He's also served as Ambassador of Sudan to Nordic Countries, Canada, and the United States and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. Francis has written and edited dozens of books, including “War of Visions: Conflict of Identities in the Sudan.” Jamie and Dr. Deng discuss conflict and crises in Sudan and South Sudan. Dr. Deng explains issues in South Sudan and offers what he believes are solutions to improve the lives of people in the country. Jamie asks him about the civil war in Sudan. Dr. Deng says there are flaws in how the international community approaches the conflict in the country, and he argues for a more nuanced approach to finding a resolution. Dr. Deng also offers criticism of UN peacekeepers and the role they've played in the region.

Giovanni Marbese, or Gio, as I know him, is an Italian food anthropologist and owns Tone Bread Lab, an experimental bakery in Milan. It's a funny story how I know this guy. I was staying in Milan, close to the bakery, a year ago and a friend recommended I go there for breakfast. I went in and ordered a coffee and a pastry and there was one table open to sit and I sat down and the Slippurinn book I co-authored just happened to be sitting there. Aside of it being me that sat there, this is an Icelandic cookbook on the table of a bakery in Milan. Think about that. Then, I was in Iceland this past July and I went to Slippurinn, the restaurant from the book, and Gio was there and I got to know him better. He has done a lot of work with food in the Nordic region, so it wasn't that odd that he was there, but, another strange coincidence. Anyway, Gio has worked with Slow Food within the Ark of Taste project for years. It's an online catalogue of endangered food around the world, and he was also co-coordinator of the Nordic Countries communities of Slow Food. He has come up with all sorts of creative ideas about safeguarding cuisines and disappearing ingredients and foods that are disappearing. Tone is an offshoot of that. He regularly uses endangered ingredients and inside the bakery he has this traditional Georgian bread oven, called Tone. We discuss everything he has going on at the bread lab, as well as everything else he has going on, like the Milano Food Project, Phantom Bread and Food Emotions.Read more at New Worlder.

The blasphemous conference "Jesus loves LGBTQ," that was held recently at a large Church in Stockholm, challenges us all to do something about the creeping development of moral decay that has taken place even among Christians over the past 50 years. We need to help each other set a new standard, to create a new trend of sexual purity and holiness by the standard of heaven, that can hasten the coming of Messiah. This will require a change of lifestyle in obedience to God's Word, to not conform to the world (Romans 12:2) and "fleeing sexual immorality" (1 Corinthians 6:18)! *** PRAYER TOPICS 1. Pray for a longing among Christians to set a new trend and become examples of purity and holiness! ”Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God” (2 Pet 3:11-12). 2. Pray that Christians no longer conform to the world! ”Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect” (Rom 12.2). 3. Pray that Christians flee from everything associated with sexual immorality! “Flee from sexual immorality” (1 Cor 6:18)! 4. Pray for the mobilization of ten thousand prayer warriors for revival in the Nordic Countries! ”Has not the Lord, the God of Israel, commanded you, ‘Go, gather your men at Mount Tabor, taking 10,000 from the people of Naphtali and the people of Zebulun. … Zebulun is a people who risked their lives to the death; Naphtali, too, on the heights of the field” Jdg 4.6; 5.18. *** LARS' WEBSITE: http://larsenarson.com *** SUPPORT THE MINISTRY: http://thewatchman.org/donate *** JOIN the Nordic prayer movement https://Norden714.com *** SUBSCRIBE YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/LarsEnarson... *** iTunes PODCAST: https://itunes.apple.com/se/podcast/l... *** ODYSEE VIDEO: https://odysee.com/@LarsEnarson #Prayer #Preaching #BibleTeaching #prophecy #revival #EndTimes #Israel #Jerusalem #LarsEnarson #watchman #Sweden #Scandinavia #norden714 #Jesus #Christ #Yeshua #Bible #bibleproject #prayeralert #schoolofprayer

A new Justice Visions miniseries on historical truth-seeking initiatives in the (post-)colonial state, will look into formal and informal truth initiatives in European countries dealing with settler and overseas colonial legacies. In this miniseries co-hosted by Dr. Cira Pallí-Asperó, we pick up on some of these debates to explore how different actors are engaging in truth-seeking initiatives and what this means for the domain of transitional justice. In this episode, we talk with Dr. Malin Arvidsson, a commissioner at the Swedish Truth and Reconciliation Commission for Tornedalians, Kvens and Lantalaiset, about a number of state-sanctioned historical truth-seeking initiatives that have taken place in the Scandinavian context. The goal of these commissions was to examine the impact that assimilation policies of the Scandinavian welfare states had on indigenous peoples in those countries. The colonial past is a corrosive component in the relations between the former colonizing powers and their colonial subjects, particularly over issues of historical responsibility of recognition and redress of colonial injustices. Although the demands to redress historical injustices linked to colonialism are not new; since the Black Lives Matters movement took over the streets in 2020, they have taken a renewed spotlight in the public and political debate. Within this framework, the transitional justice paradigm is increasingly being used to think about historical injustices, as historical truth-seeking initiatives within the post-colonial context (both formal and informal) are increasingly using the logic and rhetoric of transitional justice; for instance, by systematically referring to its core objectives in their mandates (i.e., truth, accountability, reparation, non-recurrence). But how are these transferred to the post-colonial context? and what are the implications thereof? As Malin points out, this raises key questions: “(…) if you talk about historical injustices in this long-time perspective, what are even the actors that we are looking at, because for example, the state and the Church of Sweden has an intertwined history.” Awaiting the results of this ongoing process, one of the main contributions foreseen is building a strong archive that is essential for follow up by policy makers, civil society: “what will remain is an archive of interviews, research reports (…) that have been commissioned by the commission that can serve as a basis for further advocacy and claims-making.”

An ageing population, immigration, tax evasion and incoming foreign workers are frequently cited as threats to the Nordic Model. The universal welfare state is built upon citizens and the state fulfilling their particular roles: the state providing childcare, healthcare and benefits in return for people working and paying their taxes ('the social contract'). But don't these roles require a lot of national regulation? This week I had the absolute privilege of speaking to Thomas Bjorkman, entrepreneur, businessman, author and also the founder of the Oak Island retreat in Sweden.Tomas explains how Oak Island is modelled on the original retreats that were state funded across the Nordic Countries at the turn of the last century - also captured in his book ‘The Nordic Secret’. It was these retreats that helped instil the human capabilities within the population to face adversity and uncertainty at that time, and which saw those Nordic countries turn around and flourish socially and economically.Tomas then introduces the 5 clusters of human capabilities that are key to facing the unknown, complex and volatile world we’re faced with – Openness, Perceptive Taking, Sense Making, Inner Compass and Compassion. In this conversation, we go on to explore the depths of the shifts that we're experiencing right now to our collective imaginary in an interconnected world and how this can only be facilitated, it cannot be managedThe focus of this conversation will be challenging to your own sense making and aspects of how you construct reality for yourself. Yet despite this Tomas points to a way forward that is beautifully grounded and human.

After successfully building businesses over the last twenty-plus years, Marcia Moran thought she had life by the tail. Little did she know what was in store. Marcia has written over fifty business plans, and helped entrepreneurs strategize over how to differentiate their companies in changing environments. After helping other entrepreneurs start their companies, she decided to found her own business consulting practice, Performance Architect, in 2012 and co-founded Positive Business DC that same year. She suffered a major stroke in 2014. Marcia applied her skills in planning and strategy as she strived to become whole. She never gave up. Over time she learned to walk again, but Marcia struggled with aphasia, a language disorder. She joined Toastmasters International® hoping to regain her speaking abilities. It helped some, but in August 2017 she discovered a technological breakthrough that minimized her speaking disability. She then pushed beyond her comfort zone to become a Toastmasters International Club Officer in 2017, then Area Director in 2019. Marcia created Stroke FORWARD because she felt there is a need to share hope to stroke survivors and their caretakers. Learning to become her own health advocate one step a time and exploring holistic methods for healing are keys to her recovery. Marcia speaks and shares her message of hope, inspiration, healing, and a way forward as she goes across the country. She welcomes new opportunities to help individuals affected by major health crises move ahead. Marcia lives with her husband Jim, two very loud cats, and two birds near Washington, DC. Jim played a role of caretaker and advocate. His observations and experiences are also captured in Stroke FORWARD. On weekends, Marcia, Jim, and the cats go to Deep Creek, Maryland where Marcia paints watercolors. In the evening Marcia and Jim sit out on the deck and watch fireflies flit by. Marcia holds a B.S. in Political Science with a magna cum laude from the University of North Dakota and a Master’s in Business Administration, from Chapman University, in California. A woman of many talents, she attended school in Sandefjord, Norway to study art. She also earned a certificate in Well-being Foundations of Personal Transformation from the Personal Transformation and Courage Institute in Virginia.

Many have highlighted the need for equity and justice in the field of foreign aid and humanitarian assistance. Local civil society organizations (CSOs) or non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are the frontline workers, risking their lives to access areas that well-funded international NGOs or even UN agencies cannot access. However, critics of the current system claim that the local NGO is often the sub-contractor and not a real partner that is allowed to contribute to the design of the project. If something goes wrong in the process, that local NGO is blacklisted, not the UN agency or the international NGO that received the funding. There are also other concerns. For example, the local NGO rarely receives a decent overhead rate or adequate funds to cover operational expenses. Local NGO staff are also often poached by multilateral institutions and international NGOs. All of this, some claim, results in a serious and systematic erosion of capacity in the Global South. And local knowledge and organizational capacity are often undervalued.Degan Ali has for long spoken out against systematic racism – the systemic structure of power, money, and decision-making that goes into the design of the international humanitarian and aid architectures. She has campaigned for a more just and dignified aid system that allows recipient countries to take back power. In a recent op-ed, she argued that “Talking about racism is not enough” and that “We can’t afford another 50 years of apathy in the international system.”Degan Ali is the Executive Director of Adeso, an organization that has been a leader globally and in Somalia for its work on cash transfers and environmental justice. At the start of the 20th century, the Nordic Countries were some of the poorest in Europe, with the lowest quality of life. By the end of the century they were some of the wealthiest and best places to live in the world.   Why and how? According to philosopher and social entrepreneur Tomas Björkman, the reason is that they paid attention to inner development, more than outer growth, in a huge cultural project of personal growth.   He argues that the pace of change that we are going through now requires a similar focus on the techniques of development.   You can also become a Rebel Wisdom member, for many benefits including our regular Q&As with the interviewees from our films, check out: https://www.rebelwisdom.co.uk/plans

In China, half a million companies have closed already. In the US, over 16 million people have filed for unemployment. David has done research on education for years and focused on educational inequalities, and especially how it is created when students move from one educational stage to the next one. The two of them discuss the Nordic educational system, what we know about educational inequalities both in the Nordic countries and outside of them, and how different school systems create different opportunities for students, for example regarding how long students can select different courses of study. These debates are especially relevant for Icelandic society at the moment as discussions about schools in general, and the conditions of the educational environment are heavily debated.

This book, edited by Dr. Gerstenfeld analyzes the attitude of Nordic countries toward Israel and the Jews. In the past decades, many pioneering efforts to demonize Israel have come from elites of the Nordic countries. The motifs of this anti-Israelism are similar to those of classic anti-Semitism, of which it is a new mutation. Such highly discriminatory prejudices are in particular expressed in Norway and Sweden by leading socialist and extreme-leftist politicians as well as journalists, clergy and so-called humanitarians. Behind the Nordic countries' appearance and oft-proclaimed concern for human rights lurk darker attitudes. This book deals mainly with lifting the humanitarian mask as far as Israel and Jews are concerned. This disguise hides many ugly characteristics such as false morality, a pretense of superiority, as well as profound humanitarian racism.
