In this lively episode, Karl Bryan and Road Dog hold a rapid-fire word association session with topics ranging from vision boards, ideal clients, and the importance of focus, to optimizing your personal brand as a coach. The duo dive into sales psychology, coaching industry pitfalls, branding, and authentic confidence, while also addressing the realities of anxiety among high-performers. As always, practical business advice is served up with real stories, strategic frameworks, and the sharp banter that defines Business Coaching Secrets. Key Topics Covered Vision Boards & Visualization Myths Karl Bryan unpacks why traditional vision boards often fail: simply visualizing success can give your brain a false sense of achievement, sapping true motivation (03:32). Instead of picturing only winning, he advocates "negative visualization"—writing down potential failures and pre-planning solutions for setbacks. Identifying Your Ideal Client Your best client is often "you five years ago." Coaches mistakenly target sexy industries (real estate, dentistry), but these are hyper-competitive. The smarter move: target less glamorous but profitable industries like waste management or packaging (13:11), and focus on companies with higher profit margins and willingness to invest in growth. Laser-Like Focus in an AI World Karl Bryan emphasizes that focus is becoming incredibly rare—and therefore valuable. He compares scattered effort to walking ten steps in ten directions instead of one direction (17:24). Staying focused on compounding progress and tracked outcomes separates extraordinary coaches and clients from the perpetually busy. The Power of the Crazy Ones "The crazy ones make all the money." Karl Bryan discusses the direct link between optimism, bold self-promotion, and outsized success. From Tony Robbins to The Rock, those who build and broadcast their personal brand win big (22:44). Status matters: Branding yourself as "the #1 coach in your city" isn't just marketing; it sets a new identity that accelerates referrals and authority. Authenticity, Identity, and Operating With Anxiety Don't try to become someone abstractly "better;" instead, amplify your true self (53:51). Anxiety is framed not as a curse, but as the price of ambition. Karl Bryan offers concrete tools to dissolve—not just diminish—anxiety, spotlighting the power of breathwork and being present in the moment (55:14). Notable Quotes "Your best client is you five years ago, the end." "The crazy ones make all the money. You have to speak your way to success." "In the absence of tracked outcomes, work culture defaults to whatever is easiest in the moment." "Be ruthless with planning and problem-solving… vision board, good; problem-solving, better." "All you need is within you now. Drop the mic." "Anxiety is an unhealthy fixation on the future. Solution—be present. Breathe." Actionable Takeaways Write Down Failures, Not Just Goals: Use negative visualization: Identify possible failures and map out action plans before you hit obstacles. Target Profitable, Less Competitive Industries: Skip the sexy, crowded niches. Seek businesses with bigger margins and less competition—think packaging, labs, environmental services. Track What Matters: Focus on one direction. Track outcomes relentlessly, not just activity. Brand Yourself with Conviction: Claim your space ("#1 coach in [your city]"), own it, and communicate it confidently in all networking and marketing channels. Systematize and Gamify Referrals: Develop live events and referral strategies that consistently put new prospects in your pipeline. Tame Anxiety with Presence and Breathwork: When anxiety spikes, slow your breath—breathe out longer than you breathe in. Practice being "here and now," not trapped in future worries. Promote Your Story—Consistently: Develop and repeat your personal story, learn to tell it with confidence, and turn it into a metaphor for overcoming challenges. Business Coaching Secrets Episode 330 Recap In this episode, Karl Bryan and Road Dog dive deep into the hidden levers behind luxury branding for coaches, the power of the "illusion of scarcity," and the real-world tactics for building an elite personal brand and momentum. They unpack why so many coaches lose the "battle within," what actually works to attract high-end clients, why quality sleep is a business advantage, and concrete ways to overcome the self-promotion struggle. Authentic, actionable, and packed with direct advice, this episode is your roadmap for moving from stuck to standout in your coaching business. Key Topics Covered Luxury Branding and the Illusion of Scarcity Karl Bryan reveals why luxury brands like Rolex, Ferrari, and Louis Vuitton succeed—it's less about their logo and more about perceived scarcity and margins. Tangible tactics for coaches to position themselves as high-value, "hard-to-get" authorities, using the example of a busy calendar and limited client spots. Overcoming the Battle Within Karl Bryan shares mindset frameworks for winning the internal struggle (imposter syndrome, lack of focus) that derails coaches. Why changing your identity—not just your thoughts—is the foundation for lasting transformation. The Science of High Performance: Sleep, Energy & Routine Game-changing advice on tracking sleep and its direct impact on business results. How routines, environment, and sleep discipline make elite performance possible for coaches and clients alike. Building a Magnetic Personal Brand Why so many coaches struggle with self-promotion and the bio trap—and the surprising truth about what really builds trust and reputation online. Step-by-step guidance on creating daily content, showing value, and leveraging both AI and authenticity. Momentum, Discipline, and Consistency How to set activity-based targets (like 25 daily reach-outs) and detach from outcomes to build real momentum. The compounding power of relentless daily action and how skipping days destroys progress—using analogies from Michael Phelps, Tom Brady, and more. Notable Quotes "If you don't believe in your coaching, you won't transfer belief. You can't transfer what you don't already own." – Karl Bryan "You don't want your marketing to be Toyota in a Ferrari world. Illusion of scarcity is a superpower." – Karl Bryan "You can do anything, but you can't do everything. Define what you want—clarity is the cure for being stuck." – Karl Bryan "Sleep is probably the greatest investment you can make—in your life, in your business, everywhere." – Karl Bryan "Trust is built in moments, not your bio. The lurkers are the ones who buy." – Karl Bryan "The only thing harder than building a brand is trying to keep this podcast under 90 minutes." – Karl Bryan Actionable Takeaways Create Scarcity in Your Practice: Limit the number of client spots, show a full calendar, and don't always be available. Position yourself as in demand—even before you're full. Be Activity-Driven: Set daily reach-out targets (like 25 per day). Track activities, not just results, and detach from what you can't control. Invest in Sleep: Build a consistent, high-quality sleep routine. Track your sleep depth and protect your energy as fiercely as your calendar. Build Authority Through Value Moments: Focus social content on authentic "aha" moments, stories, and real solutions instead of just credentials. Leverage AI Wisely: Use tools like ChatGPT to spark and structure social content, but always infuse your unique personality and experiences. Momentum Is Everything: Don't skip days. Small actions, consistently applied, create compounding results. Discipline is the difference-maker. Serve Before You Sell: Offer value openly in your market—through events, free calls, and actionable insights—before expecting a sale. Personal Brand Focus: Don't obsess over your bio or likes; serve, post, and show your expertise. The buyers ("lurkers") are watching. Resources Mentioned Profit Acceleration Software™ (developed by Karl Bryan) – Demonstrates instant value and ROI to prospects. Focus.com – Coaching resources, daily emails, and events. Sleeping Tools: Oura Ring (for tracking sleep and activity). AI Content Creation: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude—leverage AI for personalized, scalable content. Book: "The Art of War" (for mindset & strategy). Networking: Joint ventures, local live events, and online groups (but focus on being with business owners, not just other coaches). Hey there, music-lovers. Welcome to Why Music Matters, a podcast where we examine the power and influence that music can wield in our lives. I'm your host, Jeff Miers. Today, I've got an old friend stopping by 678Main Studios. I've known Greg Klyma for more than three decades. During that time, I've watched him evolve from an aspiring songwriter and bandleader performing during Open Mic Nights at Nietzsche's in downtown Buffalo, into a seasoned touring artist with more than a dozen album releases to his credit. Taking a page from the book of greats in the folk, old school country, and singer-songwriter schools, Greg hit the road in the late 90s, and he hasn't looked back since. Along the way, he's played his songs to rooms full of strangers who'd soon become friends, honed his craft as a performer and writer, and learned a thing or two about our country as the tires of his ‘apartment-on-wheels' passed over its varied terrain. If you know Greg, you already know - he's a gifted and passionate raconteur, one who is always ready with a song and a story to go with it. His love for music is deep and boundless. And during today's episode, he offers us some insight into both the roots of that love, and the way it has evolved over time's passage. Welcome to Why Music Matters, Greg Klyma…

Before the dynasties, before the banners, before Brady, before Belichick, even before Bledsoe, there was the 1985 New England Patriots. A team built on grit, not glamour.History often remembers the champions, yet the 1985 New England Patriots didn't win a championship. Yet in this case, they are remembered for the journey, a journey that was one of the most memorable in NFL History. In this episode of the Historically Speaking Sports Podcast, the place where we give you sports from back in the day, Co hosts Charles Combs and Dana Auguster will bring you back to the mid 1980s. In this edition will will talk about Patriots' first AFC Championship team that posted three, count them, three postseason upsets that included ending a losing streak that dated back to the Lyndon Johnson administration. This was a team that was devoid of big names and huge stars. But was comprised of several solid individuals that was the personification of blue collar teamwork. Leading this group was a head coach who had made his own way into Canton as a Hall of Fame receiver, but his quiet understated style was the trademark of this great team. Later in the show we will send a shout out to a former Patriot great, whose clutch performance that season made him a New England legend plus a discussion on who was actually the worse Super Bowl participant. In this episode of Business Coaching Secrets, Karl Bryan flies solo (with Road Dog sending in questions) and dives deep into trending business topics, including the unpredictable future of AI, motivating affluent business owners, mastering networking charisma, and the true meaning of adaptability in business. Karl also shares a heartfelt personal story and his “Zen” take on purpose, legacy, and what makes life meaningful—offering practical strategies and inspirational takeaways for coaches and entrepreneurs aiming to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Key Topics Covered 1. AI Uncertainty, Hype, and How to Handle It as a Coach Karl reflects on reactions to his AI predictions and discusses why the loudest experts often know the least. Real-world AI adoption is more delayed and unpredictable than people expect—think self-driving cars and regulatory hurdles. The smarter play: treat AI as “gasoline” (an accelerator), not the “vehicle.” Integrate and adapt, but don't get paralyzed by hype or panic. Educate yourself, but don't let the hype steal your focus—stay grounded in serving clients and growing your practice. 2. The Four Pillars of a Meaningful Life Karl opens up about a personal loss, sharing four foundational elements for a purposeful life: something to love, something to look forward to, something to work on, and something to believe in. He ties these into both personal and coaching success, urging listeners to minimize distractions (entertainment) and maximize presence, connection, and purpose. 3. How to Motivate Wealthy (Non-Money-Motivated) Clients Most people are driven by money, status, relationships, or freedom; successful business owners often shift motivation from money to status or freedom. Karl stresses you must first discover their TRUE motivator—often it's still achievement, status, freedom, or a new challenge. Set clear rules and targets: If the goalpost keeps moving (“I just need 3x more to feel successful”), help them create urgency and satisfaction with a concrete number and timeframe. 4. Charisma and Connection in Networking The #1 secret to converting coaching clients at groups like BNI or Chamber: charisma. Ditch the boring, predictable intros. Karl shares headline techniques for memorable, magnetic first impressions and the power of presence. True connection comes from listening to listen (not to respond), giving others your undivided attention, and being both interesting and interested. Actionable body language and confidence cues, plus tips for delivering genuine, effective compliments. 5. Adaptability Over Strength Businesses (and coaches) that survive and thrive aren't the strongest—they're the most adaptable. Real-world examples: McDonald's pivot to breakfast, Netflix's shift to content creation, Lego's partnerships, and Karl's own pivot to focus on profit (not just revenue) in his Profit Acceleration Software. Adaptability is about integrating feedback fast, pivoting with change, and using new technology (like AI) as an accelerator, not a crutch. Notable Quotes “AI is gasoline, not the vehicle… use it as turbo for your business.” “You want to motivate someone? First, know exactly what motivates them.” “Be interesting and be interested. Give them the gift of your presence.” “It's not the strong who survive—it's the adaptable.” “Four things for a meaningful life: something to love, something to look forward to, something to work on, something to believe in.” Actionable Takeaways Use AI as an Accelerator: Educate yourself on AI tools and opportunities, but don't let the noise overwhelm you—focus on integrating AI to speed up and improve what you already do well. Double Down on Connection: Whether with clients or new contacts, deliver your full attention, make genuine compliments, and be confident in your introductions to stand out in a crowd. Discover and Target Core Motivators: Before you can motivate a client (especially one who thinks they've “arrived”), figure out if they're now seeking status, freedom, or new achievement—then tailor your coaching accordingly. Limit Distraction, Maximize Purpose: Trim entertainment and refocus on your own family, finances, and business. Use the “four pillars of meaning” as a self-check. Set Concrete Goals and Rules (for Yourself and Clients): Instead of always moving the goalpost, agree on a success benchmark and timeframe. Use time as a tool to create urgency and satisfaction. Practice Charisma at Networking Events: Open with confidence—try lines like, “Hi, I'm Karl Bryan. I don't think we've met yet.” Share your three most interesting facts, and always listen to truly understand. Model Adaptability: Stay ready to pivot—learn from feedback, embrace new technologies, and don't get stuck in old ways just because they once worked. Resources Mentioned Profit Acceleration Software (developed by Karl Bryan) – Tools for coaches to accelerate business profits using incremental improvements. Networking Groups: – BNI, Chamber of Commerce Recommend Reading: – “The Game” by Neil Strauss (for lessons on charisma and connection) Mindset Quotes: – Mother Teresa on the ripple effect of one person's love – Wayne Gretzky on skating not to the puck, but “where the puck is going” If you enjoyed the episode, please subscribe, share with a fellow coach, and leave a review. Dive into the secrets of building a thriving coaching business with our latest podcast episode of Business Coaching Secrets! In Episode 283, Karl Bryan and Road Dog unpack essential strategies and insights to elevate your coaching practice. Here are three key takeaways from this episode: Simplicity in Business: Keeping it simple is crucial. As Karl mentioned, “Get clients, keep clients.” This straightforward approach helps in focusing on the core of business success. By clearly defining the starting line and the finish line, you set a path for measurable progress. Value of Accumulated Wealth: Karl emphasizes that 80% of wealth is accumulated rather than earned. Investing in appreciating assets like real estate, stocks, or businesses can combat inflation and build substantial long-term wealth, much like Warren Buffett's strategies. Effective Business Models: Rethinking your business model can massively impact success. Karl's example with accountants moving from a low-fee, high-volume model to a higher-value consulting approach showcases the power of innovative thinking. This principle can be applied to various industries, including coaching. Don't miss out on these invaluable insights! Check out Episode 283 of Business Coaching Secrets now. Building a Successful Coaching Business: Key Insights from Business Coaching Secrets Podcast In our latest episode of "Business Coaching Secrets," Karl Bryan and co-host Road Dog dive deep into strategies for building a thriving coaching business. Whether you're an experienced coach or just starting out, this episode is packed with valuable insights. Here are three key takeaways: Go All In for Success: Many coaches fail because they are half-hearted about their business. Carl emphasizes the importance of commitment and having a clear vision. This is akin to Mel Fisher's relentless 17-year pursuit of treasure, driven by three core beliefs: Belief that the opportunity exists : Conviction that business owners are out there and want to grow. Belief in your capability : Confidence that you can be the one they choose to guide them. Belief in the worthiness of the journey : Understanding that the trials and tribulations will be worth it in the end. Avoid Unforced Errors: Drawing parallels with sports, Carl explains how unforced errors can be detrimental in business. Some common mistakes include: Focusing on the wrong clients : Spending too much time on squeaky wheel clients rather than the profitable 20%. Neglecting fundamentals : Like tennis players who keep the ball in play, business owners need to stay consistent with their core practices to avoid costly mistakes. Build a Personal Brand: Personal branding can set you apart in a crowded market. Carl points out how successful individuals like Tony Robbins and Elon Musk get paid more for who they are than what they do: Use social media effectively : Create content that resonates with your audience and share it consistently. Evolve your brand : Just like Mark Zuckerberg rebranded himself over time, be willing to adapt and grow your personal brand. Be memorable and inspiring : Craft a vision that makes others take notice. Remember the power of a big, bold statement. Check out the full episode for more insights and actionable advice on driving success in your coaching business!

Yep, we all thought we knew exactly what to expect from the round of 16 of the Division III football playoffs. What did we get instead? Something way, way more interesting. That's the national champion being ousted. That's St. John's falling at home on the final play of the game. And that's a bracket with four quarterfinal games, three of which are being hosted by teams in Region 2 and none in Minnesota, Wisconsin or Ohio. (Shout out to Illinois as the fourth host!) Besides, Division III football isn't scripted. It's not the NBA. Instead, we have Springfield, having beaten the No. 2 team in the nation and the defending national champion, then getting into a plane to play at No. 1 North Central. Did you have "getting on a plane" on your Springfield football bingo card? You know they're looking forward to this, and the memories that form from such an event, and Pride coach Mike Cerasuolo joins us on the podcast for the first time since so long ago we hadn't started numbering yet. (But it was Podcast 146, from May 2016, when Cerasuolo was first hired.) He talks about what the triple option actually is, how his team got past Cortland, and the challenge the Pride have ahead of them. Plus, we hand out game balls, including one to a star running back who, actually, has really become a much better blocker this season. We run down all eight games and give our thoughts on the upcoming quarterfinal matchups. Plus we take three reader questions, one about those Road Dogs from Belton, Texas, one asking which team's phase of the game or position group surprised us most and one about the Gagliardi Trophy. Plus, be the first people to learn when we will release the 2024 D3football.com All-America team!
