Welcome to Episode 45 of This is Not Happening. An Album of the Month Podcast where in Part 1 we deep dive into an Album that one of us has chosen and in Part 2 we play 'Spin it or Bin it'. This is where we pick a theme and each select a song that represents that theme. We judge each others selections by asking the question 'Spin It or Bin It'?This month, in Part 1, David bravely returns to the scene a previous crime on our podcast. He brings the second St. Vincent album to a group of people who historically have not reacted well to St. Vincent. Wow. How might this one go? In all seriousness, this is a very different experience to 'Daddy's Home' and a really good chat about the good, the not so good and our collective love of Pop Reggae. This month, in Part 2, Spin It or Bin It, the theme is 'Crying in Aldi' or 'music that makes you cry'. As the theme suggests, things got pretty emotional. Part 1 | St. Vincent | All Born ScreamingI think the full continuum of emotions or lack of emotions is expressed in this review. David brings unconditional love for St. Vincent plus a thinly veiled threat that his wife might tell us off again if we say mean things. The rest of bring various thoughts and ideas to the table that range from the inquisitive to the annoyed.Listen to the album here.Watch some videos here, including the Jimmy Kimmel live performance. We reference the Tape Notes podcast (and also videos) which delve into the making of the album . This is seriously informative and entertaining discussion. Take a look at it here.Part 2 | Spin It or Bin It | 'Crying in Aldi'The most 'in' of 'in jokes' is that Joey often cries to sad songs while doing the big shop in Aldi. He's been banned from 3 stores now and is considering to switching to Lidl. In support of our brother, we've all been researching which songs make us cry and testing them out in various big-box supermarket chains.David chose - 'Already Dead' by Beck.Nolan chose - 'Basket' by Dan Mangan.Guy chose - 'Magnificent' by Elbow.Joey chose - 'My Girls' by Animal Collective.See you on Episode 47 ... where 4 old guys talk about Charlie XCX. What could go wrong? We've been writing the blog for years come and have a look - https://thisisnothappening.net/

Just 4 years ago, before Ashley decided to make a change of her own, she was exhausted from life. She was simply TIRED! After years of struggling with lack of purpose, confidence, and all of the "why is this happening to me" conversations with God, she found herself (with her kids) fed up & homeless. She was stressed out and depressed from holding on to the pain of a past miscarriage, failing at her first business, relationships, and life in general because of her decisions, and trying to handle things on her own. She said to herself, "SOMETHING HAS GOT TO BREAK." Since her newly found freedom, she has authored the book "SOMETHING HAS GOT TO BREAK: HOW TO LIVE SPIRITUALLY FREE WITHOUT EVER HAVING TO DEAL WITH THE BONDAGE OF YOUR PAST AGAIN" She is also the Owner and CEO of Thavine Revelations L.L.C where they help you tell your testimony with their Testimony Tees. Their shirts speak louder than words! She is the Host of the new podcast "Jesus and My Girls" and the "Lift A Sister Up Roundtable Talk." She is so grateful for her journey from her past and has an even greater passion for helping women equip them to UNAPOLOGETICALLY achieve the life that God has promised them. Ashley is also now a wife, a minister, and a Christian Transformation Coach. She holds an Associates's Degree in Biblical knowledge and is currently furthering her education in Ministry Leadership. Host of the bold and unapologetic podcast, Comfortably Excluded, Montyy Taj grew up often being the “only one.” She was bussed into a “better” school district and enrolled in Advanced Placement course so she became used to being the Black kid who was excluded from the social network whiteness and middle class status brings. In addition to her podcast, Montyy is also working on a documentary, Running with My Girls, about women of color in Denver who are campaigning for political office. In this episode, Montyy explains how the idea for her podcast was born out of her journey to get comfortable with not being included in spaces that were unwelcoming to her. She brings on guests who have found a way to create thriving lives for themselves in spaces where they are not organically included and also shares her perspectives on pop culture happenings. Her goal is to move the show in a slightly different direction, featuring the voices of Black Denver residents, specifically, whose presence in the city is often invisible as white power structures actively seek to erase them. Montyy also shares her frustration with the silence surrounding the invisibility of Black queer and transwomen. Since she grounds her own work in the Black community, it is difficult for her to reconcile the community’s allegiance to the safety and humanity of the heterosexual male with its indifference to the record number of murders of queer and transwomen. She connects this apathy to how deeply engrained patriarchal structures are in every aspect of society - its grip on socially conservative Black folk especially tight. This truth makes Montyy all the more aware of how difficult it is for a Black woman to claim freedom. “It is a moving target, an ever going, uphill battle – especially for the Black woman,” she says. “But, I find freedom when I take back my narrative and give myself permission to find my own way.”

I tend to fall asleep in the middle of things. Sometimes I'll wake up and the labtop and lamp are still on. Othertimes I wake up and there's a book on my face. This morning I woke up with my headphones on and the music still playing. I got up to open the curtains and was greeted with a sky full of clouds. The song playing in my head (this week's opener)was just the perfect song for that moment so I figured, why not, I'd make a rainy day song podcast. So either curl up with a cup of coffee or take a walk (or drive) in the rain. Enjoy. Note: This is my first podcast and my website isn't actually up yet.
