Today is Friday, October 20th and happy heavenly birthday to MLB HOF Mickey Manrtle. ***Mantle Last HR of career*** I'm Dan Radcliffe and here are the stories Cobb is talking about, presented by Engineered Solutions of Georgia. 22 Displaced After Fire a Marietta Apartment Complex Lawsuit Challenging Redrawing of Georgia's Congressional Districts Moving Forward Marietta Man Arrested for Saturday Shooting That Left 1 Dead, Another Injured   All of this and more is coming up on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe! BREAK: CU of GA – ESOG STORY 1: A fire broke out at the Franklin at East Cobb apartment complex on Franklin Gateway in Marietta, Georgia. The fire occurred in a building with 20 units, causing substantial fire and water damage to 10 of them. Twenty-two residents were displaced, but there were no injuries or fatalities. Firefighters from Cobb County and Marietta fought the flames for over two hours. The Red Cross arrived to provide temporary shelter and supplies for those affected. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the complex's management declined to comment on the incident. Residents hope this tragedy will help foster a sense of community in the complex.......…….Get more stories like this from mdjonline.com     STORY 2: A three-judge federal court panel has rejected Georgia's attempt to prevent a lawsuit challenging the state's congressional map from proceeding. Georgia voters, represented by civil rights and voting rights groups, filed a lawsuit claiming that the state's congressional redistricting maps, approved by the Republican-majority General Assembly, were gerrymandered in a way that made it difficult for Black Georgians to elect congressional representatives of their choice. The lawsuit targets the 6th, 13th, and 14th congressional districts. The case will go to trial next month, and if the state loses, it could lead to a special legislative session to redraw the congressional map.   STORY 3: Joshua Jerell Guy, a Marietta man, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly shooting two men in the early hours of Saturday morning, killing one and injuring the other. The incident occurred at a home near Dobbins Air Reserve Base. Ciprian Hernandez, 33, was killed, and Leonardo Wilkins, 35, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Guy was charged with one count of murder and two counts of aggravated assault. He was apprehended by the department's Violent Crimes Bureau and is currently held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond........................…..(pause)   We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. This award recognizes Dr. Rivera's unwavering commitment to the betterment of Georgia's children. Dr. Rivera expressed that education is not just about imparting knowledge but nurturing each child's potential. He emphasized the importance of equipping students with the tools to thrive in a changing world. The GSCA Professional Recognition Selection Committee selected Dr. Rivera based on his significant contributions to the education profession, citing his dedication to Georgia's children. The GSCA supports school counselors in their mission to promote student success through professional development, resources, and advocacy. The association commended Dr. Rivera for his high standards of quality and professionalism.   STORY 5: Sterigenics, a medical equipment manufacturer, has agreed to a $35 million settlement to resolve lawsuits brought by 79 individuals who alleged that the company's ethylene oxide emissions from its Smyrna plant harmed their health. The settlement denies liability, with Sterigenics maintaining that its emissions do not pose a safety hazard to the surrounding communities. This controversy has been ongoing since 2019 when it was revealed that the plant's ethylene oxide emissions posed elevated health risks. Numerous residents and workers have sued the company, and claims related to personal injuries in Cobb County State Court are set to move forward in 2024. The settlement is subject to plaintiffs' agreement to its terms and payment.   We'll be back in a moment Break: DRAKE – INGLE 5– POWERS   STORY 6: Georgia Military College has expanded its scholarship program, offering the GMC Law Enforcement & Public Safety Scholarship to include the spouses and dependents of first responders who enroll at GMC's Main Campus, satellite campuses, or its Global Online Leadership College. Lt. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV, President of Georgia Military College, highlighted the college's commitment to those who serve and protect their communities, recognizing the sacrifices made by first responders and their families. The scholarship program aims to make high-quality education more accessible to both first responders and their families as they pursue associate's or bachelor's degrees.   STORY 7: A new Indian restaurant called Verandah, located near East Cobb Park, aims to create a gathering space reminiscent of traditional Indian verandahs, where people come to socialize and enjoy food and drinks in an open-air setting. Co-owners Prabhkar Yelamanchila and Neeraja Punnam combined the bold flavors of southern and northern Indian cuisines to offer a balanced dining experience. They offer dishes like biryani and tandoori platters, cooked in a traditional clay oven called a tandoor. The restaurant has received a warm welcome from the community, with strong weekend demand prompting plans to register with online delivery services. Verandah is open Tuesday to Sunday. We'll have closing comments after this.   Break: JRM (KENNESAW) – Henssler :60 Signoff- Thanks again for hanging out with us on today's Marietta Daily Journal podcast. It is Christmas Eve, and Bluey tries to sneak over and peak at a present. Her dad catches her and tells her that Santa doesn't give presents to naughty children—setting up the whole episode. Bluey, Bingo, and Muffin, then run off apologizing to people all over the place for knocking into them because they want Santa to know they are good kids. They play a game with Bandit and end up having a great time. But when Socks comes in and bites Bluey, Bluey gets bitter and sets out to teach socks a lesson. Bluey learns the real reason you should be nice to someone…and it's not because Santa is always watching. It's a good lesson for parents to not threaten kindness out of your kids, but rather to show that they ought to treat others the way they'd want to be treated.

Journey with this Indian family, and their desire to share their culture through food.  You'll hear from the mother, daughter and son--Radhika, Maithali and Shantanu. Their perspectives are wonderfully presented. Radhika came to the US as an architecture student. Met her husband, and after getting married and having her two lovely children, she started cooking for friends.  That evolved into cooking at the farmers markets, to cooking in food halls, and now settles into a distinctly independent restaurant. They're serving small plates. Radhika, whose curiousity for India's history and cuisine never grows old. Some months they have a Regional Cuisine menu. It's the family's way of sharing lesser known dishes from small towns and regions. As we have Nashville Chicken, they have equally curious dishes, and this is a wonderful way to experience the breadth of India's history and culture in a 3, 4, or 5 course meal. We do not hear Amit's voice, the husband, father and architect in the family. Happy Fathers Day to all the unique and wonderful fathers who nurture the best a family can give in a community. Thank you to all the immigrants who settle in the US and share so much! Their voices and stories are infectious. They enjoy and care what they serve, and are eager for you to enjoy India's amazing food culture.  Website Instagram

We have seen video clips of soldiers shooting into people's houses and Kalemyo, a popular stop on Chindwin cruises, was shelled by artillery last week. This is a genocide by the army against their own people.Paul Strachan founder of Pandaw “Thank you for your kindness in supporting Burma at this time. We have to date raised just over USD120,000Our Pandaw clinic medical teams have been treating a number of gunshot wounds and have ramped up operations to extend to a broader area beyond the seven villages where they normally run day clinics. With these funds we have been able to expand our usual GP clinics with free medications to a much larger geographical area and to more people across rural Burma, many of whom are now in dire circumstances due to the collapse of the economy. As part of this we have also been handing out food parcels like those shown here, each of which costs USD8. We have now delivered 500 of these and hope to roll out more using Pandaw crew members as volunteers. With markets closed, all forms of business and trading shut down, and nearly all work opportunities finished, people are now suffering from real hunger. I know just 500 parcels in a country of fifty-six million is a mere drop in the ocean, but it is better than nothing. However, once we get the logistics up to speed (purchasing and delivery) I believe we can move a lot more.Details of how to support Pandaw and their work to support their community https://www.pandaw.com/river-cruise-news/pandaw-clinics-emergency-appeal Cruise ships' assist efforts in St. Vincent volcano eruptionThe Royal Caribbean and Celebrity ships each have about 100 crew on board and rushed from their layup in Barbados to assist last week, as did the two Carnival vessels that also have been laid up in the region. Two Carnival Cruise Line ships were released from standby off St. Vincent Tuesday, even as Soufrière volcano continued erupting, while a pair of Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises vessels remained in the vicinity.Over the weekend, Royal Caribbean International's Serenade of the Seas carried 137 evacuees from St. Vincent to St. Lucia, Celebrity Reflection has also been on hand.Though as many as 20,000 people have reportedly fled the northern region where Soufrière is located, the Associated Press said Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves might call off the cruise ships since most people are staying on island for now. LISTENER QUESTION:Samuel asks Baz, “Love the quick fire round you have for guests, can you do one with Chris on QM2”Sunrise / SunsetShow time in Royal Court Theatre or Enrichment in IlluminationsAfternoon Tea in Queens Room Ballroom or Quiet moment in Carinthia Lounge?Day ashore or enrichment at sea?In the Commodore Club, my shout, what are you drinking?Speciality Dining in Verandah or traditional Pub Lunch in Golden Lion?Treatment in the Canyon Ranch Spa or relaxing day by the pool?Favourite Location on Qm2If you could sail on her tomorrow, where and why?EMMA CRUISES: Emma Le Teace joins us this week to share the excitement that is building in the UK as the restart of cruising approaches. What Makes John R Wood Properties and Dean Chiusano Good Neighbors...Originally from the Upstate New York area, Dean grew up in the town of Clifton Park which sits evenly between the cities of Saratoga and Albany. After graduating high school he attended Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts with a degree in Communications. As a student athlete at Stonehill, Dean first became familiar with South Florida during his annual spring training trip to the Naples and Fort Myers area. Upon graduating from Stonehill, Dean was offered a finance position in Naples with a private family owned business where he has spent the last twelve years. Having resided in both Naples and Fort Myers, Dean has an extensive knowledge of SWFL. After years of developing friendships, business relationships and noticing continual growth to the area, Dean decided that helping people find their own piece of paradise was something he was interested in pursuing. Dean currently resides in the Verandah with his wife Melissa. When he is not trading stocks or selling homes he enjoys spending time listening to music, traveling, playing his guitar, and playing golf.To learn more about John R Wood Properties and Dean Chiusano, go to: https://deanchiusano.com/John R Wood Properties15065 McGregor BlvdFort Myers, FL 33908518-542-5611Support the show (https://goodneighborpodcast.com)

SPOILER ALERT! We know every episode of Gotta Be Done is spoilers galore, but there's high risk you haven't actually seen Verandah Santa yet BECAUSE IT JUST DROPPED AT 6AM TODAY! (In Australia, that is - get ye to ABC iView, Aussies!) But if you have already done the early wake-up and delighted in this long-awaited Bluey Christmas episode, we invite you to strap yourselves in, kids! It's the most wonderful time of the year - but if we're honest, Verandah Santa feels like a bit of a lone festive highlight amidst the shopping centre madness, packed schedules, and constant Santa-based threats we're doling out to our kids.  Yep, the true meaning of Christmas can be hard to find, but of course Bandit and Chilli have a learning moment for all of us - even if we're struggling to see past their extreme seasonal decorating efforts. Hope the season is a kind one for all our beautiful Gotta Be Done family, with minimal hits to the balls, and plenty of pavlova to go around! (Oh, and that the tunes are as good as Verandah Santa's Joff Bush-Emma Dean-Joe Twist-Jazz D'Arcy medly of perfection, too!) We'll be back to recapping in 2020, thanks for all the love and listens this year, and can't wait dive back in from January! ++ Gotta Be Done is ex-journos and Melbourne mums Kate McMahon and Mary Bolling, as we deep-dive every Bluey episode, with plenty of detours into mama life, childhood memories, and everything else we're bingeing, too!
