Thanks to iFanboy Patrons, it's Talksplode time. Rick Remender, writer, artist, TV showrunner, teacher, story factory, father, punk rock skateboard kid, old man, and a long time friend of this podcast returns to Talksplode for a record seventh appearance over a fifteen year span. But not one of those chats was Rick and Josh alone, and they get into it. Where does this creative drive come from? Did comics almost lose him? How did he know to stay on this uncharted path of self determined comic book and story creation? Will we be able to come back and talk about The Scumbag a lot more? With his imprint, Giant Generator set to release a new spate of varied stories, like The Sacrificers and The Holy Roller, Rick gives his first long form interview in 3 years, and we're very happy with it. Join Sis and Big Pops for a fun, fun talk about one of the things we love most—Nerd Stuff. We discuss out fav bits of nerd news over the past couple of weeks: so much media has been halted due to the strike, but A24 is back in production; we talk Five Nights at Freddys, Deadpool 3 having Cassandra Nova in it, Vanessa Kirby being cast as Sue Storm, and Lin Manuel Miranda starting a new musical of the movie Warriors, which Sis learns is nothing like West Side Story. There was also a fair bit of comic and gaming news this time – Post Malone bought a Magic Card for 2.6 million dollars and some interesting stuff about Hulk Hogan. For bingeing, Big Pops watched the Star Trek: Strange New World musical episode quite a few times and he finished Secret Invasion, which was not his favorite. Sis has been listening to a lot of audio books, like As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of the Princess Bride and Living with Less, she also watched her husband play Ori and the Blind Forest, as well as rewatching Gravity Falls. Then, Pops shares his pull list! This week he introduces us to The Adventures of Superman: John Kent Issue 6 by DC; Doctor Strange Issue 6 by Marvel; as well as Firepower Issue 25 by Image. His new number 1 is The Sacrificers by Image. With his Book of the Week being DC Black Label oversize comic Superman: The Last Days of Lex Luthor. This week we reviewed the movie Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper. We also reviewed the DC comic Nightwing: Leaping into the Light, the trade is available for free with Amazon Prime. This episode was originally recorded on 08/08/23. Check us out on twitter @sisandbpops
Is this the most MURDEROUS episode of THN yet?! This week’s comics are full of MURDER, MAYHEM, and a little dash of ROMANCE! Time travel murder! Alien ritual (maybe) murder! Mutant ninja murder! Hello and welcome back to the Yancy St Podcast! We're happy to have you. Podcast notes: http://sensationalshegeek.weebly.com/full-archive/ep102-the-devil-and-baphomet-explained-animeanimation-and-unionization-forced-musical-episodes-and-more I got a little excited about the TAROT Card of the Week this week, which is #15: The Devil 00:02:59. It actually takes up most of the episode, so I'll give each section it's own timestamp: Description/Symbolism @ 00:15:56. Interpretation/Meaning @ 00:25:50. Pop Culture @ 00:28:36. Summary @ 00:37:00. I know it seems like a lot but we've got a ton in here: historical explanation for Baphomet, Marvel, Anime, DC and Justice League character correspondences, Devil designs through history and the historical evolution of how we got there, and more. Here's the link to my Satana podcast special: https://sensationalshegeek.weebly.com/full-archive/satana-hellstrom-the-devils-daughter-satanic-panic-seduction-of-the-innocent-the-comics-code-full-character-history The weekly COMIC BOOKS Lo-Down on Recent Reads/Events 00:39:39 includes DC's Knight Terrors and Marvel's Fall of X, plus The Sacrificers #1, Amazing Spider-Man Annual, and more. Adam joins the chat for the TV/Movies/Anime segment 00:49:41, where we talk animation and unionization--while we see most of Hollywood put on pause for the SAG-AFTRA strikes, when will voice actors and animators get their own justice? We finish with the shows, currently Harley Quinn S04E04 56;28 (The First Person to Come Back From a Business Conference Without Chlamydia), and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds S02E09 (Subspace Rhapsody). And boy, that musical episode was certainly....certainly something.
