cages, rc cars, and self-roasting machines for all. RoboNerd is a robot combat convention usually held in England, and this year it's going online with a bunch of awesome videos and content from around the community. From August 15th through the 22nd everyone is encouraged to post their own robot combat related stuff in a big celebration of this nerdy hobby The Roasting Robots Podcast is a humorous, sarcastic look at the different kinds of robots that have been entered into Battlebots competitions over the years. We love them, and we're glad they were made (or sometimes were never built), but that doesn't mean we won't crack some jokes at their expense. Each episode the robots we roast are chosen completely at random from 20 years of Battlebots history. This week on Episode 472 of Priority One --- We ‘Trek Out’ what ViacomCBS has in-store for streaming, “Lower Deck’s” Future - or past, and T-Shirt subscriptions. In Star Trek gaming, the game’s afoot with Sansar’s Roddenberry Museum scavenger hunt, get your tabletop action on with an awesome humble bundle, and Timelines has an update. Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we’ll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! This Weeks Community Question Is: CQ: For those of you who will have the opportunity --- how will YOU watch the Thursday Premiere of Lower Decks? With Friends via Zoom? By yourself with a bowl of popcorn and your favorite beverage? And CQ: Who do you think would be a good fit to return in animated form in Star Trek: Lower Decks. TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan ViacomCBS’ Plans to Rebrand, Expand Move Forward 'What's in a name? that which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet'. Or - - that which we call a recently-re-merged-corporation’s over-the-top subscription service by any other name would deliver as enjoyable an entertainment experience at a comparable price point? Okay, so the idiom may not entirely work here… and the iambic pentameter was thrown to wind - but it does Segway very - VERY - poorly into our first story! On Wednesday July 29th ViacomCBS revealed more about their upcoming CBS All Access revamp, and in the process added 70 shows to All Access’ expanding catalogue. President/CEO of ViacomCBS Digital and ViacomCBS’s chief digital officer Marc DeBevoise said of the move ”It’s the first big step to transform All Access into the super-service we’ve been talking about”. Included in the addition are titles from BET, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, The Smithsonian Channel, VH1, and TV Land - and Paramount Pictures threw in a few movies for good measure. Along with the title roll-out, the CBS All Access’ user interface got an upgrade, and we learned a little more about ViacomCBS’ strategy for the service. On exclusivity and distribution, DeBevoise told ViacomCBS Newsroom “A lot of our competitors are being carried on one platform and not on another. We’re effectively across all the major platforms already. We are everywhere. We have millions of subscribers. We have a service with high engagement”. Translation, they’re more than happy to let you watch Star Trek elsewhere - as long as they’re getting paid. So now the important stuff - what’s this going to cost us? As of right now DeBevoise doesn’t expect an increase with the rebranding roll out, due to hit sometime in 2021! Vague, but good news nonetheless. Lower Decks “Legacy Actors” and Hope for International Viewers Part of the problem with pre-recording a podcast is that - inevitably - important talking points today may turn out to be old news tomorrow. That COULD be the case with our next story - you’ll see what we mean in a minute. On Monday August 3rd, entertainment website Inverse published a sit down with “Star Trek: Lower Decks” show-runner Mike McMahon and star Tawny Newsome to discuss the upcoming series - set to debut on August 6th. The series, which takes place one year after the events of “Star Trek: Nemesis”, would presumably have reference to the Star Trek of that era. When McMahon and Newsome were asked about a possible Newsome/Mariner crossover to “Star Trek: Picard”, McMahon dropped a fully trekked nugget straight into the sauce. ”That’s interesting because we do have legacy actors who show up in the first season of Lower Decks and we have gotten to have a little bit of where are they now sort of vibe through a Lower Decks lens. But I gotta say, if anyone wants Mariner to show up on their live-action Star Treks, you’ve got to have Tawny” So now the time paradox - this news on Friday August 7th may NOT be as great as it was on Tuesday August 4th because on Thursday August 6th one of those Legacy Actors may have already shown up. Or maybe not - Especially if you don’t live in North America. At the time of this writing, there still hasn’t been word on how international viewers will get to watch Trek’s first comedy series. On Friday July 31st, Twitter Tweeter @Nottinghillnerd Tweeted https://twitter.com/NottingHillNerd/status/1289258556319916033 to which showrunner McMahon replied https://twitter.com/MikeMcMahanTM/status/1289279515709997056 So since LAST Friday, there hasn’t been any further news. But there may be after August 4th but before August 7th. I hate temporal mechanics. Lower Decks T-Shirt Club Do you like Trek T-shirts? Subscriptions? Exclusivity? Then “Star Trek: Lower Decks” and Animation Production House and T-shirt Company Titmouse have a deal for you! Behold “the Lower Deckers Shirt Collective Subscription” Announced on Friday July 31st, the subscription service will feature 10 t-shirts - one for every episode of “Lower Decks” - designed by the team at Titmouse. For 180 US Dollars, residents of the United States and Canada will receive all 10 offerings, plus a free members-only eleventh. If you aren’t sure you want that many pieces of wearable Titmouse art, you can order one at a time for 20 US Dollars - but remember, you’ll forfeit the member exclusive. Don’t have the money now but you want the shirts? Well, unfortunately, that may prove to be a problem. To quote the Titmouse website ”When the new episode airs, the previous week's shirt style is GONE. No more. Nuh uh. Byeee. Don't look back. The only way to go now is forward.” In an interview with Star Trek.com to announce the subscription, Titmouse Director Barry Kelly said of the design process ”We try to find that little nugget of an idea that sparks a design. Could be a logo in the episode, could be an iconic shot, or just a random prop in the background could make a funny and iconic shirt.” Star Trek Gaming News by Shane Hoover and Thomas Reynolds Star Trek Timelines: “Legend Unwritten” and the Enterprise Vacation Campaign “As preparations to toast the legendary James T. Kirk get underway, the personal effects gathered to help pay tribute begin to change or disappear! Can you determine what kind of temporal disturbance is causing this before Kirk himself vanishes?” Get ready to party like it’s 2019, 2268 and 2404 at the same time, captains. From August 6th to 10th, Star Trek Timelines is reprising its “Legend Unwritten” Galaxy Event from March of last year for the Federation and Augment factions. This time around, the ranked reward will be the new 5-star EV Suit T’Pol; last week’s ranked reward crew Technician Fisher joins 5-star Captain Harry Kim, 4-star 1701 Jadzia, and 4-star Evil Kirk as the event crew. At least, we’re pretty sure it’s Evil Kirk. None of them are wearing name tags. The official Star Trek Timelines Twitter account also announced the upcoming Enterprise Vacation Campaign, starting August 6th. Although details on the event remain scant, we do know it will feature Enterprise’s Lieutenant Reed and Commander Tucker as we saw in the episode “Two Days and Two Nights”. Probably not all of how much we saw them, though. Consider Yourself Humbled (Bundled) Star Trek may take place in an idealized future, but its gaming franchises continue to recognize the needs of the many today. Until August 19th, Humble Bundle and Modiphius Entertainment are offering a Star Trek Adventures RPG Book Bundle in support of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Purchasing the bundle at the top $15 tier unlocks the Federation core rulebook, expansions, pregenerated adventures, canon character sheets, and even a 50% discount off the core rulebook print edition. As of writing the Bundle has raised $144,510.12 from 9,042 purchases. The Hunt Is On With Roddenberry And Sansar Back in episode 467, we let you know about an upcoming virtual scavenger hunt sponsored by Roddenberry Entertainment, in partnership with Sansar. Well, Captains, the hunt has begun! Since July 28th, Sansar has been dropping regular clues to the mystery on its social media channels. The first clue was “We’re FLOATING with excitement to start off the Roddenberry Recovery Mission” The next clue was “We’ve got brews for you, on this Skyway Avenue.” Then came the clue, “You’ll need to grab yourself a cup of Mokah to get energized!” And, after the weekend break, yesterday’s clue was “After finding this clue, you may need a shower; it sure is a SANDY Sansar day.” To Trek out every day’s clue, just follow Sansar and Roddenberry Entertainment on Twitter. And to track down the missing items, and maybe win an Oculus Rift S VR Headset (among other prizes), head into the worlds of Sansar and follow the trail. You don’t even need VR to play, thanks to a desktop-only PC client option. Good hunting, Captains!
The Kingsgate Clothing Group has expanded its personal protective equipment (PPE) production line-up to include isolation gowns, used by hospital personnel. The group already produces cloth masks for the commercial and corporate market. Kingsgate Clothing Group executive Ahmed Dhai says the gown project forms part of a wider effort within the South African clothing industry and government to provide localised solutions to the country’s fight against Covid-19. “The isolation gown has largely been imported thus far. While there has also been a level of local production, nothing has met the required standards of SANS 53795. “I am pleased to advise that we have now managed to make two successful products that meet the required standard. “One is from an entirely localised supply chain, with the material coming from Gauteng, and the other from an imported fabric supply, but with local production,” says Dhai. Kingsgate Clothing plans to produce the isolation gowns at its factory in Hammersdale, near Durban. “We need government to now buy this from us before we can kickstart the production line,” says Dhai. “We believe that 50 workers can produce 10 000 garments a week. With the demand running into the millions, we believe we can use this product to sustain our industry over the next few months. “It is critical to note that both gown products cost only 50% of the maximum regulated price as indicated by National Treasury,” he adds. “And, in addition to saving government expenditure on isolation gowns, the localised supply chain creates jobs and pours liquidity into the local economy at a critical point in time.” Dhai notes that Kingsgate Clothing has uploaded the approved products on the Business for South Africa Covid Portal, which now makes them eligible for procurement by the Solidarity Fund and any other organisation that needs the product. Dhai says Kingsgate Clothing is still producing clothing items too. “We have lost the entire winter season, so we did not do any winter production. We’ll hold the winter raw material for a year, and have now moved onto summer production. From August onwards we’ll distribute summer clothing. “But demand levels are not the same as usual. The Edcon group’s business rescue has taken considerable volumes out of our business and we need to redirect capacity to PPE to maintain operations at a sustainable level.” Kingsgate Clothing is a family-owned business that recently celebrated its sixty-fifth birthday. The company produces 95% of its clothing in Southern Africa. It supplies clothing lines to retail outlets such as Mr Price, PEP and Jet, while it also provides various government departments with uniforms, linen and patient wear. The group employs about 1 000 people directly, as well as roughly 5 500 people indirectly, for example, by outsourcing to a number of other factories, as well as to printing and embroidery businesses.

Kia ora,Welcome to Friday's Economy Watch where we follow the economic events and trends that affect New Zealand.I'm David Chaston and this is the International edition from Interest.co.nz.Today of general decline everywhere.First, the big news is that real American gross domestic product decreased at an annual rate of -33% in the second quarter of 2020. That is on top of the first quarter's real GDP decrease of -5.0% annual rate. In current dollars that means that US GDP fell from $22.3 in 2019 and is now running at an annual rate of just US$19.4 tln. The missing -US$2.9 tln in annualised activity is a world scale economic calamity of the first order and neither China nor the EU nor Japan nor any combination of them can make that up in any sustained way without artificial stimulus. The ripple effects are global. About the only 'good' bit is that the decline was slightly less than analysts were expecting. Actual Q2-2020 US GDP is -9.6% lower than Q2-2019 GDP, itself a reduction of -US$560 bln.As if that wasn't bad enough, jobless claims rose by another +1.4 mln last week and now just over 17 mln people are on these benefits. From August, increasing numbers will start to fall off assistance as their claim eligibility ends. This will build during the month and into September to become the dominant social metric.Mexico also reported Q2-2020 GDP and it was -10.5% lower than for Q2-2019, or -17.3% below Q1-2020. These results were about as expected.Chinese companies reported their overseas acquisitions tumbled by -40% in the first half of the year to the lowest level in a decade.Singaporean business confidence was less bad in July than in the previous survey but it is still deeply negative. Interestingly, it is tougher in their service sector than their factory sector.Hong Kong reported that their Q2 GDP was -9% lower in 2020 than for the equivalent 2019 period. And their retail sales were -25% lower in June 2020 than June 2019In Australia, more than half a million people are estimated to have "completely cleaned out" their superannuation savings as the pandemic crisis bites, and their Treasury predicts workers will withdraw a total of AU$42 bln under their new early-access scheme. But their tax authorities are watching closely to ensure the claims of hardship are genuine. There are large tax penalties for those making invalid claims. The S&P500 is down -0.5% so far today little-affected by the GDP result. The FAANGs all report earnings today after the closing bell. Overnight, European markets all fell very heavily, some as much as -3%. Yesterday, Shanghai ended down -0.2%, Hong Kong was down -0.7%, and Tokyo ended down -0.3%. The ASX200 rose +0.7% (on strong mining prospects) and the NZX50 rose +0.8% in a late final burst. The latest compilation of COVID-19 data is here. The global tally is 17,109,000 and that is up +289,000 since this time yesterday. Global deaths reported now exceed 669,000 (+7,000).A quarter of all reported cases globally are in the US, which is up +77,100 from this time yesterday to 4,603,600. US deaths are now just over 154,600 and a death rate of 467/mln (+5/mln). And the net number of people actively infected in the US rose +33,000 yesterday to 2,193,300.In Australia, there have now been 16,303 cases reported, a record +721 since this time yesterday, and still very much concentrated in Victoria but also small pockets in both Sydney's suburbs and now Queensland. Their death count is up to 189 (+13). Their recovery rate has slipped to under 60%. There are now 6356 active cases in Australia and almost all are community transfer. The UST 10yr yield is down -4 bps to just on 0.54% and equal to its record low. This is one market that is reacting to the US GDP result. The gold price is down -US$9 today to US$1,953/oz.The World Gold Council released its Q2-2020 gold demand results. That showed jewellery demand down -53% year-on-year from Q2-2019, coin and bar demand down -32% on the same basis, and industrial demand down -18%. Even central bank demand slumped -50% on this basis. But much of this general decline was made back by EFT speculators who piled in in a serious was with +300% higher demand. Overall demand was down -11%. Supply however fell -15% which helped keep prices up.Oil prices are lower today by about -US$1/bbl. They are now just under US$40/bbl in the US and the international price is just at US$42.50/bbl.And the Kiwi dollar will also start today little-changed at 66.7 USc. Against the Australian dollar we are firmer than yesterday at 93 AUc. Against the euro we are also soft at 56.4 euro cents. That means our TWI-5 has slipped to 69.7 but still in the general range we have been in, all year. The bitcoin price is also soft, down -1.5% since this time yesterday to US$11,047.You can find links to the articles mentioned today in our show notes. And get more news affecting the economy in New Zealand from interest.co.nz.Kia ora. I'm David Chaston. We will do this again, on Monday.
