Meshell Ndegeocello has been a working musician since she was a teenager. She's probably best known for her biggest hit to date, “Wild Night,” a Van Morrison cover she recorded with John Mellancamp back in 1994. Meshell is 55 now and just put out her 11th solo album, “The Omnichord Real Book,” her first in five years. The album started as a kind of personal pandemic project before she decided to share it with the world, and it's now been nominated for a Best Alternative Jazz Album Grammy award. When Anna spoke with Meshell, she was just back from a quick European tour, and they talked about what it was like for her to grow up in the 70s and 80s in the Washington D.C. area, surrounded by music, and how she found the bass, her main instrument, by chance (and with a little help from Prince.) In this episode, Meshell shares how her life with music has evolved through the years, what she's learned to let go of – as a performer, as a mother and a daughter – and how the ‘musical transmissions' that she receives help her stay grounded and present to who she really is, moment to moment.

After a number of years in small-market television journalism, 7x Emmy-winner Anthony Mason joined CBS News in 1986 and has quite literally done it all: from being a chief correspondent in London and Moscow, to handling Q&A's with American presidents. But maybe most notably, Anthony has now become a go-to confidant for musicians of all stripes. Carving his own path on the network thanks to a lifelong passion for songwriting, he's profiled legends like Elton John, Mick Jagger, Patti Smith, Joni Mitchell and Aretha Franklin. Plus, for up-and-comers seeking credibility, an interview with Anthony can rival a glowing review from Pitchfork or Rolling Stone, so non-household names like Charley Crockett and King Princess are given a new, nationwide audience courtesy of a conversation with today's guest. On this episode, Anthonly divulges how UPS once lost his entire record collection, what momento he took from a then-shuttering Tower Records in the late 2000's, and how he's navigated some incredibly personal moments with the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Neil Diamond and John Mellancamp. Episode 25 of Season for aired at 7 pm on 24 June 2021.  Kicking off with Airbourne, one of Aussies finest we kept the pace up about 30 min with Deep Purple, Def Leppard, and a few others before going down south with some Lynyrd Skynyrd and Blackberry Smoke.  'One Horse Town' off The Whippoorwill by Blackberry Smoke is an emotional look at small-town America and a very cool track.   Next, we went as close to prog as we normally go on TSORR with Coheed & Cambia and a live version of Rush's masterpiece 2112.  Punk was covered by Green Day, the Clash, and Ramones, it was great to hear the Clash's 'Somebody Got Murdered ' again, it's been ages since I heard that track off the very bloated Sandinista triple set.  For the heavy, we took in an aural assault courtesy of Pantera, Parkway Drive, and later some Mastodon and Megadeth.  Rory Gallagher and Zakk Wylde took care of the guitar lessons.  As usual, I had 3 times the amount of music that would fit into 3 hours.  The show is almost noticeable more for what we skipped than what we played :-)A highlight for me was Papa Roach with between Angels and Insects', that lyric is something else, I didn't realise how good it is and that folks, is the beauty of the show, you get your attention drawn to the little things that are massive.  Another highlight was Queen off Live Killers, it is another of these "Never Forget" moments, Queen in their day were the best band in the world.  Anyway, check it out, if you want to get in contact check out The Story of Rock and Roll Facebook page, until next week Adios Ameoba's  Artists featured:  Airbourne, Deep Purple, Def Leppard, Armored Saint, Drowning Pool, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackberry Smoke, Coheed & Cambria, Rush, Thin Lizzy, Rainbow, Green Day, The Clash, Ramones, Slaughter, Warrant, Pantera, Parkway Drive, Rory Gallagher, Pride & Glory, Junkyard, ACDC, Queen, Queensrÿche, Disturbed, Black Sabbath, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, John Mellancamp, Jack Hammer, Papa Roach, Soundgarden, Paul Stanley, Palaye Royale, Myles Kennedy, The Pretty Reckless, Megadeth, Mastodon, Ozzy Osbourne

We talk about entertainers and athletes often arent good with money and blow through it quickly. Nicholas Cage (actor ) and Antoine Walker (Celtics NBA player) are two examples we discuss. We also discuss how most lottery winners end up losing it all cuz they dont know how to handle money. Indiana punches above its weight with famous musicians (Axl Rose, Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson, John Mellancamp, West Montgomery, Cole Porter, etc). Jimi discusses his plans for a new album. We talk about how lack of live gigs is affecting musicians. Jimi says he has been getting calls from guitarist friends who are trying to sell guitars to pay the bills and they call him trying to get him to buy some of their guitars. We discuss how some artists and musicians probably will give up the music business and never come back, and how this will affect the music industry. We talk about a case study of a mid level band touring and how some unforeseen hiccups can completely turn the tour from a profitable one to being completely upside down financially.
