President Trump is raging at GOP Senator Thom Tillis for telling the truth about the Senate version of his budget bill, which could knock 10 million people off Medicaid. Trump threatened him with a primary—whereupon he announced his retirement. Tillis has since been sharply criticizing the bill, noting it will bump 600,000 people from Medicaid in North Carolina. This reveals that when Trump vowed not to cut Medicaid, he was lying. But it also shows his much-advertised vow to remake the GOP as working class has proven a sham. By threatening Tillis, Trump has only drawn more attention to Tillis' truth-telling about his swindle of MAGA voters. And as Trump's own media allies are warning, this could put the Senate in play for Democrats. We talked to New Republic staff writer Timothy Noah, author of a new piece on GOP lying about the bill. He explains why Trump's Medicaid cuts are so indefensible, how they expose the core of Trump's “working class GOP” scam, and what it all means for Democratic hopes of regaining power. In these back-to-back segments, Tara dives into the public outrage over Idaho mass murderer Bryan Kohberger's plea deal, which spares him the death penalty despite overwhelming evidence of a brutal quadruple stabbing. She contrasts this with South Carolina's infamous serial killer Todd Kohlhepp, whose life sentences are a sobering reminder of how even the worst criminals can manipulate the system. The discussion then pivots to the alarming rise of Marxist ideology among Democrat leaders, spotlighting New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani's claim that prosecuting burglary is “violence” while the crimes themselves are not. Tara draws chilling parallels to China's Cultural Revolution, where oppressor-vs-oppressed narratives justified atrocities, warning that similar dual justice is taking root in America. She also exposes CNN's promotion of an app designed to help fugitives—including child rapists—evade ICE, underscoring how radical activism and political opportunism are dismantling public safety and the rule of law.

Robert Muchamore is behind some of the best novels available to young readers. His CHERUB series is credited with shaking up young adult literature, with realistic language, unconventionally sophisticated themes, and portrayals of heroes that challenge tradition. His latest series tackles concepts like corruption, protection rackets, and late-stage capitalist failure, with a twist on the tale of Robin Hood. The ninth book in the series, Robin Hood: Fury, Fire and Frost, was released earlier this month. Muchamore told Jack Tame he's always been fascinated by the tale of Robin Hood – this very old story that has been passed on and reimagined over and over again. “It's this kind of legend that's been around for so long, and everyone gets to interpret it in their own way.” His version of the story is a more modern take, set in a contemporary world with a 12/13-year-old Robin Hood that's very similar to most modern children. That similarity can be something of a challenge though, as Muchamore explains that over his twenty years of writing for children, it's becoming a bit harder to stay in touch with kids. “You really do have to be humble and talk to kids, and listen to what they say.” “Kids are quite ruthless,” Muchamore explained. “They're always quite ruthless if you get something wrong or you use a phrase that isn't hip anymore or something like that.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On Monday, President Donald Trump exploded in fury at reporters and news outlets for asking hard questions about whether the strikes really destroyed Iran's nuclear program completely, as he has proclaimed. And the questions are indeed mounting: There was clearly a lack of intelligence indicating that Iran's nuclear program posed an imminent threat. And reports have highlighted serious uncertainty about the whereabouts of Iran's enriched uranium. Trump thought he could bluff his way through this saga and count on Republicans to prevent any hard questions from being asked, but his rage at independent truth-seeking on the matter shows he knows he has a problem here. We talked to Democratic Congressman Sean Casten, who has forcefully argued that Trump committed impeachable offenses by bombing without congressional authorization. Casten goes deep on why Trump's unilateral action is so indefensible, why Trump is vulnerable to what the intelligence really shows, and why Congress has an urgent responsibility to step up. This week's episode feature EY Americas Metals & Mining Leader Theo Yameogo in conversation with host Adrian Pocobelli on the recent G7 summit that took place in Kananaskis, Alberta, from June 15-17, 2025. Yameogo notes that though critical minerals were at the top of the agenda, a disconnect remains between the vision of political leaders and the practical realities of the mining industry. He also discusses how the conversation revolved around economic security, and suggests as a possible solution that politicians invite mining company CEOs to the events in order to ground the discussion in what's actually possible, while the mining industry needs to better explain itself to politicians. All this and more with host Adrian Pocobelli. This week's Spotlight features Tim Clark, CEO and Director of Fury Gold Mines, as he discusses the company's high-grade gold projects in Nunavut and Quebec. Clark shares insights into Fury's exploration strategy and what sets their assets apart in two of Canada's most prospective mining regions. The Chicago Bears' offseason moves are sparking debate and motivation among players. CBS Sports' top 100 list sees Joe Thuney rise to #55, while Jaylon Johnson drops to #71. This shift could fuel Johnson's determination for a standout season under new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen. DJ Moore and Montez Sweat, both absent from the list, have something to prove in 2025. The Bears' revamped offensive line, featuring Thuney and Jonah Jackson, aims to transform a weakness into a strength. Meanwhile, D'Andre Swift is poised for a "situational bump" in scoring opportunities behind the improved O-line. Tune in for an in-depth analysis of how these developments could shape the Bears' upcoming season.Podcast Links: https://linktr.ee/ChiBearsCentralGet at us:Email: ChicagoBearsCentral@gmail.comTwitter:@ChiBearsCentralPhone: (773) 242-9336Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Sarah Seltzer, author of the book The Singer Sisters. Sarah is writer in New York City where she lives with her family surrounded by books, records, CDs—and a lot of snacks. Her debut novel THE SINGER SISTERS, about a family of folk rock singers who express their conflicts, secrets, betrayals and love through music, was published by Flatiron Books in summer 2024 and was a USA Today Bestseller! She is an editor at Lilith Magazine and has been a journalist for many big and small publications from Jezebel to the New York Times reporting on activism and culture, and writing essays, cultural criticism, and the occasional opinion piece. In my book review, I stated The Singer Sisters by Sarah Seltzer is a women's fiction with a dash of musical historical fiction thrown in for good measure. If you love a good family saga filled with generational expectations, family secrets, addictions, mental health issues, unplanned pregnancies, adoption, abortion, sexual orientation, and mother/daughter struggles, then this is the novel for you. The key players are Judie and her sister Sylvia, folk singers who made a name in the 1960s and Emma, who is Judie's daughter and wants to make her own musical mark in the world- along with a great cast of secondary characters who give the book a beautiful flavor. Against the backdrop of a musical family, we soon become embroiled in family drama. As Emma begins her journey toward fame, she learns lessons about herself, her life, and her mother. And despite this story being about a famous family, it could be about you. It seems that all families have their love, secrets, shame, and problems! I loved the nods to famous singers from the 1960s who were trying to be the next great Dylan as well as singers from the 1990s who were angry, combat boot wearing women trying to show the world how little had changed. But mostly, I loved moving along life with a family that was just trying to make it work. This is definitely a must-read! “Let me tell you about the very rich”, Scott Fitzgerald once said. “They are different from you and me”. One way they are different, the New Yorker staff writer Evan Osnos reports, is that they own yachts - very very big, expensive yachts. In The Haves and The Have-Yachts, Osnos' dispatches about today's ultrarich, he takes us on board these boats to reveal the obscenity of our new gilded age. From Mark Zuckerberg's obsession with Augustus Caesar to the thin-skinned grievances of figures like Marc Andreessen and Elon Musk, Osnos explores how the personal quirks and anxieties of just 19 American plutocrats - the 0.00001% - are now reshaping our entire society. He argues we're living in an era of "flamboyant oligarchy," where billionaires openly flaunt their wealth. Citing the extraordinary tableau of tech moguls lining up in homage to Trump at his inauguration, Osnos describes our age as "the complete and total fusion of politics and plutocracy in the United States." five key takeaways1. We're Living in an Era of "Flamboyant Oligarchy" Unlike past wealthy elites who stayed hidden ("a whale that never surfaces doesn't get harpooned"), today's billionaires openly compete for attention and flaunt their wealth, fundamentally changing the relationship between extreme wealth and public life.2. Just 19 People Could Control 18% of America's Wealth The 0.00001% - currently 19 Americans - control 1.8% of national wealth today. If current trends continue, this could reach 18% within 40 years, representing an unprecedented concentration of economic power in human history.3. Personal Quirks Have Massive Social Consequences Billionaires' individual obsessions and blind spots shape society at scale - from Facebook being blue because Zuckerberg is colorblind, to his Augustus Caesar fixation influencing how he thinks about power and empire-building.4. The Complete Fusion of Politics and Plutocracy Trump's inauguration, featuring tech moguls "lined up in homage," represents the total merger of political and economic power in America - what Osnos calls a "sultanistic oligarchy" where billionaires have elevated Trump to rule on their behalf.5. Billionaires Are Surprisingly Thin-Skinned and Aggrieved Despite their wealth, figures like Musk and Andreessen are easily offended and resentful about public criticism, leading them not to retreat but to actively seek control over politics and media to reshape the narrative in their favor. In a little-noticed rant, President Donald Trump furiously vowed on Truth Social that he will now carry out something called “remigration.” This idea is widely prevalent among global white nationalists who see it as key to their vile goal of building white ethnostates, so his open endorsement of it is significant. That comes as a U.S. Democratic Senator has been violently tackled and handcuffed, as Trump dispatches troops into Los Angeles, and as his Homeland Security secretary suggests those troops will “liberate” L.A. from its elected Democratic leadership. We talked to Will Sommer, senior reporter at The Bulwark and author of a great piece on the fresh levels of bloodlust all this is inspiring in MAGA media. We discuss the centrality of sadism and violent lawlessness to the MAGA movement—and why this is pushing us toward a watershed moment. Looking for More from the DSR Network? Bruce Lee got into so much trouble as a kid in Hong Kong that his parents banished him to the place of his birth: America. There he found all kinds of new trouble to get into. He upset kung fu traditionalists with his revolutionary style of fighting. He challenged long-held perceptions in racist Hollywood. He was an outsider determined to change the system the hard way – but did bringing about change cost Bruce Lee his life? In a powerful breakdown of recent events, Tara exposes a historic 48-hour period of global upheaval. As Israel targets and eliminates key Iranian Revolutionary Guard leaders, Tara explores the implications for freedom in Iran—and the echoes of Operation Ajax. Simultaneously, the U.S. House votes to defund USAID, NPR, and PBS, challenging the CIA's alleged role in financing foreign dictatorships and terrorist-linked NGOs. With billions funneled to adversaries like the Taliban and Hamas, Tara questions the Biden administration's priorities and celebrates what she sees as a turning point in the fight against global tyranny.
A deep dive into the upcoming "No Kings" protest in Spartanburg reveals what the host calls a deceptive grassroots image masking deeper ties to the Upstate South Carolina Democratic Socialists of America—and possibly beyond. With fiery rhetoric, the segment connects the event to a broader narrative of socialist infiltration, Democrat collaboration, and cartel-linked voter manipulation. From a controversial Instagram photo with Rep. Jim Clyburn to allegations of illegal immigrant-driven political schemes, the commentary builds to a national-level accusation: that recent cartel money laundering raids in L.A. struck the heart of a shadow operation funding Democrat campaigns. A hard-hitting exposé on political theater, media silence, and what the host warns could be the makings of a socialist dictatorship.

There are some indelible scenes inscribed forever into the psyche of the West, and the death of Dido is one of them. When William Congreve wrote that "Heav'n has no Rage, like Love to Hatred turn'd, Nor Hell a Fury, like a Woman scorn'd," he surely had in mind this archetype of all scorned women, the tragic heroine who stands in for every abandoned lover and for an entire civilization. Aeneas--and Rome--must leave her ruthlessly in the dust. But no one knows how to guilt trip you like your ex, and no one knows how to remonstrate with Rome like Carthage. All the same, in the end...destiny awaits. That is why the new State Department started out with only five employees while the Treasury Department had 40. When Alexander Hamilton became the nation's first Secretary of the Treasury, he immediately began to prepare a schedule of tariffs, along with excise taxes on such commodities as alcohol and tobacco. The Constitution forbids taxing the exports of any state, and so American tariffs have always been laid only on imports. Collectors were named for each port, and these were considered plum jobs because the collector got to keep the money, earning interest on it, until it was forwarded to the federal government a few times a year. Hamilton's tariffs, along with the refunding of the national debt and the establishment of a central bank, transformed the American financial situation. By the end of the 1790s, the U.S. had the best credit rating in Europe, its bonds selling over par. By 1800, federal revenues, a mere $3.7 million in 1792, had nearly tripled to $10.8 million. About 90 percent of that revenue came from tariffs—a ratio that wouldn't change much, except during the Civil War, for more than a century. *** Hamilton's tariffs had been solely for the purpose of raising re...

Joanna Coles welcomes back Michael Wolff, the bestselling author of “Fire & Fury” and “Siege,” to dissect the latest act of the Trump show—this time targeting elite American universities. Wolff unpacks the curious logic behind Trump's crusade against institutions like Harvard, suggesting it's less about policy and more about showmanship, headlines, and perhaps even old grudges. He weighs in on the persistent mystery surrounding Melania Trump's absence and the transactional nature of the Trump marriage, and explains why every public outing together appears to be the the result of a strict negotiation. Wolff also shares how Trump has transformed the Oval Office into a bizarre open-call performance space—complete with gold décor, packed audiences, and surprise video screenings for world leaders. Also, Wolff dives into why accusations of racism are viewed as a sort of badge of honor in the Trump world. Follow @MichaelWolffNYC for more of his inside takes. Hosted on Acast.
