Welcome to Part 2 of our deep dive into Live Aid as it turns 40. In Part 1 we spoke about the creation and buildup to the event on July 13, 2025 at Wembley Stadium in London and JFK in Philly. It was billed as a legendary fundraiser to support starving people in Africa organized by Bob Geldof which attracted some of the greatest artists of several generations. On our second installment, we break down the live acts throughout the day in the US and during the prime afternoon and evening times in the UK. While some stand out fo incredible performances (The Wolf was partial to Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders among them), some top of the charts performers hit some bad notes (yes, we're going there). And of course, we discuss the infamous Led Zeppelin reunion and interview with Alan Hunter. Part 3 will be released July 13, 2025 to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Live Aid. Transcription / Notes JEFFREY EPSTEIN, PAM BONDI AND THE MORAL ROT OF AMERICA Hello, this is Darrell Castle with today's Castle Report. This is Friday the 11th day of July in the year of our Lord 2025. I will be talking about the case of Jeffrey Epstein and the memo recently released by the Trump Administration which asserted that Epstein killed himself and that he had no client list, and no blackmail. Was that memo truthful or just a pack of lies. It's pretty clear that the evidence supports the pack of lies position, but we the public are supposed to believe those lies or at least pretend that we do. So, there were no pedophiles who happened to also be rich, famous, and powerful. There were no blackmail examples for us to consider and we have a bogus video not even on the correct floor where his body was found to tell us there was no murder. Yes, the saga of JFK and the Warren Commission Report continues and we the people are expected to look the other way for political reasons or to prevent the embarrassment of the country. I suppose it would be embarrassing if information were to be released showing that the CIA along with foreign intelligence agencies conspired to kill President Kennedy or that Jeffrey Epstein was a CIA asset. The explanation for Epstein is so ridiculous that almost no one could believe it but they tell it with a straight face. I don't know whether they think that due to decades of life in their schools we are too stupid to understand or whether we are so morally corrupt that we just don't care. O.K. having laid the groundwork for my outrage let me get into why I'm outraged and why you should be as well. First of all, I think Pam Bondi is a fine prosecutor and an excellent choice for attorney general. I was happy when Trump nominated her because I was aware of her record as the Florida Attorney General. Her intelligence and hard work were often disguised from adversaries by her physical beauty.  I don't want to be forced to alter my opinion of her but I do have some questions that need answers. Pam are you now and have you been lying to the American people about the Epstein matter or were you just confused. No, I don't think you were confused because you are just too smart for that so the question becomes did you willfully and knowingly lie to us because if you did you should be bothered by the hypocrisy. Were you ordered to lie and invent that nonsense memo that went out because it was an obvious pack of lies. If you were ordered to lie or just expected to lie out of loyalty I understand that. I don't agree with you but I understand. Most of us at some point in our lives are faced with a decision about loyalty to the one who appointed us or to a higher one. If you lied out of loyalty as I said I understand but I am very disappointed because you lied to the most loyal supporters of the President's agenda. There is no going back from this story and I am sorry for what it has done to you and to your career, nevertheless we the people deserve the truth although we no longer expect it. We don't expect it because we accept the vile corruption at every stage of government as normal. We aren't even bothered by it anymore because it's just, well, normal. See Pam, that's what makes the systemic corruption of today much worse than the systemic corruption of yesteryear. When JFK was assassinated we were naïve about corruption and we didn't understand that the government of this country had changed drastically. When we discovered that we were supposed to believe that a lone nut killed the President we did believe it and when we learned that was a pack of lies something died inside us. Pam, you and the administration you work for had a chance to change all that.

This week, Zachary hosts a conversation with Jeremi and Dr. Peniel Joseph about his new book, Freedom Season, which describes the pivotal significance of 1963 in the Civil Rights Movement, highlighting key events such as the Birmingham protests, the March on Washington, the Birmingham church bombing, and the assassination of JFK. This week, instead of the usual poem, we set the scene with an audio excerpt of Martin Luther King Jr. reading from his "Letter from Birmingham Jail." Peniel Joseph holds a joint professorship appointment at the LBJ School of Public Affairs and the History Department in the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Austin. He is also the founding director of the LBJ School's Center for the Study of Race and Democracy. His career focus has been on “Black Power Studies,” which encompasses interdisciplinary fields such as Africana studies, law and society, women's and ethnic studies, and political science. Prior to joining the UT faculty, Joseph was a professor at Tufts University, where he founded the school's Center for the Study of Race and Democracy to promote engaged research and scholarship focused on the ways issues of race and democracy affect people's lives. In addition to being a frequent commentator on issues of race, democracy and civil rights, Joseph wrote the award-winning books “Waiting ‘Til the Midnight Hour: A Narrative History of Black Power in America, “Dark Days, Bright Nights: From Black Power to Barack Obama," and “Stokely: A Life" as well as “The Black Power Movement: Rethinking the Civil Rights-Black Power Era” and “Neighborhood Rebels: Black Power at the Local Level.”" His most recent book is "Freedom Season: How 1963 Transformed America's Civil Rights Revolution."

John lives in Alamo, Tennessee, about 75 miles northeast of Memphis. John was a senior in high school in the spring of 1968 when Martin Luther King was assassinated. After high school, John attended Memphis State University, obtaining his master's degree while living in Memphis. From the start, John had inside information about the situation with James Earl Ray. Harry S. Avery, John's maternal Great Uncle was Commissioner of Corrections at the time in 1969. Prior to this, Mr. Avery had been a government arson investigator for years, started an independent MLK investigation. Mr. Avery had worked with the prosecution on the Jimmy Hoffa Chattanooga jury tampering case. John's curious and inquisitive uncle, Harry Smith Avery died December 18, 1989 at Dandridge, Tennessee. Before Harry died, John had several talks about Harry's investigation into James Earl Ray. Harry was fired by Governor Buford Ellington after two months of his investigating. James entered Brushy Mountain Correction Complex on March 21, 1970. As a reporter for the Oakridger, a daily paper, John was able to interview James Earl Ray Twice in person at Brushy Mountain. You wouldn't hire James Earl Ray to wash your car, he would mess something up. James was not a mastermind. When met Ray, James had already been in prison for 12 years or so, becoming well read with his excess time in prison. Even with all of the reading James had done while in prison, John could still tell he wasn't highly intelligent. Len and John discuss the catalyst that inspired John to start an independent investigation into MLK's murder. John's uncle had overheard a phone conversation while at the Govenor's office, when James Earl Ray was being discussed. This conversation was heard BEFORE James Earl Ray had the opportunity to go to court and make the guilty plea. The person in the office was reassuring the person on the phone that James was going to plead guilty, with no trial. Who was the person on the other end of the phone? The Attorney General? It was definitely a person of authority. While attending to his laundry one day, an interview with Gerald Posner was aired, filled with disinfo, infuriating John. Len created "50 Reasons For 50 Years" video series for the 50th anniversary of JFK's assassination for the same reason. Since the early 90's, John knew that it was in his future to write a book regarding what he knew about MLK's murder. The first time John met James at Brushy Mountain in the early 90's, it was a contact visit, where they shook hands. It appeared as if there wasn't a serious amount of observation to their meeting by security, communication was easy. James Earl Ray gave John 2 cassette tapes, that James had had in his jail cell for the past 12 years in his cell. These recordings were of John's uncle, Harry Smith Avery! Avery had been interviewed by Ray's wife! In the recordings, Avery talks about suspicious letters that came in to Ray, including one with a McGill University letterhead! It was clear to John that the assassination was being orchestrated by military intelligence. McGill = MKUltra Ray identified the person who directed him and gave him money. The government denies the existence of Ray having a handler. Who was Raoul? What is Raoul's true identity? Clearly both the Canadian and American governments know. Len and John agree that if you look at any one aspect of this case, it falls apart!

This is Part 13 of the mini-series that covers the story of Bobby Baker. Today we continue  to tell the story of Don Reynolds, the Maryland insurance broker who who made Bobby Baker a nominal partner in his insurance agency and engaged in other business with Baker. Today, we tell the story of the performance bond related to the D.C. stadium build, with Baker's portion of the commissions  disguised and paid in the form of a loan to avoid questions surrounding his conflict of interest in the commission split. Baker  would receive $4,000 from Reynolds commissions which totaled   around $10,000.   Baker's decision  to have the receipt of his  portion of the commissions take the form of  a loan from Reynolds to Baker, was an attempt at  further obscuring the nature of the payment and also turning it into a  a scheme to avoid income taxes on the receipt. In its ugliest vernacular, it was simply a kickback that Baker received related to the commissions on the performance bond insurance premium. The story gets more complicated as Reynolds agrees to overbill on the insurance bond and collect an additional $35,000 over the original price of the bond, disguising what turned out to be an illegal campaign contribution to the Democratic party.  $25,000 of that amount was allegedly  intended to be delivered to the Kennedy Johnson campaign fund but was never proven to have arrived there. This mini-series is part of a larger series covering Billy Sol Estes, Mac Wallace, Bobby Baker and other members of Johnson's Texas inner circle. All of these men were quite intertwined around Johnson at the time of the assassination. They were involved in circumstances that were closing in on Johnson too and that provided him great motive in the killing of the President. The story is extraordinary. We began the story of Don Reynolds in Episode 11 whereby Reynolds crafts an arrangement whereby Baker became a nominal VP of his insurance agency (with a non-voting stock interest) in exchange for Baker's help in expanding  sales and profits. Commission payments for referrals were also a part of the deal.  Reynolds would become friends with Baker and travel on lavish junkets to New York and Miami, living the high life all while cultivating clients made available through Baker's contacts. His tight relationship would lead him to be a bagman too for Baker.  Once these and other scandals were  revealed during investigation by the Senate Rule and Administration committee's investigation and the work of senator John Williams,  the scandal threatened to take the Vice President down politically. Perhaps, if the tragic events of November 22nd had not occurred, these events might have sent Johnson to jail as other indiscretions were also being investigated. Reynolds testimony regarding the stereo and the television advertising kick backed to Johnson  were taking place in closed session at a senate office building literally at the moment that the shots rang out in Dealey Plaza.  Informed of the president's assassination as the meeting was finishing up, Reynolds shook with the gravity of the situation and the fact that the man he had just accused of engaging in graph...Lyndon Johnson, had just become the most powerful man in the world.  Rumors of Johnson's involvement in the assassination began to swirl almost immediately after the President's  murder and there is a defined school of thought within the JFK assassination research community that staunchly believes in Johnson's involvement. His involvement  in both the assassination and its cover up.
