George Lowe was the voice of Space Ghost in the Cartoon Network mini-talk-show SPACE GHOST: COAST TO COAST, and he was funny as fuck, and a brilliant comedian and a really good guy, but he has died, and I hate it. Let's ignore everything else horrible in the world for just two hours and play tunes about SPACE and GHOSTS. On the 2003 album of nerdcore pioneer mc chris titled "Knowing Is Half The Hassle", he did a track called "White Kids Love Hip-Hop" which featured his fellow [adult swim] voice acting star Andy Merrill doing the voice of his "Space Ghost Coast To Coast" and "Cartoon Planet" character Brak delivering a rant about how how he couldn't find anything fun to do in the town where he lives. Every year at the MarsCon Comedy Music Track there is a concert called the 'Smackdown' where all of the acts that performed that weekend come back on stage to close the weekend by taking turns doing cover versions of their favorite comedy songs. I, the great Luke Ski, have a long bucket list of comedy songs I love that I would love to perform a cover version of someday at the Smackdown concert. "White Kids Love Hip-Hop" has been on that list for years, with my assumption being that if I ever did it, the 'Brak' part would have been played by me doing my impersonation of Brak, as I had done for my 1998 tribute song "Baby Got Brak". In 2024, we were fortunate enough to book Andy Merrill as the Comedy Music Guest Of Honor at MarsCon. I was ecstatic. As I continued working on plans for the event, I eventually got around to looking at my bucket list of potential cover songs so I could pick one to cover at the Smackdown. When my eyes came upon the title "White Kids Love Hip-Hop", it hit me like a power band blast... I could cover "White Kids Love Hip-Hop" and ask Andy Merrill himself to reprise his role as Brak for the rant at the end of the song. I asked him if he'd be willing to, and he said yes. And the audio record of that actually happening in real life is what this FuMP track is. After we performed it, Andy took his turn at the Smackdown and performed a couple of "Weird Al" covers to finish off the weekend. I reached out to both mc chris and Andy Merrill to get their permission to post this live cover at the FuMP, and they both graciously said yes. So many thanks to both of them, you both have been inspirations to me, and have always been nice to me, which means a lot to this middle-aged fanboy. I admit, I do trip up a few of the lyrics in my performance, but I still think it went great, and it's one of my all-time favorite MarsCon memories that I wanted to share with everybody here at the FuMP. Music by Professor Shyguy Back-up White Kids: Lindsay Smith and Insane Ian This track is a part of the MarsCon 2025 Comedy Music Track Fund Raiser album, which is a nearly 4-hour-long MP3 album of live concert excerpts from MarsCon 2024, available to download for just $30 at the Shop page of MarsCon Comedy dot com. Besides the great Luke Ski and Andy Merrill, it also has performances by Insane Ian, Power Salad, Nuclear Bubble Wrap, Holy Bongwater, Jake Dewar, and many others. The funds raised go towards covering the hotel room costs for the performers of MarsCon 2025. Speaking of which, MarsCon 2025 is happening March 7th thru 9th in the Twin Cities, MN, and features our Comedy Music Guests Of Honor, John S. Hall and Dogbowl of King Missile (Dog Fly Religion), sponsored by Needlejuice Records. Aqua Teen Hunger Force, often abbreviated as ATHF, emerged as a groundbreaking animated television series that carved its niche in the surreal and absurd. Created by Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro, the show debuted on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block in 2000, becoming a cult favorite for its unique brand of humor, unconventional characters, and offbeat storytelling.Set in the fictional city of New Jersey, the series revolves around three anthropomorphic fast-food items: Master Shake, a selfish and erratic milkshake; Frylock, an intelligent and rational box of fries; and Meatwad, a lovable but naive ball of meat. Together, they form the Aqua Teen Hunger Force, often embarking on bizarre adventures that defy the norms of traditional storytelling. One of the distinctive features of ATHF is its episodic structure, where each 11-minute segment presents a standalone story, often absurd and chaotic. The series thrives on randomness, incorporating elements of science fiction, fantasy, and surrealism. The narrative weaves through a tapestry of strange occurrences, with the Aqua Teens encountering eccentric characters like the Mooninites, the Plutonians, and the Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future.Master Shake, voiced by Dana Snyder, embodies the epitome of self-centeredness and delusional grandeur. His erratic behavior often serves as a catalyst for the team's misadventures. Frylock, voiced by Carey Means, provides a voice of reason, possessing superhuman abilities like levitation and eye lasers. Meatwad, voiced by series co-creator Dave Willis, is the innocent and childlike member, often acting as the heart of the group. One of the defining aspects of Aqua Teen Hunger Force is its irreverent humor, which ranges from absurdity and wordplay to satirical commentary. The show fearlessly parodies pop culture, societal norms, and the conventions of traditional animated storytelling. It often blurs the lines between reality and fantasy, leaving viewers in a perpetual state of comedic disorientation. The Aqua Teen Hunger Force not only engages with its audience through humor but also employs a unique visual style. The animation is intentionally simplistic, enhancing the overall absurdity of the series. The show's opening sequence, featuring the Aqua Teens driving through the streets of New Jersey, has become iconic, accompanied by the catchy and surreal theme song.Throughout its run, ATHF maintained a loyal fan base drawn to its unpredictability and subversive comedic style. The series became a staple of Adult Swim's programming, contributing to the network's reputation for unconventional and boundary-pushing content. Aqua Teen Hunger Force concluded its run in 2015 after 11 seasons, leaving behind a legacy as a pioneering force in the world of animated comedy. In retrospect, Aqua Teen Hunger Force stands as a testament to the creativity and innovation that can flourish in the realm of adult animation. Its legacy is not just in its longevity but in the cultural impact it had on a generation of viewers who embraced the unconventional and celebrated the absurdity that unfolded within the walls of the Aqua Teens' humble abode in New Jersey.www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and presented to you by The Barn Media Group.
While Our Host Ned Hastings wasn't real in Super Trivia, he's real as hell in person. A foundational member of the Aqua Teen crew, Ned entered the Adult Swim world with Space Ghost Coast to Coast in 1999. After working on some of the show's best episodes, Ned contributed to a very early iteration of the Rabbot episode as an ATHF proof-of-concept. From there, he went on to shape the series with crucial input on Mayhem of the Mooninites, guiding the execution of the Mooninites themselves. It was on the show's seventh episode, Ol' Drippy, that Ned joined Aqua Teen full time, contributing immensely to the show ever since then. You may know that by the fact I mention him in like every episode. Ned tells us all about Aqua Teen's new process of storyboarding, his voice work throughout the series, the production process of Plantasm, and much more! Other topics discussed include which Beatle Ned is, the German belief that Salieri killed Mozart, and the shocking lack of babes at the Aqua Teen edit bay. • Ned on Twitter: https://www.instagram.com/therealnedh/ • Ned on Instagram: https://twitter.com/hastings_ned • Space Ghost Coast To Coast - My Dinner With Steven: https://archive.org/details/sgc2c-dinner-with-steven • Space Ghost on the Donny & Marie Show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Q4QIpKYQIA • A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs: https://500songs.com/ ★ Support The Show + Get Extra Episodes • Patreon: patreon.com/dancingisforbidden ★ Amazon Affiliate Links - Support The Podcast At No Extra Cost! • Aqua Teen Forever Plantasm 4K: https://amzn.to/3Svy2ea • Aqua Teen Forever Plantasm BluRay: https://amzn.to/3dLcKKS • Aqua Teen Forever Plantasm Digital: https://amzn.to/3t8cqtv • Baffler Meal 20 Disc DVD Box Set: https://amzn.to/3fmznWf Timestamps: [00:00:00] Intro [00:03:09] Animatic vs Storyboard for Season 12 [00:09:12] Season 12 Production [00:17:41] Ned's Early Years [00:24:11] Ned's First Job [00:28:30] Working on Space Ghost Coast To Coast [00:00:00] SGC2C - Dinner with Steven [00:00:00] SGC2C - Donny and Marie [00:00:00] Working on early Rabbot [00:00:00] Early ATHF/Adult Swim [00:00:00] Working on Mayhem of the Mooninites [00:00:00] Working on ATHF vs SGC2C [00:00:00] Reaction to ATHF getting cancelled in 2015? Just like music and film, comedy went through a transformation in the 1990s. Perhaps in reaction to the glut of mediocre and shallow comedians of the '80s, comedy shows like MR. SHOW, KIDS IN THE HALL, and SPACE GHOST COAST TO COAST upended expectations with their alternative brand of social commentary and changed the way we think about comedy today.

Friday Night was never the same after Adult Swim came along, and one of the pioneers of those great nights was Space Ghost Coast To Coast. The show came along side a lineup of older Hannah Barbera cartoons dubbed for comedy. Combined with the late night audience of the 90's teenager and college student, this made for a wacky brain tripping ride or a night. Wanting more is what you will get when Harvey Birdman, Sealab 2021 and the Brak Show kick it into gear on Adult Swim. Courtney Love's band Hole released their second album, Live Through This one week after the death of Kurt Cobain, Love's husband and front man for the grunge giant Nirvana. Hole originated in the punk rock scene, but are often identified with the grunge movement due to Love's relationship with Cobain and their move to Washington to write this album. In addition to frontwoman Love, the band consisted of Eric Erlandson on lead guitar, Kristen Pfaff on bass, and Patty Schemel on drums. Love and Erlandson wrote the songs, and Pfaff and Schemel were newcomers to the group, replacing bassist Jill Emery and drummer Caroline Rue who had left over creative differences. The album was noted for a toned-down and more melodic approach to things than their debut effort. Themes of the album would revolve around aspects of Courtney Love's personal life, including relationships, motherhood, and post-partum depression. A controversy that plagued the album was that much of the work was ghost-written by Kurt Cobain. Band members and producers have consistently denied this, though it is perhaps understandable how a rumor like this would get legs, following on the heels of Cobain's suicide. The only connection between Cobain and the album was that he sang backing vocals on a couple of songs when they were in the recording studio. In fact, many of the tracks were performed during Hole's previous tour. While Live Through This is considered more melodic than their previous album, that is a relative measure - the album itself is still quite raw and gritty. That didn't keep it from becoming a critical and popular success, going multi-platinum by December 1994. Unfortunately, drummer Pfaff would not live to see this feat, having died of a heroin overdose in June, just before Hole was supposed to embark on a world tour. Courtney Love would continue through several iterations of Hole, and pursue songwriting, acting, a writer of multiple manga volumes and a memoir. VioletThis song is the opening track for the album. It was inspired by Love's relationship with Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins, just prior to her relationship with Cobain. Love said this song was "about a jerk, I hexed him, and made him lose his hair." Miss WorldThe second track on the album was the first single. It is about a person who is loved by everyone, but is empty inside and drowning in depression. "I'm Miss World. Somebody kill me."Asking For ItThis deeper cut is about rape. Love talked about a time when she would stage dive, and found her clothes ripped off. Love felt like she was raped by the audience. Love's life and upbringing was a tumultuous one, with rebellion, drugs, and broken family relationships.Doll PartsThe second single from the album is likely the best known one. It reflects her insecurity with Kurt Cobain. Love and Cobain both went into rehab when Love was pregnant. Unfortunately Cobain would run away from the rehab center shortly before his suicide. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Theme from Space Ghost for “Space Ghost Coast to Coast”This comedy spoof of a late night talk show was the first original series produced by the Cartoon Network. STAFF PICKS:“Player's Ball” by OutKastBrian brings us Southern Rap from Atlanta's own OutKast. The song discusses living in the south and living in the hip hop culture. This is off OutKast's debut album entitled "Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik."“Rocks” by Primal ScreamBruce's staff pick is off Primal Scream's fourth album "Give Out But Don't Give Up." Bobby Gillespie and Jim Beattie originally formed this Scottish rock band with a psychedelic sound, but went more classic rock and blues with this album.“Found Out About You” by the Gin BlossomsRob's staff pick features the fourth single from the Gin Blossoms' second album, “New Miserable Experience.” The Gin Blossoms formed in Tempe Arizona in 1987, and were identified as alternative rock and “jangle pop.” The name comes from a picture of W.C. Fields describing his ruddy complexion. “Because the Night” by 10,000 ManiacsWayne's pick features a cover originally performed by The Patti Smith Group from 1978. Natalie Merchant fronts 10,000 Maniacs in an Unplugged version of this classic written by Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Main Theme from the motion picture “Bad Girls”This instrumental was the soundtrack from a western featuring Madeliene Stowe, Andie MacDowell, and Drew Barrymore.

Space Ghost Coast to Coast is an American animated parody talk show, hosted by the 1960s Hanna-Barbera cartoon character Space Ghost. Though the original 1960s series aired as a standard Hanna-Barbera Saturday-morning superhero cartoon, Space Ghost Coast to Coast was a total reboot of the series intended for adults, now reinterpreted as an absurdist spoof talk show and produced using the original artwork. Space Ghost Coast to Coast was recommended to be the first fully produced Cartoon Network original series, and premiered on April 15, 1994. The first two seasons were presented as a serious talk show with subdued jokes, while the later seasons relied more on surrealism, non-sequiturs, and parodies. In 2001, it moved to the network's late night television block Adult Swim. Space Ghost Coast to Coast was known for inspiring the series Cartoon Planet, The Brak Show, and Aqua Teen Hunger Force. A very special "Space Ghost Coast To Coast" episode. Dave Willis (Space Ghost, Aqua Teen Hunger Force) chooses some Space Ghost episodes for superfan Nate Smith (UCB Theatre) to watch. Nate talks about how he tailored his prom clothes to accommodate his Space Ghost fandom, and discusses his out of control TV addiction.
