Saturday, April 12th is Record Store Day, and Black Stone Cherry are one of many bands and artists taking part and releasing an exclusive Record Store Day album called This Is Black Stone Cherry's RSD Release...And The Band Really Loves it. Lead singer Chris Robertson and I dig into the album, being proud papas, and what's next for the Kentucky Music Hall of Famers.
She truly needs no introduction as she has become one the most well-known voices in the world of rock music. Scratch that. She's become one of the most well-known voices in music. We know her as Halestorm's lead singer, but last year, she was also the fill-in singer with Skid Row. She's put out duets with everyone from Brooks & Dunn to I Prevail. Joining us from somewhere in Georgia as Halestorm puts the final touches on a new album due out later this year, we have a soul-searching conversation about music and what it truly means to be a part of music history.
Lzzy dives into her expansive professional journey as an artist, gets vulnerable about the early doubts and struggles she faced, shares the surreal full-circle moments of working with Sevendust and Skid Row, spills never-before-shared secrets of Halestorm's history, and picks HER most jaw-dropping female artist she'd love to work with.
Pat says goodbye, Jon Bon Jovi says Lzzy needs to stay put and, the oldest person ever to win an Emmy.

When I heard that Lzzy Hale had signed on to help the Skid Row guys for 4 shows, I was stoked! I was excited for the band, excited for the people who would see her sing live, and excited for Lzzy! After the first show was in the books, I texted Skid Row bassist, Rachel Bolan and drummer, Rob Hammersmith. Both of them were giddy with how the weekend went. That's when I decided to ask Rachel if he'd come on my Talkin' Rock with Meltdown podcast to talk about it. "We had one rehearsal before the first show, and she blew us away." - Rachel Bolan Rachel told me how the ball started to roll at producer, Nick Raskulinecz's birthday party. "I was like, "Hey, man, would you want to step in and do a few shows with Skid Row?" And she, you know, after we kind of cleared out what exactly the shows were because we, you know, I think she kind of thought we were just going to jam at like the Mercy Lounge or something. But, so when we cleared that up, she said, yes. "Let me talk to my, my, team and my people and I'll have an answer for you." And the next day or a couple of days later, I was like, "Hey, man, were you serious about that?" She's like, yeah, it's a go. And we were all excited." "She unleashed that first scream, and we were all just like, whoa." - Rachel Bolan Rachel went on to say that they only rehearsed once before their first show. Lzzy said that she was holding back a little as to not blow out her voice. Then it was time to take the stage. "When we took the stage, 'Slave to the Grind", she unleashed. Unleashed that first scream. I was just like, I'm actually getting chills thinking about it right now. I was we're all just kind of looking at each other like, whoa" He couldn't heap enough praise on the Halestorm front woman. "You know, when someone is great at what they do, people appreciate it. They appreciated Lzzy because she is great. She's just freaking great!" He said the energy on stage was off the charts. "And you could you could feel the energy on stage. And, a few of my friends that said I've never seen you smile so much. You're always like the punk rock don't smile, guy. You know, like you're laughing up there, you're smiling and you're interacting, you know? So it was really cool, man. And we got two more. And I just feel like that's like another nine days and I'm like, climbing wall of, like, what do you know?" The other two shows he's referring to are in Reno, Nevada, and Sacramento, California. "Lzzy Hale is one of the best vocalists on the planet." - Rachel Bolan When I commented that Lzzy is such a badass, Rachel agreed. "You know, you just said something that is, descriptive that everyone has been saying, and that's badass. Man, it's so perfect because she is a badass. She's a beast on stage, man. She's great."

MMRBQ 2024 is on sale NOW! Pierre Robert and Lzzy Hale of Halestorm had a chat live on the air today about the band's return to the MMRBQ stage this September. They talk about Halestorm's earliest connections with WMMR and Philadelphia, as well as their friendships with some of the other artists on the lineup. Lzzy tells a very cool story of how she once gifted a guitar to Dany from the Warning, as a way to 'pay it forward' since one of her musical heroes did the same thing many years ago. Plus, it's International Women's Day (March 8th) so the two give lots of love to the female voices of rock n' roll. See more and get MMRBQ tickets at WMMR.com/Pierre
It's ALWAYS great to talk with Lzzy Hale. She's so easy to chat with and very candid every time we speak. She spoke to being a mid-state Pennsylvania kid, meeting and playing with her heroes. She mentioned that she grew up in a house that was built in the 1840's, so I had to ask her if she'd ever seen a ghost in that old home. Let's just say, she didn't say no. As far as Halestorm is concerned, she said it's "Complete Chaos". They're going to buckle down next month and get to writing. She tells me how they write songs and what the process involves. Plus, she talks about a song she wrote that she never thought would see the light of day, which they did record. Let's just say it became a hit. "There's always a handful of songs (that she writes) that I think are dumb." That's a sexy story. LOL As far as collaborations go, she told me how the Ashly McBryde collab came up. "It was a full on "F&*k Yes!"" She went onto say "She exceeded my expectations" as for how the song went. We talked about the Journey cover she did with Chris Daughtry, who also sent me a question for her to answer. That was funny as well. If you're watching this, you'll see a piano in the background. I stumped her with naming musicians who've played on it. That was very entertaining. She did tell me about a metal legend who had tickled the ivory at her house. Really cool! I'll talk to Lzzy anytime she wants me to. She's the best! -Meltdown-

Since Halestorm started their career, lead vocalist Lzzy Hale has never been afraid to speak her truth....and with the band's new single, "Terrible Things" (featuring guest vocals from country star Ashley McBryde), she takes an unflinching look at how the world around us has gone to shit...but, as always with Lzzy, there is a glimmer of hope.
This week, we're scratching some names off our interview wish list for episode 150! Arejay Hale is best known as the drummer half of the brother/sister duo behind Halestorm, alongside his sister Lzzy. Taylor Carroll is best known as the drummer for Lit. Together, these dearest brothers are preparing to debut the first music under their new moniker KemikalFire. Their first single, "Dead and Gone," premieres Friday, April 14th. In preparation, the guys joined us to discuss the making of the single, their love for previous Itch guests Scott Stevens and Kevin Baldes, and PLUS, Taylor takes "supportive boyfriend" to a new level, and Arejay's alter ego Dr. Magnifiscent stops by to give The Itch tips on staying smelly! And if that wasn't enough, stick around for a cameo from an important and oft-mentioned member of The Itch team! UPDATE: Since this episode's release, KemikalFire's debut song (and video) "Dead and Gone" has been released, and it does not disappoint! Plus, their second ever live performance is May 3rd at The Basement East in Nashville! And The Itch just might be there... Daughtry lead singer Chris Daughtry just put out a cover song. Now normally that's not a big deal but when you release a cover on the song's 40th anniversary and include Lzzy Hale from Halestorm, it's a big deal. Plus, it's really good. The song is "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) by Journey and it's definitely a modern/heavy take on the classic rock song. Chris is back on the Rockcast to discuss why this song exists, working with Lzzy, how he keeps his voice in shape, and his take on full albums vs. singles.
This is probably the fourth or fifth time I've interviewed Chris, and every conversation is better than the last. Yes, I'm a fan of Daughtry professionally and personally. He's a really solid guy and very talented. He gets a little more in-depth about why he covered Journey's "Separate Ways" with Lzzy Hale. "Lzzy and I have been talking about doing a duet, whether it be an original or a cover, for a long time. When we did that acoustic tour she came out on one of the dates and did an acoustic cover of Alice In Chains' 'Man In The Box', and, I was thinking "Maybe we should record that" and then this idea came up, I was like "Hey, would you be interested in covering 'Separate Ways'?" She responded that was her go-to karaoke song, and they were on their way. That's just for starters with Chris. Tripp Eisen is up next. We discuss everything from Dope to Static X to the Murderdolls. What's his relationships like with some of his former bandmates? Why isn't he in the new incarnation of Static X? What was his last encounter with Wayne Static like? (That was an interesting story) What's he got going on in 2023? These questions and many more were answered. -Meltdown- https://wrif.com/2023/01/19/chris-daughtry-talks-about-covering-journey-with-lzzy-hale-the-rock-community-plans-for-2023-and-more-meltdown/ https://wrif.com/2023/01/20/tripp-eisen-talks-dope-static-x-murderdolls-and-much-more-meltdown/ https://daughtryofficial.com/ https://www.trippeisen.com/ https://wrif.com/podcasts/talkin-rock-with-meltdown/

Hard rock outfit Halestorm are riding high on the universal success of their latest album Back From The Dead, a vicious slab of rock/metal that served to solidify Halestorm's ever growing presence on the global music scene.Spawned two decades ago by a mutual love of music between siblings Lzzy and Arejay Hale, Halestorm have earnt themselves Grammy nominations and traversed the globe, building a reputation as a formidable live outfit and powerful sonic force. With Halestorm heading back to Australia early in 2023 for a run of shows with Theory, vocalist Lzzy Hale sat down with HEAVY to discuss the rise and rise of the band."We haven't seen you guys for so long," she almost apologised, "and it's well overdue. We've been talking (laughs) about if rock show was a verb, you guys in Australia rock show very well. You know how to properly rock show (laughs). I feel like everything that comes before you is just a warm up for the craziness that I know will ensue.""We're so excited that instead of us fully preparing for winter time in Europe we've been talking about what we're going to wear in Australia," she continued, laughing. "It's gonna be a time. There's something that always happens every time we come over there. Either we wander off and meet a bunch of locals and party until 6 am, or we just end up hanging out with a motley crew of some of our rock friends. There's something` always happens, so we're looking forward to saying yes to adventure."When we press Lzzy on what things Halestorm have planned for Australian audiences she flashes that winning smile once more."So many delightful things," she teased. "Obviously we're gonna have to debut some of these new songs off the new album for the first time in Oz, so we're gonna be doing that. We plug in, we play, it's a rock show. We're gonna be switching our set up every night to make sure we give everybody everything that they possibly need, but I also have heard from a bunch of our super fans that they're gonna be coming to multiple shows so we'll keep it interesting for them."In the full interview, Lzzy reveals why they chose Theory as touring partners, tells us some funny stories about time on the road with them, the subject matters raised on Back From The Dead, the response to that album, the early days of Halestorm, being in a band with her brother, the reality of life as a rock star compared to the childhood dream, a message for fans and more.
It was so much fun doing this Podcast with Lzzy Hale from Halestorm for the LA Lloyd Rock 30 Hale-O-Ween special. On the day that Halestorm's awaited new album 'Back From the Dead' has been released I'm excited for this conversation. Lzzy Hale as the amazing frontwoman of Halestrom has been a trailblazer since their self-titled release debut in 2009. The pandemic though threw a wrench in the fire for most of us, even giant rockstars like Lzzy Hale. (This conversation was prerecorded a couple of weeks before the album's release.)

New single, new album on the way, and a date at Summerfest - we've got a LOT to talk about with Lzzy!
We first met actor Topher Grace back when he was just making a name for himself on the long running FOX series “That 70's Show”…but he went on to star in such movies as diverse as “Traffic”, “Spiderman 3” and “BlackKklansman”…but now he's back to his roots on television as the star of the ABC series, “Home Economics”…and we caught up with this morning to talk about playing bad guys, family and much more!! PLUS… Halestorm's Lzzy Hale is not only a Grammy winning rock star with movie star looks and a voice that can blow the doors off of any concert venue…but she's also one of the kindest and real human beings on the planet…and she's made a connection with her audience unlike any other rock star today. And now with a new album, “Back From The Dead” coming out in May, the band as gearing up to hit the road alongside The Pretty Reckless and lay waste to concert stages all summer long! We talked to Lzzy this morning, and as always, she was just flat out wonderful to talk to.

Once more, into the breach, my friends... This week, we're diving back into the rabbit hole of music, comparing and reviewing each other's favorite albums. Definitely-Not-A-Metal-Fan-Toby gives his decidedly vocal opinion of both Halestorm and Motörhead, offering some constructive criticism... also some not-so-constructive criticism. On the other side of the aisle, Jesse is forced to give his honest thoughts on Patsy Cline and Rick Astley. This can only end well...
Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale is our guest this week! Lzzy also speaks about how revisiting past years' music brings back distinct personal memories of those years, the upcoming David Bowie tribute concerts that she will be participating in, her upcoming role hosting the She Rocks Awards, and an update on the progress of the next Halestorm record. The Metallica community was saddened to hear Sunday evening that Ray Burton has passed away. As many of you know, Ray was the father of the late, great Cliff Burton, one of the most beloved and influential musicians in recent history. Since Cliff's passing in 1986, Ray Burton has been a spiritual fixture in the Metallica family. Supportive through the transitions of the two successors of Cliff's position in Metallica, Ray was often seen at shows meeting fans and cheering the band on. For our 100th episode, Ray was kind enough to grant us an interview, sharing with us details about Cliff as a child, the ascension of Metallica, Cliff's death and preserving his legacy through the years. Ray's passing is a deeply felt loss for many of us. He brought light to anyone who knew him and he will be missed. We love you Ray! Thank you for everything! Rest in peace, friend! On this episode we talk about James getting out of rehab and making his first public appearance at the Reclaimed Rust exhibit in Los Angeles later this month, the AWMH Foundation's generous contribution to the Australian wildfires, Kirk's collaboration at Abbey Road with Peter Green, and, of course, we recap all the fun shenanigans of our 3 year anniversary party which culminated with a beautifully put together montage video of listeners from all over the world and a few notable guests to commemorate us surpassing 1 million downloads. It was a fun, emotional night. If you couldn't be there, this episode is the next best thing. Special thanks are in order to Chris Yerges, who went above and beyond (as usual) to make this party special for us and fellow MUYP family. To all of you who traveled (Eric, Dave, Alex, Nicole, Sacha, Blake, Sean, Blazeck, Lyons and others) long distances to attend, to the Cobra for hosting, to Lzzy and Joe from Halestorm for participating in the raffles, Alex and Chris for donating to the raffles, and to our beloved Paul Moak for hanging out and looking cool in a leather jacket. We're proud of what we've accomplished with Metal Up Your Podcast and it simply could not have been done without the support of the above people and all of you who listen, leave reviews, engage on social media and support us on Patreon. Made It In Music: Interviews With Artists, Songwriters, And Music Industry Pros
Lzzy Hale and her 10 year old brother were about to play a county fair. Minutes before going on, her brother decided they needed a name. Ever since, the award winning band, “Halestorm” has been creating hits and sharing their music with the world.Their story of how they made it in music was not easy. They began playing small gigs and posting flyers wherever they could. Then, they thought, “How do we get on the front page of the paper?” Which lead to a rotating upside down drum kit with Lzzy’s little brother strapped in which you can watch here.Success takes hard work! They were constantly asking, “How are we going to push this a little further”? They also did not find the right people immediately. “Not only the key for being in a band, but just for surviving the industry period- it’s just having the right people around you”How did they keep the same four people for sixteen years? They each have respect for one another, know how to fight and not throw the whole thing away and have to stay positive, celebrating the little things. “It’s like 4 pillars- without one, all 3 would crumble to the ground”.Want to know the formula for a perfect band?Treating it like a family, Open communication,Gratitude,Musicianship,Hard work!!“Cheers to the low times; cheers to when you break down. It’s the thing you remember- It just means that you’re working. Keep your flame in front of you! There are a lot of opinions but you have to fight to stay true to yourself. For Halestorm’s latest album, they never let anyone hear a demo before their album was put out so that they could stay true to themselves.“If I die tomorrow I want to make sure I’m proud of what I put out”“Turns out, you never run out of dreams. Just keep adding things to the bucket list”Listen as Lzzy shares how they overcame their challenges and turned them into their advantages. Also listen as she describes how they expanded their fan base and retained fans. One important way:“Never underestimate the power of being nice” See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Lzzy Hale is one of the most prominent female voices in metal/rock today as she has fronted the band Halestorm for two decades. Hey freaks! Time to scream until your skulls explode, because this right here, is apocalyptic! Lzzy Hale has never exactly been one to play by the rules, or to conform to expectations. She is a child of the 90's, but was baptized into the church of 70's and 80's rock and roll and dove in head first, worshipping at the altar of the "foremothers of rock" like Ann Wilson, Joan Jett & Pat Benatar. She emerged and formed Halestorm, combining vocals that can seduce you one moment only to punch you in the face the next with her bandmates thunderous, buzzsaw cocktail of 90's grunge and nu metal. Throw in giant hooks and enough pop polish to make her foremothers proud and you have Halestorm.Justin sits down with Lzzy to talk about Halestorm's new album "Vicious", and what it's like being an influencer and foremother in her own right. Plus her takes on advocating for mental health and being that cartoon character that someone out there needs to see and why representation matters more than ever.Enjoy! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/themaydaypodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/themaydaypodcast/support
You asked for it; you got it! Lzzy Hale and Joe Hottinger of Halestorm are sharing stories about the making of their new album “Vicious,” their best Spinal Tap moments (mostly involving Lzzy’s brother & band drummer Arejay), opening for DIO, and the stage mishaps that make for the most interesting memories! Lzzy’s also talking about advice she’s received from some of her musical heroes like Pat Benatar and Heart, what it’s like being a woman in an industry dominated by men, and why she’s immersed herself in learning Randy Rhoads guitar solos.
It's always a pleasure whenever a Grammy Award Winning artist joins us on the podcast but none have been as fun and energetic as Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale who is this week's special guest co-host and she is ready to chat all things Vicious, the band's fourth studio album which saw the Nashville natives recruiting heavy music (and Halestorm) fan Nick Raskulinecz who was more than willing to whip the awesome foursome into shape, whilst also being a bit self-indulgent in helping them make the album he (as a fan) wanted to hear. Lzzy also reveals some of the major struggles she has faced being the frontwoman for a rock band including (jokingly) finding a clean bathroom when you're surrounded by male only bandmates and crew and on a more serious side how industry people didn't accept or take her seriously until she made it, something she didn't buy into too much, but would always be in the back of her mind. There's also a shit-tonne of New Music on the playlist including Thrice, Atticus Chimps and mother-fuckin Beartooth who officially announced their new Disease this week, as well as the new Australian supergroup Wither featuring members of Belle Haven, Dream On, Dreamer and Pridelands. Plus there's plenty of throwbacks from Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine, KISS, Iron Maiden and heaps more… #WoSATW #LzzyHale #Halestorm #Vicious #InThisMoment #RobHalford #JudasPriest #BulletForMyValentine #BFMV #Wither #AustralianBands #Shinedown #AvengedSevenfold #A7X #IronMaiden #KISS #BadWolves #Thrice #Beartooth #AtticusChimps #TrophyEyes #WallOfSoundAU #MusicPodcast
As Halestorm prepare to release their fourth album in a matter of weeks, we caught up with guitarist and ‘Chairman of the Party,’ Joe Hottinger, to chat about writing and recording, ‘Vicious,’ and being pioneers for females in modern rock.
Hard rock band Halestorm won a Grammy Award in 2013 and is about to release its fourth album in nine years on Atlantic Records. Lead singer Lzzy Hale is one of the most popular and likeable frontwomen (or men) on social media, where she is pretty much ever-present on Twitter and Instagram. But does popularity pay? I caught up with Lzzy and guitarist Joe Hottinger (who, incidentally, are two of the nicest people you could wish to meet) on a recent media trip to London to promote their new record. In this special episode of the Digital Download podcast, I chat to them about the band's very personal use of social media, the bond they have with fans, how their fans inspire their music, and ultimately how social media helps them to sell records and concert tickets. We also talk about dealing with trolls and even death threats, and about how to keep pushing yourself to achieve bigger and better things. There's a lot that marketers can learn about relationship building in this episode from the way Halestorm goes about things. Here's what is discussed in this episode: Why the band believes having a personal presence on social media is more authentic How a supportive community has developed around Lzzy independent of her input How social media has helped the band sell themselves as artists and benefited them How fans have come to feel a common bond with band members as human beings Why engaging with people on social media creates a personal connection with the band The evidence that being personally active on social media helps to sell records and concert tickets How Lzzy gains creative inspiration from conversations she has with fans online How band members balance the responsibility of being public role models with being authentic Why the band doesn't view Likes as currency but uses social media as a mouthpiece How Lzzy deals with trolls and death threats How Lzzy tries to encourage positivity through social media How Halestorm's music has developed over the last few years Why the band believes there is always something to fight for despite its success to date How being pulled out of their comfort zone on the last record was the best thing to happen to them Subscribe: Apple Podcasts I Android Podcast Apps I Email I RSS What to do Next I'd love to hear from you with any comments or thoughts.
