“Once the flight had flown…” Taylor Swift is a master storyteller, but how does she tell those stories? In this week's Show & Tell episode, we're talking all about Narratology. We break down the structure behind the storytelling, unpacking flashbacks, fast forwards, stream of consciousness, and first-person limited narration through three brilliant Swift tracks. From fairy tale distortion in “Is It Over Now?”, a murder mystery arc in “No Body, No Crime,” to the heart-tugging Bildungsroman of “You're On Your Own, Kid,” this episode explores the how behind the heartbreaks, twists, and self-discoveries. Whether you're into literary theory, folklore, or just love a well-crafted bridge, you'll leave this episode with a deeper appreciation for Taylor's evolving narrative toolkit—and maybe a few English class flashbacks of your own. Taylor Swift isn't just a world-conquering pop star at the top of her game, her approach to songwriting has also proven massively influential for an up-and-coming generation of singer-songwriters. Gracie Abrams, Maisie Peters, and Phoebe Bridgers—all of whom opened for Swift during her Eras Tour—each owe a debt to Swift's hyperspecific lyrics, minimal melodies, and bombastic bridges. We break down the key aspects of Swift's songcraft and how we can hear them manifest in the work of her young acolytes, and we speak to another burgeoning artist, the brilliant Jensen McRae, to learn firsthand why Swift's style has been so resonant. Did you know in the last few years the medical world has scientifically deducted per research that there IS one leading CAUSE of multiple sclerosis?!Did you know it was Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)Did you know you can get tested and start to rid that from your body NOW?Today's guest is Allaire Schneider.Allaire has a Medical Lab Science (M.L.S.) degree and is also board certified (ASCP). She has written medical journal papers, herself, AND her husband has managed MS for 20 years now while SHE manages Crohn's disease.Allaire believes many people might have EBV as part of their root cause of MS, per the article. More virus means more damaging antibodies made and worsening of MS symptoms. The EBV virus is hard to get rid of like cold sore viruses. They can stay dormant until the immune system is weak & then come out again later. IF you test positive to EBV these antibodies will do damage to your CNS so you would want to address this with your doctor. Interesting note: Even though this was released to the public, EBV testing is NOT part of initial differential MS diagnosis nor is it done annually with MS patients. This is something you will need to do ON YOUR OWN. Besties, welcome back for part two of Mia's deep dive into Taylor Swift's literary influences! With Karly still off living her best life in Australia, Mia takes the mic solo to continue unpacking the insights from Taylor Swift By The Book: The Literature Behind the Lyrics, From Fairy Tales to Tortured Poets by Rachel Feder and Tiffany Tatreau. This time, she's covering the emotional rollercoaster of Lover, the poetic heartbreak of Folklore and Evermore, the gothic depths of Midnights, and the raw vulnerability of The Tortured Poets Department. From sentimentalism to postmodernism, Mia explores how Taylor's lyrics include literary allusions and how these albums have shaped her own life. If you've ever screamed “You're On Your Own, Kid” on a solo drive or sobbed to “Champagne Problems” after a breakup, this episode is for you.
On this episode, Hannah and Exquisite visit one of Taylor Swift's signature Track Fives: "You're On Your Own, Kid." Listen in as they trace how the song follows Taylor's growth from a young (precocious) child to her life in NYC to finally realizing that she's got something that no one can take away. “We can leave the Christmas lights up til January.” Tis the damn season, so we're bringing you a Harry Potter Holiday Special episode! This week we do a special Show and Tell episode bringing together two of our favorite topics: Harry Potter and Taylor Swift's lyrics. Jenn imagines “Look What You Made Me Do” as Snape's song to Voldermort. Jodi makes the case that “Lover” perfectly captures Lavender Brown's feelings toward Ron. And Maansi envisions “You're On Your Own Kid” as an anthem about Harry Potter's arc throughout the entire series. Here's one of my favorite quotes of all time:“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will control your life and you will call it fate.” -Carl JungThink about it:What programming from your childhood is still lingering in the background…… Potentially causing you to behave in ways that no longer serve you?It is my view that our stories (both internal and external) control our reality. If that's the case, how do you…FIND the unconscious beliefs that might be holding you backDELETE the negative unconscious beliefREPLACE the negative belief with one that serves you?THAT is what today's guest will show you how to do.Gladius Sovereign is the creator of the Sovereign Mind Method, and what he does is PURE magic. This kind of work is TRANSFORMATIONAL, and I've explored many modalities.I can honestly say that I think Gladius' is the most effective methodology for doing this ON YOUR OWN.Other methodologies I've explored work very well with a facilitator and coach…But Glad's approach really empowers you to take the reigns and run with it.Imagine:What if you could consistently upgrade and elevate your thinking and core beliefs to serve you and your highest good? Not only is it possible, but if you listen to today's episode, you'll learn how

In which The Curmudgeons introduce you--again--to your new favorite band. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club spliced the neo-psychedelic swagger of bands like The Brian Jonestown Massacre with the rawkin' menace of the Stone Roses, Oasis and other British bands to offer a maximal yet poignant vision of what rock 'n' roll should be. Their five-album output during the first decade of the 21st century is one of the best streaks of releases in recent memory. We analyze each album as a means of explaining why B.R.M.C. was so powerful--and so ultimately meaningful. In this week's session, the girls officially welcome Janine back, part-time, and she certainly brought the chaos with her. In a hot mess of an episode, Brianna, Paije, and Janine try to keep the topic focused on Taylor's newest track five: You're On Your Own, Kid. However, they frequently lose the plot and end up with a partial analysis of the song intermixed with quite a few barely coherent tangents. **Trigger warning: Mentions of suicide, 46:47-50:51**

Then, they discuss the hairpin drop of the week: niceboyed and the Queer essay that Taylor could be linking herself to. Before getting into their analysis of Taylor's Track Fives, they quickly share their eagerness for Karma and the rest of the Midnights album. Taylor's Track Fives include Cold As You, White Horse, Dear John, All Too Well, All You Had To Do Was Stay, Delicate, My Tears Ricochet, Tolerate It, and now You're On Your Own, Kid… They unpack the invisible thread of themes of anxiety and battles, and ponder what the newest Track Five will be about.
