I LOVED this conversation so much, and think it's an essential piece for those of us in partnership with men, male bodies, and raising boys. Kieran Pollitt, British emotional release and trauma coach (and champion of inner child healing, you know I love it!) illuminates so beautifully the complexity of masculinity today, how cultural conditioning impacts men's ability to emotional express, the problems this causes to men and their relationships, and the necessity of safe spaces for vulnerability. This is a collective need and will take a collective effort to shift the tides of the toxic telephone game of culture that has kept our men trapped inside of themselves and away from others for far too long. So grateful for this conversation and Kieran's work! You can connect with Kieran further on his IG: @ kieranpollitt_ Takeaways *Masculinity is being redefined in today's society. *Creating safety is essential for emotional healing. *Anger can be a gateway to deeper emotions. *Somatic work helps release stored emotions in the body. *Inner child work is crucial for healing past traumas. *Healthy relationships require emotional safety and connection. *Self-expression is vital for personal growth and authenticity. *Community support enhances the healing journey. *Trusting the process of healing leads to transformation. Book Vs. Movie: Cat on a Hot Tin RoofThe 1955 Play Vs. the 1958 Classic FilmThe Margos are feeling very Southern in this episode devoted to the work of Tennessee Williams and his personal favorite work--Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. The 1955 play was based on his 1952 short story “Three Plays of a Summer Game” and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama during its Broadway debut. The story of the Pollitt family in the Mississippi Delta and their personal grievances and torturous secrets was considered incredibly raw and racy for the conservative 1950s. The 1955 play was directed by Elia Kazan and starred future Dallas star Barbara Bel Geddes as Maggie “The Cat” Pollitt and Ben Gazzara as Brick Pollitt. Burl Ives (“Big Daddy”) and Madeleine Sherwood (“Sister Woman”) would go on to star in the film adaptation in 1958. Bel Geddes and Kazan were nominated for the Tony Award in the original production, and the themes of homophobia, family bonds, and sexism excited audiences then and to this day. The film was directed and adapted by Richard Brooks during a time known as the “Hays Code,” which meant the homosexual yearnings expressed by Brick Pollitt (played by Paul Newman in the movie) for his recently deceased best friend Skipper had to be downplayed. Also, the character of Maggie (Elizabeth Taylor in an Academy Award-winning performance) is more toned down and “likable” to ensure not to offend movie-goer sensitivities. What are the other differences between the original play and the film? Which version did the Margos like better? Have a listen! In this ep the Margos discuss:Playwright Tennessee Williams and how this particular story evolvedThe censoring of the original work to filmWhy the play endures. The cast of the 1958 film: Elizabeth Taylor (Maggie Pollitt,) Paul Newman (Brick Pollitt,) Burl Ives (“Big Daddy” Pollitt,) Jack Carson (Gooper Pollitt,) Judith Anderson (“Big Momma” Pollitt,) Madeleine Sherwood (“Sister Woman” Pollitt,) Larry Gates (Dr. Baugh) and Vaughn Taylor as Deacon Davis.Clips used:Maggie & Brick talk about SkipperCat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958 trailer)Ben Gazarra and 1955 clip Cat on a Hot Tin RoofBrick and Big Daddy“Mendacity”Music: Charles Wollcott Book Vs. Missouri House Elementary and Secondary Education Committee chairman Rep. Brad Pollitt (R-Sedalia) says the Show-Me State has 1.8 percent of the nation's K-12 students but 3.5 percent of the country's school districts. Chairman Pollitt joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri" to discuss his open enrollment bill, which is HCS House Bill 253. The Missouri House has narrowly passed it on an 85-69 vote. About 25 Republicans voted no on the bill, which now heads to the Senate. Critics worry it will lead to the consolidation of rural and urban schools, but Chairman Pollitt downplays that concern:

My guest today is Kate Pollitt, a business coach gifted at helping others to get out of their jars to see what is written on their labels. We talk about how time is finite and how important it is to recognise what makes you unique and connect with what lights you up.Once you do this, especially if you have a light touch and have faith in yourself, you make better choices in all aspects of your life. Recognising what makes people and businesses different - using this as the bedrock of the creative and strategic processHow Kate uses this built-in intuition to reveal people's secret sauce. How she brings everything together in images and words to show the big picture. Why can't people see their qualities? Being in a jar and not seeing the label Jeanine Coombs and John Asperien's work encompasses the notion that people are good at seeing other people's strengths but terrible at seeing their own Stepping out of your head and seeing what others see. The 6th Book from Amazon best seller Joe Pulizzi comes the story of death in a small town, the lies that covered them up, and a conspiracy that brought one man to his knees... Will Pollitt just successfully delivered the business pitch of his life -- a win he desperately needs. At the same moment 50 miles away, Will's father is found dead. Coming home gives Will a chance to reconnect with his father's life and work. Yet digging into the past, Will makes a shocking discovery: His hometown neighbors are turning up dead at alarming rates. His father seems not only involved but could he be… one of the lead operatives? Is that why his father is now dead, too? The hunt for the truth jeopardizes Will and everything he loves. And it makes him question not just his father's death, but what it means to truly live. ----- From the author - "If you love thrillers or mysteries, this book is for you. As a thriller reader myself, I've always preferred protagonists that aren't ex-FBI or someone with super powers. Will Pollitt, the main character, grew up as part of a funeral home family, but decided to follow his career passion in marketing. I know both of those worlds and enjoyed wrapping them into a killing conspiracy that will make for a truly fun ride." ----- Questions about The Will to Die by Joe Pulizzi? Get them answered here.
