She was a fellow at the Foundation for Mexican Letters and at Mexico's Fonca's Program for young writers and she's a member of the SNCA (National System of Art Creators in Mexico). She was a beneficiary of the residencies at Casa Estudio Cien años de Soledad. She has published work in various print and digital media, such as The Paris Review, El Malpensante, Words Without Borders, El País andThe New York Times. She has a Master's Degree in Creative Writing in Spanish from New York University, which she completed with the support of a Fulbright grant. Her books have been published in nine countries and translated to English, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese and French. Her book of essays Cuerpo extraño (Foreign Body) was awarded the Latin American Voices prize by Literal Publishing in 2013. Cuaderno de faros (On Lighthouses) was long listed for the von Rezzori award and chosen for the Indie Next list by Indie Bound. Linea Nigra was a finalist for the National Book Critics Cricle's Gregg Barrios Book in Translation Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Autobiography Prize, the CANIEM's Book of the year award and the Amazon Primera Novela (First Novel) Award. Dr. Jazmina tells us the story of how, from a young age, her artistic talents enabled her to contribute to her household financially, to help alleviate the burden her parents were facing, because they decided to give her the best education they could offer her. She talks about how her passion for Biology brought her to Texas A&M University to pursue a PhD, and learn more about the GMO technology and its applications in the agricultural field. This knowledge enabled her to contribute to her beloved Panama, her birthplace and where she returned after completing her Ph.D. to work for the Panamanian government for some years before her personal life brought her back to the U.S. to start a family. Dr. Jazmina and her spouse planned this stage of their lives as best they could, but life threw them a curve ball that changed their lives forever. Baby Enzo was born with a developmental disability commonly known as dwarfism, a medical condition that limits the height a person may reach, but not the goals they can achieve. This change inspired Dr. Jazmina to make the world a kinder place for her baby, and led her to found KeenStride a service that offers a science-based curation of items aimed at helping women practice selfcare purposefully. Jazmina Barrera (CDMX 10 mar 1988) es editora fundadora de Ediciones Antílope, traductora, narradora, y ensayista. Ensayo de novela sobre partos y terremotos, recientemente publicado en Almadía (2020), revisa el tema de la maternidad y el desdoblamiento de la experiencia del embarazo. En Cuaderno de faros (Tierra Adentro, 2016) (Pepitas de calabaza, 2017) hace un recorrido afectivo, descriptivo, y emocional por alguno de faros emblemáticos de diversos países. Jazmina Saavedra was born in Managua, Nicaragua. After a two-year legal process, she arrived in the United States at the age of 18. Later she became a US Citizen and has been living in Southern California since her arrival.    At age 20 she started a wholesale business to import crafts from Mexico and Colombia for distribution to small Latino businesses in Southern California markets. Later she created her own brand of anti-aging products “Jazmina's Collagen” and shared her beauty tips in major Spanish TV networks. In recent years she has been promoting solar energy. She has been a member of the Church "Final Call" Ministries for 20 years.   She became a Republican to swear allegiance to the flag and the US Constitution. Since 2005 she has been involved in community events in Los Angeles County, serving as a volunteer in the organization of large events, occasionally serving as a master of ceremonies.   In 2016 she decides to participate in the presidential campaign as a founding member of Latinos For Trump, becoming the Spanish voice of that organization and along with Make California Great Again Inc.  Being an active member of the Los Angeles County Republican Committee, Member of Action Republican Club in the City of Torrance. Jazmina has become a great activist in favor of the policies and proposals of President Trump.  She is also a California Delegate.  Jazmina believes in America first by protecting our borders through the construction of the wall, controlling immigration, taking care of jobs and opportunities for US citizens.   Jazmina has decided to run for this 2020 election as a candidate for the United States Congress District 44th by the State of California and fight to truly represent the Californians with their needs and rights. She supports President Trump's agenda for the benefit of making both, a Greater America and Safer America.    Jazmina is Pro-life and supports our Second Amendment. California passed laws against our morals and faith as conservative families. Laws that jeopardizes the health of our children and young people, that weaken our economy with programs that do no benefit our citizens and our children, but rather help aliens who have no legal right to be in our country.    Jazmina will work to eliminate laws that affect our decent and hardworking citizens, as well as to prevent our children from being indoctrinated in schools with ideologies that corrupt and destroy our moral values.
