A very cool piece on the topic of Magick and mind. Exactly why we are here! I was lucky enough to sift through r/occult to come across this boon of a perspective. The author has wished for anonymity and I will honor it. The body of the post will be in the show notes below. Thank you for your written word and your wonderful point of view. This particular piece drew me in partially due to the engagement with Neville Goddard, Joseph Murphy and all same/similar information and experiences circling around these topics. Within the author breaks down quite well an overview of why magick always works and the implications of it. we find that: -magick is real -Magick always works -The all is mind and more! A laser focused beam of thought to ignite a fire within so we may cook a feast of a life throughout. Thanks for the light. -------- Body of the post Below: my "Infinite Gradient" Magick Model - why magick *technically* always works. This is gonna be long. buckle in. So let me first address the big thing: yes, literal magick is real. yes, things like sigils can make it so that you can find money on the ground. I've accomplished intents like finding fast money, and the next day i found both a $50 bill AND a $20 on the ground in the same evening. Literally in the most unlikely of ways, it was crazy. So this tells me, anybody who tells you that magick is "purely psychological"(meaning it doesnt affect anything outside of your apparent body) is either weak-willed, ignorant, misguided, or trying to suppress your abilities for whatever reason. Straight up. Remember that reddit is an open forum, so all KINDS of people with no standard training can just waltz in here anytime and say anything they want, on top of the fact that they filter their opinions with strong biases. If I would've listened to all the close-minded fools, I would've never learned what I learned. I had to become confident in my own ability & had to learn to not give a fuck about anybody else if i wanted to experience the truth for myself. The only person who can confirm all this is you, and its through your power alone that you find the Truth in yourself. Why do you think so many powerful spiritual figures in history went through a "hermit" stage where they isolated themselves from everybody & went off to mediate in a cave for years? because the nature of the real Truth is hidden IN you. Yes, conceptual frameworks can help guide you, but the REAL truth? its unspoken. its not something that can be "figured out" intellectually with other ignorant people. Eventually, once you reach a certain point, you have to not give a fuck what Aleister Crowley, Peter Carroll, Don M. Kraig, or even what S. Buddha said, and realize the taste of the truth experientially for yourself, to the point that its unmistakable what it is. but you have to genuinely be open-minded to discovering it. Tilopa, one of the master founders of Mahamudra Buddhism, and a powerful mahasiddha, gave his Six Precepts of Advice for starting your path to finding the truth: Don't recall. Let go of what has passed [mi mno] Don't imagine. Let go of what may come [mi bsam] Don't think. Let go of what is happening now [mi sems] Don't examine. Don't try to figure anything out [mi dpyod] Don't control. Don't try to make anything happen [mi sgom] Rest. Relax, right now, and rest [rang sar bzhag] When you genuinely let go of all the ignorant conditioning thats been hammered into you, the Truth starts to appear and you can see the nature of reality for what it REALLY is. Now, here's the thing about magick: I've noticed many people tend to ask whether their spell "worked" or "not." this implies a duality. and it also implies a misunderstanding of magick and the nature of experience. The truth is, all is mind. This is how magick is possible in the first place. All you have is mind and all youll ever have is your mind. For all eternity. thats the only way youll ever experience anything; is you experience it IN your mind. The true you isnt a "body"; the true you is an unborn "mind-being", made of awareness. But because the nature of mind isnt obvious to itself, your true-self (mind) has ignorantly mistaken itself for its mental formations that appear in its scope (think of what happens when you fall into a fluid "dream" every night; your mind ignorantly mistakes mental formations to be "true" all the time & conditions itself into self-fulfilling prophecies. it ends up thinking its the body that appears infront of it because it conditions itself to believe its a singular self in relation to its other mental appearances that SEEM separate from it. but theyre all just one big mental projection. including the body. no matter how dense and vivid they may seem, its all still illusion. there's nothing that says an illusion cant have structure and density to it. You just gotta see thru it.) Now, why is this important? because everything you experience is literally a mind state. Any emotion, mode of perception, any action you take, is a mind state. This includes the act of a "spell" happening within your mind's scope. When you intend a spell, youre not "reaching out" and using some kind of external "energy". its you, as a mind-being, changing your experiential state to appear as if your spell is true. Now what do we know about mind-states? Theyre not "on-and-off" things if you really examine them. Take the state of being angry: when youre angry, you dont just switch from "not-angry" to "angry". Becoming more angry is like a "rising;" you can feel your bodyheat rising by degrees when you get more angry. its gradual. And when you try to calm down, you notice it takes time. SLOWLY, you calm down. And THIS is the keyword: "degrees". any state of being is in DEGREE--a measurement along a gradient. and this includes your "spell-state". the state of your spell is measured in degrees of its vividness. its up to you to determine whether its satisfactory or not. Now lets say youre someone with a relatively weak-will: this basically means your magickal intentions are clouded by your other "mind-stuff" that you let get out of control: self-doubt, self-deprecation, your beliefs about the world, etc. These things become persistent patterns that become hard to uproot. all these thoughtforms play a part in how your spell turns out, and how you experience life (& this is the unfortunate part that many people struggle with: all the "bad things" that happened are a result of your mind; like nightmares. you didnt necessarily "intend" for them to happen, they were simply the side-effects of ignorance & unconscious habit. its unfortunate, but reality can be ugly. but taking responsibility for this is what transformed my life. i promise im not saying this out of spite). Why do you think meditation is always recommended? because so many's people's minds are clouded with contradictory, harmful intents. But this is what many dont realize: if magick is a result of mind, and mind is always working, then this means magick is always working. When you get up from your altar & your meditation mat, your mind is still holding beliefs about the world. so yes, you may have very well reached some degree of gnosis during a ritual, but after you got through with your ritual, and you essentially fell back to your old ways of thinking, you ended up with a shitty magick result. this is why people may intend to find a $10 bill, but because the intensity of the "its hard for me to get money"-thoughtform is stronger than the "i find $10 bills"-thoughtform, then your spell-state becomes less intense , and you end up with a weak result : like seeing a $10 bill on an instagram post or something like that. Its also why many people dont instantly "get rich" from magick, even if theyve successfully casted spells before. they may still have some degree of disbelief that they could achieve ALOT of wealth. Their current conditioning may only allow them to have "decent" wealth, not alot. There are degrees to wealth, and there are degrees to cherophobia. So technically, your spell worked, HOWEVER, subjectively, you didnt find this result satisfactory. so you decide to say "it didnt work". but technically, it did work, but the DEGREE of your intent was too weak to be satisfactory for YOU personally. So what is needed to change this? Contemplation. The old-fashioned "hard work" aspect of becoming a successful occultist. You have to do hard self-reflective work to uproot self-defeating thoughtforms. gradually, overtime, softening them, bit by bit, until they become so weak that your spell-states are more intense than them, and you essentially become someone who doesnt even need to do a whole ritual; you just make magick happen like its nothing. it becomes part of who you are. This means going to therapy; maybe seeing a psychiatrist; taking your meds; forcing yourself to change bad habits; cleaning your room; taking time to exercise and eating a healthier diet, etc. Get out more often and actually talk to people (with a mask on now), and stop trying to summon succubeses and incubeses like a dumbass. Force yourself to develop healthier relationships. Study people who overcame the odds & became successful. Contemplate on the nature of reality & stop seeing yourself as a mere "lump of flesh". Seriously reflect on these things. Gain insight about your psychology. Change who you are. THEN you can get real serious with the more "obvious" occult practices. because if you dont work to improve yourself, youre wasting your time, and could potentially hurt yourself. If you want to jump start this, TRUST ME: Shrooms are one of THEEEE best ways to jumpstart this. theyve been scientifically proven to change your brain in ways that reduces self-defeating habits. see the r/shrooms subreddit for more info. this may seem "mundane", but if all is mind, then there is no true separation of things; the "mundane" is actually "spiritual" and the "spiritual" is actually "mundane". thats why i've stopped using the words "spiritual" vs "physical". all appearances are simply phenomenological formations of "something", with different degrees of vividness & intensity. But once again, my words are simply a conceptual framework. if you dont agree.. oh well. but if they resonated with you, then simply use these words as tools to guide you to the REAL truth: the Truth beyond words. the Infinite Gradient of experience. Its already in you. ------- Thanks again for allowing me to bring voice to your wonderful words. and hey, Thanks for hangin.

Ecclesiastes 11:2 says, Give a portion to seven, or even to eight, for you know not what disaster may happen on earth.Thats the principle of diversification and we feel you should always invest that way.But is there an exception to the rule? Rob West and Steve Moore talk about it. And no, there is no except even though a lot of people think there is.So what stock could have that much hold over people? Its their employers stock. Companies make it really easy for their workers to buy it. Plus, it probably feels good to invest where you work. Unfortunately, 20 years ago, accounting scandals at WorldCom and Enron resulted in the collapse of their stock. Their employees lost billions in retirement savings. It happened again in 2008 at Lehman Brothers and again in 2015 at Radio Shack. Fortunatley, those horror stories have gotten peoples attention. Today, Vanguardreportsthat only 10% of all investors in their defined contribution plans own any company stock at all. The bad news is that half of those, or about 5% of Vanguards investors, still have more than 20% of their portfolios in company stocks. Thats exposing them to too much risk if something happens to their company. Its not a problem to invest where you work, but its theamountof ownership thats the problem. Consider this: youre already heavily invested in your company even if you dont own a single share of its stock. If something happens to the company, your paycheck and benefits could be lost. Do you really want to put a big piece of your retirement savings at risk as well? Many people feel it must be safe to invest in company stock because they see the top executives doing it. Remember, though, those execs could also be investing much more outside the company so they could absorb a hit on company stock values more easily.Secondly, researchshows that top executives routinely unload their stock incentives over time. In fact, they tend to sell company stock at twice the rate they buy it. So the bottom line is theres never an exception to the diversification rule just like theres never an exception to the wisdom of Gods Word. Next, Rob and Steve answer listener questions at 800-525-7000 or by email at Questions@MoneyWise.org including the following: Earlier this year at the start of the COVID-19 crisis, a caller moved a third of his investments over to bonds under the recommendation of a financial advisor. However, theyve lost value and dont seem to be coming back.Did he make a mistake?Should he re-allocate? Self-employed husband has had no work this year due to a work-related accident and, therefore, has had very little income.Theyre wondering if they should take distribution from one of their investment accounts and, perhaps, in the process, reinvest those withdrawals into a Roth IRA. Caller put some money into a Roth IRA through his insurance company.Hes wondering if the company Black Rock is any good.(Rob doesnt endorse any particular financial companies, but was able to give the caller some basic information about the company, then help him decide if it might be a good fit for his investments.Rob also mentioned the webiste InspireInsight.com to help the caller screen his investments to see how company profits are being used.) Caller is considering transfering some money in an IRA to an annuity and wants to know why Rob is not a fan or annuities.(The short answer is that Rob does not usually recommend annuities because they tend to be both complex and expensive and he feels your money can do better elsewhere. He also says its not a one-size-fits-all answer.) So it must be frustrating for naysayers when research actually confirms Gods Word. Its happening again, this time in the case of gratitude. Its true, researchers now say that gratitude is good for you. Theyre even calling it a performance enhancing substance. Who knew? Kingdom Advisors President Rob West has the details for you. Today on MoneyWise, Kingdom Advisors president Rob West has what you need to know. The Bible has many verses to inspire a thankful heart, but one in particular that details the benefits of gratitude is found in Philippians 4, verses 6 and 7. Researchers at the University of California-Davis and UC-Berkely are confirming that the spirit of gratitude has wonderful effects on our mind and body. Staying on a budget, living on less than you earn, saving for the future all lead to financial well-being. In todays show we also answer your questions: What is your opinion on life insurance? In episode 180 of the Man of Screen podcast, Mike Zummo presents his penultimate episode covering season 2 of the Salkind-produced televisions series. First, were going to have a possession story. This couple split up in the 1960s. Theyre from down under. One was reduced to a shell and the other was not. Then of course, what happens when Lana picks up the shell? She is possessed by the jilted lovers spirit and she is sent on a quest for “Revenge from the Deep”. And then everyones favorite obnoxious toymaker makes his return. There will be screeching. There will be airheadedness. There will be clips from earlier episodes this season. We will even get a platitude. We will learn the “Secrets of Superboy”. Next time: We finish off Season 2 with perhaps one of the longest episode titles this side of Lois & Clarks fourth season with “Johnny Casanova and the Case of the Secret Serum” and the “The Woman Called Tiger Eye”.Feedback for this show can be sent to: manofscreen@gmail.comCheck out the homepage for the show. One of our listeners asked a follow-up question to Ep. 101 on marriage, via ask.fm: "I listened to your conviction project podcast on marriage - could you touch upon how to select your partner + the rishta process? Should we simply select someone because theyre pious even if we arent attracted to them? How should we be feeling in this stage or the process? Should there be butterflies in our stomach when we see them for the second time (with their family)? & if we dont feel those types of feelings, does that mean that person isnt for us? Theyre a good person but just not a match for us?" In this episode, Shahrukh and I discuss these questions at length. One of the books we discussed is "My Mariam". Its translation can be found here: https://www.alhakam.org/my-maryam/
To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/1085/29 When youre buying a car, you probably look at everything in your price range. Having a wide selection is usually a blessing, but it can be confusing when youre buying term life insurance. There are several ways to buy term insurance that protects your loved ones and the Internet has added another layer of complexity. Today, financial planner and teacher Rob West walks us through the selection process. Then its your calls at 800-525-7000. We almost always tell people to choose term over whole life policies, but now we want to share the different ways you can do that. One way isbuying directly from a company. This is for folks who like to deal with an older, established insurer and most of the big name insurance companies would fit into this category. Many of these companies have been around for more than a century and have great stability. When you buy through them youll probably have to deal with an agent on the phone wholl take you through the process. Another way would be to use a comparison site. This would be for folks who want to price shop in a hurry. You can also buy a policy through a new company or brand thats associated with one of the bigger, legacy insurance companies. Theyre for folks who dont want the hassle of talking to an agent and would rather apply for a policy online. The last way isgreat for people who want life insurance without having a medical exam. Its called Simplified Term or Instant Issue. Several smaller companies specialize in this type of policy, but several of the larger, legacy insurers offer at least one simplified term policy. These are great for people with pre-existing conditions who want access to life insurance. You need life insurance if someone else, usually a spouse or children, need your income. Its intended to replace lost income should something happen to you. If you dont have any dependents, you dont need life insurance. Here are some questions we answered from our callers on todays program: My wife and I are getting married in April. Should we buy a condo with savings, or rent for a while and save some more? I have 15K in debt, 80K left on my mortgage. Should I take money out of retirement to pay off debt? My wife and I are debt free. We have chosen to not have homeowners insurance. Is this wise? I am about to receive a settlement. Should we pay off our home or invest? Ask your questions at (800) 525-7000 or email them atquestions@moneywise.org. The fruit of the Spirit is GOODNESS. Goodness is one of the fruits of the Spirit that doesnt get a lot of love or attention. Its touch on a primal internal level theyre not just competent, theyre generous. Theyre generous in that they go above and beyond the black and white job description.
To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/1085/29 If you had to name one utility where youre probably getting gouged every month, would you say your electric bill? Water? Cable TV? Those are all good candidates, but more likely its your cell phone bill. Americans spend an average of $100 a month for cell phone service, a utility that barely existed a generation ago. Today, financial planner and teacher Rob West shares some cost saving ideas. No doubt, the quickest and easiest way to save money on your cell phone bill is to switch carriers. What many people dont realize is that the big three carriers, Verizon, ATT, and T-Mobile, each own discount services that use the same towers and have the same coverage areas. Verizon has Visible, ATT owns Cricket Wireless, and T-Mobile has Metro by T-Mobile. So those would be places to start your search for a lower cost carrier. What if I dont want to take a chance that the coverage area wont be the same if I switch to one of those discount providers? Then you should explore other plans with your current provider. If youre paying for unlimited data, check your usage, which you should be able to do by logging into your providers website. You may find that you dont need that much data and you can switch to a lower cost plan. Its far too easy to go along with whatever cell phone upgrade your current carrier is providing. Instead, think used. You dont need to have the latest iteration of your phone. Look for a used model on eBay or another online seller. The trick is to wait a few weeks after a new model comes out. Then youll probably find a lot of the older model for sale. Just be sure to get one with a warranty. Get on a family plan if you havent already. You may be able to lower your cost to $25 a month per line, especially if you go with one of the discount carriers. But be especially careful with how much data you use each month. Youll want to choose a family plan with enough data so you dont get hit with extra charges. Most plans offer a discount of around $5 a month just for signing up for auto-pay. But word of caution: make sure you have the deduction taken from a credit card, not out of your checking account. That way, if theres a problem (like double billing), you can dispute the overcharge more easily. Many carriers offer special discounts. Sometimes they have special rates for the military, teachers, and seniors, for example. They may also offer special deals through your employer. Smartphones are expensive, so most people buy a case to protect their investment. But because its so convenient, buyers usually get the one provided by their carrier. However, they can be expensive, sometimes up to $50! Look around on eBay or Amazon for cheaper phone cases. Theyre out there. For discount cell phone service, check outvisible.com,cricketwireless.com, andmetrobyt-mobile.com. Here are some questions we answered from our callers on todays program: For our 2-year-old home purchase, should we refinance to a lower interest rate in case my husband dies? We want to sell an investment property and would like to avoid paying capital gains. Can we reinvest the proceeds from this sale? What do you think about adding an extra room to a home? What are the pros and cons of a 1099 over a 1040? This is regarding me thinking about starting my own business. Ask your questions at (800) 525-7000 or email them atquestions@moneywise.org. The headline read as follows: Pope Backs Civil Unions for Gay Couples. While Pope Francis remarks chronicled in the article are not considered official papal teaching, they are problematic. He said, Homosexuals have a right to be a part of the family. Theyre children of God and have a right to a family. Nobody should be thrown out, or be made miserable because of it. And as the pope famously said elsewhere, Who am I to judge? This is the head of the largest body of Christians in the entire worldIf he cant judge such matters rightly, who can? While the Bible makes plain that Christians are never to judge self-righteously or hypocritically, they are most certainly called to judge. And what that means with respect to same-sex sexuality and its various permutations, is the call to reject that which God clearly rejects.
Do you know these two seniors? Listen to them talk about their favorite music artists, ideas about staying connected with peers, and a call to action for getting involved in our communities. Theyre also pretty funny people, so sit back, enjoy, and laugh a little!

Or are they aliens. Maybe not. Theyre from somewhere or someone else. Theyve got a ship that may be a time machine. The one thing it isnt is as sickly sounding as another time travelers ship. Well, they need something because of course they do. And theyre going to have Superboy get it for them. Or theyre going to do something awful to someone Superboy cares about. Sound familiar? Of course it does. But who is this woman? Is she human? Or is she a “Mutant”? And then were going home. Yes, to Smallville where Jonathan Kent is going to find himself stalked by an old army buddy. Weve seen Jonathan Kent fight with his fists so far in this show, but does he fight also with his mouth and his mind? The boys are also jacked for the Coyotes Predators bout! Taylor Hall and Clayton Keller are squaring off Duchene and Josi in the qualifying round! Big J brings it back to the east and they jump in to the Toronto Columbus series. Silky is fired up to see Mathews and Marner put points up but Theyre going to have to get past the jackets forecheck first. Shaping up to be a lamp lighter series. You know Silky and Big J didn’t forget about the boys in RED. They go in-depth about the Russian five being locked in and ready to bring the cup home! Big J breaks down some good notes about the caps and current stats! He also catches us up with who the caps brought up for practice and potentially the play off run. They tread lightly on Wayfair being exposed for human trafficking.
Stevie adopted a tiny puppy named Boyfriend! Dave's fostering a tiny puppy that he can't stop calling Chicken! Also, both of them are furious that no one in California will wear a mask. Theyre both popping off a little more than normal this week, but you would be too if you'd been slowly losing your mind stuck inside on a weekend meant to celebrate this country that we're too dumb to protect from total collapse! Come for the puppy talk, stay for the righteous indignation toward people's reckless endangerment of their fellow man! Oh, and Stevie downloaded Hinge again, so watch this space for updates. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for July 3, 2020 is: stentorian sten-TOR-ee-un adjective : extremely loud Examples: "'Let it Be' … was uncannily similar to 'Bridge Over Troubled Water,' not only in sentiment, but even to its churchy flavor. 'They're both very gospely songs,' [David] Wills says. 'I think 1968 was a very turbulent year … and in 1969 there was this life-affirming achievement of going to the moon. So I think that was in the zeitgeist, those stentorian, stately gospel piano-based songs.'" — Jim Beckerman, NorthJersey.com, 14 May 2020 "'Laughing together is as close as you can get without touching,' I wrote in my first book…. Laughter has always been the best medicine; I wasn't exactly making any boldly original statement almost three decades ago. I wasn't expecting a MacArthur grant. But what I expected even less … was that the not-touching part of my line would eventually be part of a stentorian, global prescription to combat COVID-19." — Gina Barreca, The Bedford (Pennsylvania) Gazette, 23 Mar 2020 Did you know? The Greek herald Stentor was known for having a voice that came through loud and clear. In fact, in the Iliad, Homer described Stentor as a man whose voice was as loud as that of fifty men together. Stentor's powerful voice made him a natural choice for delivering announcements and proclamations to the assembled Greek army during the Trojan War, and it also made his name a byword for any person with a loud, strong voice. Both the noun stentor and the related adjective stentorian pay homage to the big-voiced warrior, and both have been making noise in English since the early 17th century.

But what if that money isnt so free? Theyre seldom talked about, but 401(k) matching contributions do come with strings attached. Today on MoneyWise, financial planner and teacher Rob West goes over this for us. I still think its the best policy for most people, most of the time, to max out 401(k) contributions. But today were looking at a different point of view. The idea is that some investors might be better off by delaying 401(k) contributions in favor of making the maximum contribution to a Roth IRA. Vesting. You may not realize it, but when you start making contributions into a company 401(k), the company often doesnt begin matching those contributions right away. In fact, for your first year, your employer may make zero contributions. This is to protect the company from losing money in case you suddenly find a better job somewhere else. QDIA or Qualified Default Investment Alternative. Thats what happens if you sign up to have money deposited in your 401(k) but you dont designate it to go into a specific fund or funds. In that case, the money goes into a QDIA. This means that the 401(k) plan is making the decision for you and that may not always be in your best interest. Contributing enough to your 401(k) to get your employer match is still the best option for most people, especially those whod rather not be watching their portfolios all the time. Yes, there are definite advantages to a Roth IRA over a 401(k), such as tax free growth and withdrawal in retirement and many more investing options, and quite probably lower maintenance fees. But to take advantage of them youll need to give up employer matching and take a more active interest in your investments. Refer to the Forbesarticleon401(k)matching (https://www.forbes.com/sites/jrose/2020/05/13/dave-ramsey-might-think-im-crazy-but-heres-why-you-should-skip-your-401k-match/amp/). On todays program we also answer your questions: Im 29 years old and am a first-time home buyer. I want to play it safe and go as affordable as possible (under $200,000). What do you think about manufactured homes with land? What do you think of tithing, and does it matter if its on the gross or the net? I have close to $80,000 in savings and investments. Im 83 years old. My daughter wants to buy a house and Id co-sign with her to help her out. Itd also be a place where I can live, too. I wouldnt necessarily be helping her each month, but could. I do get Social Security. What do you think about this? Ask your questions at (800) 525-7000 or email them atquestions@moneywise.org. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/1085/29 Health savings accounts can be a great way to save on medical expenses and reduce your tax liability. Money goes in tax deferred and its there when the doctor bill arrives. But is the HSA a good deal for everyone? To even qualify for an HSA you must have a high-deductible health plan. And even then it may not be the best move. Financial planner and teacher Rob West tells us wholl get the most out of a Health Savings Account. We really like HSAs if you can qualify for them. Theyre a great way to accumulate tax-deferred savings for medical expenses. Many financial advisers say theyre as good or better than some retirement plans. At age 65, the penalty for using the money for non-medical reasons goes away but money used formedical bills is still tax deferred. So theyre a real win-win. There are folks who dont need to tap into these funds right away on short-term health care. That allows them to stockpile the cash for retirement. Its such a good deal that some advisors will actually tell you to pay medical bills out of pocket so you can just let the money in your HSA keep earning for retirement. Theres also a group of people (the majority of people) who have health savings accounts who have to tap into the account to meet their medical expenses. In fact, 55% of HSA owners exhaust their total balance every year. Its still good for them because theyre able to take advantage of the tax savings. The last group eligible for a health savings account maybe shouldnt have one since they have a high-deductible health plan to begin with. Those plans mean youll be paying $1,350 for an individual or $2,700 for a family in medical expenses before the plan kicks in. And even then, youre still paying 10 to 40% of covered services. If youre meeting these deductibles and are still paying a lot out of pocket every year (or know that youre going to meet them in the next few years), a health savings plan is like using a bandaid when you need a tourniquet. On todays program we also answer your questions: What do you think about a pulling money from our stocks for home improvements? I dont have much knowledge about investing. Where would you recommend that I start? I have a 401(k) from a previous employer. With my new job, should I transfer this to them or should I cash it out? I have $80,000 in student loan debt. I shouldnt have gotten this expensive degree to begin with as its not paying for itself. However, I want to get a house. What should I do? To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/1085/29 The COVID-19 crisis spurred major policy decisions to prop up the economy in general and the financial industry in particular. One result is that mortgage interest rates remain low. So is it time to refinance?Rate cuts and pledges to buy billions of dollars worth of mortgage-backed securities by the Federal Reserve are now baked into the system. What does that mean for refinancing? Host Rob West talks with mortgage expert Dale Vermillion to find out. If youre sitting in a FICO thats less than 660, qualifying to refinance may be a challenge for you, and the same if youre looking for a jumbo product today. Income verificationwhat if youre self-employed? Theyre going to take a harder look at that. For the salaried wage earner, the biggest thing is that youre going to have to verify the day of that closing youre still employed due to the unemployment numbers since the effect of COVID-19. Anybody whose interest rates are over 4% has a refinance potential because theres a really good chance you can lower that rate and hopefully for a shortened term. Property values have gone up for almost 9 years nowa record run! If you refinance, there are opportunities for you to position yourself to maybe outrun the private mortgage insurance you had on your house and to get rid of it. Refinancing enables you to replenish lost cash and to build up reserve for your family. Banks cant turn you down because they may think youll lose your job! Finally, remember: God is in control of all things. Also, now is a prime opportunity to share our faith with people. Folk are worried nowtell others in Whom our hope lies. On todays program we also answer your questions: Whats the difference between a traditional 401(k) and a 401(k) Roth? This is how we chill from episode 93 til... Dos Monos are Botsu, Zo Zhit, and Taitan Man. Theyre a Tokyo based hip-hop trio making some of the most interesting music today. Often described as experimental, avant garde, and deconstructionist, their debut album, Dos City, is one of 2019s best projects. It dropped earlier this year on Deathbomb Arc, alongside releases from Death Grips, Clipping, and Jpeg Mafia. @Dos-Monos are gaining a huge foreign following, which is typically very difficult for Japanese rap artists. What's even more wild is that Dos City is the first music they ever made. The first track they made together is on the project. The legendary Meiso, joins us as cohost and we find to find out their origin story, where the inspiration comes from, their musical tastes, their approach to making music, translating the lyrics into English, and a bunch of other suchness. They also share a new unreleased track that should be dropping sometime later this year. Shout out to Dos Monos! Shout out to Meiso! How HOW is a better word than WHY Rather than ask “WHY is a job being done”; ask “HOW is a job being done” and see what kind of results you get. –Colin Nottage In today's episode, Colin puts it to you that repeatedly asking is not always the best solution. He even likens it to how toddlers berate their parents, and you can imagine the outcome of that scenario not achieving a helpful or informative response! Colin has been trying to flip it around and, instead, asking 'How?' in place of 'Why?' KEY TAKEAWAYS For years colin has been a taught and practiced the 5 ‘whys'. But what is the 5 ‘Whys'? 5 Whys is an iterative interrogative technique used to explore the cause-and-effect relationships underlying a particular problem. The primary goal of the technique is to determine the root cause of a defect or problem by repeating the question "Why?". Each answer forms the basis of the next question. The end goal is to define a root cause analysis of an event, problem or outcome. At its base, asking ‘How' in place of ‘Why' is less confrontational. Why is perhaps too focused. How gives a bigger picture. ‘Why' is pointing finger, assigning blame and accusatory. ‘How' is letting them express and explain. It opens the discussion with less guilt as they are no longer defending themselves, rather they are openly responding and without the assumption of blame or guilt. Colin hopes this will start to get you thinking more about the processes and the way the business is working; Finding out route causes but not the individual roots but the company and system based roots. Why often takes you to the shortcut… Theyre called shortcuts as they bring efficiency to the business If you ask how the job was done, what you're starting to do is get deep, deep into the ethos of the job and its completion. In her new book "", my guest on today's podcast, Vani Hari (AKA "The Food Babe") exposes the lies we've been told about our food--and takes readers on a journey to find healthy options. There's so much confusion about what to eat. Are you jumping from diet to diet and nothing seems to work? Are you sick of seeing contradictory health advice from experts? Just like the tobacco industry lied to us about the dangers of cigarettes, the same untruths, cover-ups, and deceptive practices are occurring in the food industry. Vani blows the lid off the lies we've been fed about the food we eat--lies about its nutrient value, effects on our health, label information, and even the very science we base our food choices on. In the book, she discusses: -How nutrition research is manipulated by food company funded experts... - How to spot fake news generated by Big Food... -The tricks food companies use to make their food addictive... -Why labels like "all natural" and "non-GMO" aren't what they seem and how to identify the healthiest food... -Food marketing hoaxes that persuade us into buying junk food disguised as health food... Vani Hari started in April 2011 to spread information about what is really in the American food supply. She teaches people how to make the right purchasing decisions at the grocery store, how to live an organic lifestyle, and how to travel healthfully around the world. The success in her writing and investigative work can be seen in the way food companies react to her uncanny ability to find and expose the truth. Impassioned by knowing how food affects health, Vani loves sharing her message on the blogosphere to 3 million unique readers across the globe. Vani convinced the biggest fast food chain in the world, Subway, to remove a controversial ingredient after receiving 50,000 signatures in 24 hours on her petition to the chain. After receiving tremendous attention on her posts about Chick-Fil-A, she was invited by the company's leadership to meet at its headquarters to consult on specific improvements to ingredients used by the national chain, which they later implemented. 7 months after Vani petitioned Kraft to remove harmful petroleum-based artificial food dyes from Mac & Cheese, Kraft responded by removing the dye from all products aimed at children. Other major food companies that have responded to her writings include Panera Bread, Whole Foods, Lean Cuisine, McDonalds, General Mills, Taco Bell, Starbucks, Coca-Cola, Chipotle, Yoforia, and Moe's South West Grill. Vani's activism brought national attention at the Democratic National Convention when she used her status as an elected delegate to protest in front of the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture on the issue of GMO labeling. Vani has been profiled in the New York Times, USA Today, Washington Times, Chicago Tribune, appeared on The Dr. Oz Show, Good Morning America, The Doctors Show, NBC News, Fox News and is a regular cooking contributor on NBC's Charlotte Today and food expert on CNN. During our discussion, you'll discover: -Inorganic phosphates (Pi), and their effects on physical performance...8:20 Here are the two studies Ben mentions: Pi is used by the food industry to give processed foods a certain texture, add shelf life, etc. Adults with high Pi levels have a higher mortality rate: affects kidneys and other organs Study at Univ. of Texas: Pi lowered performance, Changed gene expression Higher level of Pi, the lower the physical activity Sodium phosphate is the most common ingredient used as a preservative -Insights into Vani's investigations into why foods are manufactured so differently in Europe vs. the U.S....12:15 Vani became aware of this when she noticed the ingredients in Kraft mac and cheese was very different in Europe than in the U.S. Started a petition to get Kraft to remove artificial food dyes in the U.S. U.K. requires warning label: "may cause adverse effects on activity and attention in children" Kraft decided to use natural ingredients rather than put on the warning label Chose to not do the same in the U.S. because the FDA doesn't require a warning label; it's simply cheaper. Natural ingredients look and taste the same as yellow #5 and #6 Every major American company does this Pepsi serves American version of its products with artificial preservatives; and one with plain sugar, beta kerotene, etc. in Europe It comes down to money: synthetic ingredients are cheaper French fries are vastly different in U.K. from the U.S. These chemicals go into many things, not just food The dangers of artificial flavors: FDA was recently sued by several non-profits because 7 ingredients were allowed to be used, that are linked to cancer in animal studies FDA banned the chemicals due to the lawsuit Found everywhere in candy They have 2 years to remove the chemicals FDA didn't require companies to tell the public which ingredients are the cancer causing ones Quaker Oats is allowed to write "strawberry" on the label and not actually add strawberries to the product Ketchup: [34:20] Heinz Ketchup U.K. gets just sugar and tomatoes, vinegar and spices U.S. gets GMO's and artificial preservatives We get exposed to genetically engineered corn that's been developed to withstand carcinogens -To what extent is the FDA involved in regulating the foods we buy at the grocery store, airport delis, etc...40:45 Common phrase: "Generally regarded as safe" Not mandatory to report to the FDA Americans are very trusting of their government to oversee, ensure what we eat is safe Food companies invent ingredients; Safety tested by the companies, FDA doesn't have the resources to check everything How is the FDA regulated? NRDC, watchdog organization WTF: Red dye #3 was banned in cosmetics, but not in maraschino cherries? GAO: Org that exists to submit claims with concerns about unsafe ingredients -Some of the common lies about ingredients we find on packaged food...47:30 Parmesan cheese had up to 13% cellulose added to it Sargento capitalized on new awareness, but in a deceitful way "Off the block" Read the ingredients, still using cellulose Former CEO of Whole Foods asked Vani for "next level" of package labeling trends Will see ingredients on front, vs. the back of packaging RX Bar: "No BS"... had "natural flavoring" on the back of the package Natural flavors can have multiple chemicals used "Incidental additives" -What concerns we should have if we buy all organic...55:36 Different levels of "organic" 100% - every ingredient is organic 95% - up to 5% non-organic allowed "Made with organic ingredients" - only 70% need to be organic Pesticides used on organic products Certified organic farm must use natural methods of controlling weeds before using pesticides Types of chemicals are tested Eating organic doesn't avoid pesticides; it does reduce the load on your body Beware of glyphosate -What does the diet look like for The Food Babe?...1:03:50 Avoid as many packaged and processed foods as possible Eat most meals at home Steel cut oatmeal w/ flax seeds, chia seeds, fruit Make a salad for lunch Dinner: 4 course meals -And much more... Look I get it, I didn't post an ep last week. I had to hold this one cause I was busy, but trust me, it was hilarious. I'd put a better description up but I forget what we talked about. Probably buttholes, and such. I do remember it was funny. Listen to Xanathars Lost Boys Follow us on social media @LosLostBoys on twits and @LosLostBoys_podcast on insta. Listen to Some Guys Talking.
