We say goodbye to the land of cults with maybe the most dangerous cult of all – biblical allegory! That's right, we're tackling Darren Aronofsky's divisive and provoking mother!. Does the film stand on its own or is it simply an exercise? Is it about Aronofsky? Who got the bigger end of the wishbone baby? All of that and more within the episode. "I'll get you pregnant, if you can make that thing work." Our theme this week is RATS. So this time we discuss Bruno Mattei's wonderful Rats: Night of Terror.
We've fallen behind on editing these Wasteland episodes so we're extending the Appreciation Month topic into December as well. So, we hope you don't mind a few more trips heading out into the Dystopian fueled nightmares of the Apocalypse. It's a month long celebration of all things Post-Apocalyptic so you can expect marauders, scavengers, mutants and mayhem, cool car chases, fights over water and fuel, and battles of epic proportions. Coming up next in the dystopian and action mayhem in our 7th and final episode is a rather obscure Italian flick with 1984's "RATS: NIGHT OF TERROR" from directors Bruno Mattei (aka Vincent Dawn) and an uncredited Claudio Fragasso, who were both also co-writers on this cheesefest. This romp tells of a nuclear bomb ravaged future where most people in the world live underground, but one group of scavengers go to the surface and find a secret abandoned lab plagued with secrets and KILLER RATS! The main cast portrayed by Ottaviano Dell'Acqua, Geretta Geretta, Massimo Vanni, Gianni Franco and many more Italian film stars of that era all under various aliases. This movie has an ending that is both shocking and hard to believe. Our deep dive discussion on this grueling flick is headed off by the duo of Cameron Scott with friend and frequent cohost of the Howling At The full Moon Podcast, Dustin Hubbard. Join them and buckle in because it's going to be a wild ride! "This stupid machine needs a kick in the balls!"

In this trilling episode, Arian has picked a flick with some teeth! The duo reviews the Italian, John Carpenter rip off masterpiece that is 1984's Rats: Night of Terror. In a post apocalyptic future that some how still has old timey buildings, a gang of marauding bikers hold up in an abandoned town with the hope of making a future there. What the gang doesn't realize is that the town is infested with millions of slightly mutated rats of ill repute. Will the gang survive the night? Listen and find out! **Word of warning – the first fifty minutes of the show has less than great audio. For some reason a buzzing was on the track and the only way I could eliminate it was to crush some of the less loud portions of the sound out. Sadly, this dropped most of the laughter from the amused ladies in the room and causes the softer ends of some words to be lost as well. I'm sorry about this – I'll work to make sure it doesn't happen again.** I am joined once again by Bobby Hazzard and John Hudson to roll around in Italian sleaze! This time I chose the film and, since I was in a post-apocalypse frame of mind, we end up talking about our first Bruno Mattei film. RATS NIGHT OF TERROR (1984) is probably my favorite of Mattei's efforts, which some will claim is damning it with faint praise – I can't disagree. We talk about how we first encountered this mad movie and its regular video companion HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD (1980). Tied into that, Huson notes the strong similarities of this film's plot to the classic NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968) siege scenario. Other post-apocalypse exploitation movies are used for comparison with this one coming in as a lesser effort in some way but not in others. The portentous ‘Star Wars' inspired opening voiceover has us trying to square the supposed 225 years ‘After the Bomb' timeline it provides but we do have a lot of un noting that the world ended in 2015. Actress Geretta Geretta has talked about this film on several occasions and we relate a few of her more interesting tales of working in Italian cinema without speaking the language. Other topics include dodging iguanas, buckets of rats and well-done fire stunts complete with some unfortunate animal cruelty. We do eventually end up spoiling the excellent ending, so you have been warned. If you have any comments about this film or any other we've covered on the show thebloodypit@gmail.com is the place to send them. We thank you for listening and we will do our best to avoid audio problems in the future.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Musical - (1975)The Colour Out Of Space - AdaptacionesDie, Monster, Die! (1965)The Curse (1987)The Colour From Out Space (2019)The Thing (1982)Rats: Night of Terror (1982) - Miedo a que haya seres que creemos inútiles, que por cuestiones del destino, resultan super inteligentes. The Tommyknockers (1993)Independence Day (1996)Mars Attacks! This is not the greatest horror movie in the world, this is just a tribute. James Gunn's love letter to monster movies is a shining star in the morass of 2000's horror, It's surprising that it doesn't get more love. (0:34) - Intro(8:45) - Trailer(10:39) - Synopsis(11:19) - Review(17:15) - Score(21:48) - Spoilers(52:10) - Attack of the Rotten Tomatoes Game(1:01:01) - Outro Art by Dustin Goebel (@dgoebel00 on Insta) Synopsis Slither tells the story of a loving husband trying to have sex with his wife by any means possible. He discovers a lot about himself and makes a lot of friends along the way. Actually it's about a parasitic worm that arrives from space to terrorize a small town in South Carolina. The worm inserts itself into a sexually frustrated local businessman and multiplies until it takes over most of the town. Along the way a ragtag group of townspeople join together to fight back against the slithering invasion. https://youtu.be/SI0BcgVdSWg Review of Slither Slither is written and directed by James Gunn, before he got canceled and then uncanceled by Disney. His style shows here with just the right amount of humor and winking at the audience. It was obviously a love letter to the horror genre, as it imitates about a dozen other horror classics such as The Thing, Society, The Blob, Rats: Night of Terror, and Star War The Phantom Menace. The cast is great, the premise is fun, and the story is executed well. It drags at some points, but has some genuinely great scenes and set pieces that overshadow any momentary boredom. More than anything, this is a fun ride and probably deserves more attention than it gets. In a post-apocalyptic earth, where most of humanity lives underground, a group of surface people stumble upon an abandoned lab that was trying to bring life back to the earth's surface, but the place is run over by vicious rats.
This week, join us as we discuss Claudio Fragasso's 1990 giallo - somehow both derivative and remarkably unique - Nightkiller! Yes, the creator of such masterpieces as Troll 2 and Rats: Night of Terror applied his unique perspective (with help from Bruno Mattei) to the Italian slasher world. On this episode: the theatrical pedigree of aerobics, exposition via newscast, exposition via breast massage, exposition via clinical diagnosis, curing amnesia through trauma, Little Red Riding Hood re-enactment, Freddy Krueger costuming, and an adult man molested in the little boys' room!

At long last, and after much misunderstanding, we turn to the 1984 cult classic (at least in Sweden apparently) Rats: Night of Terror. We did it. It's done. Let's never talk of it again. @dgoebel00 on Instagram provided this amazing artwork. Follow him and check out his website. Rats: Night of Terror Poster Synopsis A tribe of rats called the Jellicles must decide yearly which one will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new Jellicle life. Oh wait that’s not right. Rats is about a post nuclear apocalyptic world in which all vegetation is destroyed and humans are separated in to two factions, one above ground and one below. This has little to nothing to do with the actual plot of this movie, but the filmmakers thought it important that you know this. Rats is really about killer rats. That’s it. Review of Rats: Night of Terror Rats is bad. Sure it can be argued that it is so bad it’s good, and there are many times that I can point to where I laughed that the ridiculousness of certain scenes, but when it comes down to it, it’s a bad movie. What makes it worse is that we were forced to watch it, which in essence makes this a school book report. No one likes reading books for a book report. It took me about 2.5 hours to watch a 1.5 hour long movie, because I had to just take a break from the boredom every couple minutes. The worst part about Rats is the snails pace in which anything happens. Even if you are looking for a gory exploitation horror film, this one falls short. Most rat attacks just look like a bunch of dead rats being dumped on someone, proceeded by the victim lazily rolling around among some lazy and disinterested rats. Benvenuto! This week we celebrate cinema italiano! There's a wide berth of genres being covered: sword and sandal, giallo, zombie, and post-apocalyptic. First off, Darryll and Desmond take in a viewing of Lucio Fulci's Conquest. Then, Devil Dinosaur Jr. is stirred, but not shaken, by the mostly unseen giallo film starring no one's favorite James Bond: Who Saw Her Die? Finally, Desmond returns to review Blue Underground's Blood-Soaked Double Feature Blu-ray which features two films by Italian schlock merchant Bruno Mattei: Hell of the Living Dead and Rats: Night of Terror. And of course, some songs to be serenaded by on a gondola through the canals of Venice: "Conquest" by Judas Priest, "Smoking Snakes" by Sabaton, "El Prima Baso" by Ennio Morricone, "Rats" by Clutch, and "Conquest" by rokOpera Inc.
