Mean Girls, directed by Mark Waters and written by Tina Fey, is a cult classic teen comedy based on Rosalind Wiseman's book Queen Bees and Wannabes. The film humorously yet accurately portrays the harsh realities of high school social dynamics, focusing on cliques, peer pressure, and the impact of popularity on self-identity. The story follows Cady Heron, a homeschooled girl navigating the cutthroat social hierarchy of public high school life after moving from Africa. As she infiltrates "The Plastics," the school's most popular clique, Cady faces a moral dilemma that tests her values, self-image, and relationships. Though often comedic, the movie sheds light on serious issues like bullying, conformity, and the challenges of adolescence. In this episode, Kevin Stoller, Nancy Shapiro Rapport, and Steven Shapiro discuss the movie through the lens of parenting and education. They explore the challenges faced by kids and parents in today's society, particularly focusing on the mental health crisis and the breakdown of family structures. The conversation delves into character analyses, the impact of school environments, and the importance of emotional health in raising children.   Takeaways: Consistent, intentional conversations about values and behavior are essential for raising resilient, emotionally healthy children. Small, deliberate actions can lead to significant, long-term results. A strong family culture, built on open communication and shared values, can help children navigate social pressures and define their identity. Parents need to engage in ongoing discussions about kindness, respect, and self-worth. Technology has fundamentally changed how teens communicate and form relationships. Setting boundaries around device use and fostering in-person connections can help counteract the isolating effects of screen time. Adolescence is a time of self-discovery, and social interactions can be intense and confusing. Understanding the pressures teens face helps parents provide better support. Schools can support parents by reinforcing positive behaviors and values, while communities can provide a support network for parents navigating the challenges of raising children. Comedy can be an effective way to connect with teens, understand their world, and initiate meaningful conversations. Movies like Mean Girls use humor to highlight real issues in adolescence.     About Steven Shapiro: Steven Shapiro is a veteran school reimaginer, with over 30 years of K-12 classroom teaching experience, 15 concurrent years as a high school humanities program director, and four years as a district leader of experiential learning. If you're a consultant or member of a C-suite, you take a different approach to writing a book than an academic or fiction writer. Your primary goals are to increase your business and to help your clients increase theirs. That means you need to see your book not as an end product but as one aspect of your overall business strategy. You want to implement a holistic approach that integrates innovative business tools with a book's content. Traditional and hybrid publishers published Steven Shapiro's books. He also published independently and is an expert on leading from a holistic perspective. He's a generalist in the best sense, for he brings what he's learned from a range of businesses to each new consulting position. Unlike some authors, who move from subject to subject in each new book, Stephen advises going deeper in a way that creates more value for the reader. He also feels strongly that a book's purpose is not about royalties; it is about impact. A book's impact has a ripple effect on all the other services and products one offers. If you want to explore the possibility of getting the maximum impact from a book and build your business, study this podcast carefully. Listen in to this episode of Writing to Get Business to discover • How can an author best choose between traditional, independent, and hybrid publishing? • What are the advantages of writing and publishing books for particular clients? • Why can a brand color be a powerful marketing tool? • What are the three basic realms of products and services? • When is it better to create a new product instead of a new book? See more episodes at HTTP://www.jftalks.comConnect with me at Yac.com/JustinFHere is a rough transcript:0:00Hey this is Justin Friday morning January 15, and just got the inspiration in Russell challenges one funnel away. 30 day challenge right now and we started going with accountability partners on Monday, and I reached out to a guy just to say hello, my name is Steven Shapiro, who does a lot of the same work I do inside of the innovation space and inside of that he shared with me that he was able to produce a book in a couple of weeks. Two weeks and I've been wanting to write a book for a while. I think it is a I speak about a lot that books are people's access like like you need some expertise to be able to write a book and it is, and it also takes some work to get a book over aligned way that way that's consumable He's like, Look, I know how to get a book in your hands in two weeks to be able to start having people, you know, read it and edit it and look at it and all that good stuff. I was like cool let's do it so we started that yesterday and we're off to the work. I had a meeting with my friend Brennan Decker yesterday and I asked him at the end of it I was like look like if I were to write a book just for you based on what you know about me, what would you, what would it be called and he said shipped shit, and it's just like means a couple of different things like ship it like put it out the door and I know that's like MVP and there's a lot of language about that. But what I mean is like really ship shit I've sent audio message out there they're complete blanks. I've said audio messages, I've sent podcasts out there that are like you can't even hear what's actually going on the audio quality on this one might not be good I'm just required recording this on my iPhone right now. And when people actually hear this in the Ross forum, it might not be good. When you see this like in the podcast form the transcripts can have typos in it I'm going I'm recording this on otter directly and it's not going to make sense, originally as is, but I'm putting it out there because if it is if it lives as an idea rattling around inside the head, it doesn't do anything and it doesn't make a difference it's just those ideas rattling around inside the head, they just keep on looping around. And if we have multiple things that are occupying our mind at this point in time we're completely failing and getting paralyzed so I put my ideas out there and they're done, and then one of three things happens. Maybe it's one of four things I don't know what the number is. I put it out there and something amazing happens like somebody listens to it and it changes their lives in some way i'm not saying like they're live is 100% transformed and everything's different and, you know, say pigeons and that does get released and all that stuff but it has some impact on them. That's great. People listen to it and just another thing that they do during the day which is cool right people are gonna waste some time on some other stuff. Nobody listens to it. that's really good feedback right nobody listens to it. Is there a distribution issue, are we just putting out real crap that people are working on AI and then what happens there there's from my perspective. That's exciting. I want to do more work with that. If we want to do more work with that we move into a sprint and Sprint's can be five minutes right like ship shit right what can you get done in five minutes, then improve that thing that you worked on a little bit, and then maybe you spend 25 minutes 25 minutes to significance that's the Pomodoro method for me that's the amount of time that I could focus on one task. You know, for a period of time just the way that I work and then it was just like at that point in time if you get some momentum you move on to something else. But the reality is, or you move on and do more work with it. But the reality is 99% of the people, 99% of those ideas that are out there aren't necessarily going to make a difference, out there in the world if they're not going to be beneficial they're not going to be, you know, they're not going to be great, they're not going to be amazing. And they deserve to be moved on to but when you get the combination of the market wants this and people want this out in the world and it actually makes a difference out in the world it's something that you want to work on. That's where you know you have the Holy Grail but you're never gonna know what that thing is, until you actually put that out there so that's what the book is, and we're going to do, I'm going to put these things out here.

Remember Enron? A company that went to the highest highs only to have a dizzying fall in 2007. One of the values that Enron had put on the wall was Integrity. In hindsight no one would associate Enron with anything remotely close to integrity. As you heard in the intro, how you reach your objective matters, the end doesn't justify the means and you have to be intentional about doing it the right way when it comes to people. As it turns out, putting values on the wall means nothing. This week on the SaaS Revolution Show we bring you a session from our recent SaaStock West Coast conference where a stellar panel discusses how to nail Company Culture & Mission and How to Build an Environment Fit for Scale. What this means is creating a sustainable company with healthy culture, good demeanor and authentic behaviours exuded by everyone. Culture, inclusivity and equality matter far more than you think and if you don't spend time on them you could find yourself in Enron's shoes, with empty words hanging off your walls. So, we need to be as resilient as possible to prepare for these unexpected situations. And be willing and excited to reinvent ourselves.”  “As we have all seen in a lot of different areas of our lives, clearing out the stuff that doesn’t work makes room for the stuff that does.”  “I value trying to bring people together in a way that makes them feel comfortable and included…Community building is really important, but a lot of people do it in a way that is exclusive.”  “What are the assumptions that people are making in my field and what circumstances might have changed that would alter or impact those assumptions.”  “Whatever you are, be a good one.”  “I’m a big believer in what gets measured gets done.”  “We need to think how to scale our efforts. How to do it once and share it with the world. If you want your ideas to have maximum impact, we need to figure out how to make our voices go louder and further, with the same amount of effort. If we can scale our ideas, that is where we can start to make a difference.”  “The framework for how you can build a following around your ideas: First you build a network, then you build an audience, then you build a community.”  “Carve out more white space because that’s where ideas grow.”  FINAL FOUR  What have you done differently in your life to stand out?  I’ve been out as a gay person since I was 14. If you can just be like, ‘Yeah, that’s my deal…’, that kind of sends a message to other people too that they can be themselves.  What makes someone stand out in business or in life?  I’m a huge proponent of content creation…. One of the most important things you can do if you want to become a recognized expert, is you have to create content. Otherwise people literally just won’t know what your ideas are. And so, therefore, they can’t tell if you are an expert that should be recognized.  What’s the best advice you’ve received?  Not getting an office.  How do you want to be remembered?  As somebody who helped other people figure out how to crack the code to get their best ideas heard. I would really like to improve society by getting talented people to contribute and to have their ideas appreciated and recognized rather than just the people with the loudest voices in the room.  Links:  DorieClark.com  Stand Out Book  http://dorieclark.com/join  Schedule Once   Calendly  Hit Makers by Derek Thompson  Contagious by Jonah Berger  Revisionist History  TEDxNASA by Steven Shapiro   Entrepreneurial You  Reinventing You  Help Us Stand Out:  Find Your Yellow Tux Book  FindYourYellowTux.com  Subscribe And Leave Us A Review On iTunes  Like Us On Facebook    Co-Produced and edited by Podcast On The Go

Nestled in one of the major arteries of Chelsea, Barts rules the scene with its tongue-in-cheek, irreverent speakeasy style and its superb cocktail creations. Trying to find it in one of the 1930’s built apartment buildings can make you thirsty enough, your Barts experience begins when you ring the bell. From that moment on, you’re in Vincenzo’s hands, as he takes you to Chicago and back in one drink. The menu tells the story of the bar’s “founder,” Uncle Bart, in comic book style, and, since technically alcohol was illegal from 1920 - 1933, all the drinks sound like sodapop! Don’t worry, though your choice might be called “Uncle Jack’s Cola,” there’s definitely whiskey hiding in there somewhere. Brian Flanagan (Tom Cruise’s character for those not well-versed in the film Cocktail) would be way proud of Vincenzo!   Catch Vincenzo shaking up a healthy cocktail on our YouTube channel: Mixology in a Minute   Next time, we meet Alix Nardella, the UK Brand Ambassador for Mr. Black. “Remember, gentlemen, it’s not just France we are fighting for, it’s Champagne!” was Winston Churchill’s cri de guerre.  Only gentlemen…what about the ladies? Didn’t he know that, throughout history, women were responsible for making some of the great Champagne houses of France famous? Virginie Taittinger, our guest today, is one of those women! Barbe-Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin gave us Veuve Clicquot, Louise Pommery invented Brut, and Camille Olry-Roederer understood that celebrity and business go hand-in-hand!  Now, Virginie Taittinger has joined the sorority. Her bloodline sparkles. It’s no wonder, as her mother is a Piper-Heidsieck and her father ran Taittinger for 45 years. Trained by the best, Virginie is out on her own, following in those celebrated footsteps, doing what she was born to do - bottling bubbly. After six years aging, it’s time to pop the cork of Virginie Taittinger’s first special cuvée, Champagne Virginie T, a combination of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Not only is her champagne delicious, but the packaging is divine. The red-hot box transforms into an ice bucket. Pop the bottle into the bucket with ice and, when the label turns red, it’s ready to drink! We know that Churchill ‘s drink of choice was his Pol Roger. (wink, wink)   All of Soho mourned when Gertrude Fogg tread the boards for the very last time. Of course, it was in her nature to think of others, even after she had passed. Thanks to her generous nephew, Phileas (Around the World in 80 Days), her dying wish of transforming her humble Covent Garden flat into a tavern downstairs and a gin parlour upstairs was fulfilled. At least, that’s how Filippo Previero tells the tale. If it hadn’t been for a Mr. Bearsley in 1692, what the heck would we be drinking with our Stilton? Thank goodness, he had the foresight to create Taylor’s and that the world would catch on to the merits of Port. The Head of PR for Taylor’s, Ana Margarida Morgado, let’s us know what they’ve been up to for the past 324 years.     I had never sipped port until I was a grad student at Cambridge. Dining Clubs were aplenty and dinner always ended in cheese and port. My college even had its own label! I really felt I had missed out on all those years as an undergrad in the USA, drinking watery beer when Port had been available all the time.   Who knew there was a whole culture, full of rules and regulations, surrounding this one drink? It must be decanted, the decanter must be passed to the left and you must never forget to put that said decanter back in its hoggit.     I am sure the Brits in 1692 also felt the same way, the first time Port landed on their shores. Mr. Jack Bearsley tapped into that need and we are still enjoying the fruits of his labor so many years later. While in Porto, a visit to the Taylor’s Port Wine cellars is a must. Ana guided me through a short history of the brand, and a description of each of its many offerings: Vintage, Tawny, Late Bottled Vintage, even White! She also answers my burning question, what do the Portuguese eat with Port!?     Watch Andy Mil of Cocktail Trading Company, London make a Port Wine Sour with Taylor's Port: [embed]https://youtu.be/pD__kGvfU_s[/embed]   We are so lucky that Phileas Fogg honored his dying Aunt Gertrude’s wish to transform her tiny Soho flat into a tavern. To this day, the tavern welcomes punters from near and far and provides them with enough sustenance to brave Covent Garden - groggs, punch, pies. Upstairs though, Gertrude’s has been transformed into a Gin Parlour with 300 different brands of gins. Next week, Head Barman Filippo Previero takes us on a tour around the gins in 15 minutes! Spending years in the hallowed libraries of Oxford pouring over the ins and outs of Quantum Mechanics might lead you to drink! It certainly happened to George Economides. One stag do in Sifnos and his whole world changed from investigating particles in a box to those in a glass. Harking back to his native land of Greece, our guest today is reviving the local spirit, Mastiha, and introducing it to the rest of the world - one cocktail at a time.   George has the hardest time describing the flavor of Mastiha to those who have never tried it - bubble gum, pine, woods, a combo of all. It’s truly tough to pin down to just one word. Tasting is the only way to describe it. “Grown” on the island of Chios in the Northern Aegean, Mastiha has a rather quirky production process. The resin from the tree drops on the ground, hardens and then is collected, cleaned and reconstituted into the nectar that has made its benefits famous throughout history. The list of drinkers range from Hippocrates, the Romans, Columbus, Italian popes, Arabic Sultans and me!. After my first sip with the Cypriot, I was converted.
