Born and raised in South Louisiana, Chef Craig was inspired by his family meals and his grandmother's cooking. His heart and soul are Southern, which transcends into his cooking. After working in some of the world's most renowned restaurants, opening two of his own restaurants in Louisiana, and honing recipes as a private chef, Chef Craig and his wife Kristen moved to Southern California. They began feeding their friends and neighbors from their home kitchen when the pandemic hit. By the end of COVID, they were turning out more than 80 meals per day. The most popular meal was his fried chicken, inspired by his Southern roots and first made famous by Chef Craig in Aspen at the 7908 Supper Club. The idea to open a fast-casual restaurant devoted to his popular fried chicken took on a life of its own, and Le Coupé was born. The name for Le Coupé in French translates to "The Cut." The cut of Chef Craig's fried chicken thigh makes his chicken unique. He uses a technique that frenches the bone of the thigh while keeping the meat intact, allowing for a unique flavor profile and presentation. The name is also a nod to being all cooped up during the quarantine. Le Coupé has become a local sensation in the burgeoning Melrose Hill area of Los Angeles. This husband-and-wife operation was named the best fried chicken sandwich in California by Yelp -- and everyone who tries it! For Chef Craig, Le Coupé represents an opportunity to showcase his take on Southern cuisine inspired by a Cajun-French saying – lagniappe. Which means "a little extra." Chef Craig and Kristen, a former event planner, ensure everyone visiting Le Coupé feels like the experience was a little extra. Today we chat with Chef Craig and Kristen, the founders of Le Coupe about:

Have you ever felt like reading and studying the scriptures is just another item to add to your to-do list instead of feeling like the spiritual highlight of your day? Well, perhaps you can find yourself an "SOS scripture." This is a verse or set of verses from the scriptures that you can turn to whenever you might need a moment of peace or strength from the Lord. Perhaps it's one you've memorized or stuck to your bathroom mirror. These SOS scriptures are a perfect example of how to get a lot out of a little, and that's what today's guest Kristen Walker Smith is doing. She has made it a personal mission of hers to make scripture study the spiritual highlight of her day, and she has been sharing that mission with others! "How scripture study feels is so much more important than how it looks." Top takeaways: Having an "SOS scripture" can be helpful for us to have whenever we might need a moment of inspiration from the Lord, and it doesn't require reading an entire chapter to feel that spiritual nourishment! Even taking one minute a day to reflect on the scriptures can bring you closer to the Lord and feel the promises of scripture study. Opening up the scriptures is a way to receive personal revelation and learn how much God loves us. It's worth it to make a habit of scripture study, even when we don't feel like we're getting anything out of it, because those moments of peace will surely come. Small and simple challenge: as you study the scriptures, even just one verse, look for 1) the point of the passage, 2) how you can make it personal, and then 3) add power to the verse by taking action on it. In particular they focus on imagery, Isaiah's use of the Abrahamic Covenant, and recognizing how verses flow together in Isaiah's writings. They explore chapters 2-4 as they do this. Full disclosure: Ever since my client Terece first told me she was planning to write a book (a lifelong dream of hers), I knew I'd eventually want to bring her back on the podcast to talk about it. I've had the joy of seeing Terece's massive transformation over the last few years from a self-doubting people-pleaser (see my original interview with her on ditching perfectionism) to someone who's confident in who she is and is committed to expressing herself authentically. Because of that, I knew her book-writing journey would be profound. Now that she's completed her book and is in the final stages of editing and promoting it (make sure to check out her pre-sale campaign!), she's back to share just how intense, vulnerable, emotional, and ultimately satisfying it's been to turn her vision into a reality. Listen in to hear Terece and I talk about… How she'd ignored her dream for so long that she actually forgot about it … and what she did to bring it back to life. The fears that have come up along the way, and how she's worked through them. What she's discovered about her own creative process, and how she's learned to flow with her creative intuition while still sticking to a structure to keep her accountable. A few teasers about her book, and where the idea originally came from. Her best advice for anyone with a big creative dream who's been putting it off because of fear or overwhelm. After you've listened, leave a comment to let us know how Terece's story resonated with you. MORE ABOUT TERECE HAHN Attached is my debut novel and passion project. The good, the bad, and the deep. It is equal parts terrifying and exciting to share this story with you all as well as my journey on how I got here. Defender Radio: The Podcast for Wildlife Advocates and Animal Lovers
More than two dozen incidents of coyotes scratching and biting people have occurred in Vancouver's Stanley Park since December 2020. You've likely seen media coverage of this – and yes, much of it has been wildly sensational with a great deal of guess work. But the truth is difficult to find in this series of events. Factually, we're aware of many pieces of evidence: coyotes are a natural part of the landscape in Canada and British Columbia; Stanley Park is not just a park, but a massive forest and ecosystem; prior to 2020, only a handful of bites or interactions had occurred with coyotes; and, as everyone agrees, these behaviours are concerning. In much of the media coverage, however, entire swatches of fact are left out, such as the massive shift in human use of the park following the start and progression of the coronavirus pandemic, or the apparent lack of enforcement of feeding bylaws and park use restrictions. This coverage also leaves out the nuance often necessary in a conversation about evidence and ecosystems, something that numerous advocates and experts have noted. As such, this special report is an in-depth conversation with Dr. Kristen Walker, a professor at UBC who has worked on the ground in Stanley Park recently to collect evidence and begin forming an understanding of changes to coyote behaviour. Our interview was recorded approximately one week ago – and as static media, may not include the most recent information or news. This week's episode art is a trail camera capture of a coyote in Stanley Park, provided by Dr. Kristen Walker. Terece Hahn had it all — the job she’d always dreamed of, a 6-figure income, a loving husband, the ability to travel and buy a home and do all the things she loved. And yet, she was miserable. Her job was making her burnt out, anxious, depressed, and totally unsure of herself. Her confidence took a nosedive, and she started questioning everything in her life. So what do you do when your dream job turns into a nightmare? Terece used that experience as a catalyst to go on a deep inner journey of figuring out who she is, what really matters to her, and what she wants most out of life. And now, two years later, she feels like a completely different — and much happier — person. For this week’s Magic 8 Ball throwback episode, we’re re-airing a normal person interview we did back in 2018. Listen in to hear Kristen ask Terece about: Her story about feeling lost and directionless after leaving school and getting a “real job.” How she built back up her confidence after it hit an all-time low. The huge perspective shift that helped her quiet her inner critic voice and start liking herself more than she ever thought was possible. How perfectionism used to run her life, and how she’s finally starting to let it go. Ways in which she’s started speaking up for herself and being her own best advocate. The challenges of setting (and actually sticking to) boundaries when you’re a people pleaser … as well as the freedom that exists on the other side. Why people pleasers flock to helping professions and quickly get burnt out. How changing your life can be simpler than you think if you start small. After you’ve listened, leave a comment to let us know how Terece’s story resonates with you! MORE ABOUT TERECE My name is Terece Hahn. Professionally, I am an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, and I hold a Doctor of Nurse Practice (DNP) diploma. I am at the highest level of my education in my profession, and I achieved this about as early as a person can achieve this level of education. Making 6 figures as a new graduate, married to an amazing man, being able to travel, and afford things that I have always wanted should’ve meant happiness and success. Emphasis on SHOULD. I was the person that had it all and was miserable. I knew there was more to life than this, but did not know how to get there. I had been banking that once I started my new career, making the money I did, that I would be happy. Jump to the desperate Google search of "What do I want to be when I grow up?" Which lead me to the Passion Profile Quiz, then to Clarity on Fire 1:1 coaching with Kristen Walker, where I rediscovered who I was, what my values are, and why the HELL I was so miserable. I am a normal person who, without the help from Kristen and Rachel’s business and podcasts, would have had to dredge for many years to accomplish the self confidence, love, and belief in myself that I didn’t even know existed. My journey is in the beginning stages of its existence, but you can’t unlearn what you have learned; there is no going back. It is like a small fire was lit, and with each day that I cultivate it, with self-care, naps, being kind to myself, and understanding my values, I am able to slowly stoke that fire to burn more brightly every day. GETTING OVER PEOPLE PLEASING IS COMING BACK! Caring too much about what other people think is one of the TOP reasons people struggle to know who they are or what they want out of life. Before you can find direction, it helps to get to the root of one of your deepest blocks! Our course, Getting Over People Pleasing, will be open for enrollment on Friday, August 21! This course will NOT be available 24/7. If we offer it again, it won’t be for another year. It will last for about 4 weeks, and during that time you'll get weekly video lessons and workbook prompts. There will be a private forum so that you, and the other members of the group, can ask us questions and share your stories. This course is for people who want to bridge the gap between knowing what they should be doing … and actually doing it. Consider this course a fun-yet-challenging boot camp of sorts! We're going to help you heal some old wounds that keep you trapped in the need to please and get desensitized to the discomfort of things like setting boundaries, saying no, and speaking up for yourself. This course will be action-oriented. Yes, there will be some teaching, but everything we teach is going to be actionable. And we're going to hold you accountable for taking that action! By the end, we know you'll feel a LOT freer, calmer, more confident, resilient, and most importantly — CLEAR. Join the VIP list for first dibs on some special treats when enrollment opens. We have never specifically covered the topic of the atonement on this podcast. Our guest Kristen Walker Smith has an incredible lesson that shares why the atonement is so perfectly FOR teens. She talks about 5 specific ways that teens face such a difficult time in their lives, and may be at risk for distancing themselves from God. When we really understand this, we can run toward him and use the atonement to its fullest potential. This message is simple, and beautiful, and true. Christ is enough for you. We promise. We all love our students, that is why we chose this path. But as all teachers eventually discover, passion and long hours alone don't get the job done. As a professional in the ever-changing educational system, it is all too easy to feel like you must sacrifice your personal life in order to be an effective teacher. We stay in the classroom as the parking lot empties, we bring our work home with us, and still find ourselves writing tomorrow's lesson plans after dinner. There doesn't seem to be enough time in the day to keep up with all of our school related duties, let alone spend time with our families and kids and give ourselves the occasional mental break. We have all felt like this, but fortunately for us, so has our friend Kristen. In this bonus episode of our podcast, I sit down with elementary school teacher and Easy Teaching Tools founder, Kristen Walker. Kristen has been an educator since 2005, and like so many of us, she struggled to carve out time for her personal life while still feeling like she was dedicated to her students. Over the years, though, she has discovered that organization and efficiency are the keys to being an effective teacher, not just being the last person to leave everyday. She now passes her knowledge along in the form of her company Easy Teaching Tools in hopes of helping teachers everywhere make better use of their time while regaining some sanity. By organizing daily tasks into simple, easy to implement programs you can streamline your approach to teaching and make a big impact in the classroom. Want to leave school at 3 everyday AND rekindle your love of teaching? Kristen's got you covered.

Listen to episode 80 to hear how my guest, Kristen Walker Smith, has learned to think of weakness as a blessing as she has dealt with OCD and motherhood at the same time. Episode Summary Kristen experienced a sudden onset of OCD when she got pregnant with her first child. However, it wasn’t until two and a half years later, when her mom asked her about her excessive hand washing, that Kristen was officially diagnosed. In the episode, Kristen shares how she navigated OCD and motherhood at the same time. She talks about how she saw God showing up. In addition, she discusses how God didn’t fill in all the gaps but covered the most essential things. Kristen says she wasn’t very open with others about her struggles. She shares how others saw her needs and helped and supported her even though she wasn’t opening up. One of the biggest things Kristen has learned from her struggles is how to reframe her thoughts about weakness. Kristen shares how she came to understand that her weaknesses were giving her children exactly what they needed. Kristen also shares advice for anyone struggling with a weakness (hello, that’s all of us!) to let others in and to list the blessings that weakness is bringing into your life. Overall, Kristen shares her belief that you can’t have fear and faith at the same time. She chooses faith. Kristen shares her witness of how God helps us through our weaknesses. Kristen’s Quotes “I was so mad, but I took time to pray about it and I realized, you know what, God put me on the earth at this time when there is medication for what I’m dealing with. Why would I refuse that blessing that he’s put on this earth. And so the combination of a very good therapist and medication has made all the difference and that’s when things really switched.” “My weaknesses were blessing them to create strengths of their own through Christ. Christ’s strength was resting on them wherever my weaknesses were.” “It is impossible for gratitude and fear to live in the same space and I found that when times would get truly overwhelming, I just had to go back to that list and remember God is blessing me in this trial right now.” “And so even though so much of my motherhood fell to the wayside, God blessed me with the ability to do what was absolutely eternally vital.” Episode Links OCD Workbook 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 Get Kristen’s FREE scripture study Come Follow Me kits Listen to Related Episodes SMM 021: Chasing Your Dreams + Turning to God in Post-Partum Depression || Amanda Anderson SMM 051: Hope in the Arms of the Savior in Mental Health Challenges || Jamie Hutchings SMM 037: How to Create Thoughts to Love Your Children Better || Lisa Funk Follow Kristen Instagram: @kristenwalkersmith Website: kristenwalkersmith.com YouTube: Kristen Smith Follow Spiritually Minded Mom Website: spirituallymindedmom.com Instagram: @spirituallymindedmom Facebook: spirituallymindedmom Podcast: Spiritually Minded Mom on Apple Podcasts

Not #CrushingIt is Okay Rachel East is a Certified Professional Coach and co-founder of Clarity on Fire with her business partner and best friend Kristen Walker. Clarity on Fire Coaching was created based on Rachel and Kristen's experiences with mind-numbing, unfulfilling work and their unwillingness to accept the status quo. The coaching is geared towards millennials “who know what they don't want but don't know what they'd rather be doing”, which was how they felt coming out of college. Rachel majored in Communications and Public Relations because she knew it was where she would flourish. When she graduated she gladly took a job she was offered as it was tough time economically (after the 2008 recession), and there was a lot of fear surrounding employment. Rachel found her position as an Events and Promotions Co-ordinator wasn't ultimately something she cared deeply about. In figuring out what she did want led her to pursue life coaching. It encompassed many of her passions including self-development and therapy. The Passion Profile Quiz that Clarity on Fire developed helps uncover your passion (the content) as well as how it can be expressed in your ideal working environment (the context). Rachel coaches a lot of self-defined perfectionists that are feeling burnt out. There is a mindset in society that we need to be busy to be worthy. Almost everyone struggles with this notion which is why Rachel's message is so important. Have no fear if you like your free time, don't want to build an empire, aren't a huge fan of social media, or, as Rachel puts it, you don't want to be a #girlboss or ‘crush it'. There are many ways to approach being a successful entrepreneur. Rachel's wrote her blog post Confession: I Have No Desire to be a #girlboss out of frustration when she was feeling burnt out. There was a strong response from people from various professional backgrounds. She knew that she had hit on something that many felt but few articulated as it isn't a prevalent societal attitude. Rachel and those who responded to her post discussed defining success and passion for yourself and adhering to your values to discover a working environment that will lead to personal fulfilment. 12:10 Rachel's professional journey leading her to Clarity on FIre 15:25 Question from Julia, a member of The Connected Yoga Teacher Facebook Group about passion and fulfilment 19:50 Quality vs. Quantity- how focusing on numbers can negatively impact your business and outlook 21:05 Re-defining what success means to you 23:55 Authenticity has a bigger impact than presenting an airbrushed image 24:55 Rachel's blog post Confession: I Have No Desire to be a #girlboss and how it resonated with so many 28:15 How strong boundaries give you freedom as an entrepreneur 29:30 Business is one aspect of your life, avoid co-dependence. After throwing it back to the days of depressed Netflix binge-watching and cubicle panic attacks in our Courage episode, I'm so excited to dig into the Clarity episode with Rachel East & Kristen Walker! After all, their website & business is Clarity On Fire and they definitely live up to the name in this episode. It's the grand finale of Season 2 of the Courage & Clarity podcast, and I couldn't imagine two more perfect guests for playing us out with a bang. This week I'm joined by Rachel East and Kristen Walker of Clarity on Fire, two incredible career & life coaches for millennial who feel stuck. I've been following Rachel & Kristen for a long time now (I mentioned them a while ago on The Fizzle Show as one of my very favorite emails I get each week -- and I'm only subscribed to a few!) I was excited to "meet" Rachel & Kristen, but what I couldn't know in advance was how much fun they were to talk to and how effortlessly we connected via the airwaves. It was kind of magical, guys, and I hope you can hear it too! In this Courage episode, we're digging into how these two best friends started a business together in the first place, starting all the way back at the beginning for each of them individually. Some of the highlights you'll hear: How to assess whether you should go into business with your BFF - or anyone else for that matter! Why your reality might not be completely true, and the way your current circumstances may be playing tricks on youWhat happens when you challenge the way you've always seen the world (hint: amazing transformation!)What it's like when you know this can't be it, but you have no idea what to do next (aka, feeling totally stuck) How being young & naive might actually be a good thing sometimesWhy Rachel, Kristen nor I have no interest in being a #girlboss (and what we're all doing instead!)
