Paul WilsonTranscriptBack in mid-November of 2025, I did an episode on extrajudicial killings, focusing on the targeting of speedboats, mostly from Venezuela headed toward the United States, by the US military. These boats were allegedly carrying drugs meant for the US market, and the US government justified these strikes by saying, basically, we have a right to protect ourselves, protect our citizens from the harm caused by these illegal substances, and if we have to keep taking out these boats and killing these people to do that, we will.There's been a lot of back-and-forthing about the legitimacy of this approach, both in the sense that not all of these boats have been shown to be carrying drugs, some just seemed to be fishing boats in the wrong place at the wrong time, and in the sense that launching strikes without the go-ahead of Congress in the US is a legally dubious business. There was also the matter of some alleged follow-up strikes, which seemed to be intended to kill people who survived the initial taking-out of the boats, which is a big international human rights no no, to the point of potentially being a war crime.All of this happened within the context of a war of words between US President Trump's second administration and the increasingly authoritarian regime of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who followed the previous president Hugo Chávez as his hand-picked successor, and has more or less completed the authoritarian process of dissolving, coopting, or diminishing all aspects of the Venezuelan government that might ever check his power, which allowed him, in 2024, to bar the very popular, now Nobel Peace Prize winning candidate María Corina Machado from running, and her sub-in candidate, like previous Maduro opponent Juan Guaido, seems to have won the election by a fair bit, and in an internationally provable way, but Maduro's government faked results that made it look like he won, and his single-party rule has since continued unabated.Or rather, it continued unabated until the early morning of January 3, 2026, around 2am, when US Operation Absolute Resolve kicked into action, leading to the—depending on who you ask—justified captured or illegal kidnapping—of Maduro and his wife from a stronghold in his country.And that's what I'd like to talk about today: the operation itself, but also the consequences and potential meaning of it within the context of other important things happening in the world right now.—Maduro is immensely popular with about a fifth of the Venezuelan population, but essentially everyone else is strongly opposes him and his iron-fisted rule.It's estimated that between 2017 and 2025, just shy of 8 million people, which is more than 20% of Venezuela's 2017 population, has fled the country in order to escape a tyrannical government and its failed policies, which have collapsed the economy, made getting working and feeding oneself and one's family difficult, and made crime, conflict, and the state-sanctioned oppression of anyone who doesn't kowtow to the ruling party a commonplace thing.Trump speculated about the possibility of invading Venezuela even in his first administration, and part of the overt rationale was that it's run by a failed government that most of the locals hate, so it would be an easy win. That justification shifted to orient around immigration and drugs by his second administration, and then more recently, Trump has said publicly that the real issue here is that Venezuela stole a bunch of US company-owned oil assets when it nationalized the industry back in the day, and those assets should be recaptured, given back to the US.Operation Absolute Resolve took months to plan and only about two and a half hours to complete. By most objective measures it was a spectacular military and intelligence success, especially considering all the moving parts and thus, all the things that could have gone wrong.The operation apparently involved at least 150 aircraft of various sorts, a spy within Maduro's government, and months of surveillance, which helped them establish Maduro's habits and routines, and that allowed them to map out where he would be, when, and what to expect going in to get him. All of these patterns changed in September of 2025 when US warships started massing in Caribbean, as Maduro started to get a little paranoid—justifiably, as it turns out—and he started moving between eight different locations, seldom sleeping in the same place more than one night in a row.He was eventually grabbed from a military base in Caracas, Venezuela's capitol, and to make that happen the US military assets in the area had to take out local aviation and air defenses so that US Delta Force troops could be carried in by helicopter. Several air bases and communications centers were taken out by missiles, and fighter jets were bombed on air base tarmacs. Trump alluded that a cyberattack of some kind might have also been used to take out power in the area, though satellite imagery suggests bombs might have been used against a power station to make that happen.The operation apparently went almost exactly as planned, though a helicopter was damaged and the Delta Force team killed a large part of Maduro's security team when he refused to surrender. A few US soldiers were wounded, but none were killed, and Venezuelan officials said, in the aftermath, that lat least 40 Venezuelans were killed throughout the country during the operation. Maduro and his wife were swept from the base before they could lock themselves in their safe room, and they were tucked into the helicopters which headed out to sea, landing them on the USS Iwo Jima, which is an assault ship.All of this took a matter of hours and, again, is generally considered to be an objective success, in terms of precision, outcome, and other such metrics. Morally, legally, and politically, however, the operation is receiving a far more mixed response, and that response is continuing to play out as Maduro works his way through a bizarre version of the US justice system where he's being sent to court for drug dealing.In the US, Trump supporters have generally said all of this was a good, smart move, though some maintain that US involvement in any kind of international conflict is a waste of time, effort, and resources, and they worry about getting bogged down in another Iraq or Afghanistan-style conflict.Everyone else is generally against the effort, even those who admit that Maduro was a tyrant who needed to go—it's good that he's gone, but the way in which it was done is not just questionable, but worrying because of what it says about Trump's capacity to unilaterally launch kidnapping missions against the leaders of other countries. Not a good look, but also kind of scary.Internationally the response is generally aligned with the latter opinion, especially in other countries that Trump has at some point threatened, which is most of them.Governments in South and Central America have been especially concerned, however, because one of Trump's newer messaging efforts has revolved around the concept of a Western Hemisphere basically owned and protected by the US. Do whatever you want in the rest of the world, basically, but everything over here is ours. This has raised the possibility that an emboldened Trump might attempt similar maneuvers soon, including possibly claiming the Panama Canal for the US again, or grabbing the leaders of other Latin American countries he doesn't think are kowtowing enthusiastically enough; toeing the new international line that he's drawing, basically.He's also renewed messaging around the possible purchase or capture of Greenland, which has been raising alarm bells across Europe in particular. Greenland is considered to be a vital strategic base for US security, and it would grant potential access to an abundance of also strategically and economically important minerals, both on land and underwater, but Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark, and most European leaders have said something along the lines of “if the US takes action to militarily claim Greenland, that'll be the end of NATO,” an organization that was originally founded to help protect the world, and Europe especially, from military conquest from the Soviet Union, but which, at that point, might be recalibrated to protect against incursions from the US, as well.NATO has been mostly funded and perpetuated by the US until recently, however, so there's a chance that something else would need to replace it, if the US is no longer providing nuclear deterrence as the ultimate whammy against a potential Russian invasion of its European neighbors.The UN has also indicated that they consider this operation to be a violation of international law, and have called it a dangerous precedent—because one nation capturing the leader of another nation, unilaterally, kind of negates the purpose of negotiations and the whole concept of international law. The United States announced the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, after overnight strikes in the capital city, Caracas. The operation followed months of increasing pressure by the Trump administration.President Donald Trump said the United States lost no aircraft and had no casualties in the operation.Maduro and his wife were transported to the USS Iwo Jima before being flown to the United States to face indictments, including on narco-terrorism. Trump announced that the United States will run Venezuela until "we can do a safe, proper, and judicious transition."

President Trump has announced the United States will run Venezuela until an orderly transition can be achieved, saying he wasn't afraid of putting boots on the ground. His comments came hours after US forces captured the Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro (and his wife) during an overnight raid in Caracas. Mr Trump said Mr Maduro would soon face narco-terrorism charges in New York, posting a picture of the Venezuelan leader blindfolded and handcuffed. Mr Trump warned the US military would remain engaged to prevent resistance, but US Democrats have condemned a prolonged American involvement. THE MOMENT The esteemed Higa family was such a significant part of my life in Japan. I am very excited and honored to have Howard Higa as my guest over FaceTime from Honolulu, Hawaii. Howard was born in Wahiawa on Oahu, and when he was 12, his family moved to Japan, where he attended the ASIJ. He went to college in Missouri and then served in the US Navy as a public affairs officer during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Iwo Jima. Although he wanted to pursue a career in folk music, Howard chose to study business in college. Amidst his studies, Howard successfully ran his first company selling stone lanterns. His aspirations led him to the importing/trading business specializing in fur coats and golf gear to candies and macadamia nuts. Among the vast array of companies, Howard shares how he established Honolulu Cellular, one of the first mobile carriers in the US. He is also well known in Hawaii as the owner of The Cab, the biggest taxi company. The Cab provided for many immigrant families, and their children thrived in successful careers. Howard recently had an epiphany while on a TV show and realized his life's purpose; his AH-HA moment. We are all driven towards financial success, but what is it all for? Paying it forward by assisting people in getting their life dreams: at age 78, Howard is finally coming to terms with this blessed calling, or as his Japanese mentor put it, "ikigai."

In this episode we talk to Craig Martin of High Seas Provisions. Craig is a Navy veteran, and served as a machinists mate for just over 10 years. He planned to make a career out of the Navy until the Navy decided to change his plans. Craig talks about how he had no desire to join the military, yet, after he enlisted, decided to stay. He talks about starting in the Nuclear Engineering program in the Navy, and how he eventually made his way onto the USS Iwo Jima. When Craig left the Navy he tried to start a new career, but wasn't riding what he was looking for. Craig talks about how he started his company on the side, while working full time. And how eventually, his company became successful enough, that he was able to transition to working full time in his business. Wyly Gray is a Veteran Writer, Public Speaker, and Entrepreneur originally from Kansas City, Missouri, serving as the Founder and Director of Soldier On Corps, a veteran service organization dedicated to preserving and sharing veterans’ stories of service, sacrifice and transition. Following a challenging upbringing, Wyly spent 8 and a half years active duty in the Marine Corps. Wyly served in many roles during his time in the Corps starting from the humble rank of Private in the ammunition field, rising to Sergeant as Assistant Detachment Commander at our Embassy in Yemen, and finally finishing as an Artillery Battery Ammunition Chief earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.   Wyly deployed twice: 1st in 2003 on the maiden voyage of the USS Iwo Jima in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, then again to Helmand Valley Province, Afghanistan in 2008 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Through these progressively more challenging roles, Wyly was able to travel to more than 30 countries spanning 5 continents. Wyly speaks conversational French and poor Serbio-Croat.   Upon discharge, Wyly spent 6 months as a security contractor in Sarajevo, Bosnia and followed that with six months teaching English in a small city in the Vojvodina Province of Serbia. He returned to the United States to pursue his education and was accepted into Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. to finish his degree.   Despite being a student at his dream school, Wyly was discouraged with his transition to civilian life and found himself struggling. Wyly found his calling through service to those that shared similar experiences.   Wyly has been involved with veteran’s advocacy since 2012. He has spoken publicly for veterans on behalf of The Telling Project, The Mission Continues, The International Center for Journalists, and Pepsi. He has worked numerous hours in communities nationwide supporting veterans in transition on a national scale with The Mission Continues. In "This Week in the DoD" for April 13: This week marked the one-year anniversary of the Joining Forces campaign, a program focused on military families led by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden. The White House celebrated the anniversary, and Obama appeared on a special military-focused episode of "The Colbert Report." Two service members were awarded their service's second-highest honors this week. U.S. Air Force Capt. Barry Crawford was given the Air Force Cross for his leadership and bravery during a special tactics operation in a Taliban stronghold. U.S. Army Sgt. Felipe Pereira received the Distinguished Service Cross for his actions following a suicide attack and ambush in Kandahar, Afghanistan. In Virginia Beach, Va., an F/A-18 fighter jet crashed, hitting an apartment complex. The air crew ejected safely; nobody was killed in the crash. The Navy is currently looking into the reasons for the mishap and beginning the compensation process for people who lost their homes and property. In Morocco, a Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey went down, killing two Marines. The crew, operating from the USS Iwo Jima, were taking part in Exercise African Lion, an annual bilateral training exercise between the U.S. military and the Kingdom of Morocco. This year, Tax Day is Tuesday, April 17. Certain service members and military families have different deadlines, and there are services available to troops who haven't yet filed.

In the Galilee capital there were 11,000 Moslems and 500 Jews with weapons. The British handed over high elevation places to the enemies of Israel. There were NOT enough weapons and NOT enough Jews. However, the Jews had a Commander-In-Chief, the LORD our Banner: YHWH NISSI. You know the stories of the 1967 War and the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Israel won both wars with MIRACLES - real miracles – of Biblical proportions. Outnumbered by odds of between 40 to 1 and 82 to 1, G-d gave Israel the victories. In 1968 I invited an Israeli soldier named Ygael (who had fought in the Six Day War) to my home for dinner with friends. He told us how he had been shot at point blank with a machine gun by an Arab a few meters away. Obviously, he was alive and telling me about it. The above is not even taking into consideration the multitudinous MIRACLE victories Israel has experienced since the first Passover in Egypt. MUSIC There have been several books written on battles described in the Holy Bible. One such is, Battles of the Bible, by Chaim Herzog and Mordechai Gichon. However, read what one reviewer has to say about that book: “I bought this book wanting to enhance the biblical accounts of battles with current archaeological and even strategic information. What I found were two atheists trying to re-write the biblical accounts by ascribing God's miracles to human ingenuity. It felt like reading Darwin, trying to tell me I was not created, but evolved from a monkey. They ascribed the Israelites crossing the Jordon to Joshua being able to strategically time earthquakes. Bottom line... I found this book insulting to anyone who knows and understands the Biblical accounts of the battles they describe. No wonder Israel is in such bad shape. If this man was Israel's president then I understand now why they are in such a political and spiritual mess. He did not see God, though God was using him to establish Israel as a nation again. Save your money (and) read the biblical account, it's more accurate.” A PSYCHOLOGICAL MINDSET FOR ATTACK AGAINST OR BY IRAN Since the United Nations is NOT taking an active part in sanctions against Iran, the US is stepping up to the plate and preparing for a partial naval blockade of Iranian imports of benzene and other refined oil products. Iran might try to close the Strait of Hormuz to retaliate. However, this would be stupid because it would hurt Iran the most because of its own oil exports. Also, 40 percent of the world’s oil passes through here, and this would NOT be pleasing to Iran’s oil rich neighbors, even if they are cousins. Three new US Naval formations are now in Middle East waters, increasing the number of US attack ready forces in that area of the world to five. More than 40 carriers, warships and submarines, some of the latest nuclear-armed, positions US Naval and Air strength strategically adjacent to Iran. Notice, this kind of naval and air resource has NOT been seen since right before the invasion of Iraq in 2003. The three formations include the USS Theodore Roosevelt, the USS Ronald Reagan, and the USS Iwo Jima. The USS Peleliu is in the Gulf of Aden now and the USS Abraham Lincoln is in the Arabian Sea adjacent to Iran. At this  time, Russia is currently building up its play for oil resources in the Caspian Sea (against Georgia) while the US is strengthening its position to protect oil resources in the Middle East. MUSIC IRAN HAS A DUAL TIME ROLE TO PLAY Iran will definitely have a part … a PROPHETICAL part … to play in the not too far distant future when, aligned with Russia and other allies, she attacks Israel. However, in that future battle, the LORD will wipe out Russia, Iran, and their allies on the hills of Israel miraculously. Any person, by looking into the eye of another, will see his own image perfectly expressed, though in extreme miniature, in the pupil of the other. In like manner, the eye of G-d is ever on his follower, and the follower of G-d (in this case, Israel) is ever impressed on the eye of G-d. Israel has the notice, the attention, the providence, the mercy, and the PROTECTION of G-d. Just as you and I protect the pupil of our eye from something approaching, so YHWH NISSI protects His People and provides for them in battle. SUMMARY G-d has always given Israel victory in the past WHEN they trusted Him and obeyed Him. Israel has NO other move on the military chessboard than to attack Iran NOW before Iran unleashes nuclear warheads against Israel. MINDSET #4 – Israel has a right to her land: By decree (UN Resolution) By victory (1948, 1967, 1973) By promise (G-d to Abraham) MINDSET #5 – Israel has G-d as her Commander-In-Chief. MINDSET #6 – Israel has the weapons, the intel, and the resources to win this conflict. MINDSET #7 – Israel must attack Iran NOW … or it will be too late! MUSIC THE ABILITY OF JHWH NISSI TO GIVE VICTORY AND TO PROTECT For the LORD'S portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance. "He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye." (Torah: Deuteronomy 32:9-10) "For thus saith the LORD of hosts; ‘After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that touches you touches the apple of his eye.’" (Tanakh: Zechariah 2:8) The phrase, apple of his eye, (Hebrew b'babath eyno), the babah of his eye is a profound expression. Any person, by looking into the eye of another, will see his own image perfectly expressed, though in extreme miniature, in the pupil of the other. In like manner, the eye of G-d is ever on his follower, and the follower of G-d (in this case, Israel) is ever impressed on the eye of G-d. Israel has the notice, the attention, the providence, the mercy, and the PROTECTION of G-d. Just as you and I protect the pupil of our eye from something approaching, so YHWH NISSI protects His People and provides for them in battle. SUMMARY G-d has always given Israel victory in the past WHEN they trusted Him and obeyed Him. Israel has NO other move on the military chessboard than to attack Iran NOW before Iran unleashes nuclear warheads against Israel. Israel must have a mindset based upon actuality: undergirded by precision, prophecy, performance, and protection. Israel is the apple of G-d’s eye! Baruch haba b’Shem Adonai.
