Send us a textWhat if the key to healing chronic illness lies not just in medicine, but in your mind? Ravinder Taylor's journey from debilitating rheumatoid arthritis to complete recovery challenges everything we think we know about healing and recovery. After being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis shortly after her second son's birth, Ravinder found herself unable to perform basic tasks of motherhood—changing nappies, collapsing a pushchair, caring for her infant. The diagnosis threatened her independence and identity. While conventional medications helped, they weren't enough.Drawing on her decades of research into how the mind works, Ravinder developed a revolutionary three-part approach to healing. First, she explored the radical concept of self-responsibility, asking "What if I'm doing this to myself?" Through deep introspection, she uncovered subconscious conflicts potentially triggering her physical symptoms. Second, she systematically reprogrammed her mind using subliminal affirmations developed by her husband Eldon Taylor, playing them nightly for 15 months. Finally, she incorporated a targeted supplement that, combined with her mental work, allowed her to gradually stop medications completely.Twenty-five years later, Ravinder remains symptom-free—living proof of the mind's extraordinary healing capabilities. During our conversation, she shares profound insights about how our subconscious programming influences everything from health to relationships, and why true mindfulness isn't just about awareness but questioning our own thoughts and assumptions. This episode explores how the stories we tell ourselves reflect our deepest beliefs, why negative experiences outweigh positive ones, and most importantly, how we can take control of our mental programming to transform any aspect of our lives. As Ravinder so powerfully states, "Life doesn't happen to you—at any point, you can choose to do it differently."Discover these transformative principles in Ravinder's book "Mind Training: The Science of Self-Empowerment," available at all major bookstores.Ravinder Taylorhttps://ravindertaylor.comMind Training: The Science of Self-Empowerment by Ravinder Taylor and Eldon TaylorMusic from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!):https://uppbeat.io/t/sky-toes/featherlightLicense code: ZTXJPK8BA5WMLKSF My new novel The Red Magus has recently been published in conjunction with the Unbound Press. Would you like to better understand your patterns and feel more empowered? Lisa continues the conversation today with researcher and best-selling author Ravinder Taylor. She has helped literally thousands of people change their state of mind and therefore empower their lives. Her latest book is “Mind Training: The Science of Self-Empowerment.” Ravinder talks about the importance of choice. If bad things happen, it is not your fault. She asks us to ask, “What do you gain when you have a problem?” What is the difference between being informed and being prepared? How can you be aware of a problem or upcoming situation, yet not attract it? Ravinder has studied optimism and pessimism. Some people believe that doom-scrolling is about helping them feel more prepared. People have the “hope” that if they have information, they can be prepared so the worst-case won't happen. If someone looks for the negative, they will not have an enjoyable time and will feel stressed. Ravinder talks about statistics which show how much healthier people can be if they are more optimistic. What you expect, you observe. Your body will either fight or grow. Cortisol makes us feel stressed and can affect our hearts. She discusses actual techniques to increase optimism. We can be aware that some things will not work out, but if we are optimistic, we can grow and have a happier quality of life. Her “Mind Training” book talks all about the benefits of optimism and positive thinking. We can learn when things go wrong, and that means you have grown as a person. If your self-talk is positive, you cannot be depressed. Ravinder also talks about compassion and forgiveness. She talks about the prison system and studies about blame. We may need to separate ourselves from toxic people and toxic situations, but we can still offer forgiveness. She talks about the idea of “Forgiving the Unforgivable,” and Free Will. We have choices and we can teach by example. This is Part 2 of the interview. Info: RavinderTaylor.com
What happens when we really utilize the power of our mind to break through blocks to success in our lives? Or maybe you are facing a pivot and do not want to go backward into old patterns? Our guest today is researcher and best-selling author Ravinder Taylor. She has helped literally thousands of people change their state of mind and therefore empower their lives. Her latest book is “Mind Training: The Science of Self-Empowerment.” Ravinder talks about solid research which analyzed the importance of your state of mind, including a technique which improved cognitive abilities, reduced stress, and also made progress toward dementia. When she studied it further, she knew she could go deeper. What she wanted to do was take away the mystic around “self-help,” and show how in a scientific manner that positive change could be proven. She studied various self-help techniques so that the reader could find methods that work for themselves. She was looking specifically at a 12-minute meditation, which had spiritual undertones. She talks about the Sikh tradition in which she was raised, although she turned away from organized religion. She further studied brainwave entrainment and how it works with meditation. She suggests bringing your own faith into your meditation, if that feels right for you. She talks about what beliefs mean and how certain ideas get into our mind. The subconscious beliefs are so powerful, but first she says we must understand where the beliefs originated. She talks about the divided mind that Freud explored which includes the Ego, the Id, and the Superego. She furthers talks about the idea of the 4 Selves and what they mean. Who do we believe we can be? It's not about perfection, it's about our personal successes. We can actualize them. Her training is about being the best you can be. She further looks at psycho-social development, starting as an infant. Each period of our life lets us learn different things. She outlines the stages and shares ways to correct behaviors toward empowerment through various exercises. We can look back at our own childhoods and see where patterns started. Ravinder discusses her research into the Law of Attraction – Ask, Believe, and Receive. She talks about insecurities, self-destructive behaviors, and the importance of choosing, rather than asking. This is Part 1 of the interview. Info: RavinderTaylor.com

Mind Training: Ravinder Taylor We know that exercising regularly will bring numerous benefits, from improved health and wellness to enhanced creativity, but most do not know that training the mind will bring a host of benefits too. One of the best experiences I had in a restaurant was when I sat at a table in Marylebone (London), decorated with floral cloths and comfy pillows. Nestling into my seat I was struck by beautiful spicy notes, warming ginger that mirrored the welcome from the maître d'. Perusing the menu, almost everything was a blend of cultures, cuisines and flavours. Dishes that are so unfamiliar, yet deserve to have a home. This restaurant and cooking style, which is proudly inauthentic, feels deeply authentic and full of love, and you can understand why when you learn about the experience of its founder, Ravinder Bhogal.Ravinder is a journalist, chef and restaurateur, who was born in Kenya to Indian parents. She's a monthly food columnist for the FT Weekend magazine and The Guardian's Feast magazine, a contributing editor at Harper's Bazaar, and regularly writes for The Observer Magazine and Vogue online. Basically one of the most influential women in food.Jikoni is one of my favourite restaurants and now ‘Comfort and Joy' (Ravinders 3rd book) is one of my new favourites too! It's one of those cookbooks to read, but also one that deserves to have its pages stained and spattered. Ravinder's commitment to lavish vegetables with the same joy and creativity you'd bring to a steak or a chop has resulted in a globally-inspired collection of recipes. There are fragrant and fortifying curries and stews including a mango and golden coin curry; hefty salads packed with fistfuls of good things such as heritage tomato salad with lime leaf dressing, ginger and chilli. Basically this is the kind of food I want to eat all the time. I ask Ravinder about how she conjures recipes and why cooking is the ultimate expression of love. I think you'll love this chat.

The wonderful, beautiful and generous chef & restauranteur Ravinder Bhogal brought us some absolutely delicious food when she came round for this weeks episode! As the owner of the fabulous Marylebone restaurant Jikoni, Ravinder's Comfort & Joy delivery boxes got us through the never-ending lockdowns (Sam still says it's his best home cooked meal ever!). She told us all about how she set up the restaurant, growing up in Kenya, how she started her career on Gordon Ramsey's ‘F Word' and that she's known to hang out with Stanley Tucci & cook for Sir Paul McCartney. Ravinder's Falooda cake is one of the most delicious things I've ever tried, potentially my new last supper pudding! All of the delicious treats Ravinder served up are from her brand new cook book ‘Comfort & Joy'. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Food has always been more than just fuel. Beyond mere nourishment, food carries deep meaning in our lives. It evokes feelings of comfort and joy and it can ignite disagreement and discord. It serves as a powerful link to culture and identity, creating a sense of belonging and community. In August 2023 we were joined by restaurateur and author Ravinder Bhogal and award-winning writer and broadcaster Kavita Puri, as they discussed the politics of food in our increasingly globalised world. Exploring the arguments around culinary authenticity, they asked how genuine food needs to be in a multicultural society. Can recipes be subject to cultural appropriation? And what happens when a people lose their cuisine, as has happened to some Palestinian people who have been living on UN food aid for so long they have lost touch with their traditional cuisine? -- We'd love to hear your feedback and what you think we should talk about next, who we should have on and what our future debates should be. Uncomfortable Conversations Podcast The Untold Stories of the 3HO Kundalini Yoga Community
Els Coenen (formerly Ravinder Kaur) lives in Belgium. She was 49 when she took her first Kundalini Yoga class, immediately fell in love with it and became a teacher in 2008. She taught Kundalini Yoga for ten years, gave multiple classes a week, organized workshops and teacher training programs in Belgium and East-Africa and assisted in them. Every year she went to the European Yoga Festival, had a boot at the bazar to collect funds for the seva-based teacher training programs in East-Africa, combining this work with a job in the Telecom sector. She organized a Sat Nam Rasayan training in Belgium. In 2013, two women were sexually abused by an SNR instructor. Because Els insisted that the harm would be recognized, and action would be taken to prevent future abuse, she was excommunicated by Guru Dev Singh master of this healing technique and student of Yogi Bhajan, and Belgium was declared "a no-go-zone" for SNR for two years. From 2010 till 2018 Els presided the Belgian Federation of Kundalini Yoga and represented her country at an international level. Disillusioned by many things she stopped all Kundalini Yoga related activities in 2018. When in 2020 the book Premka triggered many survivors to tell their stories, Els stepped in again, hoping that the time for transparency and clarity had come. She was part of an advisory team of the Compassionate Reconciliation Program but stepped out at the end of 2022 as she experienced it as window dressing. In April 2021 after she read or listened to survivor stories on many different platforms and had watched hours and hours of Uncomfortable Conversations, she contacted GuruNischan to collaborate. She made extracts of the interviews and put them together on a website (abuse-in-kundalini-yoga.com) to allow people with less free time to be informed. Now, she has written a book in partnership with GuruNischan, including voices of survivor stories called Under the Yoga Mat: The Dark History of Yogi Bhajan's Kundalini Yoga. Song Credit: Because of You – by Gustaph The book can be found on the website below for platforms available for purchase in Europe, USA and many other countries throughout Asia as well. www.undertheyogamat.com www.abuse-in-kundalini-yoga.com You can DONATE to this broadcast at: http://www.gurunischan.com/uncomfortableconversations Uncomfortable Conversations Spotify Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2lEfcoaDgbCCmztPZ4XIuN?si=vH-cH7HzRs-qFxzEuogOqg

“Don't take candies from strangers.” How simple a teaching; how elegant. But how difficult for a child to resist a sugary delight; an alpenlibe or melody offered to you for free that to before dinner. Which 6 year old could say no? Had this lesson not been inscribed in our head, we too could've fallen for this scheme. If you now think how stupid some kids might be to fall prey to this modus operandi of kidnapping, keep in mind, you're the same person that once upon a time believed in Santa Claus and tooth fairies.
