Victor Dover is an innovator in city planning, neighborhood design and street design, he serves as president of the Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade and as a board member of the National Recreation & Parks Association. We talk about how the cost of car dependency is hidden from the individual by governmental subsidies, how the promised ‘'car freedom'' in the 50s became car dependence which newer generations are rejecting, how maximum flow of cars occurs at medium speeds, the evil of minimum parking lots because it causes car dependence, that 0 is an absurd price for parking, that people will use the infrastructure that is built, the bankrupting nature of highways and the huge contrast of the big return on investment of bike lanes(both in financial and healthcare terms), how unbundling the price of apartments from that of parking spaces would make people realize how expensive cars are, the overprescription of both parking and opioids in the US, how reducing population density increases traffic due to increased kilometers driven, how new businesses like Uber and Cabify are diminishing the amount of parking demanded & how dynamic parking pricing according to demand is optimal. This is the only racial segment that isn't most likely to be attacked by a member of their own race. ✅ The Biden administration is quietly pressing Mexico to curb migrants coming to the U.S., Mexican officials said, a move echoing Trump-era policy. Mexico is preparing to significantly reinforce efforts to detain U.S.-bound migrants who illegally cross its border with Guatemala. [NY Times + Reuters]✅ Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned Thursday that American forces are ready to “fight tonight,” in response to North Korea slamming drills resuming between the US and South Korea. [NY Post]✅ Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, two proponents of the Green New Deal, are introducing a bill with a $500 million price tag that aims to electrify bus and rail infrastructure, with the aim of reaching net-zero U.S. carbon emissions by 2050. Kataluna Enriquez, a biological male, won the Miss Silver State USA pageant this week, an event considered the biggest preliminary competition for the Miss Nevada USA pageant. Collateral damage of lock-downs includes severe mental health deterioration, increased suicide, heightened drug and alcohol abuse, education loss, mass social unrest, health procedures deferred or foregone, extreme loneliness, soaring global poverty, and countless others adverse consequences. In many cases, these consequences hit young people the hardest. * Contrast between Florida and California – public officials in California are hypocrites! They allow celebrities at the Grammys to gather for celebrity parties, but if you have a family party in LA, they will cut off your power. While Florida Governor deSantis is out in a crowd of people enjoying a beer with common folks, Los Angeles authorizes the city to cut the electricity to businesses that defy the lock-down. * She Wouldn’t Wear A Mask, Galveston Police Broke Her Foot. * The Mistaken Notion That There Is an Easy Solution to Gaining Back ‘Freedom’ – Gary D. Today we are talking to Jamie Allen and Sally Parham, two of the folks behind The Squirrel Census.Yes, it is just what it sounds like. The Squirrel Census started in Atlanta in 2012 with a simple, somewhat inexplicable, wild idea: let's count squirrels and present our findings to the public. While they're certainly rigorous, what they're doing isn't dry science. The team is considerate, design-savvy, and deeply funny people. They've made a scientific activity into something not just accessible, but playful.Jamie, the creator of the project, formed a team early on of cartographers, artists, scientists and more to bring the first census to life. The team trained hundreds of volunteers they call Squirrel Sighters to count squirrels, then spent the coming months preparing the data and stories they gathered to the community.Since that first census in Atlanta's Inman Park, the team has hosted 3 more, including most recently an ambitious foray into Central Park. More than 500 New Yorkers came out to count squirrels with them, and it was all over the news, spurred on by features inThe New York Times, support from leaders at the Parks Association, and pun-filled tweets by the NYC Mayor's Office. If you want to get involved with the Squirrel Census, check out their hilarious website thesquirrelcensus.com or scope them out on Twitter @squirrelcensus.Grab your copy of GET TOGETHER—our handbook on community-building

EPISODE 50!! AND, it's our one year anniversary. So all around a big day for the BeBizzy Break Podcast! In this episode we talk about what NIST has recommended for a new password strategy. BBP : Episode 50 - Change Your Passwords... Again First of all, congratulations to Dana and her team at the North Dakota Recreation and Parks Association on their new website. We launched http://NDRPA.com earlier this week. It's a Wordpress site with a calendar, subpage navigation and more. Check it out! Also, I rescued two websites earlier this week from hacking. I'll use this as my weekly reminder for all of your to back everything up. Websites, databases, financial information, personal photos... everything. Better to put a little bit of prevention and spend a little bit of money now than pay a bunch of money to possibly recover (or worse, possibly NOT recover) lost data.    Passwords Back in 2003, Bill Burr (not the comedian) was a mid-level manager at NIST, the National Institute of Standards and Technology. They recommend standards on all sorts of things like official weight calibration, timing, and even technology guidelines like passwords. In 2003, Burr published NIST Special Publication 800-63 Appendix A, which spelled out the proper guidelines for creating and managing secure passwords on websites and networks. Those guidelines are still followed today. The standards included a long password (8-12 characters), upper and lower case alphabet charcters, numbers, special characters and random. Sounds like every website you sign up for, doesn't it? But now, Mr. Burr has stated that in regards to this document and policy, "Much of what I did I now regret." That's an unfair statement by Bill. Back in 2003, we didn't have much history of what computer network security was, and we definately didn't have the case studies of how criminals and mischief-makers would do to gain access to computer networks. All of his recommendations sounded solid, and while possibly flawed, are still in use today.  What NIST and computer analysts are finding though is humans always find an easy way to get around something tough, and frankly secure. The requirements would allow a user to create a seemingly random password like "Pa5sW0rD". You and I both know that says "PaSsWOrD", but the computer sees it matches Burr's recommendations.  So, when it comes time to update the password becasue of time requirements placed by the system adminstrators, or a data break. instead of creating a new, secure passwords, often we add something simple to it. "Pa5sW0rD" becomes "Pa5sW0rD1", the "5" and "s" switch places, or something simple like that to remember but still meeting Burr's recommendations.  Well the computer hackers have also figured out our shortcuts and have added some smarts into their password cracking to test out some of these easy switches. And it's working. In June 2017, NIST has published a new version of NIST Publication 800-63, which outlines a very different recommended password architecture. What started out as a project to simply review and slightly revise Burr's policy recommendations became an eye-opening look into how users and criminals were using passwords. And results came back with a HUGE change in password policy.  Instead of a hard-to-remember, cryptic password, it was instead recommending four or five easy to remember words all pressed together. This is easy for the user to remember, change and use, and tough for the computer hackers to crack due to the length and randomness of the password. A cartoon on XKCD.com  estimated that a password created using Burr's methods, "Tr0ub4dor&3" would take only three days to crack using current methods. A password of four words all mixed together would take 550 years. That password was "correcthorsebatterystaple." Which one do you think is easier to remember, and change? And if you DO need to change the password, which is now only recommended in the event of a data breach or similar event, you can swap out an entire word instead of just adding a "1" or "!" to the password.  It will be interesting to see how this is adapted and implemented across websites and networks. Most rules won't allow passwords regardless of length, to not contain numbers, special charactes and upper/lower case, so there's a lot of things that have to change for these guidelines to become common, but it makes sense.   Do you have thoughts on this or anything else technology related? Let me know on Twitter or at BeBizzy.com!

Active in the community, Lane is a member of the Marietta Rotary Club, served as a founding member of the Outstanding Young People of Atlanta, a member of Leadership Georgia and the first female president of the Atlanta Press Club. She also got involved with a little thing called the Beastly Feast in its first year. Planning this fundraiser for Zoo Atlanta was an eye-opening experience, Lane said. "We had to beg a barbecue establishment to donate food and arrange to borrow a dance floor and get a band!" With no expense budget, Lane and the other volunteer committee members staged the event with success - and even made some money. Today, the Beastly Feast raises more than $1 million in one night. Gloria went on to chair other successful events, such as the Humane Society's Pedigreed Affair at the illustrious Piedmont Driving Club and a day-long seminar for AT&T, introducing new products to Atlanta women. Lane left television to be a stay-at-home mom and, eventually, a magazine publisher. Over the years, she'd grown weary of the negativity embraced by TV news with its mantra, "If it bleeds, it leads." She wanted to report on the positive. In 1981, against the advice of friends and colleagues, she launched Season Magazine to spotlight charitable events, dedicated volunteers and upbeat happenings in Atlanta. The response was so tremendous the magazine went from an annual to a quarterly. Now she has begun Atlanta Social Season, a newly redesigned publication getting back to the heart of Atlantans. "In nearly 25 years, we have never published a negative word," Lane says, "and we never will!" While the magazine continues to cover Atlanta's social scene, the editorial content includes include profiles, local interviews with Atlanta's top philanthropists, fashion, travel, health & beauty, art, dining and home & design. "We are still keeping with the original mission to showcase Atlantans doing great things for our wonderful city," Lane says. After 25 years as the nation’s leading youth photography franchise, TSS Photography has a great deal to commemorate: 230 locations throughout 42 states, 165 franchisees across the nation taking photos of more than 1.5 million children annually, a product line consisting of more than 200 novelty photo items and a brand synonymous with today’s most progressive youth photography products and services.Joe explained "We credit our tremendous growth and marketplace endurance to the recruitment of dedicated franchisees who consistently exemplify the TSS Photography brand in markets throughout the country by providing professional and hassle-free customer service, product innovation and community care and involvement.” Since its founding in 1983, TSS Photography has evolved its product and service offerings to remain the leader in the youth photography industry. In addition to offering a wide variety of photography services for schools, youth sports, corporations, special events and other community organizations, TSS franchisees help parents turn their children’s ordinary portraits into lasting keepsakes. Children’s digital photos can be electronically formatted on more than 200 different novelty products at the TSS corporate laboratory in Atlanta. The evolution to digital equipment has helped franchisees step up their quality services with reduced turnaround time, immediate photo quality feedback, and increased online re-ordering options for customers. Some of the most popular products include a mock Sports Illustrated magazine cover, trading cards and cozy throws and pillows. Innovative customer offerings also include life-size wall images called 'WallPix ™,’ photo memo boards and photo mug mates, to name just a few. TSS launched the unique “Young Masters” program, where images of children’s artwork can be transferred onto mugs, mouse pads, sweatshirts, and other products that can be used everyday. Joe said “Parents end up discarding much of their kids’ artwork because they simply run out of room on the fridge. We help parents turn these precious pieces of their children’s youth into beautiful, functional memorabilia.” TSS Photography also increases its market share through alliances with national organizations and sports leagues such as the Babe Ruth League, Inc., National Recreation and Parks Association, YMCA and Police Athletic League. In addition, TSS Photography has a history of deep-rooted philanthropy within the corporate culture, giving back to the community as a vital partner with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
