A team at Tokyo University is developing robotic arms that people can wear. The devices could find use in areas from creative expression to search and rescue operations. Masahiko Inami is a professor who develops systems to expand human abilities. Inami's team at the University of Tokyo is designing the wearable robotic arms. Abstract: Motor contagions refer to implicit effects in one's actions induced by the observation of actions made by others. A plethora of studies over the last two decades have exhibited that observed, as well as predicted, actions can induce various kinds of motor contagions in a human observer. However, motor contagion has always been investigated in regard to different features of an observed action and it remains unclear whether the environment, in which an observed action takes place, modulates motor contagions as well. Here we investigated the effect of the observed environment on motor contagions using an empirical hand steering task in which the participants were required to move a cursor through visual channels of different shapes. We observed the movement time of observers to be influenced by both the movement of the cursor they observed, as well as the background (channel shape) in which the cursor movement was observed. Observers consistently made faster movements after observing steering movements in a 'narrowing' channel compared to a 'widening' channel. These results show a distinct effect of the environment, in which an observed action occurs, on one's own movement. Copy rights belong to original authors. Abstract: Sleep is essential, but animals may forgo sleep to engage in other critical behaviors, such as feeding and reproduction. Previous studies have shown that female flies show decreased sleep after mating, but our understanding of the process is limited. Here, we report that postmating nighttime sleep loss is modulated by diet and sleep deprivation, demonstrating a complex interaction among sleep, reproduction, and diet. We also report that female-specific pC1 neurons and sleep-promoting dorsal fan-shaped body (dFB) neurons are required for postmating sleep plasticity. Activating pC1 neurons leads to sleep suppression on standard fly culture media but has little sleep effect on sucrose-only food. Published connectome data suggest indirect, inhibitory connections among pC1 subtypes. Using calcium imaging, we show that activating the pC1e subtype inhibits dFB neurons. We propose that pC1 and dFB neurons integrate the mating status, food context, and sleep drive to modulate postmating sleep plasticity. Copy rights belong to original authors. 欢迎收听丽莎老师讲机器人，想要孩子参加机器人竞赛、创意编程、创客竞赛的辅导，找丽莎老师！欢迎添加微信号：153 5359 2068，或搜索微信公众号：我最爱机器人。丽莎老师讲机器人之人类真的可以长出三头六臂！机器人背包为人类提供额外的双臂。没错，它看起来就和听起来一样不可思议。当你放眼未来时，可能想到的会是一个科技高度发达，满大街都是飞行器的科幻世界。而一个来自日本庆应义塾大学的团队，他们畅想的是另一种可能的未来：人类和机器人相互合作，甚至合体。比如在我们的肩膀上就背负着一个动作灵巧的双肢机器人，以便在需要时提供帮助。目前该团队已经制作出了一个非常接近真实的原型。其实早在 2017 年，来自东京大学的 Inami 实验室就发布了一个类似的项目，名为 MetaLimbs 。它为佩戴者提供了一个由脚踏板控制的机械手臂。也就是说，你还需要用上脚才能控制好你的第三只手臂。不过说实话，操作起来并没有很顺畅。庆应义塾大学发布了这个名为 Fusion 的项目，你可以把它视为 MetaLimbs 的升级版。新项目在原有基础上进行重大升级，除了增加第二只手臂之外，还具有远程呈现功能。再具体一点，就是可以让另一个人（哪怕身处千里之外）可以通过佩戴者的视角来控制这些机器手臂。这意味着那个人可以通过佩戴者头部附近的摄像头，戴上 Oculus Rift 后在 VR （虚拟现实）中控制机械手臂，进而帮助他完成任务。从本质上讲， Fusion 的「远程控制」相当于允许两个人共享同一个身体。Fusion 「远程控制」模式的应用前景显而易见。有了远程实时连接的专家，任何穿着 Fusion 的人，都可以在任何事情上直接拥有专业知识。也就是说，只要网络畅通，每个人能成为各个领域的专家。想象一下，小白也可以戴着 Fusion 来修理家里的空调或进行紧急手术，甚至你自己什么都不用做。在这种模式下，两个 Fusion 手臂也可以连接到人的手臂上，因此远程专家可以实时编排某人的动作来教会他们特定的技能。也就是真正手把手的教学。例如，研究人员展示了一位音乐家如何赋予佩戴者弹奏马林巴琴的能力。也许有一天， Fusion 内置的知识可以教会你的身体最完美的高尔夫球击球技术，或心肺复苏的按压手法，又或者正如麻省理工学院科技评论指出的那样，帮助你在受伤后恢复身体机能（复健）。虽然 Fusion 的创造者现在想要将产品推向市场，不过很难想象我们所有人都背着机器躯干在街上四处走动会是什么样子。目前而言，它更适合在特定的医疗保健领域或企业市场里发光发热。
