Today on the Expat Money Show I am going to do a "freedom read", a concept inspired by my friend Kevin Koskella on his Freedom Lovin' Podcast, where he would read sections of prominent freedom books which I thought was such a cool idea. So today I am going to be reading the first few chapters from my recently published book, the Expats Guide on Moving to Mexico. We haven't even done an official launch of this book yet, so we need to help people realize it's out there. In today's reading, you'll learn much of the basics of why so many expats have been moving to the beautiful country of Mexico. The Expats Guide on Moving to Mexico The Expats Guide on Moving to Mexico is a comprehensive A to Z guide through everything you need to know about Mexico and the processes behind moving there or setting up a Plan B residency in the country. Getting a residency in Mexico is not that complicated or expensive. So don't fear; in my new book, I go into detail about what the process is like and how you can do it yourself. I explain my first task as the author of this book - to discuss mindset. Are you ready for a change, and how will you accomplish it? My goal is to present the full reality of Mexico to the fullest extent of my ability - the good, the bad, and the ugly. I address some of the biggest fears many have of becoming an expat. Are any of these holding you back? I outline some of the reasons Mexico can provide an excellent quality of life, including some advantages you might not expect. I discuss who this book is NOT for. Yes, it won't be for everyone. I lay out the major differences between living in Mexico vs. living in places like the USA, Canada and Europe. RELATED EPISODES 213: From The Bay Area To Mexico an Expat Story - Ken 170: Searching For Freedom In Mexico - Marc Clair 093: Why Are People Leaving The USA – Travis Luther PURCHASE THE EXPATS GUIDE TO MOVING TO MEXICO Get your own copy of the Expats Guide on Moving to Mexico and after you read the book, do us a HUGE favour and leave us a great review on Amazon! This is a huge help in getting the book in front of more people. CONCLUSION I hope you enjoyed today's episode, and I really do hope you enjoy the brand-new book. After reading this book, you will have a thorough understanding of the types of visas to be able to move to Mexico, the specific requirements to get residencies, the safest cities to live in as an expat, the cost of living, and so much more! Even in just the chapters covered here, you'll leave with a solid idea of everything you need to take into account to determine if Mexico is the right country for you. Our plan, as I said in the episode, is to release a number of these, but for that to happen, I need lots of support from the community. We want to make this a number-one bestseller. We need lots of reviews out there. So pick up the book and let me know what you think. Hopefully, you get lots of value. Send me a note or put a review on Amazon. I'm going to read everything. Thanks!

Are you free? It seems like a simple question, but the answer isn't always obvious. Most people live with the illusion of freedom. They have a stable job, nice house, and if they're lucky, 2-4 weeks vacation. But is that really freedom? This question is one that today's guest has dedicated his life to answering. I'm talking with Kevin Koskella—lifelong adventurer, free-thinker, entrepreneur, and author of The Rebel's Guide to Freedom. Kevin used to feel stuck in the corporate world, slaving away for money and repeating the same day for weeks, months, and even years on end. But when he lost his job during the dot.com crash, he decided that he would never go back to that life. In this episode, he shares his story from being laid off to starting a lucrative online business, his approach to investing in crypto, and the importance of designing a life on your terms and following your definition of success. Free Gift He's giving you free access to the Freedom Quiz. How free are you in your life? What areas are potential blind spots? Is there any low-hanging fruit? These were really in-depth interviews that I know you will love to listen to again. We are going to tell a language learning story for the expat. Enjoy! HERE IS A SNEAK PEEK OF WHAT WE DISCUSSED ABOUT LANGUAGE LEARNING… Are you thinking that it's impossible to learn a new language, that you don't have what it takes? Anthony Metivier was able to learn German fluently in 1 year. Listen to his strategies and tools and how he accomplished this task to be able to do a presentation in German at the University. Sarah Tarvin details how she first developed a passion for language learning and how you can too! Do you want to travel and see the world, but you're afraid that not speaking the language will affect your experience. Chase Warrington and I discuss the importance of learning the local language. It's amazing how people get started in their expat journeys and their language learning journeys. John Fotheringham explains how he first got interested in studying and teaching English in Japan. Are you thinking that your brain could really use some help? Anthony Metivier discusses the benefits of learning a language on the brain and preventing Alzheimer's. Did you know that all of the myths you've heard about language learning are false? None of them are true, it's all about mindset. Sarah Tarvin and I discuss various mindsets and philosophies regarding language learning. John Fotheringham describes some of his philosophies behind the concept of learning a language and how they can benefit you on your journey. Listen in as I talk with Anthony Metivier to find out what is the science behind building memories? Do you actually rewire your brain? How does that work? And the different types of memories, what are they? Sarah Tarvin's daughter is multilingual. And she's just a toddler. We discuss the techniques she uses to teach language to her child so that she will be multilingual. Do you love to watch videos? Kevin Koskella and I discuss learning a language through consuming content and learning in that language. Have you heard of the ‘Memory Palace' and wondered what the heck it is? Anthony Metivier explains exactly what the concept of the Memory Palace is and how you can use it to learn any foreign language of your choice. John Fotheringham and I discuss a secret Japanese language memorization method. Kris Broholm and I discuss various topics around learning languages including learning via video games. You will love this! Anthony Metivier digs deeper into the Memory Palace technique and how to scale this idea, and why being strategic is so important. John Fotheringham and I discuss the concept of grammar and its application with memory. How this fits in with learning a new language and when you should be learning grammar. Are you thinking that children learn languages differently than adults? Well, John Fotheringham and I discuss what methods you can use that work with your children so they can learn quickly and to make sure they have fun! Can learning a new language bring you joy? I ask Kris Broholm. We talk about the fun we have from learning languages, and how as a polyglot what you take out of the language. Imagine you're living in a country where you don't speak the language and you're a single guy…Kevin Koskella discusses meeting a woman and not knowing Portuguese, his story is hilarious! I asked Kris Broholm what the most difficult language for him to learn was? As a polyglot, you wouldn't think he would have any problems, but one, in particular, was really hard for him. I bet you can't guess what language he's talking about. Kevin Koskella is an online entrepreneur and digital nomad. He decided he wanted to be free of the corporate world when he lost his job after the dot-com bubble burst. With a history of competitive swimming, he returned to the water and started doing part-time work as a swim instructor and personal trainer. In 2005, he turned Tri Swim Coach, his business teaching swimmers to become triathletes, into a full time, location independent, online business. Today he works with entrepreneurs around what he teaches triathletes: you need experts so you can be the most successful. That’s why in 2017, Kevin founded Work Hero, a service that helps online entrepreneurs by accomplishing their design and technical tasks so they have the freedom to focus on the work they do best. “The secret of happiness is freedom; the secret of freedom is courage.” Thucydides Kevin Koskella created the Freedom Lovin' blog and podcast to share knowledge on building freedom in an unfree world. The site features guests who are philosophers, world travelers, and entrepreneurs, bringing strategies to carve out freedom no matter who you are or where you live. I was invited to Kevin’s show to talk about the freedom of choices and a little bit about my journey to online business. In this conversation, we spoke quite a bit about our views on work we are doing, covering topics like: What is freedom? Why asking permission for anything you do in your life is not a natural way to live. Who is richer the guy who is earning big without freedom or who has options such as freedom of choice. Why people should quit the job and travel the world to see human achievement, how it will make you better human being. Why you should have to have a plan before quitting your job to achieve your goal, how to figure out what's really important to you. If you really have patience about your job that one thing but what do you do if you feel like you're not living your life the way you want to? Then this idea of quitting your job is not a fantasy but to find something else to work on will help you as a person to grow. How to manage time effectively such as using a timer. How a business idea from spa shop helping local business through digital marketing and impacting on their business growth. Unconventional traveling without any plans. Enjoy the show! [25:48] Everyone on the panel was a badass. [26:04] As a woman, you get multiple titles. Entrepreneur, CEO, Mom, Wife. You gotta be in different headspace. [26:46] What does being a mom and an entrepreneur do for Maresa. [27:12] Maresa treats her family like a client, she schedules time with them. [27:58] Maresa's husband is supportive, and it is so important to what she does. [28:43] You need a team around you at all time. [29:15] Maresa is the least digital person on the panel, but she's still killing it. [30:20] It's not all about conducting your business online, and you are NOT for everybody. [32:00] With the wrong people, time goes by SO slow. [33:00] We're all doing things different, because there's different paths to success. [33:33] Where you can find Maresa on the internet. [34:00] Maresa did a TEDX Talk on May 19th on social media and awareness. [35:39] Maresa will be a guest again soon. [35:56] We're joined by Melissa and John Bertino. [36:27] Melissa seriously crushed it as a panel moderator! [37:20] Melissa didn't know there was going to be theme music. [38:07] Melissa had to nail the intro, and she completely set the tone for the whole panel. [39:12] SoCal Marketing Club has been going through a pivot. [39:48] SCMC is transitioning into John's passion project, and marketing is a lifestyle. [41:30] It's empowering that we have a great crowd of women who are making the change to entrepreneur life. [42:04] John didn't give Melissa the opportunity, she GRABBED that opportunity because she deserves it. [42:41] The panel was made up of some badass babes that Melissa got to lead and she didn't doubt herself. [43:42] How Melissa prepared to be a panel moderator. [44:39] Each women brought something different, and something someone could relate to. [45:00] The panel was Mia Davies, Michelle Weinstein, and Maresa Friedman. [46:10] Maresa is a mom, who travels a lot, and she balances her kids sending her messages that they miss her and crying, while you're trying to be a digital badass. [47:07] Now, John resonated with Maresa, because he is away from his family. [48:05] Everyone found something that they resonated with. [48:22] What stuck out to Melissa from tonight. [48:53] You're either going to repel people, or attract people, but you don't want to be in-between. [49:19] You didn't need to be a coach to find value from this panel. [51:12] The Loading Dock in San Diego lends itself to events like this! Great space. [52:37] This event is in sunny San Diego, in Little Italy, which The Loading Dock is business in the front, and party in the back. It's worth it for out of market people to come. [54:11] Constructive feedback on moderating a panel better. [55:42] Great Q&A questions for the panel, and it really challenged them. [56:55] There's will always be a bit of sleez in selling, but you don't have to be sleezy. [58:20] What Melissa felt she did good, and what she felt was bad. [59:50] The core four from Episode 1 to Episode 114. [01:00:33] That's a Wrap, Creative Hustlers! Check the show notes for links to all guests, and visit us on iTunes and Spotify and leave a review! Kevin Koskella is an online entrepreneur and digital nomad. He decided he wanted to be free of the corporate world when he lost his job after the dot com bubble burst. With a history of competitive swimming, he returned to the water and started doing part time work as a swim instructor and personal trainer. How to make money with freedom? Stop asking yourselves - listen. We’re now on the 6th episode of Daniel Carbonel’s Wake Up to Freedom Podcast and if you know Daniel, then you know that he brings in the Big Guns on the internet as special guests to his show every week. Today he has another successful online entrepreneur and podcaster as his special guest by the name of Kevin Koskella from Freedom Lovin. Kevin is one of the pioneers of online business and have survived thus far, his success is truly phenomenal! He’ll be talking about how to make money with freedom by using the mighty power of the worldwide web. Kevin has gone to great lengths to achieve freedom in his life, so you might want to listen to him. Why do People Seek Freedom? Although our society is based on democracy which outrights bans any form of slavery, the system does not seem to create an environment of freedom for most people. You can see it every day on how people are “required” to work, go to school, get a job, create a business etc. they need money to be able to do what they need to do. Often money is scarce to the people who need it the most which make life even more difficult. So it would be an uninteresting topic to discuss with them on how to make money with freedom. People will think that you’re crazy or delusional! Ever since Kevin was a small boy he would observe these things and question why people are limited to do things that society demands from them, and they never get the chance to do what they really want to do with their own lives. He even suffered more when he felt unfree during college times and after graduating from college. Because everybody was expecting him to get a job, get an apartment and get in line like a slave would. How can a society that professes to embrace freedom when its lifestyle is one of slavery? This is what he often reiterates to Daniel Carbonel during the podcast. So he decided that he will have none of that and start his freedom business even if he had to crawl to do it because he longed for real freedom. He didn’t yet know exactly how to make money with freedom, but he knew he was on the right track. How to Make Money with Freedom…Exactly? Well, for one thing, it won’t be easy, but the tradeoff is that you’ll be completely free. You’ll enjoy the financial freedom from your internet business. Spend more time on yourself or with your family and friends. Experience the privilege to travel the world with absolutely no worries. Know that you are truly free and you can do whatever you want. Now let’s break it down on how Kevin was able to discover how to make money with freedom over the course of 3 years time. In the beginning, Kevin only had 1 website that offered swimming lessons. Also, he was employed in a company as he was still in the corporate world at that time. When he got laid off from his job he became a personal fitness trainer. And this is what he used to merge with his swimming skills in order to teach an effective endurance technique for the triathlon competition. He renamed his website to the now very famous, TriSwimCoach.com where he works as a personal triathlon trainer/coach and people pay him thousands of dollars for it. And that was his first experience real unadulterated freedom in his life! With enough money now to fund new online business fronts Kevin was unstoppable in his freedom business and at long last, he found and created a formula on how to make money with freedom. So from this, we see that Kevin did not pursue the ability to become very good at the technical stuff regarding internet business. Instead, he tried to get creative with what he already knows and discovered a profitable market niche. On this episode I talk with my long time buddy Kevin Koskella from his latest startup useworkhero.com I met Kevin back in 2013 when I was living in Boulder, CO and finishing my book from the coffee shops there and he interviewed me on his Freedom Lovin Podcast. We recorded this conversation the day after the Segwit2x Bitcoin hard fork was canceled and after I'd been doing a lot of trading!

Wes Bertrand is back to discuss his wonderful new book Complete Liberty Inside Out: Honoring Yourself and Others for Optimal Enrichment. We take a hard look at not only the philosophy of liberty, which has been thoroughly covered by those who have come before us, but also the psychology of liberty, which has been not so much. How does culture damage our minds, lessening our lives? Religion, school, and the family are systems of domination, not unlike the state? Sacrifice isn't a virtue? What are the four stages of liberty? Can this book build a bridge between the liberty community and the Non-Violent Communication community, two groups which each have half of it right? We cover all this and more during this enlightening and entertaining discussion! I was recently a guest on Freedom Lovin with Kevin Koskella. In this show, much time is spent exploring my story and how I came do discover liberty. We talk about how I progressed from being focused on politics, to finiancial freedom, to improving my relationships, and finally to self-knowledge and inner healing. I had much fun talking to Kevin. I consider his show to in many ways be a sister show to mine. We both have the same end goal, helping people bring more freedom to their lives, it is just that our approaches have a different feel. I highly encourage you to give his show a listen, beyond just my appearance. This episode is an interview that I did with Kevin Koskella from Freedom Lovin podcast. Kevin and I talk about expat life in Mexico: the pros, cons and experiences.
Kevin Koskella from the Freedom Lovin podcast joins me to discuss how he found freedom in an unfree world. We cover his six strategies for increasing personal freedom: 1. Emotional freedom. This is the first step before anything else. He recommends Nathaniel Branden's work, Non-violent communication, and Acceptance therapy. Without breaking free in this realm, you won't be free anywhere else in life. Focus on this personal stuff first and go out from there. 2. Travel. Traveling can open up new worlds. The world is not a scary place as it turns out. 3. Figure out what you need to be happy. Keep those things, get rid of the stuff that doesn't make you happy. You will be freer when you purge like this. 4. Become financially free. Don't let this be daunting. What are your priorities? People travel the world making $1000/month. That's freedom. 5. Build a business but really think about what will bring you the most freedom. Online businesses offer the advantage of being able to live anywhere. Many businesses will give you less freedom. Watch out. 6. Set up an anonymous New Mexico LLC and start using Bitcoin. Try to deal with banks and government agencies as little as possible, but don't break laws- there are too many other ways to be free to risk going to jail (Harry Browne talks a lot about this). Find more from Kevin here: http://www.freedomlovin.com/ https://twitter.com/freedomlovinguy Harry Browne’s great book: http://www.amazon.com/How-Found-Freedom-Unfree-World-ebook/dp/B007KTDHJK/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1391715651&sr=1-1&keywords=how+i+found+freedom+in+an+unfree+world Harry Browne’s audio course: http://www.harrybrowne.org/AudioCourse.htm Pete Gerlach’s work on Inner Family Systems therapy: http://sfhelp.org/gwc/guide1.htm http://www.youtube.com/user/gercacn?feature=watch The works of Nathaniel Branden, including sentence completion exercises: http://nathanielbranden.com/ http://nathanielbranden.com/sentence-completion-i http://nathanielbranden.com/sentence-completion-ii Secrets of the Millionaire Mind: http://www.amazon.com/Secrets-Millionaire-Mind-Mastering-Wealth/dp/0060763280/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1391700936&sr=1-1&keywords=secrets+of+the+millionaire+mind Rich Dad, Poor Dad: http://www.amazon.com/Rich-Dad-Poor-Teach-Middle/dp/1612680011/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1391701712&sr=1-1&keywords=rich+dad+poor+dad Choice Conversations is now on Facebook. Subscribe via iTunes The guest for this episode is Kevin Koskella from Triswimcoach.com, TriSwimPro.com, and the Tri Swim Coach podcast. Kevin offers advice to swimmers of all levels during this interview. He offers 5 tips specifically for intermediate to advanced swimmers. 1. Take time to do sprints once per week For example: 8X50, the first 25 yards are all out sprint, next 25 are easy to moderate, 15-20 seconds rest. 2. Use equipment Fins - Kevins preference is the Finis Z2 Gold Zoomers. They help with kick and ankle flexibility. Use as a tool while doing drills and some sprint sets. Paddles - Kevin likes the Finis Freestyler paddles because they teach how to pull the right way. He believes some paddles can exacerbate problems in the pull and cause shoulder issues. 3. Strength training He likes to include deckups (pull yourself out of the pool) and pushups with swimming. It results in less yardage, but adds in strength training. Some of these ideals are similar to Brian McKenzie of CrossFIt. He also recommends the use of elastic tubing. 4. Decrease your interval Over a given distance give yourself less rest and decrease your interval. In a Masters swim group this might mean moving up a lane. 5. Play free golf Example workout: 6X50 with 20 to 30 seconds rest. Count your strokes and your time on each 50. Your score is the combination of your time and your strokes for each 50. For each subsequent 50 you want to lower your score. This requires getting more efficient or doing a higher effort while maintaining good form. Subscribe via iTunes
