Live Audio Play Reading of The Yellow Line, a New Play by Caitlin Gurtner Produced by Sandcastle Theater Company Directed by Zouapa Lor Stage Management & Production Support by Ariella Wolfe, and J. Lyn Monks CAST JORDAN: Shoana T. Hunt SAWYER: Sarah Palmero CHRIS: Margarita Jamero STAGE DIRECTIONS: Caitlin Gurtner ABOUT THE PLAY Jordan faces the line between reality and delusion, questioning the liminal space they live in while interacting with Sawyer and Chris. A choice has to be made under the differing opinions of the two as Jordan explores what it means to exist under a starry night sky in a society that doesn't quite understand. CONTENT WARNING PG13; mature language, depiction of a mental health crisis PLAYWRIGHT'S NOTE One of the reasons playwriting is unique and wonderful is that it's the first step in a big process. This workshop is the moment where the rest of the team joins, and you see what happens when your play is given to the people who can do something amazing with it. This play was a product of my tired and frustrated brain as I neared the end of my college career. It was a way for me to talk about things that I thought only made sense to me. Now, bringing this story to others, seeing them resonate with the characters, is both mind boggling and beautifully comforting. – Caitlin Gurtner Learn more: www.sandcastletheaterco.org/meet-the-team DIRECTOR'S NOTE I like the mental awareness of THE YELLOW LINE and how it plays with somewhat abstract ideas about being a person, existing, and the liminal space. I'm excited about hearing the contrasting characters and how they interact with one another coming to life. – Zouapa Lor SPECIAL THANKS Congregation Bet Haverim, Polly Klaas Community Theater, UC Davis Department of Theatre & Dance. Dive into the growing opposition to the light rail extension of TriMet's Yellow Line into Vancouver. Local leaders question its financial viability and transparency. Explore this detailed discussion at https://www.clarkcountytoday.com/news/camas-city-council-member-joins-opposition-to-funding-for-light-rail-extension-operations-and-maintenance on www.ClarkCountyToday.com #lightrailfunding #localnews #ClarkCountyWa
At a December 17th meeting of the Joint Legislative Committee on the Interstate Bridge Replacement, legislators were promised that the proposed light rail service to Vancouver, WA would arrive every 6.7 minutes during weekday rush hours. We don't need to guess whether this forecast will be wrong. We already know it. Before the Yellow Line opened in 2004, TriMet promised that peak-hour trains would arrive every 7.5 minutes by 2020. That never happened. In fact, the Yellow Line only arrives every 15 minutes, 50% below what was promised. Not only did TriMet planners give the wrong forecast for levels of service, they weren't even close on the ridership estimates. TriMet predicted 35,320 weekday riders on the Yellow Line by 2020. Actual ridership is 10,611, 70% below the forecast. The transit agency for Vancouver already offers express bus service to Portland, which is a superior ride compared to light rail. Spending $3 billion to add rail will be a waste of money. The legislature should cut light rail from the project while it still can.

Federal investigators are so far saying a “design issue” caused the Yellow Line crash, but a full investigation still needs to be conducted. "'Nightmare (behind the yellow line)' is the story of someone waiting at a train station for a lover who will never arrive. I interpreted the theme "music for sleep" by playing with the presence of nightmares. The original sound has been slightly modified to accentuate the haunting ambiance and melancholic tones of the composition, used to set a sombre mood that ideally, resonates with the listener's subconscious mind during sleep. The anticipation and yearning conveyed through the narrative become intertwined with the unsettling nature of a recurring nightmare, the fear that the loved person will never arrive. The minimalistic soundscape evokes the depths of one's subconscious fears and inner anxieties, amidst the haunting landscape of dreams." Distant Canadian train reimagined by Cristina Marras. Good Friday Morning, Folks! It's me, Toby Knapp and I've gottta say this has been one long week, but the great thing about long weeks is they end! This morning, I brought in a box of Topps Baseball Cards in the hopes Chilli could bring some luck to my hunt for a Shohei Ohtani baseball card. See, my dad wanted to find one of these cards really badly while we were at Spring Training, and, alas, we did not. So earlier this week, I bought two boxes online. I opened the first one alone last night... and No Shotime. And so, the hunt continued through the show today. Also, Chilli thought it would be a good idea for us to jump into this contest with METRO where if we wrote a Haiku, we might be able to win a VIP ride on the soon-to-be reopened Yellow Line. There's just this one little detail we may have left out: What if we didn't exactly write the Haiku ourselves?? And, Chilli is obsessed with making her own smoothies at home now, you know, to save money because some of these smoothie places charge an arm-and-a-leg for the fruitfully goodness. Convinced she can do it better at home - and perhaps even healther - she started talking with me about what she would put into a smoothie. One ingredient made me have this visceral reaction, and no, it's not eggs. What is she putting in this smoothie? Will she bring some in for me to taste, and more importantly, what will I do if I taste this "thing" she adds to these smoothies? We'll find out... and when you hear what she's adding to the smoothie, I bet you'll have some thoughts on this, too! Did we find Ohtani? What do our Haikus sound like? It's all here in today's podcast of the full show, so sit back, adjust your airpods, turn us up and let us get ready fo' the weekend my peeps! With Toby Knapp (@tobyknapp - Insta) and Chilli Amar (@ChilliAmar - Insta, iHeartRadio's 97.1 WASH-FM DC.

It was a cold and snowy day in Washington, DC as passengers boarded the narrow-body Air Florida 737. The plane was sprayed with de-icing fluid while waiting at the gate, but a series of errors before the plane reached the runway, and more errors on the runway, sealed the fate of this flight. Just moments after take-off, the plane fell from the sky and crash-landed on the 14th Street Bridge and then plunged into the icy Potomac River. Only five passengers and one crew member survived the crash, while four motorists were killed on the bridge. Following the crash, heroes emerged with names still recognized today. What went wrong with Flight 90? Was it a mechanical failure? Could the weather be blamed? What role did the flight crew play in this disaster? And was the nearby train derailment, where three people died, related to the plane crash? This episode of Radar Contact Lost has the answers. Note: None of the sound effects in this episode are from the actual Air Florida crash.

The Twins head to the desert and come up with just one win in a three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks, a disappointing outcome in the eyes of David and Dan. They look back at a homer-heavy series at which Dan was in attendance for all three games. Dan offers his assessment of the gameday experience at Chase Field in Phoenix, and David asks the elephant-in-the-room question about why exactly there is a line across the centerfield wall. They dissect Rocco Baldelli's use of the team's pitchers and wonder whether Devin Smeltzer is going to turn it around next series after a rough Game 1 in Arizona. They also consider the Twins' roster options whenever Jorge Polanco comes back, and David asks whether the Twins should get the gang back together, starting with the recently released Sergio Romo. In fact, just before the pandemic hit, Yellow Line ridership was more than 25% lower than where it was projected to be for 2020. Following the COVID-19 drop-off in ridership, TriMet now doesn't expect transit ridership to hit pre-pandemic levels until sometime after 2045. Because of low ridership, TriMet is failing to abide by its commitments to service frequency. TriMet promised the Federal Transit Administration that Yellow Line trains would arrive every ten minutes during peak hours and every 15 minutes off-peak. Instead, Yellow Line trains run every 15 minutes during peak periods and every 30 minutes during other parts of the day. Despite this consistent underperformance, TriMet has continued to push for expansion of the Yellow Line, with plans to extend the line into Washington State across the proposed new I-5 bridge. Is slow, low-ridership light rail really the best usage of lane space on the proposed I-5 bridge? Or, should the new bridge instead expand lane capacity for trucks and cars usage to reduce congestion on the region's freeways? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/coffeewithcascade/message
