Don't take candy from strangers. Did you ever ask your mom or dad, "Why?" Or were you too afraid? Were you already too good at actively imagining what those strangers would do with you once they got you in the van? Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees by Patrick Horvath brushes against that very particular dread, playing with your nostalgia and injecting grotesque horror into your picturesque youth. Sam the Bear appears as the ideal small-town neighbor. She runs the local hardware store. She has a kind word for everyone who walks through her doors. And sometimes, she makes trips to the city where she can slaughter a stranger and bury their parts in the woods. Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees smashes serial killer iconography with an impeccably illustrated children's tale. When people talk about this comic, they will mention Richard Scarry. They will mention Dexter. The comparisons are obvious and accurate, but Horvath creates something far more tantalizing than genre fusion. Brad wrote in his review that the comic would only work if both elements were executed flawlessly. Patrick Horvath melds both worlds masterfully, creating a fantastically looking realm where its fears are tangible and utterly relatable. Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees is easily the most enjoyably upsetting comic you'll read all year. In this week's episode, we chat with Horvath. Our conversation begins with colliding these disparate worlds before exploring our childhood encounters with stranger danger lore. We discuss what Sam the Bear sees in the woods and why it sparks an existential crisis in the reader, and we cover how the comic's final two pages upend everything. Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees #1 hits shops on October 18th from IDW Publishing. It's written and illustrated by Patrick Horvath, lettered by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, and features a variant cover by Riley Rossmo. Continue this conversation with Patrick Horvath by following his Twitter, Instagram, and Website. This episode continues our year-long partnership with Omnibus, the Digital Comic Store and Reader. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Eph 6:12 The gap between seen and unseen, between natural and spirit, is narrowing. Never has the ongoing battle between the kingdom of darkness and the kingdom of light been more apparent. All you have to do is look at the chaos, evil and confusion going on in our world today. Jenny's guest is Minister, Speaker & Author Paul Renfro Founder of Paradigm Lighthouse Ministries. His book, Nobody Sees This Creation: The Origin of the Devil and His Replacements describes the impact of the Creation upon the kingdom of darkness using scripture. Every Christian has to battle lies from darkness. This interview imparts wisdom for withstanding demonic attacks while growing through God's tests. Benny DiChiara is not fragile, yet he understands the fragility of life. He is not lost, but he knows the aimless paths of those who wander. He is not a victim, but he has experienced life-saving salvation from the inside out. His world has been shaken, but his feet are planted firmly on the strongest of foundations. And even as he faced an abyss of the unknown, he never did so alone. In October 2015, the singer, songwriter, businessman, motivational speaker, father, and husband endured a traumatic brain injury (TBI) that placed his life and future in peril. A fall sent him to the emergency room and ICU with a concussion and closed fracture of the skull base with subarachnoid, subdural, and extradural hemorrhage. The catastrophic injury could have easily ended his life or, at the least, compromised the quality of it. "I absolutely remember nothing from the first month after my injury," he shares. "It's just gone. Once I started to come out of it, there were memory gaps, speech issues, and walking issues. Everything looked surreal." Out of that came his Christian music ministry, and his band “Empowered”. Now releasing their latest and 4th album “Yahweh-Nissi” on Slingshot Records, Benny is working on putting together a tour to support his music, his ministry, and an extension of that called “Children's Cup” which we talk about on the show. www.rockin4jesus.com © 2023 Lotta Dogs Productions LLC Showrunner and Executive Producer Emeritus: Tom Sabella Producer and Host (the guy who has a face for podcasting): Bob Bender Management Representation: Chuck Thompson for Thompson Entertainment Group, LLC Co-Producer - Audio/Video Editor (the man behind the curtain): Mark Sabella Director of Video and Continuity (the brains of the entire operation): Deborah Halle Marketing and Social Media (all knowing): Sarah Fleshner for 362 Entertainment All Around Problem Solver (and Mental Health Therapist for us): Connie Ribas Recorded inside what could be an old beat up Airstream Trailer located somewhere on what's left of Music Row in Nashville TN (Man we sure do miss Noshville, and the Longhorn Steakhouse) Mixed and Mastered at Music Dog Studios in Nashville, TN Editing and Post at Midnight Express Studio located in Olian, NY Production Sound Design: Keith Stark Voice Over and Promo: Lisa Fuson Special Thanks to the creator and founder of the podcast, Tom Sabella, along with Traci Snow for producing and hosting over 100 episodes of the original "Business Side of Music" podcast and trusting us to carry on their legacy. Seth Rogen is a comedian, writer, director, and producer whose films have together grossed $2.8 billion at the box office. In comedy since he was 12 years old, it's all he's ever known, and he's one of the biggest comedy forces on the planet. Opening up for the first time on the dementia diagnosis that tore his family apart, as well as the toll that bad reviews can do to the people who make films, Seth is a good guy trying to make his way in an industry that famously rewards bad behaviour. He tells us what that's really like. For many people, Seth provided the narration for their adolescence with iconic, classic movies like Superbad and Pineapple Express - hilariously mining his own fumbles on his journey into adulthood for comic effect. Now, through his weed company Houseplant, he takes people on a journey of a different source as the supplier of one of the most popular sources of legal weed in North America. What nobody sees. The working mind. The planning. The execution. Then the goal to do it again. Nobody sees it. If it breaks, you make the move to keep from walking away. Nobody sees it. Even while looking your eyes. Finding the grind. Knowing what's in store. So we explore. To put the value of creative energy ahead of all things. Nobody sees it. The inner battle with who you are and who you're going to become. It's not always a choice. It's more of a mopping up what a thought can do in a moment of change, challenge and evolution. For the moment. That's all any of us own. This moment. Here we are! Nobody sees it. The struggle to be normal. Because it's not always easy to step onto the path you lead. What nobody sees. Your evolution.

Who are you when no one's looking? What is more important - how you appear to other people? Or how you feel about yourself? Spending time alone in self reflection is an important piece of growing as a human being. Matthew and Kyle are joined this week by editor and collaborator Kid Brian to discuss the importance of working on the side of yourself that no one sees. How do you spend your time when it's only you? Is the message you're projecting to the outside world different from what's going on inside your head? Are you comfortable spending time alone with your thoughts? External validation can be fleeting and hollow. When we figure out how to become intrinsically validated through aligning our actions with our values, we create all the motivation we need to keep living happily from an authentic place. How you appear to others will never quite be the full picture. That's why you are the only judge that really matters. Can you look yourself in the eye, knowing all your deepest truths, and feel good about how you're showing up in the world? If not, what needs to change?

How do I keep going when no one sees what I go through?
In order to prepare us for the next season in our lives, God often calls us to release our grasp on something, someone, or some place. It is in this separation and release, in the time of waiting and in-between, where we learn to depend on God as our provider.

Fun fact: fifty six percent of men reportedly believe sexism is over. What a relief! Our work here is done. In all seriousness, street harassment is so prevalent in Australia that women just accept it as normal. That doesn't mean sexism is over. It means it's endemic. But we can end it. We travel to France and Uganda to investigate efforts to put a stop to everyday sexism. Together we can have a mighty good crack at ending it, once and for all. Are you with us? Tune in to find out how you can make it happen. ExQueeriencePoints an all queer cast of gaymers who want to get together and be our nerdy selves, and share that with you. This, our second episode, takes us back into the fight. Hope none of us die! We had some technical difficulties but I think we have them ironed out for next time.
I'm shocked nobody in the MSM sees what's happening. I guess I shouldn't be. They're normally asleep at the wheel, but for all of you regular listeners of the show, YOU should see what's happening. I have always said North Korea is a rational actor and Kim is not crazy. I've explained that the reason Kim wants nukes is that he wants to be treated as a legitimate power and a world player. Phase 1 was to get a nuke, and a means to deliver it. Phase 2 is all about optics. Letting the world know that they are not savages or tyrants but rather a legitimate world power that deserves respect. He recently met secretly with President Xi of China. The meeting was only announced AFTER it happened and there's lots of footage of Kim and Xi looking diplomatic. Next Kim will meet with the South Koreans followed by a potential meeting with Trump. This is a game. A game I will admit Kim seems to be playing to perfection. I'm actually intrigued to see how much of my theory proves true and how the pieces of this political chess match organize themselves. Jason Support the show.

Listen in on an interview with a very special friend of Frances Drost. Leslie McKee is a guest artist on this episode and you'll get to hear a song from her that was written by Phil Naish and Lowell Alexander. Leslie's new song "What Love Looks Like" is featured on the new project "We Are Creative Soul" (Creative Soul Records) with 15 other artists, including "Nobody Sees" - the song featured on episode # 24 with an interivew of Grammy award-winner Phil Naish. Between the music and the stories, you'll hear some giggles as they reveal some of the quirks of doing music.
In this very special episode, Frances speaks with Grammy award-winning producer, Phil Naish. Phil has produced 7 albums for Steven Curtis Chapman and has also produced Michael Card projects along with other well-known artists. Phil recently produced Frances' new single "Nobody Sees" and you'll get to hear the first version of this song and then you will hear the magic that Phil created from her home-made demo. Phil has also been working on the vocals with Frances for her upcoming Christmas CD project and after days in the studio, they sat back and took some relaxing time to talk about what it's like to do music full time. You'll even catch some advice if you are interested in doing music full time or know someone who is. www.philnaish.com
