Veelgi põnevam on aga uus Hiina tootja Eesti turul ehk Maxus. Kuidas hiinlased luksusliku mahtuniversaaliga, mis liigub elektri jõul, hakkama said? Muidugi räägime esimesest lumest, Elmo Rendi olukorrast, ainult natuke ka laadimisest ja veidi rohkem "Top Gearist". Saatejuhid on Tarmo Tähepõld ja Martin Mets Geeniuse uudisteportaalist.

JEROME GUILLEN LEAVES TESLA"Tesla is losing one of its most important executives; Jerome Guillen. Guillen held high-ranking positions at Tesla for more than ten years, but has now left the company, as Tesla announced in a brief notification to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)." says electrive.com: " Jerome Guillen was only appointed head of the new Tesla Heavy Trucking division in March, where he was to drive the market launch of the electric truck Semi, and was previously head of Tesla's entire automotive division. The Frenchman has long been considered one of Elon Musk's most important companions. He came to Tesla from Daimler in 2010 and was responsible for the Model S. In his ten years at Tesla, Musk repeatedly gave Guillen responsibility for the major construction sites in the company." https://www.electrive.com/2021/06/08/jerome-guillen-leaves-tesla/ TESLA'S CHINA-MADE VEHICLE SALES SURGE 29% IN MAY"Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) sold 33,463 China-made electric cars in May, including exports, a 29% jump from April, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) on Tuesday." says Reuters: "China's new electric vehicle sales surged 177% to 185,000 cars in May from a year earlier, CPCA said. Overall passenger vehicle sales, however, rose just 1.1% to 1.66 million cars. Tesla, which makes its Model 3 sedans and Model Y sport-utility vehicles in Shanghai, exported 11,527 China-made vehicles in May. In April, it sold 25,845 China-made cars, down from 35,478 in March." https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/teslas-china-made-vehicle-sales-surge-29-may-auto-association-2021-06-08/ AUSTRALIA'S LARGEST-EVER TESLA SHIPMENT"The largest-ever Australian shipment of Tesla electric cars arrived late last week in Port Kembla, NSW, according to well-informed boat tracking service VedaPrime. It's estimated the delivery comprised roughly 1500 examples of the Chinese-built Model 3 sedan, which remains the only variant from Tesla currently on offer Down Under." says caradvice.com.au: "While Tesla does not release its sales data, figures obtained by CarAdvice show the all-electric brand delivered 3430 vehicles to local customers throughout 2020. Based on those results, the most recent shipment equates to almost six-months worth of stock – more than the US-based brand has ever had to deal with in Australia" https://www.caradvice.com.au/958695/australias-largest-ever-tesla-shipment-arrives-in-port-kembla-nsw/ TESLA SEEKS TO BUILD BATTERY FACTORY NEAR BERLIN"US carmaker Tesla has expanded its application for construction permits to build more facilities in Grünheide — south of Berlin — notably a battery factory. In April, Tesla said it wanted to include a battery production facility in its permit application." according to dw.com: "Given the scope of the changes, the state of Brandenburg's ministry of agriculture, environment and climate (MLUK) must decide in the next few days "whether to involve the public again," the licensing authority said in a statement on Thursday. Following criticism from environmental groups, Tesla also wants to introduce various measures to reduce water consumption so that despite expansion of the plant, water consumption is still expected to be about 1.4 million cubic meters per year." https://www.dw.com/en/germany-tesla-seeks-to-build-battery-factory-near-berlin/a-57775358 MAXUS TO SUPPLY 750 ELECTRIC VANS TO DPD UK"DPD UK will double its fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) after ordering 750 fully electric commercial vehicles from Maxus. The parcel delivery firm has bought 500 E Deliver 9s and 250 E Deliver 3s, increasing its pure electric fleet to almost 1,500 vehicles." says CommercialFleet.org: "Maxus began taking orders for the E Deliver 3, its first compact electric van, last year. Two battery options are available: 35kWH and 52.5kWh, giving a range of up to 98 miles and 150 miles, respectively. Meanwhile, the E Deliver 9, which replaced the EV80, has a maximum range of 219 miles and can be specified with one of three battery options. There's a choice of 55.1kWh, 72kWh and 88.5kWh." https://www.commercialfleet.org/news/van-news/2021/06/09/maxus-to-supply-750-electric-vans-to-dpd-uk ELECTRIC TRUCK START-UP LORDSTOWN DOESN'T HAVE CASH TO BEGIN PRODUCTION"Lordstown Motors, an electric vehicle start-up that aimed to revive a shuttered General Motors factory in Ohio, said on Tuesday that it did not have enough cash to start commercial production of its electric pickup truck and might have to close its doors." reports The Times: "The company, which was once held up as a savior by former President Donald J. Trump, is now being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission. In a regulatory filing, Lordstown said it will not be able to begin “commercial scale production” without raising more money from investors and lenders. Lordstown, one of about a dozen start-ups in the electric vehicle space that have gone public by merging with special purpose acquisition companies, or SPACs, added that there was “substantial doubt regarding our ability to continue as a going concern” — a legal phrase companies often use to alert investors that they might not survive" https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/08/business/lordstown-cash-going-concern.html E.ON AIMS TO INCREASE AFFORDABILITY WITH EV SALARY SACRIFICE SCHEME"E.ON has launched an electric vehicle (EV) salary sacrifice scheme following its company car provision going all electric in 2019. This new scheme – created by E.ON and Lex Autolease - enables non-company car drivers to access an EV, offering a range of EVs as well as an option to purchase a home chargepoint through its e-mobility business unit, E.ON Drive, as an additional salary sacrifice benefit." says Current News: "The scheme allows employees to benefit from reduced Income Tax and National Insurance contributions, with this designed to make EVs more affordable. It follows Octopus announcing earlier this year it was offering 100% electric salary sacrifice schemes through a new business unit dubbed Electric Dreams." https://www.current-news.co.uk/news/e-on-aims-to-increase-affordability-with-ev-salary-sacrifice-scheme RENAULT MEGANE E-TECH ELECTRIC"The radical Mégane eVision concept is destined for series production in 2022 as the Mégane E-Tech Electric - Renault's second mainstream EV." sreports Autocar: "The production-ready car has now been revealed in camouflaged prototype guise ahead of a full public debut later this year. The model shown is the first of 30 identically liveried test cars that will be used for advanced development trials on public roads beginning this summer. Proportions are largely shared with Alliance partner Nissan's new Ariya SUV, with which the Mégane shares its CMF-EV platform and powertrain. Renault has confirmed that, like the concept, the Peugeot e-2008 rival has a 215bhp electric motor on its front axle and takes its power from a 60kWh underfloor battery pack good for 280 miles of range on the official WLTP test cycle." https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-2022-renault-megane-e-tech-electric-280-mile-ev NISSAN SAYS OWNERS OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES TRAVEL 390 MILES MORE "Nissan claims electric car owners across Europe are already covering more miles annually than those driving petrol and diesel cars, despite continued concerns about range anxiety. The average electric vehicle user travels 391 miles (630 kilometres) more each year than those with cars with combustion engines, according to the Japanese car maker's research." according to thisismoney: " A poll of 7,000 motorists in the UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Norway, Sweden and Denmark earlier this year asked car drivers to detail how many miles they cover each year - not including 2020. When drivers of petrol and diesel cars were asked what would convince them to switch to an EV, 38 per cent said the biggest 'pull-factor' would be longer ranges. Almost a third (32 per cent) said easier charging would persuade them to make the leap, while three in 10 said they would need to see an improved availability of public devices before ditching their traditional motors." https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-9659615/Electric-car-owners-390-miles-year-petrol-diesel.html THE URBAN, LOW-SPEED EV IS HAVING A MOMENT"In China, a 10-foot-long minicar called the Wuling Hongguang Mini — made by General Motors and Chinese automakers SAIC and Guangxi Automobile — is topping 250,000 in total sales. That makes it the best-selling EV in the country, outperforming Tesla's Model 3 and others." says greenboz.com: "Young families are buying the car because at around $5,000 it's cheap, it's easy to drive, park and charge, and it's fun to personalize with a Crayola box of color options and stickers from the likes of Pokemon and Hello Kitty. The car is reportedly ubiquitous in the Chinese city of Liuzhou, which has chargers all over the place; the city offers free parking and charging to support the growing EV market. Along with China, European cities historically have been eager to support pint-sized vehicles for urban living. But major European automakers aren't yet embracing the ultra-cheap EVs being sold in China.

*Recurring Martian Streaks could be just sand rather than water A new study claims dark streaks often seen on the Sun facing slopes of Martian gullies and ravines could be caused by moving sand rather than melting sub-surface permafrost. The conclusions provide an alternative to previous speculation that the features – known as recurring slope lineae or RSLs – were caused by flowing meltwater from permafrost layers seeping out from the sides of gullies and ravines. *Could cosmic dust be transporting life between worlds? A new study suggests that life on Earth might have originated from biological particles brought to the planet in streams of cosmic dust particles. The findings would mean fast-moving flows of interplanetary dust that continually bombard Earth’s atmosphere could deliver tiny organisms from far-off worlds, or send Earth-based organisms to other planets, according to the research. *Listening for alien signals. Way back on August the 15th 1977 astronomers at Ohio State University’s Big Ear radio telescope supporting the SETI Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence picked up a strange and very strong narrow band radio signal coming from the direction of the constellation Sagittarius. Now a new campaign is underway to listen for alien signals – not from Sagittarius but from M-31 Andromeda. *NASA Launches NOAA Weather Satellite to Improve Forecasts The penultimate launch of a Delta II rocket has successfully placed the first of a new generation of advanced weather satellites into a Sun synchronous orbit. The Joint Polar Satellite System-1 or JPSS-1 blasted into deep black early morning skies from the Vandenberg Air Force base in California. *Maxus-9 provides a little microgravity The European Space Agency has launched a Maxus sounding rocket to see how microgravity effects microorganisms. The mission which blasted off from Sweden’s Esrange Space Center-- flew on a sub-orbital ballistic trajectory delivering its five onboard experiments to the edge of space. *The Science Report A new weapon in the fight against peanut allergies. Never miss your #MediaSnack - subscribe for updates every Friday On this week's #MediaSnack we look at the Q2 results published by the marketing services groups over the summer and consider the causes and implications. Is this downturn a blip or the new normal? Are the days of holding company dominance and stellar growth rates over? Probably, but we have some ideas how things might play out. On this week's Good Week Bad Week we celebrate the launch of GroupM's new agency, the merger of MEC and Maxus, called WaveMaker. It's a bad week for the "crappy media supply chain" as P&G's Marc Pritchard gives an update on his 5 point media transparency action plan and heads to DMExco next week to share the progress they've made and to issue a rallying cry to the stragglers to shape up or miss out on P&G's vast media investment. Oh, and Bell Pottinger, once one of the world's most powerful PR forces has ruined its own reputation and faces meltdown this week. A very bad week indeed. On this week’s #MediaSnack we start with news that GroupM, the world’s largest media buyer and ‘parent’ to four of the world’s leading media agency networks is going to merge two of them, creating a group of three agencies and making room for recent digital agency acquisition Essence to become a more focused part of GroupM service offering to advertisers. We continue our countdown to the one year anniversary of the ANA’s Media Transparency Report , this week looking at Media Trading, that is the buying and paying for media inventory and we consider how that has evolved and what, if anything, might be as a result of the ANA media reports and guidelines. So, firstly, what has actually changed in the world of media buying? The ANA report was really largely about media buying and they drew attention specifically to the WAY media is bought in the US. The ANA report highlights that in some places, agencies might be making additional undisclosed income from vendor side, which was steering media buying decisions. A lot of the issues highlighted pointed to the need to clearly define whether the media agency acted as Principal or Agent under the contract. And we know, a few companies now have made public statements in this area, notably P&G revealing that they are changing all media agency contracts to ensure the agency always acts as agent not principal. Chief Brand Officer Marc Pritchard admitted even P&G been surprised when they found out income places the agency was acting as principal. This is probably the biggest impact to the way media is bought, directly attributable to the findings of the ANA Media Transparency Report. We are seeing that more and more advertisers are firstly aware of the distinction of agent versus principal and the implications of both, then making clear decisions which approach suits them best. We are observing clearer language in contracts with media agencies to determines principal or agent status. In the last 12 months since the ANA report was published we’ve also observed clearer differences in how advertisers view the resources they need to buy media in traditional (old world legacy) media and digital (future) media, (with some blurring of boundaries taking place with regard to those "digitising channels" such as DigitalOOH). What we observe is that advertisers big and small are starting to make strategic plans for the longer term future of media buying. Nothing is certain but increasingly advertisers are seeing that their requirements for media buying services will be met from a number of different sources, some a network media agency, some might be a programmatic specialist for example, some might be activated internally via better self service tools, some might be negotiated direct with vendor. Whatever the right model for you, its a sure bet that media buying is about to become more open, fragmented and more automated, so hence advertisers are investing time and resources to plan for that future and create a model which gives them the flexibility to adjust over time. Still, there are some pitches which are still attracting negative headlines for appearing to be focused largely on reducing the cost of media. One example from this week is the coverage US TelCo 'Sprint Mobile’ attracted after their recent media pitch. The AdWeek headline “To Cut Costs, Sprint Picks Horizon Media to Handle $700m Media Business”
One of the hallmarks of work at Maxus Los Angeles is speed. Speed breeds momentum, momentum results in success and this is where Pam Sullivan, managing director of Maxus in LA, thrives. Growing the media shop from a team of four in 2011 to a lofty place in the advertising continuum as less an order-taking endeavor and more a consultative powerhouse for clients, has demanded a pep in the step — but never sacrifices keeping the team engaged and giving them the tools and environment needed to excel, especially in the fast-paced word of entertainment, where Maxus has firmly planted its flag. Knowing how to navigate the ever-moving world helps engender confidence, something that Sullivan learned early on, especially after an incredibly awkward encounter with a client. The mother of two adopted children, Sullivan also preaches the importance of getting past fear, feeling that it is a roadblock to living and working confidently. Through all of the exhilaration, which is an experience Sullivan holds dear, is a high level of gratitude, a value that she holds in high esteem. Additionally, she believes strongly that empathy is one of the most valuable leadership skills — the ability to walk in someone’s shoes builds understanding. Deservedly proud of her accomplishments thus far, Sullivan is firmly in lockstep with Maxus global CEO, Lindsay Pattison, in their quest to continue to have an environment that is not just welcoming to women at any part of their career, but one that empowers both men and women to perform and live at their very best.
On this week’s #MediaSnack we report on a little feisty exchange of words between the CEO of GroupM UK, Nick Theakstone and Mark Finney the head of media at ISBA, the UK’s leading marketer trade association. It all stems back to March 2016 when ISBA’s head of consultancy practice Debbie Morrison launched they excellent media agency contract template with some comments to the FT which angered agencies. In her FT interview, Debbie had suggested that media agencies don’t have the best interests of their clients at heart anymore. The fight back from agencies at the time was quite aggressive but months have passed, the media transparency debate has gathered momentum in different areas, not least thanks to the ANA’s Media Transparency initiative and we probably felt it was water under the bridge. Not so. Last week Nick Theakstone thought that the recent success of one of ‘his' agencies MediaCom (the UK’s largest media buyer) at a media awards event entirely defended the agency community from the transparency concerns raised by ISBA. We discuss how this simply doesn’t make sense, the two things are entirely separate - and we doubt whether Nick would have been making the same point the morning after a successful awards sweep by Zenith. Whatever his intentions, Nick has managed to get headlines for himself and the agency for entirely the wrong reasons, of course everyone is talking about the sniping against ISBA rather than appreciating MediaCom's excellent work. Mark Finney, ISBA’s head of media responded in Campaign, reminding everyone that we need to revert to a more constructive dialogue - at the same time calling Nick’s words “baffling and disappointing” - they won't be exchanging Christmas cards this year one supposes. Next up, we share details of the excellent ID Comms CMO panel which we hosted at LinkedIn’s lovely London HQ. The event was an invitation-only networking and panel discussion, attended by 40 marketers from brands including Unilever, Mars, Lego, Universal Pictures, Disney, British Gas and Royal Mail. The panel discussion featured Martin Moll, Head of Marketing at Nissan Europe, Lindsay Pattison, Global CEO of media agency Maxus and Steve Hyde CEO of 360xec. Finally, we report on news that Adobe has acquired TubeMogul for $540m - a strong indication of the much-expected consolidation in the ad tech space is actually happening.
Today we get a peek into the life of an executive at a global media agency. Scott Stewart, Managing Director, Head of Strategy, for Maxus Canada stops by to chat. Scott’s path into the media world didn’t start directly out of school. After taking some time to be a self-proclaimed snowboard bum in Kelowna, British Columbia, Scott landed his first media gig at the legendary Canadian advertising firm, Vickers & Benson. From there he rose through the industry ranks, assuming senior roles at agencies such as Vizuem, Carat, and UM. So what’s Scott’s secret to success? More than anything else, he credits having great mentors.
We bring this week’s #MediaSnack from Cannes in the South of France where David and Tom are attending the annual Festival of Creativity, which gathers some of the world’s leading marketers and executives from the world’s leading agencies and vendors. It was historically an advertising festival but in the last decade has been overrun somewhat by big spending media and technology companies. We broadcast from the beachside Cabana of the International Advertising Association (IAA), the sun is shining and the dark clouds that had been gathering over the media industry recently have definitely been left at home. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pREKAnwlqo This allows for more positive, collaborative and unguarded conversations on the sensitive issues facing the industry. We highlight the important role Cannes plays to bring together the industry to celebrate good work (for only around 10% of the time) and engage in meaningful and different conversation with many different people you don’t typically get to talk with in the same way. We had the opportunity to talk with many senior client, agency and vendor leaders about the challenges and opportunities for the global media industry. #RebateGate was being talked about a lot, but the tone of the conversations has changed in most cases (thanks to Cannes), becoming less emotional and more open, sensible and rational. We announce the publication of the ID Comms 2016 Global Media Talent Report and talk to agency leader Toby Jenner, Global Chief Operating Officer of Mediacom about his agency’s approach to identifying, motivating and retaining the best industry talent. We discuss some of the findings and consider the current state of advertisers’ media capabilities and how that might need to evolve over time. http://idcomms.com/global-media-talent-report/ Finally we discuss the launch of the largest UK media review of the year. Communications groups BT and EE merged in early 2016 and currently split their media planning and buying across two GroupM companies (Maxus and MEC respectively). The combined account is worth £160m in billings and will be a big prize for the winner. We understand giants WPP, Publicis and Omnicom have been invited to fight it out.
In this episode we discuss the major restructure of Publicis Groupe and how this might impact their media agency brands, we discuss findings from the many new 2016 ad spend predictions and finally close on a fascinating piece of research of C-suite and senior markets (FT readership) which was conducted by agency Maxus with the FT insight team. ___________ Find ID Comms here: Website: http://idcomms.com Twitter: http://twitter.com/idcomms LinkedIn: http://linkedin.com/company/id-comms G+: https://plus.google.com/b/101836473001605573756/101836473001605573756/posts About ID Comms: • ID Comms is a strategic media consulting company, founded in 2009 • We act as a trusted media partner to the world's leading advertisers, helping them to navigate the complexities of the changing media landscape. • Media is a very powerful lever for growth for brands, but the landscape is complicated, cluttered and confusing.
