Will Doctor gives you the sharpest card for Saturday morning four-ball picks at the Presidents Cup! For more on the world of golf, follow Doc on X @drmedai59  In this episode of the Golf Preview Podcast on Pregame's Network, host Will Docter delves into Friday's disappointing results during the 15th Presidents Cup, providing in-depth analysis, player statistics, and insights into team performances. Below is a breakdown of the key moments: Friday's Recap & Player Analysis: [Will Docter] (0:39 - 13:30) Will discusses the complete turnaround from Thursday's domination by Team USA to Friday's losses in the foursome sessions. Below are detailed match analyses: Match 6: Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im vs. Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele Matsuyama and Im stunned Cantlay and Schauffele with seven consecutive birdies, finishing 7 and 6. The Japanese-Korean duo, ranked low in strokes gained on Day 1, were in top five by the end of Friday. Key Quote: "Seven straight birdies is flat-out impressive stuff in any format" (0:47). Analysis: Matsuyama and Im displayed exceptional form, outperforming Cantlay and Schauffele in every aspect, particularly in putting. Match 7: Adam Scott and Taylor Pendrith vs. Sahith Theegala and Collin Morikawa Pendrith continued his solid performance, paired with Scott who had a fantastic day on the greens. Theegala struggled, having the second-worst day on the course. Analysis: Theegala's weak putting, combined with Morikawa's subpar form, left them outmatched despite Morikawa's solid ball striking. Match 8: Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Jason Day vs. Max Homa and Brian Harman Homa had a strong day with his driving, but Harman's poor showing left the pair vulnerable. Team USA Analysis: Homa and Harman couldn't recover, losing 1-up in a closely contested match. Day and Bezuidenhout capitalized on their putting despite not playing their best. Match 9: Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes vs. Wyndham Clark and Tony Finau The Canadians made seven birdies, ending the match on 13, while Clark and Finau could not make their putts. Key Stat: Both Finau and Clark had negative strokes gained with their irons. Analysis: The home crowd support for Conners and Hughes gave them a needed boost as Team USA faltered. Match 10: Si Woo Kim and Byeong Hun An vs. Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley Si Woo Kim excelled with birdies on 12, 13, and 15, and a clutch par putt to close the match. Scheffler admitted that Henley rolled the ball well but couldn't capitalize on his chances. Analysis: Si Woo's ability to thrive in high-pressure situations made the difference, showcasing his incredible match-play abilities. Saturday Picks & Predictions: [Will Docter] (13:30 - 17:00) Match 11: Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa vs. Adam Scott and Taylor Pendrith Favorite: Scheffler and Morikawa (-205). Prediction: Despite Morikawa's shaky putting, Will leans toward Team USA based on Scheffler's solid ball striking and world number one ranking. Match 12: Tony Finau and Xander Schauffele vs. Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes Underdog: Conners and Hughes (+141). Prediction: Will favors the Canadians, citing their recent form and Finau's ongoing struggles with the greens. Match 13: Si Woo Kim and Tom Kim vs. Keegan Bradley and Wyndham Clark Favorite: Si Woo and Tom Kim (-117). Prediction: Will is confident in the chemistry between the Kims, emphasizing Si Woo's clutch performance on Friday. Match 14: Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns vs. Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im Even Money: Will predicts the Internationals will continue their momentum, doubting Cantlay and Burns' ability to perform under pressure. Closing Remarks: [Will Docter] (17:00 - End) Will concludes by discussing his plan for Saturday's afternoon session, hinting at potential picks for Sunday singles based on Saturday's results. We had encountered technical difficulties and had to await a new motherboard, but we are back! But first! Where have Gail and Piper been? Gail attended a writer's conference in Denver, CO and managed to alarm Piper with the makeup Gail used. Neutrogena Rapid Tone Repair Vitamin C Serum Capsules  Packets of coconut oil as skin moisturizer Returning to traveling with her own shampoo and conditioner Piper's toiletry bag notes: Trying to replace liquid with solid options to reduce the amount of liquids she has to pack, so she's trying out Ethique shampoo and conditioner bars in place of liquid. She's also trying out the body butter stick.  Also Kanebo Suisai Beauty Clear Powder as cleanser to reduce liquid items Adding sunscreen to her kit: ANESSA Perfect UV Skin Care BB Foundation (アネッサ パーフェクトUV スキンケアBB ファンデーション) Changes to makeup - Piper only wears primer (Fenty primer Mini Pro Filt'r Hydrating Primer) or a tinted moisturizer/BB cream, rather than a full coverage foundation. Extra Skincare + Travel Tips! Gail Tips: Dentist has travel sized samples Try to use a product that is multi-use to reduce how many products you need to pack Choose powder based make up to reduce the liquid  Piper Tip: use a never-used, clean, contact holder for serums or sample containers from a store like Sephora or Ulta the The Original MakeUp Eraser from Sephora as a make up removing wash cloth instead of makeup remover wipes Cosmetic moisturizing face masks are not considered liquids by TSA and can really make a difference on travel – – –  Special thanks to Kelly for editing this episode! This week I am very honoured to have my friend Solomon join me. He became a Canadian citizen in a citizenship ceremony on the day we recorded. His pure joy and happiness touched me, a Canadian by birth. We met for tea shortly after the ceremony was done. He had stopped on the way at the Dutch Bakery to pick up some of his favourite treats for a celebration. He didn't stop grinning the entire time we talked! Although he has lived here for 6 years, it was like he was looking around our community with new eyes, and a feeling he described as now truly ‘belonging'. His euphoria was almost tangible. One of Solomon's favourite places is downtown Victoria. He likes to walk around and take in the sights, the architecture, and the people. The busy-ness of this small city reminds him of where he came from. So after a couple of hours, we went for lunch on a shaded patio, and enjoyed Japanese-Korean food. It perfectly underscored Canada - an amazing mix of cultures, people, and food. Rather fitting for the occasion. As he works in the health sector, his commitment to Canada, and determination to contribute to Canada, is much-needed. I hope you'll join me in welcoming one of Canada's newest citizens, Solomon. To celebrate the 20th episode of the Korean Beauty Show Podcast, on today’s episode we’re going to take a look into what it takes to launch a new K-Beauty Brand.    CONNECT WITH ME Instagram: www.instagram.com/lauren.kbeauty  Facebook: www.facebook.com/stylestory.au  Website: www.thekoreanbeautyshow.com  Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com.au/stylestoryau Tik Tok: https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSaHUgHL/ Download Your Free Guide to K-Beauty: https://mailchi.mp/f845eb5d20cd/guidetokbeauty   Episode Summary: At STYLE STORY, we are celebrating the launch of our first in-house brand Jelly Ko!  Today, I’m going to take you behind the scenes to talk about how we did it, why we did it, as well as some of the trials and tribulations that go along with setting up a new brand.  TOPICS DISCUSSED   The Timing was Right    As a K-Beauty expert, I’ve consulted with a lot of brands for many years, helping them put together everything from their marketing strategy to planning new product releases, naming products, helping with labelling, ingredients and more.  As part of my job, I’ve analysed literally thousands of ingredients lists and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). I know what makes a good product, a bad product and just a mediocre one I’ve also learned a whole lot about what people like and dislike in their beauty products, and been able to use that data to better plan new product launches for STYLE STORY, and match those to our customers’ needs.      Australian Cosmetic Regulation    There are a lot of products that either can’t be sold in AUstralia because they contain an ingredient that can’t be sold here in a cosmetic formula or can’t be sold in the percentage they are in in a particular product. This is a huge task for cosmetic distributors to work out exactly what can and can’t be sold in Australia, what needs to be relabelled and working out all of the different cosmetic regulations, requirements and laws that need to be complied with. This is a huge part of the work we do at STYLE STORY. It is expensive and time-consuming.  Case in point  - some of The Ordinary’s products that can’t legally be sold in Australia. There has been a big case this week about fake The Ordinary products circulating in the Australian market. This was easy to spot because these products aren’t legally allowed to be sold in Australia.  Unfortunately, there are many Korean Beauty products like that as well, including: Korean sunscreens, none of which have ever been approved by Australia’s TGA (Liah Yoo had the same problem when she was trying to introduce her Krave sunscreen into the US - she had used sunscreen filters that aren’t approved there so wasn’t able to sell them as sunscreens)  There are many Korean products containing certain ingredients (like arbutin), which many Korean BB Creams have in them that can’t be sold here.  As a result, we’ve have had to say no to many products and brands that have ingredients that can’t legally be sold here either at all, or in the percentages they are contained in. Sometimes we have to say no because we just don’t have the time to fill in all the paperwork that needs to be done to import certain products.  A lot of sellers, even big players, are willing to break Australia’s cosmetic laws and sell products that can’t legally be sold here but as industry leaders STYLE STORY is not willing or able to do that.  This has been a continuous source of frustration for us over the years      Reformulations and Discontinuations  Anyone that has been using Korean beauty products for a while will be familiar with the cycle of reformulations and discontinuations This is a constant source of stress for us as distributors, because we have to spend the time and money to analyse the ingredients lists all over again, check that they comply with all Australia’s cosmetic regulations, which is not a short process and then also break the news to customers, many of whom are not as happy about reformulations We wanted to break this cycle by coming out with our own line of products that we control.      We wanted to make a brand we wanted to use!    We’re all about combining great ingredients with beautiful packaging and textures that are beautiful to apply and look at Jelly Ko’s brand concept is to tasty skincare for your face.  We have combined Korea’s design innovation and skincare technology with a fun brand concept that makes you look forward to using our products every day  A lot of the Korean brands we are seeing these days are like carbon copies of each other, they all have a same propolis line, a cica / centella line, an AHA/BHA line, ceramide line, tea tree line, trouble skin / dr xx  I sometimes think this is designed to make you buy more and more products.  It’s also very confusing for consumers.  We talk to people every day who are just so confused with what products they should be using, what order to use them in, etc.  Instead, we wanted to focus more on a good, well-rounded formula, with textures that we adore and love to use rather than a fad. We’ve also designed products that can be used by multiple different skin types so you don’t need to shop across multiple lines.   The Hard Part: Starting your own brand is definitely not easy - it takes years to come up with the right formula, find the right packaging We were very lucky to be able to work with some of Korea’s best cosmetic chemists Overall, the process was very complicated with packaging, design, formulation, complying with cosmetic regulations and also the various stability tests  What To Do if You Liked Today’s Episode: Come and visit us instagram.com/jellyko_official  Save 10% off your Jelly Ko Bubble Tea Steam Cream with code ‘podcast’. Kia ora,and welcome to Monday's Economy Watch where we follow the economic events and trends that affect New Zealand.I'm David Chaston and this is the International edition from Interest.co.nz.Today we lead news of extremes wherever you look. The Federal Reserve pumped in another +US$211 bln to Wall Street in repo funding last week. Recall the previous week they pumped in +$367 bln. That is more than +US$ ½ tln in just two weeks in their on-going operations to add liquidity to American financial markets. This is not insignificant and there has been a sharp upturn in the growth of the Fed's balance sheet as this cheap ~1.5% money is added to the system.Maybe that is one reason Wall Street ended last week on a firmish note, up +1.3% on the week. For the year, it looks like the S&P500 will have risen a very impressive +28%, proving cheap money drives asset prices. The benchmark US Treasury 10 year yield has fallen from ~2.7% to about ~1.9% in the same period.Friday's rise was bolstered by good consumer income and spending data for November. The same data set reveals that inflation as measured by the Fed's preferred metric, PCE, slipped to 1.6% pa.American consumer sentiment is also holding in the latest survey although unchanged from the previous month. It is also very little changed from this time last year.European markets were even more bullish on Friday than their American counterparts, with most up nearly +1%. The exception was London with finished with virtually no gain. Of the three main EU equity market indexes, London (FTSE100) is going to end the year up about +12%, The German DAX30 is on target for a +26% rise in 2019, and the winner is the French CAC40 which is headed for an annual gain of +28%.In France, they are tackling the pollution problems of diesel SUVs with a NZ$34,000 tax on them in 2020, raising it from NZ$21,000 presently. This is on top of tough new European rules being phased in next year to lower car emissions. At the same time, the French are reducing cash incentives for the purchase of electric cars. [Advert]Exchange-Traded Funds are a relatively easy and inexpensive way to diversify a portfolio without having to have the expertise required to pick individual shares. Hatch has more than 500 ETFs on hand, so investors looking to invest in their values and interests close to their hearts are spoiled for choice. Visit www.hatch.as/investing to learn more about how you can easily diversify your portfolio. In China, the Shanghai equity market ended last week with a solid +1.1% gain and they are heading for an annual +22% gain in calendar 2019.China is also making new efforts to get its TPPA-alternative RCEP multi-lateral trade deal done. This is the trade deal it prefers because it excludes most of the TPPA's labour and environmental standards. China's push includes an attempt to help reconcile fractious Japanese-Korean relationships.China continues to be embarrassed by the lack of acceptance of its currency. New data shows that the yuan's share as an international payments currency is only up to +1.2%. That is a gain, but almost an insignificant one. It even trails the Aussie dollar. Even th e US dollar had a larger market share gain in 2019 while retaining and enhancing its dominant position. And don't forget, payments are the easy bit to change. It is the pricing basis where the greenback shines, and even those meagre yuan transactions are probably priced originally in US dollars. In Hong Kong, their Q3 current account data release revealed that capital flight from the City is underway. More than NZ$30 bln flowed out in Q3, more than four times the flow in the second quarter, and there was an inflow of capital in the first quarter of 2019.In Australia, their tax authorities have won a huge case against gold miners involving rorting their GST refund scheme. More than AU$¼ bln is involved and it attracted crime networks. In Sydney, fires, droughts and low water supplies are challenging everyone with extremes. As water supplies get very low, evaporation in existing supplies is becoming a critical issue. And these climate disasters are set to douse their economy with Q4 and future GDP now expected to be lower than it otherwise would have been. Further, China is reviewing its coal import quotas and the Aussie coal industry is waiting nervously on that outcome. The UST 10yr yield is at 1.92% and, although unchanged from Friday, it is up +9 bps from this time last week. Gold will start the week at US$1,478/oz and up +US$4 from this time last week.US oil prices are down sharply but just to levels we had at the start of last week, of just on US$60/bbl and the Brent benchmark is now just under US$66/bbl.The Kiwi dollar will open this short week at 66.1 USc and little-changed. On the cross rates we are also similar at 95.7 AUc. Against the euro we are marginally firmer at 59.6 euro cents. That puts our TWI-5 at just on 71.2 and a little stronger since this time last week.Bitcoin is little-changed from this time Saturday, now at US$7,163.

In episode 382 Melbourne's culinary king, Chris Lucas, takes us behind-the-scenes of how he's successfully built and promoted some of Australia's most exciting and interesting dining experiences. This is for anyone (not just restaurateurs) wanting to build a business that stands out from the crowd. “I don't get intellectually interested in what other people have done … my idea is about capturing what I think is right, and try to be creative and do something different. We've established a set of brands that do that, that are about being innovative and that create a level of excitement, and as a result, a lot of excitement. That's what I think we should all be interested in.” - Chris Lucas, The Lucas Group There's loads more tips and insights just like this that will help you build that beautiful business of yours into the empire it deserves to be. Hit the PLAY button or subscribe free to hear the full interview. You'll also find the full interview transcription below. If you have questions about how to grow and market your business successfully then you'll get this answers in this interview: How do I find a gap in the market place? Why shouldn't I just copy my competitors? How do I innovate in my business? Why & how should I challenge the conventions of my industry? How do I come up with a business model relevant to today's customers? Where and how do I look for opportunities? Chris's successes in starting and promoting restaurants is amazing. As well as the super-successful Chin Chin, he has a stable of some of Melbourne's most popular eateries: Baby Pizza and Japanese/Korean-inspired Kong BBQ in Richmond, as well as Hawker Hall, a food and beer hall in Windsor, where the hip and the hungry queue to get in. And he's recently opened Kisume, an upmarket Japanese Korean dining experience.   Here's what caught my attention from my chat with Chris Lucas: Go where the demand is and find a gap in the market ... learn to see opportunities where others don't. In doing so, avoid doing ‘me too'. As Chris said, “doing me-too doesn't intellectually interest him!” Come up with a product and business model more relevant to today's customer. Sometimes we do things just because that's how everyone does them … maybe it's time to break a few rules and do things differently? Innovate and constantly evolve your business model. Look for fun places to take your clients, suppliers and staff. This is not something Chris and I spoke about, but that chat reminded me of an idea I shared in a past episode, where I suggested us business owners should never eat alone; or, at least once a week we should get out of the office and have a business lunch with someone. I'm catching up with an overseas listener for dinner tonight! But the marketing gold doesn't stop there, also in this episode: You'll discover where to look for ideas to get more customers - and it's not where you think The importance of owning your brand's personality is made crystal clear And we revisit an episode in which my Joep Pennartz built an entire business called Shacky around #JOMO - the joy of missing out!   Please support these businesses who make this show possible: Open Universities Australia - Check out Open Universities' online courses for business owners over at Open.edu.au. The headline read, “Tears and Hugs as 5 Abducted Japanese Go Home to Visit.” From a chance look at this photo, a project that spanned several years and many months in Japan and South Korea was born. The resulting book, The Invitation-Only Zone: The True Story of North Koreas Abduction Project (Farrar, Straus, and Giroux, 2016), is an fascinatingly and compellingly written account of a series of abductions from Japan (as well as other parts of Asia, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East) from the late 1970s through the their contemporary after-effects. Boynton’s book weaves the story of the abductees and abductors together with a modern history of Japanese/Korean relations that contextualizes the abduction story within a broader frame of colonialism and its histories.
