Lee-Ann is back with another podcast. This time, featuring two lovely ladies from LinkUnite, an exclusive invite-only women's retreat and digital marketing forum that sounds like the perfect combination of a girls' night of breaking the glass ceiling. “Dedicated to lifting up female founders in the digital industry.”Founder and CEO, Amanda Farris and President and COO Sara Malo will be joining Lee-Ann to talk about empowering women in the digital marketing industry. Amanda has worked in tech, real estate, finance, architecture, and design industries and is now sharing her skills in marketing and global communications with the wider world. Sara has been in the marketing industry for 22 years, a topic she regularly talks about in her blog as well as on respected podcasts. With such a women-centred podcast, we're asking, how can women excel in the affiliate marketing industry? Are there any ways that women can help each other excel in the affiliate industry? And why would more women in affiliate marketing be beneficial to the industry as a whole? What can women do to help each other in the affiliate marketing industry?Well, if we're to take LinkUnite as an example, that concept came about with a simple question between two women, Amanda and Sara: are there any events that cater to women in affiliate marketing?Amanda said of her career history, and contribution to women in the industry, “I have basically just meandered my way into really driving home the female initiatives in our industry and uplifting the women in the digital marketing space.”And that starts with simply having the courage to speak up and team up. LinkUnite started as a partnership, and so can a lot of other endeavours. We definitely have a side effect of women in the workplace trying to prove themselves coming to the conclusion that they have to do it alone. Not true. And this podcast gets into the need for partnerships across the genders. Sara says: “Our events that we have that right now, like our event in December, it's women only, but our biggest partners are actually, uh, men.”Amanda adds: “The one-day events that we want to do next year, we want those to be co-ed. We want there to be collaboration, you know, any way that they want to participate and be involved.”Partnerships and teamwork are definitely the key to driving inclusivity, and women aren't the only ones that can support each other – but events like LinkUnite certainly go a long way to promoting the comradery in the industry. How can women excel in the affiliate marketing industry? If we were to take gender stereotypes and run with them, women have a lot of strength in the affiliate marketing management industry. It takes almost a parent's touch. You have to have the assertiveness of the nuclear family father to ask for what you want, but the mother's ability to nurture a relationship and compromise where you need to. This is clear in Amanda, who tells aspiring affiliate managers: “You don't have to have the education, all the certifications or anything to really hop in. You just have to have creativity and a hard work ethic and you can really get anywhere you want to go. And I think that the story sharing aspect is shared experiences is the quickest way for people to learn, grow, and evolve.” How can more women in affiliate marketing management help the industry as a whole? In asking about the industry as a whole, Lee-Ann said: “I deal with affiliate account managers in our training course that are burnt out, they don't know how to progress, they don't know where their careers are going, they feel like they've landed a job that is constantly asking more and more of them, but they have new ideas to.”And Amanda had a great insight, saying: “We want to bring in that next generation, that next group of people, and set them up fo

We're taking on the tech platforms and we're talking about how women are fighting back. To help us unpack these crucial topics, we're joined by two special guests:Danielle Citron: Professor Citron is the Jefferson Scholars Foundation Schenk distinguished professor in law at the University of Virginia law school, where she writes and teaches about privacy, free expression, and civil rights. She is also the author of the recently released book The Fight for Privacy: Protecting Dignity, Identity, and Love in the Digital Age.Jackie Rotman: Jackie Rotman is the founder and CEO of the Center for Intimacy Justice (CIJ), a nonprofit organization focused on creating equity in people's intimate lives. The CIJ is currently working to change policies, attack platforms to allow health ads to be more gender equitable, and allow more ads directed at women and people with vulvas.Check out this episode's landing page at MsMagazine.com for a full transcript, links to articles referenced in this episode, further reading and ways to take action.Tips, suggestions, pitches? When I was planning for this episode, I had a conversation with a friend that I could never forget. She was planning to resign from her company. So I inquired why she was planning to resign. To give you a little background, she was very well established in her career, spent roughly 20 years, and held an executive position at her current company. Her company had experienced massive growth. And there was a high chance that she could get promoted to a much higher position. It didn't make a ton of sense why she wanted to resign as she will have to build her credibility from scratch in the new company. I asked if she wasn't happy with the compensation. She responded with a resounding no. Then I thought maybe it was probably the role or responsibilities with which she might not be happy. But that wasn't the case either. Then I asked. Do you not like your current team or co-workers? She said that she loved her team. Huh? I was clueless as to why she would want to move out. After several more questions, she said my biggest problem is that I am never allowed to go to the board room for meetings even though I am an executive. So I thought, how come meetings could be such a big deal and a potential reason for dissatisfaction at the workplace. I was reflecting on why anyone would lose their life savings for a bunch of meetings. So I asked her why these meetings were so important to her. And what was the primary reason to leave the organization? She said, "to be able to perform my job effectively. I need to be in those meetings." She continued, "I am OK even if they don't let me speak there. Even just listening to them would help." So I asked if she ever tried to approach her superiors and shared her concerns. She said, "she tried numerous times, but the conversation didn't go anywhere." They always brushed her off by saying that you don't want to be in that room with those men. Personally, since I always worked in fairly inclusive workplaces, that didn't make a ton of sense to me. Sure, there would always be minor issues here and there. But I never thought that you would not be allowed into the board room just because you were a female. That got me thinking that although we might be in 2021, we are not over the issues from the 1960s. By not being inclusive and not selecting your teams based on merit, you are only hurting yourself. This story is a reminder that we all need to do our parts of spreading education about inclusiveness in the workplace and how that could impact digital transformation initiatives and growth. When I was planning for the 100th episode of our wildly popular podcast, I had many offers from high-profile celebrities that we could have hosted. But then, I would not be doing my part. So I decided to dedicate this episode to Six amazing women doing fantastic work to promote women in digital transformation. Each of these women has several initiatives to support and encourage women. So no one feels left behind. In this episode, we discussed the factors that are most important to build a digital team. We also discussed several stories where keeping the information in the board room and not including key users resulted in failed digital transformations. Finally, we discussed the importance of communication and why the leaders need to immerse themselves with users to truly understand their needs and not just being lip service and promoting the culture of open and honest communication without fear. For more information on growth strategies for SMBs using ERP and digital transformation, visit our community at wbs.rocks or elevatiq.com. She is an email marketing conversion copywriter and strategist who brings massive value to her clients' businesses with her background in content development, digital strategy, and customer experience. With over a decade of experience working with 7-figure companies, non-profit organizations, and startups, Val has bridged the gap between customers and conversions that enabled her to work with renowned companies such as Beacon, AccessAlly, Women In Digital, and ConvertKit.   Val joins me today to share some of the most significant changes that has happened in her business and the turning point that made her realize she didn't want to work full-time. She explains why she focuses her efforts on business-to-consumer (B2C) companies as well as why she believes in value-based pricing. She also discusses why not everyone should specialize in email marketing, when to hire a specialist, and how her specialization affected how she prices her services and filters potential clients.   “I'm not saying everyone should specialize in email, because I don't think everyone should unless you care about it. But specializing has opened up so many opportunities for me that wouldn't otherwise exist.” - Val Geisler     This Week on the Get Paid Podcast:   Why Val “left” her business in 2016 to work full-time with a small company and why she eventually decided to quit her full-time job to continue building her business. The difference between horizontal and vertical specialization. Why Val added a vertical specialization element to her business to help clients with onboarding and retention. What customer churn is and what your goal as a business should be concerning your churn. The steps she took to build her brand and name in email onboarding in less than a year. Val's current rates, expenses, and the services she offers. Why she always starts with an ‘email marketing audit' when working with new clients and how she vets new clients. Why Val decided to host a paid email marketing workshop specifically for copywriters, how it led her to create the Email Marketing Masters incubator program and the benefits of each level of the program. How specializing her products and services gave her the confidence to charge higher prices and the ability to sell out a $5k program. Val's projected total revenue for 2019.   Resource Mentioned:   You Made it Weird Podcast with Pete Holmes Episode 29: Pivoting, Rebranding, and “Leaving” Your Business (GPP29) Philip Morgan User On Board Website Freckle Time Tracker The Future is {F}emailShirt by Logan Sandrock Shirts on Amazon Joanna Wiebe – The 10x Freelance Copywriter   Connect with Val Geisler:   Val Geisler Website Val Geisler on Twitter Val Geisler on Medium Free PDF!

Amy began her passion for marketing while in school at Emerson College in Boston, MA. Originally a Journalism Major, she found that she enjoyed helping businesses grow, and switched over to Advertising and Public Relations. Following school she joined the series of hyper local news sites, Patch.com where she met and helped many small business owners with their online presence. While getting them running on Patch, she discovered their need for help with marketing, digital marketing in particular. She often found herself assisting with SEO, social media, and other ad buys. As the daughter of a small business owner, she knew how much work it took to run a company, and how little time there was remaining for all the extra pieces involved in a marketing campaign. After leaving Patch in early 2014 she decided to start Hub Digital, continuing to help small businesses figure out how to stand out. Amy loves reality TV, reading, and traveling. However, she spends a majority of her free time doting after her favorite animal, and company mascot, Hubble the French Bulldog. She and "Hubs" enjoy eating, going for long walks when the weather is nice, playing tug-of-war, napping, and of course just hanging around looking adorable.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Unfortunately, fewer women are interested in participating in the digital sector, be it higher education, jobs or entrepreneurship. The recent study conducted by the European Union demonstrated that only 24 out of every 1000 female graduates study ICT related subjects - of which only six go on to work in the digital sector, therefore widening the gender gap in digital. The statistics in the USA and other countries are not that much different. But there are strategies to reverse this trend, and they range from not only having role models at the C-Suite level but role models in executive management and management. Role models that encourage women to pursue positions in digital. In this broadcast, we speak with a woman whose passion lies in the digital sector and is an example of determination and success. As the digital advertising and media landscapes changes, we explore how can women contribute and lead the way.
