Welcome to The Daily, where we go through the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every single day. We are taking a short break from Ecclesiastes to celebrate Easter with some unique devotionals to prepare our hearts for this week in history. Our text today is Revelation 22:12 Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. — Revelation 22:12 Easter Was Just the Beginning The resurrection wasn't the end of the story—it was the beginning of the greatest promise yet to be fulfilled. Jesus came once as a suffering servant, but He will return as a conquering King. The empty tomb wasn't just proof of His victory over death—it was a guarantee that He is coming again to set all things right. The world is broken. Sin still corrupts. Injustice still thrives. But this is not how the story ends. Just as surely as Jesus walked out of the grave, He will return in glory. Living in Expectation Jesus doesn't tell us exactly when He will return, but He does tell us how to live while we wait. “Stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming” (Matthew 24:42). “Be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matthew 24:44). “Blessed is the servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes” (Matthew 24:46). His return isn't just a distant hope—it's a daily call to action. We are not meant to sit idly by, waiting. We are called to live faithfully, serve boldly, and proclaim the gospel until He comes. Am I Living for His Return? If we truly believe Jesus is coming back, it should change how we live right now. Are we watching for Him, or are we distracted by the world? Are we living for eternity, or are we chasing temporary things? Are we sharing the gospel, knowing time is short? Many people spend their lives preparing for retirement but spend little time preparing for eternity. Which one matters more? The return of Christ isn't something to fear—it's our greatest hope. The King is coming, and He will make all things new (Revelation 21:5). #JesusIsComing, #EasterHope, #LiveForEternity ASK THIS: How does Jesus' return shape the way you live today? What distractions keep you from living in expectation of His coming? In what ways are you actively preparing for eternity? Who needs to hear the gospel from you before time runs out? DO THIS: Live each day with expectation and urgency, knowing Jesus could return at any moment. PRAY THIS: Lord, help me to live with my eyes fixed on eternity, never distracted by the temporary things of this world. May I stay faithful, bold, and ready for Your return. Amen. PLAY THIS: He Who Is To Come.

Now, we see through a glass darkly, but then: face to face. The world got a glimpse of Jesus Christ two thousand years ago.  He was Divine but also fully human, and, for our sake, He temporarily emptied Himself of the full weight of His glory. But one day we will see Him as He truly is, the glorified Jesus coming in the clouds to set things right once and for all. No one knows the day or the hour in which Jesus Christ will return. But we're closer to it now than we were yesterday! You know, the Bible tells us that Christ will return soon. He took a side trip through Samaria and then is making His way back down toward the Jordan River in order to pass through Jericho. * Last week, we saw Jesus address the question of the Pharisees regarding when the Kingdom of God would come. He told them that the Kingdom of God ultimately does not come with observation but rather God reigns in the hearts of individuals. Jesus then turned to present instruction to His disciples regarding some of the details of His return. * It is good to remember that there were no chapter breaks when Luke wrote. Peter speaks directly to us in everything he wrote, and we ask the Holy Spirit to bring these messages alive in our hearts today, just as He did for Peter and his original readers. The overall theme of this study has been learning how, as children of God, we can navigate this life in a world filled with evil, living and working in the Kingdom while patiently awaiting Jesus to take us home. We are provided with the precious promises of God’s Word to stand on and share, as God patiently desires everyone to be saved. He uses us in our circumstances to show the love and grace of Jesus. This teaching is from Matthew 25:31-46 with a review of Matthew 24:3, 30-31 with 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 Pastor Dodge opens on the topic of the “Rapture?” Yes, he adds the “?” as his purpose is to plant in our minds' questions that need to be addressed around the topic of the rapture. The word rapture is not used in the New Testament, but Pastor takes a look at the teaching in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 in the light of Jesus' teaching in Matthew 24:3, 30-31. Many believers hold to a quiet, unannounced, silent rapture that's only noticed after people have disappeared and that happens before the tribulation. The Rapture is a young teaching going back to the 1830s by John Darby who brought forth the teaching of the a Pre-Tribulational Rapture. Pastor believes in a rapture - but does not believe it will be silent or unseen, nor does he believe it will take place before Jesus' final appearing.  Why? He bases his view on scripture and draws a comparison between the two sets of verses using some of the original Greek words to impart additional insight that shows both are talking about the same day - the final coming of Christ. - Not a quiet or unobserved coming but rather something all will see and hear. Pastor then moves on with our progression through the book of Matthew by exploring Matthew 25:31-46 - the Parable of the Sheep and Goats. Pastor shares a personal story that taught him the difference between sheep and goats.  There are physical differences like sheep graze, eating grass and goats are browsers, eating anything and everything. Sheep tails go down, goat tails go up. But there are other significant differences: Goats butt heads to gain control, they go off on their own and are fiercely independent. Sheep view the shepherd as in control, follow him and thrive under his care and put themselves under the authority of the shepherd. As we dig deep into the differences between sheep and goats it becomes very apparent why Jesus chose the illustration of sheep and goats for this parable on His Return. Now let's examine the story. The parable tells how when Jesus returns He will separate the goats from the sheep.  Goats to His left and sheep to His right. He separates them not by what they have done but ON WHO THEY ARE and whose they are. The sheep belong to Him, the goats do not. After the separation, He talks about what each did or did not do showing the difference between those who have received Him as Savor and Lord (sheep) and those who have not (goats).  Followers of the Lamb  vs Those who are followers of the devil  To those on the right (where the sheep are - the ones who have put themselves under the authority of the Good Shepherd.) Jesus gives them an inheritance, eternal life forever with Him. To the goats on the left (those who did not hear or heed the Shepherd's voice) He commands them to depart from Him to eternal punishment. Noteworthy: Jesus does NOT say, “I know my goats and my goats know me.” He does Not say, “I lay down my life for my goats.” And He does NOT say, “I am the good goatherd.” Jesus is the Good Shepherd who knows His sheep and who laid down His life for His sheep and we, as His sheep, will follow Him. 1Corinthians 12:1: “Concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant.” 1Cor 12:31, 14:1: “Earnestly DESIRE the best gifts... Pursue love and DESIRE spiritual GIFTS.” We need to KNOW what God's Word teaches about these gifts, and this will cause us to DESIRE these gifts to operate in our lives, so that the Spirit may flow through us to bless others. When we DESIRE to be used in the gifts, we will make ourselves AVAILABLE to the Spirit, for Him to manifest Himself through us. “The Manifestation of the SPIRIT is given to EACH ONE for the profit of all. To one is given (1) the WORD of WISDOM through the Spirit, to another (2) the WORD of KNOWLEDGE through the same Spirit, to another (3) FAITH by the same Spirit, to another (4) GIFTS of HEALINGS by the same Spirit, to another (5) the WORKING of MIRACLES, to another (6) PROPHECY, to another (7) DISCERNING of SPIRITS, to another (8) different kinds of TONGUES, to another (9) the INTERPRETATION of TONGUES. The SPIRIT works all these things, distributing to each one individually as HE WILLS” (v7-11). *The 3 REVELATION GIFTS (Spirit of knowing): (1) The WORD of WISDOM, (2) the WORD of KNOWLEDGE, and (3) DISCERNING of SPIRITS. These involve supernaturally KNOWING things by the Spirit, that we could not know otherwise. *The 3 POWER GIFTS (Spirit of doing): (1) Special FAITH, (2) GIFTS of HEALINGS, and (3) WORKING of MIRACLES. These involve doing things by the supernatural power of the Spirit, that we could not do by our own faith or ability. *The 3 VOCAL, INSPIRATION or UTTERANCE GIFTS (Spirit of speaking): (1) Different kinds of TONGUES, (2) the INTERPRETATION of TONGUES, and (3) PROPHECY, when the Spirit speaks supernaturally thru someone, a message from God, under the Spirit's inspiration. CESSATIONISM is a false teaching that says these supernatural gifts are no longer for today, for God stopped giving them once all the apostles died and Scripture was completed. But the Bible says these gifts will continue until Jesus' Return. 1Cor 1:4-8: “you were enriched in everything by Him in all UTTERANCE (the utterance gifts) and all KNOWLEDGE (the revelation gifts), even as the testimony of Christ was CONFIRMED in (among) you (by the power gifts in signs, wonders and miracles), so that you come short in no GIFT, eagerly waiting for the Revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Thus, all the GIFTS will continue to enrich the Church until the END of the Church Age, when JESUS will be REVEALED to us in the Rapture. Jesus said: “these (supernatural) SIGNS will follow those who BELIEVE: in My Name they will cast out demons (a POWER gift); they will speak with new tongues (an UTTERANCE gift); they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover (all examples of POWER gifts)” (Mark 16:17-18). He also said: “he who BELIEVES in ME, the WORKS that I DO he will DO also; and greater works than these he will do” (John 14:12-13). He promises as we go in obedience to fulfil the Great Commission, He will be WITH US providing supernatural confirmation of the Gospel, and will continue to do this until the END of the CHURCH AGE (Matt 28:18-20). The Last Days started at Christ's Resurrection and continue throughout the Church Age into the Millennium. Acts 2:16-19: “This (outpouring of the Spirit) was spoken by Joel: “It shall come to pass in the LAST DAYS, says God, that I will POUR out of My SPIRIT on ALL FLESH; your sons and daughters shall PROPHESY (an UTTERANCE gift), your young men shall SEE VISIONS, your old men shall DREAM DREAMS (these are REVELATION gifts). And on My menservants and maidservants, I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall PROPHESY. I will show WONDERS in Heaven above and SIGNS in the earth beneath (POWER gifts).” The purpose of this outpouring and associated supernatural Signs is given in Acts 2:21. He then explained how Joel's Prophecy came into fulfilment in Acts 2:32-33, and how they could receive this promise of the Spirit and His gifts in their own lives in Acts 2:38. Based on Joel, he declared this Promise of the Spirit and His gifts is for ALL BELIEVERS in the LAST DAYS, including all future generations in the Church Age (Acts 2:39). So, to say the gifts are not for today contradicts God's Word. 1Corinthians 13:8-12: “Love never fails. But whether there are PROPHECIES, they will FAIL; whether there are TONGUES, they will CEASE; whether there is (a WORD of) KNOWLEDGE, it will VANISH away (the GIFTS will pass away one day). For we know IN PART and we prophesy IN PART. But WHEN that which is PERFECT has come, THEN that which is IN PART will be DONE AWAY....For NOW, we see in a mirror dimly, but THEN FACE to FACE. NOW I know IN PART, but THEN I shall KNOW (perfectly) just as I also am known.” As far as we are concerned, the gifts will only pass away WHEN we enter into PERFECTION (v10), which is defined as being when we see the Lord FACE to FACE at His Return - then we will have perfect knowledge (v12).

It may be nice to have a good public image. But ultimately, you're not defined by what people think you are, but by what God says you are. The Testament church in Sardis had something of a good reputation. By all appearances, it was vibrant and alive. But Jesus saw through the façade and in Revelation chapter three He calls them a dead church. What did He mean by that proclamation? What are the traits of a lifeless church? Now, we see through a glass darkly, but then: face to face. The essence of discipleship is a love relationship with the Lord - a true disciple loves Him and seeks to express that in his life. Discipleship begins with the Gospel - the message of God's awesome love for us (1John 4:19). We need a revelation of His love for us, to receive His love and then give our love to Him. Once our heart is converted to Christ, we become His disciple and our whole life becomes an expression of our love for Him (the motivation of a true disciple is love for Jesus). If we detach discipleship from love, it becomes a religion of laws and rules, with little value or joy. God is not calling us to legalism, but the obedience of love, a real love relationship with Him, where we do His commands, because we love Him (John 14:15). This starts by us receiving the Gospel, the Good News of His love for us. Our hearts are converted to fall in love with Jesus, when we see how much He loves us personally, and how much He suffered to save us from sin and hell to have our love forever (Hebrews 12:2). The essence of the Gospel is the revelation of God's love for us. Its purpose is to win our heart. Mary demonstrated what it is designed to achieve – the total conversion of our heart to Him, so we give Him our worship and love, fully and freely, surrendering our lives to Him (Mark 14:3-5,9). Once our heart is converted, we naturally move into discipleship - the outworking of this love-relationship with Christ in the details of our life. Thus, the Great Commission is in 2 parts: (1) preach the Gospel to convert the heart (Mark 16:15). Then, (2) discipleship (Matthew 28:19-20). The life of a disciple, following and obeying Christ, is all from love, to please and glorify Him. We want to be like Him, because we love Him. Without that love, flowing from a converted heart, it loses its meaning. The Gospel is all about God's everlasting love in Christ, which (1) began in eternity past, when He chose us, and (2) was manifested in history through Christ, and (3) came to us personally, when He called us to Himself through the Gospel and saved us, and (4) is continually sanctifying us by His Spirit within us, and (5) will ultimately be consummated in us, when we are glorified. To fully comprehend God's love for us, we must go back to eternity past. God, in His Omniscience, before the creation of the world, knew all possible worlds He could create, with free-will beings in His image, to be part of His forever family, who choose to trust and love Him. He knew all possible freewill beings that could exist, and their choices in all possible circumstances. Then He sovereignly chose to set His love on certain ones (from the infinite number who might possibly exist) that He wanted for Himself, and then brought forth this universe where these ones exist and are saved (this is election). If you exist and have received Jesus, you are part of His elect. He has chosen you for Himself, for He loved and chose you from eternity, and created this universe to bring you forth. That's how special you are to Him! (2Thessalonians 2:13-14, Ephesians 1:4). His election means He set His special love upon us (Deuteronomy 7:6-8), as a man chooses a woman, based on his love for her. Since He loves us, He chose us to exist and be saved and belong to Him forever. God's ELECTION is also called FORE-KNOWLEDGE (1Peter 1:2), which means He chose to KNOW us from BEFORE creation. He chose to create and know Jeremiah before he was conceived (Jeremiah 1:5). Likewise, from eternity He chose to know us, set His love on us, and have a love-relationship with us (Jeremiah 31:3). Romans 8:28-39 is a declaration of God's everlasting love for us. Romans 8:29-30 describe the 5 manifestations of God's love from eternity past to eternity future: “(1) Whom God FOREKNEW (chose, set His love upon), (2) He also PREDESTINED to be conformed to the image of His Son (to be glorified).” He planned our salvation, and then carried out that plan by Christ's life, death and resurrection): “Moreover, whom He PREDESTINED, these (3) He also (effectually) CALLED (to Himself through the Gospel), and whom He CALLED, these (4) He also JUSTIFIED (when we responded to His call and received Jesus, He demonstrated His love for us by forgiving us and declaring us righteous through His Blood, putting us into right relationship with Himself, qualifying us to receive every blessing), and whom He JUSTIFIED, these (5) He also GLORIFIED.” On the basis of our justification, His Holy Spirit came inside us to sanctify us (make us more like Jesus), transforming us from glory to glory, and that process will be completed at His Return, when we will be GLORIFIED. The fact these verses talk about God's relentless LOVE for us, in the past, present and future (the heart of the Gospel), is confirmed by the next verses (v31-39). God chose you and will glorify you. He has wonderful plans for you for all eternity. This is the Gospel of His love!
