To say that our next guest is a founder, speaker, and writer wouldn't quite capture who he is and what he does. Frank Jackson's company, The Pearl Effect, is a research based outlet for his own lived experience. It is the story of thriving, that is to say a story of well-being despite circumstances. Writing, speaking, and educating is how he creates impact and conveys his story because his story is the human story. Frank hopes to help communities and individuals change the narrative on their history toward one of strengths, beauty, and thriving. In episode 363 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast, we find out why Frank chose Texas Christian University for his undergraduate experience, why he decided to join Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., what is The Pearl Effect for the black community, what can I do if I know about communities who continue to persist, protect, and access well-being despite challenges, how I can create a more inclusive environment to get a more diverse membership, how I can educate members of my organization about different cultures, how we can reduce the financial barrier of joining fraternity and sorority life, what students can do to remove the stigma and misconceptions about fraternity and sorority life, and what is the best place to get a bite to eat in Philadelphia. Enjoy!

Good Morning Nashville! ☀️ We're wrapping up this month of April with a BANG on today's episode
He is an old friend and at 69, I am the young friend. He wrote to me on 2/18/23:Greetings, Dr. and Ms. Yoho:Today, with my Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, I walked the entire length of Fair Oaks Boulevard for the Black History Parade without pain or strain. You are both the source of my ability to achieve this goal.Robert, you introduced me to the powerful medicine of exercise. It took away the pain I had suffered from birth until I met you and your health coaching.Ms. Yoho, you introduced me to the healthy eating that I am devoted to.At 90 years old, I feel good, very good. And I continue to thank you. You vitalized my life.—A grateful JamesThis story began in 1978 when my wife (then married to someone else) met Dr. Smith at the Altadena funeral of another nurse who worked at Huntington Hospital. I did not arrive in Los Angeles until 1981. I trained and got a job in Emergency Medicine, then started a private practice. Around 1985, I saw Smith's son in my clinic and did not charge him. Our families occasionally ran into each other. Dr. Smith was a Ph.D. psychologist with a local practice. When I saw him in my office once, he was having trouble walking up and down stairs. He also told me about his lifelong back pain. I was a Board Certified Emergency Physician, and my neurological examination skills were amateurish, but his only problem seemed to be deconditioning.I invited him to my gym once and showed him how to use the exercise machines for two hours. I told him he needed to weightlift two to three times a week for 45 minutes. The plan was to use each machine once, spend less than an hour, and perform about 20 sets of eight repetitions each.I lost track of him for eight months, then he came in one day and told me that all his pain and trouble walking were gone. He had been going to the gym twice a week and loved it.During the last decades of Smith's career, he was invited to join the California Medical Board and then the California Bar. These bureaucracies oversee the professional practice of law and medicine here. I thought at first he might have some influence to protect my group of surgeons against the anti-competitive practices of the Plastic Surgery associations. However, Dr. Smith said that when he was appointed to each position, the politicians explained the facts of life. Their rules were that you did as they told you, or you would be fired. The second part of the story started during my enthusiasm for Dr. Greger and his vegan diet. My wife and I got the “bug,” she became a vegan chef, and we were strict about it for over a year. During this time, Dr. Smith caught the vegetable “disease” from us, and I gave him a copy of Michael Greger's book, How Not to Die. Our family eventually migrated into other dietary patterns after I lost strength from eating all those vegetables. (I explained my conclusions about diet in other works, including Hormone Secrets and several blogs.) But Smith persisted and felt great as a vegan. As we all aged, we stayed in contact, and my conclusion about him was that he was part of the ten percent who could successfully adapt to Michael Greger's eccentricities. But after my experience and closely examining the literature, I could no longer regard Greger as a trusted authority.Dr. Smith has steadfastly refused to use over-the-counter or prescription drugs. He does not even take Tylenol (acetaminophen) for his shoulder arthritis. During my recent podcast with Paul Thomas, MD, I was informed that this drug has significant health hazards and should not be used long-term. In honor of Black History Month, we have the gift of chatting with Racer Football alumnus George Radford. George is a native of Western Kentucky. He was in middle school in Trigg County when the district integrated, and he was recruited to play football at Murray State during the height of the civil rights movement. He was a two-sport Racer athlete and a charter member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He earned a bachelor's degree in health and PE in 1973, a Master's degree in 1981 and his Rank 1 in 1990, all from Murray State. He spent 27 years teaching PE and coaching football, basketball, track and field and cross country. When he started, he was the first Black coach in the Kentucky High School Athletics Association 5th District. In the mid-80s, George was among a group of local Black men and community leaders, several of whom are also Murray State alumni, who came together to found a non-profit organization they called Genesis Express. Their intention was to offer after-school activities, tutoring, summer programs, scholarships and other opportunities for local youth and financial support to people in need. After nearly 40 years, they are not only continuing their work, but growing, with a new building project underway. These men have had an incredible impact on generations of local children. George's tireless effort to support kids, his decades-long passion for his community, his love for people, his infectious positivity and grace are all reasons that George Radford is a Racer you should know. This podcast was produced with the help of Jim Ray Consulting Services and made possible by members of the Murray State University Alumni Association. Jim is a 1992 Murray State graduate. He can help you with the concept development, implementation, production and distribution of your own podcast, just as he has done for the MSUAA. Not a current member of the MSUAA? Let's change that! As an experienced sales professional who has worked with some of the world's largest brands, he now pursues his primary passion of mentoring and developing childhood education. In November 2021, the Board elected Nate as their Chairman for the 100 Black Men of Memphis, an honor for which he is grateful and humbled to be able to serve his community in such a significant capacity. The software is designed to help schools develop their students into proficient writers, more effective communicators, and to strengthen their overall literacy skills. The ultimate goal is to help close the widespread student achievement gap. Take a listen as Nate and I discuss his journey which consists of a very fickle market as it stands today. Ollie expresses there are numerous ways you can mitigate in this market and he's always looking for new clients. He's seeing an uptick in his client base in emerging industries such as social media influencers who are acquiring wealth. Nate says the key to excelling in the finance world is discipline and self mastery.

We later realized we were both members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and we hit it off immediately. It was only later that I discovered that Julio was into music as well. And I saw him popping out with a few music videos. I thought the music was intriguing and I wanted to learn more about what motivated him to start rapping. I learned a lot of about Julio in this conversation and it made me appreciate him and his art in a much more profound way. Hearing stories of how he grew up, how he started making music, and the lessons he learned along the way proved that YN Julioo has a good head on his shoulders and is striving to be the best he can be. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/big-skut/message

Although this position, along with his full-time job, requires a lot of his time, Brother Little does not allow his work to prevent him from spending quality time with his sons. It's not unusual to see the boys sitting on his lap while he's hosting a virtual meeting, or to witness Brother Little excusing himself from an event in order to be present for their bedtime routine. If you want tips on how to become more intentional as a parent, or if you want to know how to get your sons connected with the Guide Right/Kappa League program, listen to this very informative episode.

We can all agree across party lines that we ought to care deeply for our children. Yet, many children are left in the margins. Jesus says to let the children come to me and not to hinder them. There isn't an argument that certain populations and demographics of children in our country are hindered in many ways!In this episode, Bishop Wright has a conversation with The Rev. Dr. Starsky Wilson, President and CEO of the Children's Defense Fund (CDF). A nonprofit that envisions a nation where marginalized children flourish. In their conversation, they discuss the history of CDF, freedom schools, a movement of young people to address systemic racism, and the steps we must take to bring the justice of Jesus to life in our everyday lives.Rev. Dr. Starsky Wilson is president & CEO of the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) and CDF Action Council. CDF envisions a nation where marginalized children flourish, leaders prioritize their well-being, and communities wield the power to ensure they thrive. Wilson is board chair for the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) and the Forum for Theological Exploration (FTE).From 2011 through 2020, Rev. Wilson was president & CEO of Deaconess Foundation, a faith-based philanthropy for child well-being and racial justice in St. Louis.
