Many of the recent hires for restaurant CEO positions share a common listing on their resumes: Somewhere along the way, they logged time at Yum Brands, parent of Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, KFC and The Habit. For reasons that go beyond the sheer size of the franchisor, it's become a major prep school of sorts for a new generation of chain chiefs, from Brian Niccol at Starbucks to Rob Lynch at Shake Shack. The situation calls to mind a time when it seemed almost like a requirement for casual-dining CEOs to have worked under Norman Brinker at the parent of Steak and Ale or Chili's (now led by a Yum alumnus, Kevin Hochman). The graduates of those real-world training centers eventually found themselves in demand to lead chains in every sector of the business, from family dining (Mike Jenkins at Bakers Square and Village Inn) to eatertainment (Dick Frank at Chuck E. Cheese). This week's episode of Restaurant Rewind looks at the unique role those companies played in shaping the industry's leadership ranks, as well as why Yum is filling a similar role today. An interesting observation came up while I was talking to veteran outfitter and big game hunting guide Mike Jenkins of Upfront Outfitters.
Hold tight, dear listeners, because this is going to be a wild ride. You know what's a real adrenaline rush? Try taking on your internal dialogue, that's a roller coaster if there ever was one! In today's episode, I, Izzy, your charismatic host, will be guiding you through the labyrinth of your thoughts. Buckle up, people, and get ready for some introspective thrills! Today we're diving deep into the tumultuous waters of the mind with Jersey's finest, Mike Jenkins. Mike isn't just a champion of men's holistic health; he's also a beacon for anyone grappling with their innermost thoughts. And let me tell you, folks, the battle against one's internal dialogue is like taking on Goliath. But instead of a sling and a rock, you just need a good sense of humor and a strong sense of self-worth – kind of like me playing Resident Evil despite it triggering fear. Yes, I'm addicted to those games, and no, I don't recommend them for the faint-hearted!Now, I know many of you might be tempted to suppress those negative thoughts that whisper lies into your ears - "You're a loser," "You're broke," "You're not good enough." But I'm here to challenge that notion. Inspired by Christian author Sarah Young's advice, I urge you to reject those negative thoughts right away. Instead of suppressing them, confront them head-on and replace them with positive affirmations. Because folks, let's face it – we can't let those thoughts control us! Remember Jet Jackson and the tragedy of suicide that engulfed him? It's examples like these that emphasize the need for more open dialogue about mental health. We can't keep running from the issues; we need to tackle them head-on. Get ready to engage in a heart-to-heart with Mike, as he unveils his journey as an advocate for men's holistic health. We'll explore why the way we speak to ourselves is intricately connected to our mental health.Expect some mind-blowing revelations, such as how positive self-talk can actually improve job performance, reduce anxiety, and even enhance cardiovascular health. Conversely, we'll delve into the dark side – how negative self-talk can increase the risk for substance abuse disorders. Stay with us as we challenge and unpack the notion that the art of conquering internal dialogue isn't about silencing it, but rather learning to control its sway over us. We'll talk about those thoughts that harass us, real-life examples of personal struggles and triumphs, and ultimately, how to maintain victory in the battle within. As we wrap up, we'll discuss some effective strategies to conquer internal dialogue, stories from Mike's own battles, and the future of his advocacy.Get ready for some vital tips, ranging from positive affirmations and focusing on strengths, to practicing mindfulness, challenging negativity, prioritizing self-care, and even seeking professional help when needed. Then, it's game time! We dive into hypothetical scenarios that challenge us to either fight, flee, or allow. Navigating through stressful situations, handling criticism, dealing with social media triggers, combating anxious thoughts, resolving conflicts, and making big decisions – we cover them all!And to end on a cliffhanger, we'll pose a question to you all: What thoughts have you been fighting or allowing that you need to conquer? How do you plan to do this? Tune in next time as we explore your answers and delve deeper into the world of mental health. Don't miss this thrilling journey into the mind. So, get ready, fasten your seatbelts, and prepare for a wild roller coaster ride on this episode! For all your writing needs, Grant Writing Homework Assistance, Resumes, Cover Letters, Templates, Media Kits, Product and Profile Descriptions, and more, please visit psathepodcast.comMike T. On this week's AAP Podcast, Chris Versace speaks with Mike Jenkins, CEO of Orion Energy (OESX), and Kathleen Connors, the head of EV charging business Voltrek which was acquired by Orion in October of last year. During the conversation, Mike provides a thorough overview of Orion's core light emitting diode (LED) installation business, touching on why cost savings as well as ESG and carbon footprint concerns are driving that business. Mike also describes the strategic thought process behind acquiring Voltrek when Orion did with Kathleen explaining the tailwinds behind that EV charging business. While headlines focus on public funding that sees the buildout of EV charging in 2024 ramp considerably, Kathleen also discusses how private funding is driving that market today. She also describes the typical build-out for an EV charging project, how Voltrek works with its various partners, including ChargePoint (CHPT), and shares which EV best replicates the combustion engine driving experience.

Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett, 18th Baron Dunsany Edward John Moreton Draw Plunkett, or Lord Dunsany was known to his friends as Eddie. Lord Dunsany was born in 1878 in London England and died in 1957 in Dublin Ireland. Though born in England, he was heir to the oldest inhabited house in Ireland: Dunsany Castle near Tara. In County Meath. He worked to support the Abbey Theatre in Dublin with W B Yeats and Lady Gregory. In addition he was chess and pistol champion of Ireland. He was also a great traveller and, as you can tell from this story: he was a habitual hunter with horse and hounds. He was a prolific writer produced over ninety volumes of fiction, essays, poems and plays. His most famous book is possibly The King of Elfland's Daughter and he is thought to be the first fantasy writer who set out the later genre that produced the Narnia books and The Lord of the Rings and ultimately Game of Thrones. Thirteen At Table This story was suggested by Mike Jenkins. We have a beautiful description of the Kent countryside on a spring evening as they follow the fox. This is indeed a fox hunt and may not be to everyone's taste but is part of the story. I like the idea that a gentleman at hounds may request a bed from any other gentleman who has a gentleman's house. It's s simple tale thereafter. We have host, Sir Richard Arlen, who says he has lived a wicked life. What he has done to this succession of women that means he has to dine with them every night for the past fifty years is not explained. But we understand he has wronged them and we guess perhaps he was somewhat of a rake. As the dinner goes on. It is explained that Mr Linton drinks a lot as he is dehydrated. He is also tired. He starts off by humouring the guest and then takes to his story of his wonderful twenty point hunt. The best hunt that ever was and a tale that grows in the telling. I am thinking this is a good humoured dig at huntsmen and their stories. And as he feels the need for an audience to tell his tale, slowly the ghosts become visible to Mr Linton and he begins to treat them as real people rather than as figments of his imagination. It is so slowly and delicately done that it is very effective and smooth. In the end he offends the ghosts by something he said. They are clearly very sensitive and collect slights. He is mortified, but the host is supremely grateful. There is a happy ending in that Sir Richard Arlen It's a humorous and pretty story. I haven't read much Dunsany, but I'm keen to read more now. Mike Jenkins from Up Front Outfitters in Washington state is a character with a lot of great stories.
— The practice of present moment awareness take us directly INTO the raw experience of life in this moment now, exactly as it is. In that sense, our way out is through. Through the tough terrain we had hoped to avoid but with a totally different mindset and perspective than we have had before. We have practiced the perspective of egocentricity from a very young age, so have mostly come to experience ourselves as totally alone in the world, trapped within ourselves, our thoughts, feelings, our past and so on. In present moment awareness, we can quite rapidly become aware of a silent, still and spacious presence deep within us that is in fact not shaken by the storm of discomfort or pain we may feel is raging all around us. By stopping our efforts to escape, becoming still, silent and aware of the empty space around us and within us, we can make a connection with our own innate state of pure, divine presence. That is to say, we can make a direct connection to the dimension of Spirit. Practicing present moment awareness takes you directly into the reality of this present moment. So, if there is unresolved pain or trauma still within you in this moment, it stands to reason that you will face it when you become more present. But do not fear, whatever trauma that might be revealed is no match for the disarming love and compassion and healing kindness of the gaze of presence. This is the heart of compassion that resides in the very fabric of our awareness and which can untangle the most twisted of knots. If you can sit and notice silence and space and stillness at the very moment you are experiencing the arising of fear, pain, suffering, anxiety, panic, sadness, depression, grief, craving, despair or any other form of troublesome human experience then you will be presenting that human suffering directly to the heart of presence and therefore to unconditional love. Remaining present as you move through any kind of pain will bring the light of pure love to that pain and aid your recovery from it and your passage through to a renewal and regeneration of that part of yourself. Valeria Teles interviews Mike Jenkins — the author of “The Gift of the Present: How to Experience More Peace, Joy and Happiness Through Present Moment Awareness.” Mike began exploring Spiritual Practice with a voracious zeal after a diagnosis of cancer at the age of 29. We gather with gratitude on traditional Cree lands that are now a part of Treaty Six and shared by many nations. A treaty is an inheritance, a responsibility and a relationship. May we be good neighbours to one another, good stewards to our planet and good ancestors to our children. In almost all of the western states the archery elk opening week is warm and the rut has not gotten into full swing. Mike Jenkins has spent time in the NW, Alaska, and the SW states of NV and AZ. His experience in the SW states fine tuned his expertise for locating elk in warm weather. Many people wait until later in the season to chase elk when the weather cools and the rut is in full swing. He has found that you if you choose to do that you may miss a time when the elk are concentrated in smaller areas due to the warm weather. That makes them easier to locate and many have not been pressured yet so they are still going about their relaxed daily routine. Mike spends a lot time working to locate these areas and then closes in on the elk when the season starts. We talk about his tactics to consistently harvest elk in the tough conditions so you can hunt regardless of what the weather is at the start of the season.
