In this episode of the Remnant Underground, Michael Matt covers the transexual funeral scandal in New York City's iconic Cathedral of Saint Patrick. How did this happen? Why did it happen? And how on earth can Cardinal Dolan claim that the “Cathedral people” did a great job with the damage control? Yeah, well, after the damage was already done. Once the whole world had witnessed the desecration of the premier Catholic church in America, Cardinal Dolan said it was time for a Mass of Reparation, while critics are calling on him to reconsecrate the Cathedral. In any case, has there ever been a better example of what St. Athanasius said during the Arian Heresy: “They have our buildings, but we have the Faith!” Exactly! At the zenith of the Enlightenment, the French Revolution, a totalitarian party remembered as the “Jacobins” forged a powerful centralized state, launched the Reign of Terror, implemented a “Cult of Reason” as the official state religion, publicly beheaded and drowned countless Christians as part of a national program of “dechristianization,” and committed the first modern genocide—targeting the intransigent Catholic population of the Vendee. Despite its anti-Christian character, the Enlightenment has been so influential that present-day Christians themselves often operate within an unconscious framework of Enlightenment assumptions. Carmen and Ian discuss a few examples.

Michael Matt on the road in Cajun country, discusses the slaughter of 500,000 pioneer traditional Catholics a couple of hundred years ago in the Vendee. Never heard of it? Not surprising! Before Michael Matt and and the late Michael Davies led a pilgrimage to the Vendee in 1995 -- an event that led to the publication of the book, "For Altar and Throne: The Rising in the Vendee" -- very few Americans had ever even heard of the Vendee. And what's worse, most French didn't know anything about it, either, since this massive civil war was not taught in French schools. It still isn't, in fact, because it puts the lie to the fake news story that the Enlightenment was all about liberty. Not so! The first act of the Enlightenment in France was a genocidal extermination of half a million French Catholics. This video was shot in Louisiana, where a number of Catholic descendants of French Catholics have founded a new organization that is devoted to telling the truth about what happened in the Vendee and, at the same time, committed to living out the Catholic Faith exactly as it was lived in the Vendee. So is the War in the Vendee actually over? Has the last chapter been written yet? Was the sacrifice of so many original Traditional Catholics in vain, or by their deaths did the heroes of the Vendee actually snatch victory from the jaws of defeat? Hint: Napoleon said the Vendeans -- the "little giants" actually won, and you won't believe why he said that. Michael explains . . . Hailing from Palm Springs, California, this six-year-old male became the first of his breed to achieve this esteemed honor. Originally bred for hare tracking in the Vendee region of western France, Buddy Holly's triumph marks a significant milestone for the petit basset griffon Vendeen breed. Janice Hayes, Buddy Holly's co-owner and handler, expressed her astonishment at their victory, stating, "I never thought PBGV would do this. Buddy Holly truly embodies the essence of a champion show dog." Each breed showcased at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show represents the culmination of years of artificial selection, carefully refining and enhancing specific traits inherited from their ancestral wolves. The competition's participants were classified into seven distinct groups to determine the ultimate best in show finalists: hound, toy, non-sporting, herding, sporting, working, and terrier. Buddy Holly emerged as the winner of the hound group, showcasing his exemplary qualities within his breed. The runner-up, receiving the prize for reserve best in show, was awarded to Rummie, a Pekingese from the toy group. Bred and owned by David Fitzpatrick, Rummie demonstrated the exceptional characteristics that epitomize the breed. The judges meticulously evaluated the dogs by examining them up close, physically interacting with them, and observing how the handlers led them around the floor. The dogs were assessed based on breed standards, including appearance, temperament, size, coat, and other defining characteristics. The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, which traces its origins back to 1877, has grown into a highly anticipated annual event and a staple on television broadcasts. This year, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the show took place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York, the site of the renowned U.S. Open tennis tournament. In previous years, the event was traditionally held at Madison Square Garden in Midtown Manhattan but was relocated to a smaller venue at Lyndhurst Mansion as a precautionary measure. Buddy Holly's groundbreaking victory not only solidifies his place in dog show history but also serves as an inspiration to future generations of petit basset griffon Vendeen enthusiasts. Reference article:https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/dog-named-buddy-holly-is-first-its-breed-win-westminster-show-2023-05-10/ https://tw.stock.yahoo.com/news/%E5%9C%96%E8%BC%AF-%E7%8B%97%E7%95%8C%E5%A5%A7%E6%96%AF%E5%8D%A1-%E8%A5%BF%E6%95%8F%E5%AF%BA%E7%8A%AC%E5%B1%95%E7%99%BB%E5%A0%B4-%E9%80%99%E9%9A%BB%E6%AF%9B%E5%AD%A9%E9%A6%96%E5%A5%AA%E5%86%A0-095309716.html Powered by Firstory Hosting

Shirley Robertson's Sailing Podcast continues this month with one of offshore sailing's most active campaigners,  a sailor who's career spans two decades at the highest level of the sport and includes a record equaling five Vendee Globe starts.  Alex Thomson, widely known for his Vendee campaigns sailing a series of iconic Hugo Boss IMOCA, has done much to raise awareness of offshore sailing and with his team, has been responsible for some of the most innovative developments the monohull  IMOCA Class has ever seen.Obviously, much of Thomson's discussion in this two part podcast centres around his various Vendee Globe campaigns, but in this first episode there's much discussion about Thomson's early career path, time spent sailing with Sir Robin Knox Johnston and the result of his time spent with British business tycoon Sir Keith Mills...:"We met at Shoreham airport, we flew to Brest, and he bought me a boat for 1.1million Euros....That level of belief, in me, at that time, was difficult to comprehend really."Thomson is candid about his first campaign, as he is throughout the chat with Robertson, and reveals much about how, along with Sir Keith Mills, they brought Hugo Boss into what would go on to become one of the longest sponsorship partnerships in the sport.Thomson has also had an eventful career that's involved a series of very high profile sinkings and race retirements, not least when keel damage to the original Hugo Boss famously left him floundering deep in the South Atlantic.  But the drama doesn't end with keel damage.Having discussed the cause of a very public falling out with fellow British offshore sailor Mike Golding, "...the next day in the Sunday Times, Mike called me a jumped up little prick!", Thomson discusses how, with his keel dangling uselessly from the hull, the only chance of rescue was of course, with Mike Golding, who pulled off a daring rescue with catastrophic circumstances...:"I was on the boat for about three hours...the wind hit, the boat leaned over, and his mast just collapsed, Mike is standing in the cockpit with his mouth open, and I'm now feeling guilty...I said to Mike, 'I am so sorry..."In the second part of this podcast the chat about Thomson's Vendee campaigns continues, , but there's much discussion about his series of daring stunts that have netted him over 10million views on YouTube alone.  Support the show

Shirley Robertson's Sailing Podcast continues with Part 2  of the fascinating chat with one of offshore sailing's most active campaigners,  a sailor who's career spans two decades at the highest level of the sport and includes a record equaling five Vendee Globe starts.  Alex Thomson, widely known for his Vendee campaigns sailing a series of iconic Hugo Boss IMOCA, has done much to raise awareness of offshore sailing and with his team, has been responsible for some of the most innovative developments the monohull  IMOCA Class has ever seen.Part 1 of  of Thomson's discussion with Robertson takes in Thomson's remarkable career path, time spent sailing with Sir Robin Knox Johnston and his early Vendee Globe campaigns. In this edition, Thomson talks all about the progression in design and build of the IMOCA Class, the now foiling monohull class that he and his team have been key protagonists in developing over the past twenty years of racing.  The duo also cover Thomson's remaining attempts to win the Vendee Globe, and of course discuss the series of sailing stunts that have netted Thomson millions of views on YouTube, taking in the evolution of the idea, the execution of the stunts themselves and Thomson's desire to bring new audiences to his offshore campaigns are all talked through in this revealing chat...:"Hugo Boss had done a trick shot video with Martin Kymer, the German golfer, and put it on the internet and they told us they had fifty thousand views....and I went back to the team and said 'we've got to come up with an idea, put it on the internet and get more than fifty thousand views'...so we got a couple of suits...shot it....and we put it on the internet and...a million views in a week!."This is a fascinating insight into the career of a man that has spent over two decades chasing a dream to win one of offshore sailing's biggest accolades, he's gone against convention, pushed boundaries of design, and suffered some well publicised failures, but most interestingly in this chat with Robertson, Alex Thomson also suggests that when it comes to trying to win the Vendee Globe, he's not quite done yet. This edition of the podcast is in two parts and is available to listen to via the podcast page of Shirley's own website - www.shirleyrobertson.com/podcast or via most popular podcast outlets, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcast and aCast. Tonight we concluded letter 77 and went on to read letter 78. As we have seen in past weeks, Theophan is much more direct with Anastasia now that she has made her decision to enter into the religious life. In multiple ways, she has been tempted either by those who have no faith, by her fear of injustice and false accusation, or her desire to express and pursue her own freedom. Theophan warns her against all these things and the kind of false freedom especially that we cling to that offers no hope. In fact, Theophan refers to it as an “evil impulse that is evil”. We are called to walk the path of the cross; to die to self and to self-will and to live for Christ. We have not been promised the love of the world. Rather, we have been promised just the opposite - its hatred. Why would she want to flee her parents house when in reality it is a protective environment for her? It is there that she can learn the life of a obedience at the hand of those who love her the most. What greater opportunity is there to be formed for the religious life than this? Don't chase false freedoms, he warns her. The impulse to freedom is like chasing rainbows or desiring to catch shadows. When we look at the world we see unhappy people desperately seeking to assert themselves -  often at the cost of others. She must learn to look at her life in the light of Christ and her freedom in light of the communion of love in which she exists with God. Anything else is an illusion. --- Text of chat during the group: 00:06:03 Art: Posting a follow up to Eric C's question from last week.  While he was asking I was reminded of one possible answer to the dilemma whether to obey the Church 10 years ago or the Church one month ago.  Rather than butcher the response, I've included the actual source.  It begins around 15:28 and ends around 20:50   Two points I found helpful were the comments that in a crisis there is an objectively right thing to do. “You hold on to what was always believed everywhere by everybody.”  “What has the Church always believed?  That is what I must continue to believe.”  And    “The faith does not change.  What was once true is still true. Either it was false then, in which case it is false now.  Or else it was true then and it's true now.”  The speaker is Fr. David Sherry SSPX.    Hopefully you find it helpful.   http://sspxpodcast.com/2021/12/crisis-series-49-father-what-can-i-do-about-the-crisis-in-the-church/   00:32:13 Anthony: I've wondered if this applies to legal processes such as the cases for freedom to act according to a well formed conscience.  OK, suppose you lose the case....would that change your acting according to a well formed conscience?  We are called to accept persecutions.   00:35:35 Anthony: Would the truth of the cross apply to suffering under the English "Reformation," the French Revolution and the Vendee, the American Revolution....and current events like in Eastern Europe?   00:40:30 John Clark: I once had to confront an office bully…It was a good outcome   00:43:00 Lyle: Today, some of us were meditating on the Office of Readings regarding St. Polycarp's martyrdom.  His last words brought tears to my eyes.  “I praise you for all things, I bless you, I glorify you through the eternal priest of heaven, Jesus Christ, your beloved Son. Through him be glory to you, together with him and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen”.   00:43:21 Lyle: Surrounded by the fire, his body was like bread that is baked, or gold and silver white-hot in a furnace, not like flesh that has been burnt. So sweet a fragrance came to us that it was like that of burning incense or some other costly and sweet-smelling gum.   00:44:18 Carol Nypaver: Amen!  St. Polycarp, pray for us!   00:46:48 Erick Chastain: you get an academic department at a major public university   00:47:22 Erick Chastain:

By 1793, The War of (or in) the Vendee region (in France) exploded into a major counter revolution/insurrection against the French Revolution.  With the European war also going bad, the Committee of Public Safety took drastic measures to stop the insurrections.  In the fall of 1793, the former Queen Marie Antoinette  met the same fate as her husband had nine months earlier.  Public opinion of the Jacobins began to turn against them and by the summer of 1794, one of its chief architects and voices, Maximilien Robespierre, was executed by the guillotine.  These same few years are also noted for the infamous Reign of Terror. President Richard Nixon visited China in February 1972.  The first American President to visit the Peoples Republic of China.  His meetings with Mao Zedong led to the Shanghai Communique.  That document, among many things, created the One China Policy concept.  Nixon also tried unsuccessfully to gain concessions or agreements with Chairman Mao on the Vietnam War. By 1973, the culture revolution had permeated every level of the nation.  Apathy and indifference set in causing, at least partially, shortages and rationing of critical items.

By early 1793, parts of France were beginning to heat up with counter-revolutions opposing the conditions many faced.  In rural France the opposition continued to grow and would later escalate into the War of the Vendee.  Partially in response, the National Assembly, now firmly under the control of the radical Jacobin Party, created the Committee of Public Safety.  The Committee would soon be ushering in the Reign of Terror. Meanwhile, France continued to prosecute the war in Europe.  The thrust and parry of France's military progress typical for this war.  England, Spain, and Russia got involved in the war.  Within six months following the King's execution in early 1793, the whole of Europe was aligned against France. In early 1970, the latest effort, the one strike and three antis' campaign, was launched to root out and remove the perceived counter revolutionaries within China.  To counter and isolate the Soviet Union and to change the world's perception of China, Chairman Mao, using the Chinese table tennis team, invited the United States to China for diplomatic relations.  In 1971, President Nixon's administration sent Henry Kissinger to China to begin the preparatory work for diplomatic relations and an eventual visit from the American President.  By then Mao Zedong had grown weary and distrustful of his Vice Chair, Lin Biao.  Lin Biao, fearing for his life, attempted to flee China by airplane in the dark of night.  The plane crashed in Mongolia in September 1971, allegedly taking the life of Lin Biao and some of his family members.

In this month's edition of the podcast, Shirley Robertson sits down face to face with one of offshore sailing's most accomplished sailors, as she talks to British offshore trail blazer, Dee Caffari.Caffari's achievements are well documented, she holds multiple 'firsts', she's sailed around the planet six times, completed two Volvo Ocean Races, spent months alone at sea sailing 'the wrong way around' and finished a Vendee Globe in it's most attritional edition ever.  And she's achieved all of that after a sudden and unexpected career change in her mid twenties...:"I don't fit the mould, I think that's what confuses everybody, and they can't pigeon hole me, they can't put me into a box so I always feel on the outside a little bit.  I grew up dancing, I didn't grow up sailing!"From the outset Robertson and Caffari's discussion is frank and honest.  Dee reveals the catalysts that saw her turn away from a successful and established career to take a chance on making it in the world of sailing.  Her story is inspiring, and before long she was skippering a yacht of amateurs in the 2004 Global Challenge race. That successful endeavour kick started an unparalleled career that first saw her become the first woman ever to sail around the world solo non-stop against the prevailing winds and currents.  From there a Vendee Globe campaign onboard "Aviva" lead to a sixth place finish in an edition of the gruelling race that saw just eleven boats complete the course."In 2008 there were thirty entires, and only eleven finished, completed the race.  In the war of attrition, which the Vendee is known for, the odds are pretty much always against you.  But for me the big thing was to stand in the skippers' line up!  I hadn't grown up in that environment and I'd literally just exchanged my 42 ton steel tank for an 8 ton carbon fibre race machine!"Episode One of this two part podcast finishes as Dee Caffari sails across the start line of the 24 000 mile Vendee Globe.  Her journey non stop solo around the world is then picked up as the duo continue their chat in Part 2.Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sailingpodcast)

Thursday Red Pill Diaries-The Cabal's “New World Order” Has Arrived-We Are All Vendee Now   BIOGRAPHY Mike Church Biography – “Too Catholic For Satellite Radio” In May of 2015, Chris Ferrara wrote a bio pic essay on a talk-radio host who was then completely unknown to Catholic, talk-radio fans. The Mike Church Interview: A Remarkable Conversion to Tradition Changes the Face of Political Talk Radio Featured Chris wrote of me back then, words that were too kind but serve as a basis for this biography. Indeed, over the past year or so Mike Church has emerged as the only traditionally Catholic conservative in talk radio today, anywhere in the world. And I mean traditional. Not only during my appearances on the show, but now thematically, Mike has turned the longest running political talk show on Sirius Radio into an unabashed presentation of the Social Kingship of Christ, traditional Catholic moral teaching, and even the traditional Latin liturgy as the solution to what is evidently otherwise a terminal civilizational crisis. I have been invited on the show numerous times to defend all of these things explicitly, to speak of the one true Church, and even to call upon conservative Protestants to enter the Church if they are serious about saving our nation and our civilization. From there, on October 26, 2015, my 13 year run on Sirius Satellite Radio came to a close when my contract was not renewed. Chris would follow the above bio with an updated one titled, The Mike Church Show – Too Catholic For Satellite Radio. MIKE CHURCH BIOGRAPHY FACTS Born, February 2nd, New Orleans Begun talk-radio in 1992, WSLA, Slidell LA, I have been off air a total of 7 months since. Launched the Sirius Satellite Radio service as its FIRST – LIVE talk-show on 10 March, 2003. Promoted to Morning Drive on the SiriusXM Patriot Channel, May 2009, the 3rd most listened to show on the platform From July 2007 – present, founded Founding Father Films, wrote, produced, narrated and directed 9, full length audio features, two that made it to DVD! Returned to the Roman Catholic Church's Tridentine Mass and Tradition in 2013. Consecrated to Our Lady via de Montfort's formula in December 2014. I had been planning for SiriusXM to “whack me” since 2012 and had laid the structural groundwork for the next step in my career: launching the Veritas Radio Network and The CRUSADE Channel. On November 1st, 2015, in a video webcast for the press, I announced the VRN and that on November 15th, the Mike Church Show would be silent no more and would return to the air, this time on a platform custom built for LIVE talk radio. This week's episode is all about dreaming big, no matter what the obstacles in your way might be. I have the great pleasure of talking to Captain Donald Lawson about his dream to be the first African American to compete in the epic and perilous Vendée Globe Non-Stop-Solo-Round-The-World yacht race in 2024. His course towards this epic voyage was set at the age of 9 when he found himself on a large sailboat, talking to the captain about the fact this boat could go all the way around the world. Since that day, this has been Donald's passion and purpose. He is a highly qualified and experienced sailor and instructor - spending time with the US Navy. Indeed, he calls sailing the greatest teacher there is. But he's the thing. As a man of colour, this path was not an obvious one and sometimes not one encouraged by other yacht club members, as you'll hear. Captain Lawson acknowledges the vital role in his development of allies and mentors such as legendary US sailor, Bruce Schwab. Indeed, if you'd like to see some video of life in The Southern Ocean - check out this film of Bruce talking about his Vendee experience - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2OhD7nY6GY When you consider how few people have since the Vendee Glove began in 1989, only 71 sailors have successfully completed the course. You get a sense of just how tough and demanding Donald's voyage will be. But armed with the mojo he has, and the support of loved ones, friends and an amazing support team at Whitecap Sailing You wouldn't want to bet against him. Donald is breaking down barriers each step of his way - those in the ocean from Mother Nature and also those imposed by a society where so few people of colour have been encouraged to sail. It is often exercised by powerful corporations, editors, academic administrators, or unaccountable attackers operating through anonymous social media platforms. It rejects the distinction between offense and harm, between disagreement and discrimination, and between words and actions. It often reduces complex issues to a binary view such as one can only be “anti-racist” or “racist”. It rejects the importance of a person’s intent in making a statement and refuses to take into account how long ago a statement was made, the person’s age at the time they made it, or whether the statement in any way reflects a person’s current thinking.” Nothing would break them in the Vendee.

JT's family has a summer home in Noirmoutier en l'Ile in the Bay of Biscay on the western Atlantic coast of France which I had the privilege of visiting. While it may be in the new Pays de la Loire region now, historically this area was part of Brittany.    I could imagine my friend growing up here in the summers riding a bike through the maze of salt marshes lined with blackberry brambles and coming home with telltale purple smudges on his lips. I found a bicycle in the garage and rode everyday rain or shine discovering a new beach or getting happily lost amongst the bright white mounds of salt.   Adding to the authenticity, the only language I heard spoken was French. The main food offerings were crepes and moule mariniere. And then local specialties like the Vendee brioche. You order oysters here by a number rating, the bigger the number, the smaller the oyster.   If you can come the first Saturday of May for the Bonnotte festival, you'll be treated to hand harvested potatoes eaten with local salt and lashings of butter.   https://www.ile-noirmoutier.com/en/savourer/nos-produits-locaux/potatoes-noirmoutier-island.html   Want answers? This year marks the 225th anniversary of the outbreak of the French Revolution. You don't have to be a historian to know and appreciate how significant that revolution is to our understanding of French society and culture since the eighteenth century. Noah Shusterman‘s new book, The French Revolution: Faith, Desire, and Politics (Routledge, 2013) is an accessible book that provides readers with an overview of the major events and historical actors who shaped the Revolution from the storming of the Bastille on July 14th, 1789 to the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1799. It is a book that offers a compelling narrative and draws on the vast field of scholarship that has analyzed and interpreted these events for over two centuries. This new study of the French Revolution emphasizes the central roles that religion and gender played as events unfolded, from the “liberal revolution” of 1789 through the emergence of the republic, from the Terror to Napoleon's ascent. Readers familiar with the history of the French Revolution will especially appreciate chapters that pay close attention to the 1790 Civil Constitution of the Clergy and the revolt in the Vendee, issues and events that do not often get the play they may deserve in other surveys. Those who have always wanted to learn about the Revolution will find this book a highly informative and fascinating introduction to historical events and actors that help us understand so much that followed, in France and well beyond its borders. In our interview, Noah and I talk about teaching , the plethora of historical and political interpretations of the French Revolution, and the continuing relevance of that history to a contemporary French republic still struggling with issues of faith, desire, and politics.
