The conspiracy aimed at securing a $1.3 billion bailout, with over $60 million paid by FirstEnergy and its subsidiary to influence political figures. A special master revealed that FirstEnergy continues to cooperate with federal prosecutors. Former House Speaker Larry Householder and GOP Chairman Matt Borges were sentenced for their roles, while a former subsidiary, now Energy Harbor, is ordered to provide more cooperation in a federal class-action suit. The investigation persists, with ongoing efforts to uncover communications and implications beyond named executives.Former House Speaker Larry Householder, R-Glenford, and former GOP Chairman Matt Borges in June were respectively sentenced to 20 and five years in federal prison for their roles in the conspiracy. Wheeler heads West to face team of NBA legacies; Pebblebrook tabbed for 'Battle of the Bands.'

Marietta Daily Journal Podcast

The Wheeler boys basketball team is no stranger to taking on some of the best high school programs in the country. Just this season, the number 1 Wildcats have already played Kimball High School from Texas, Columbus from Florida, Imhotep Charter School of Pennsylvania, Tampa Catholic,  Centennial from Calif. and John Marshall from Virginia in various events. At home, Wheeler has already played defending Class 6A champion Grovetown, will see Number 10 Osborne twice in region play, Newton in a non-region game, and there is a chance Wheeler could meet up with Pebblebrook or McEachern in the playoffs. However, this weekend, Wheeler may be playing the most star-studded high school team in the United States — Sierra Canyon from the Los Angeles outskirts of Chatsworth, California. Wheeler will travel to Los Angeles to compete in The Chosen 1's Invitational, a high school showcase put on in conjunction by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, Nike and NBA superstar LeBron James. The games will be played at the Galen Center on the campus of Southern California, the future basketball home of Wheeler five-star point guard Isaiah Collier and four-star forward Arrinten Page. Wheeler was contacted about playing in Saturday's game a couple of months ago. Camden from New Jersey, with the top recruit Dejuan Wagner, was supposed to play, but something happened and a space opened up. While Wheeler boasts the future Southern Cal duo, four-star guard Jelani Hamilton who is headed to Iowa State and three-star forward Josh Hill, it will face a team highlighted by four sons of NBA stars. Sierra Canyon features James' sons, Bronny and Bryce James, as well as Justin Pippen and Ashton Hardaway. Pippen is the son of Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, while Hardaway's father is former NBA star and current Memphis coach Penny Hardaway. The Trailblazers also feature five-star shooting guard Isaiah Elohim, four-star forward Bryce Cofield, three-star forward Noah Williams, three-star forward Jimmy Oladokun and JoJo Phillips, a three-star wide receiver on the Sierra Canyon football team who has signed with BYU. Hardaway has signed to play for his father at Memphis, while Oladokun has signed with San Diego. Of the remainder of the roster, Bronny James is the only other senior. The Wheeler-Sierra Canyon game, set for an 11 p.m. Eastern tip and streamed by the NFHS Network, is one of four on the schedule for The Chosen 1's Invitational. The event will also feature the boys and girls teams from St. Vincent-St. Mary's Catholic High School, LeBron James' alma mater in Akron, Ohio. A group of Cobb families that sued the Cobb County School District over its lack of certain COVID-19 protocols, such as a mask mandate, has won an appeal in federal court. The suit, first filed in October 2021, argued that Cobb School District's failure to follow guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention denied students with disabilities, medical conditions and respiratory ailments access to a safe, in-person learning environment. The plaintiffs are four unnamed Cobb students and their parents, and are represented by the Southern Poverty Law Center and two metro Atlanta law firms. The defendants are CCSD, Superintendent Chris Ragsdale and the school board's four Republicans. The students all have disabilities, such as muscular dystrophy, leukemia and respiratory conditions, and argued they are at risk of severe symptoms or death should they be infected with COVID-19. Adding to that risk, they argued, was the district's choice to loosen its COVID policies ahead of the 2021-2022 school year, including not requiring masks to be worn in schools. As such, the children were forced to opt into virtual learning courses, causing them “irreparable harm” and subjecting them to discrimination. The Southern Poverty Law Center argues the district violated the students' civil rights as enshrined by the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. The appeals court sent the case back to the district court, ordering it to “analyze whether virtual schooling is a reasonable accommodation for in-person schooling, not education in general.” Cobb schools did not immediately reply to a request for comment. Cobb's own Pebblebrook High School is one of two Atlanta-area high schools that will be featured in a prestigious marching band showcase in February.  The HBCU All-Star Battle of the Bands will feature marching bands from four historically Black colleges and universities, as well as those from Pebblebrook and Westlake high schools. The event will take place Saturday, February 4 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.  The Pebblebrook band's participation in the event will come just over a month after the Mighty Marching Machine traveled to New Orleans to perform at the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The HBCU All-Star Battle of the Bands, which has also partnered with Allstate for the event, will host a college fair at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta before the showcase, according to a news release. Forty-five different HBCUs from around the country will waive student application fees, accept applications on-site, and even offer opportunities for scholarships. High school students and recent graduates are invited to attend the college fair, averaging 7,000 attendees in past years, prior to the band performances from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on February 4.  A familiar name in the Kennesaw dining scene is back, this time with a new restaurant offering a fresh take on Mexican and Southwestern cuisine. Bernardo's Modern-Mex, owned by Brett and Laura Olszeski, is now open in downtown Kennesaw. It takes the place of Trackside Grill, which the Olszeski family owned and operated for 20 years. A recent remodel brought Bernardo's to life in the former Trackside space. The new restaurant includes a spacious dining room and an indoor patio with a fireplace. A planned rooftop bar is supposed to open sometime in the spring.  Bernardo's is a return to Brett Olszeski's roots in the restaurant industry, which he said was some time in the making. The "family" in this family business is also connected to the cuisine: Brett and wife Laura met in a Mexican restaurant. Bernardo's may sound familiar to another restaurant the Olszeski family owns and operates across the street: Bernie's Social Bar, which has been open in downtown Kennesaw for five years. Brett Olszeski explained that "Bernie" is a family name, and Bernardo a Spanish variation of the name: Brett's father was named Bernard, Brett's middle name is Bernard, and Brett's brother is named Bernie.  Brett said Bernardo's is not your typical Tex-Mex. The restaurant's main culinary influences come not from Texas but from Mexico, Arizona and New Mexico. All of the food is fresh, and Brett says the restaurant hopes to serve as many as 40 different tequilas.  As the clouds gave way to sunshine Wednesday afternoon, much of Cobb had dried up after heavy rain Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. However, the effects of the deluge were still felt in some parts of the county, notably Noonday Creek Park and East Cobb Park. Cobb County Parks announced late Wednesday morning the two parks would be “closed until further notice” because of flooding, though just before noon, it announced East Cobb Park would reopen at 1 p.m. The county had not announced a reopening timeline for Noonday Creek Park by 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, with the parking lot at the park that sits adjacent the creek still mostly flooded. Around 8:30 Wednesday morning, a county spokesperson told the MDJ the Cobb Department of Transportation was not working on any issues related to the storms that swept through the area Tuesday evening. Cobb DOT responded to four calls about flooding and one regarding a fallen tree, but those were cleared as of 8:30 a.m., according to the spokesperson. Cobb and nearly 50 other counties in Georgia were under a tornado watch until 9 p.m. Tuesday, as strong storms swept through the area after making their way across the Alabama-Georgia border. A flash flood warning was in effect for Cobb until noon Wednesday. The county postponed a test of its emergency outdoor sirens to Thursday as a result of the storms. Kennesaw State offensive coordinator Grant Chesnut will be hired as Navy football's new offensive coordinator, multiple sources with direct knowledge of the situation told The Capital on Monday. Newly-hired head coach Brian Newberry could not be reached for comment, while senior associate athletic director for sports information Scott Strasemeier said Navy was not prepared to make any announcements regarding assistant coaches at this time. Chesnut just completed his eighth season at Kennesaw State under head coach Brian Bohannon. The Owls ranked 10th in rushing offense in the Football Championship Subdivision this season, averaging 232.2 yards per game. Chesnut coached alongside Newberry for four seasons at Kennesaw State, while Newberry served as defensive coordinator. The two matched wits in practice on a daily basis. Both men worked under Bohannon, a disciple of former Navy and Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson. #CobbCounty #Georgia #LocalNews      -            -            -            -            -            The Marietta Daily Journal Podcast is local news for Marietta, Kennesaw, Smyrna, and all of Cobb County.             Subscribe today, so you don't miss an episode! MDJOnline            Register Here for your essential digital news.            https://www.chattahoocheetech.edu/  https://cuofga.org/ https://www.esogrepair.com/ https://www.drakerealty.com/           Find additional episodes of the MDJ Podcast here.             This Podcast was produced and published for the Marietta Daily Journal and MDJ Online by BG Ad Group   For more information be sure to visit https://www.bgpodcastnetwork.com                    See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On Episode 145 of the Ballislife In The Paint Show, hosts Ronnie Flores, Chelsea Hopkins and Ani Umana chop it up with Duquesne Associate HC Dru Joyce III on building a winning basketball culture and take a look back at the 2002-03 FAB 50 national title team at St. Vincent-St. Mary's (OH) that he was part of. The ITP crew probes the paint on a scary situation surrounding Natalia Bryant (Kobe's daughter), the World Cup, Chris Brown-Thriller40 controversy at the AMAs, and the return of EA SPORTS College Football after a 10-year hiatus. Joyce III talks about joining the staff of his old high school coach Keith Dambrot after playing for him at the University of Akron. Joyce also talks about the surprising coaching transition from Dambrot to his father, Dru Joyce II, after he took over the SV-SM program in his junior season. Joyce talks about taking on stacked Oak Hill teams as an underclassman, the stinging loss in the 2002 state title game his junior year and how that loss motivated the LeBron James-led St. V's team to the 2002-03 FAB 50 title after opening up No. 7 in the FAB 50 (and No. 23 in the USA Today Super 25). Joyce also talks about his brother Cam Joyce coaching and going up against their father, reflects on his high school experience 20 years later and the motivation of the St. V's crew to springboard their success to give back to the Akron community they grew up in. He recently started two businesses whose respective missions and visions are focused on each of these areas. The first business, PGx101, is directed towards educating healthcare providers in the area of pharmacogenomics and personalized medicine. The second, EduCare4U, is focused on patient, student and healthcare provider education and enhancing patient care. Mr. Krinsky is currently an Adjunct Professor at the LECOM School of Pharmacy, serving as a course director, lecturer, and student advisor. Mr. Krinsky's areas of expertise include community pharmacy practice, drug information, patient counseling and education, OTCs, natural products, and developing and implementing medication therapy and disease state management programs. Subscribe to or Follow The Pharmacist's Voice Podcast! Apple Podcasts Google Podcasts Spotify Amazon/Audible Highlights from the interview Dan and I met at Medipreneurs in Asheville, NC.  We have a mutual acquaintance:  my Uncle Tom Titkemeier (see The Pharmacist's Voice Podcast Episode 3).  Dan was one of Uncle Tom and Aunt Janet's interns at St. V's in Toledo while attending pharmacy school at The University of Toledo College of Pharmacy. We discussed the chronological progression of Dan's career.  Why did Dan pick pharmacy school?  His Dad's best friend was a community pharmacist.  Dan wanted to go into healthcare and own his own business, so he decided to go to pharmacy school.  Dan went to grad school at UT.  He got a MS Degree in Hospital Pharmacy.  The focus was on teaching and research.  After graduating from UT with his MS Degree, Dan left Toledo for a job developing clinical services in NC.  It didn't work out.  He moved on to another job, which he discovered by searching the “Help Wanted” ads in AJHP (American Journal of Hospital Pharmacy).  A position for a clinical coordinator for the pharmacokinetics service at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham was advertised.  Although Dan felt unqualified, he ended up joining the Drug Resource Team at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham as the coordinator for the pharmacokinetics service.  He expanded the volume of consults the role formerly served.  Dan also taught Auburn Pharmacy Students.  It was a good experience, but he was on-call all the time.  The stress and time commitment weren't right for him and his family, so he and his family moved back to Ohio.   Dan then worked for Kaiser Permanente and made his first connection to Lexicomp while there.  Lexicomp has been part of Dan's life ever since.  In the mid 1990's, Dan became the 1st pharmacist in the US to hold a shared position with a college of pharmacy and a community pharmacy:  Ohio Northern University College (ONU) of Pharmacy and Ritzman Pharmacy.  Dan provided MTM services at Ritzman's before MTM had a name!  Since his time at ONU, Dan has helped NACDS replicate the shared position he had at ONU.  Today, there are hundreds of shared positions in the US. Dan co-authored 2 books on natural products for Lexicomp.  They are Natural Therapeutics Pocket Guide Drug-Induced Nutrient Depletion Handbook Dan left Ritzman's Pharmacy and went to work at Lexicomp. Lexicomp felt like a family.  It had a great company culture with company outings to Cedar Point and more.   Dan developed a RX Wiki resource.   Dan held a shared faculty position with NEOMED and Giant Eagle.  When Dan left that position, he could have retired, but he didn't!  Instead, he co-founded PGX101 and founded EduCare4U. How did Dan get into PGX?  He took the Test2Learn™️ Train the Trainer PGX Course so he could develop a PGX elective course at NEOMED and incorporate PGX into therapeutics models.  The Test2Learn™️ program was developed in conjunction with the University of Pittsburgh and NACDS (National Association of Chain Drug Stores).  According to Dan, The University of Pittsburgh is a national leader in PGX research and practice.  What came out of it was meeting Sue Paul, RPh and later spreading the word about PGX to the pharmacy profession to improve the care pharmacists provide to patients.  Sue Paul, RPh and Dan Krinsky train pharmacists on PGX.  They update the PGX101 program every time they deliver it. The profession of pharmacy has given so much to Dan that he wants to give something back.  Education is one way to give back and pay it forward.   Being good listeners (a sounding board for patients) allows us to find out how we can help our patients.  Pharmacists are the most accessible healthcare providers and the most knowledgeable on drug therapies and deprescribing. Dan shared a story about visiting a patient at home.  Dan said, “Home visits are eye-opening.  You learn about your patients.”  We talked about tools to help patients help themselves, such as motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy.  Pharmacogenomics in Dan's own words:  Applying a patient's genetic make-up to current and future drug therapies.  PGX is a tool that can lead to better outcomes. How do PGX101 students find out about the program?  LinkedIn, networking, podcasts, conferences (Medipreneurs), and organizations (APhA and OPA).   Is PGX 101 in-person or online?  It is only online using Zoom (as of January 2022).  There are two components:  15 modules for 12 hours of CE.  8 hours of live programming:  4 hours on Saturday, 4 hours on Sunday.  To learn more, visit PGX101 online. How much does PGX101 cost?  $495 for all 20 hours.  Consider it an investment in education. PGX201 is a growing community “Beyond the Certificate.”  Membership is 3 months or 12 months.  Benefits include monthly webinars and newsletters, one-on-one consultations with Sue Paul and Dan Krinsky, guest speakers, and more.  Carol Bell, PharmD (KY Pharmacist) is working on a PGX Pharmacists Registry.  According to Dan, a Kentucky teacher's retirement program provides PGX testing as a benefit for their plan.  The ROI has been demonstrated in the form of direct economic benefits.  This can serve as a model for other organizations to follow.  I suggested that this is a “bright spot” ala the book Switch: How to Change Things When Change is Hard by Chip and Dan Heath. EduCare4U is the umbrella company for all the services Dan offers.  Examples: Individual consultations with patients, some of whom have PGX testing. Writing.  For example, a monthly column for Pharmacy Today on self-care and OTC's.   Consulting.  For example:  monograph reviews for Lexicomp. Surgery center inspections Expert witness for attorneys Part-time work in two pharmacies in his area Guest lecturer at the Palm Beach Atlantic University Gregory School of Pharmacy   We spoke about Dan's expert witness role.  The first time he served this role was early in his career while working in Alabama.  The first attorney Dan helped recommended Dan do more expert witness work.  Dan told a story about an intense deposition that took hours.  Dan serves as a pharmacist on medical mission trips to Honduras each year with his local Catholic Church.  He has been doing it for 17 years, and he loves it.  Dan got started with his mission work by covering for a pharmacist who got sick and had to drop out of the trip.   Who was on the Mission Trip?  High school students who serve as Spanish-language interpreters, doctors, dentists, nurses, optometrists, pharmacists, and others who want to serve.  They see 3,000-4,000 patients in one week and dispense 15,000-20,000 prescriptions. Dan gave advice for Pharmacist Dads:  Have a career, but be present for family.  Always prioritize your family first.  Dan wanted to be present for milestones, coaching his kids, attending events, going on vacations, and taking his wife out for their anniversary.  “You never get those moments back.” Dan said, “Career is important, but pharmacy will always be there.” Thank you for listening to episode 133 of The Pharmacist's Voice ® Podcast!

In this episode we sat down in person with the head basketball coach of St. Vincent St. Mary Coach Dru Joyce II. Coach Dru is most notably known nationally for coaching The Fab 5 with Dru Joyce III, Romeo Travis, Sian Cotton, Willie McGee, and LeBron James in high school. Locally though, Coach Dru is known as a living legend, not only as a coach, but as a entrepreneur, author, devoted family man and a mentor to hundreds of young men and women throughout the city of Akron. In this episode we spoke with Coach Dru about his origins, growing up in East Liverpool, trying to find himself as a young man in college at Ohio University and how we was able to find his connection to the creator in different areas when he needed it most. This episode is filled with wisdom of a man who's commitment to faith has challenged him in ways that he didn't even see the significance in the moment, but he leaned into his faith regardless the circumstance. In episode 30 we wanted to give flowers to a great man while he's still here to receive them! Not everyday you get to chop it up with legends. Dave is a teacher, coach for over 35 years, and the man who gave me a love for history. Married for 35 years with 4 sons and 4 grandkids. Bourbon – No bourbon this week as we kick off our fitness 2021 challenge beFIT Dave was a wrestler in high school and fell in love with the sport in 9thgrade. There is a chosen suffering in wrestling and it takes a high level of discipline to succeed. Chosen Suffering is a book he recommended by Ohio State coach Tom Ryan, who lost a child. Dave recently had one of his wrestlers pass away this year that rocked his team and community. As a coach, he was able to help the team through the loss of a teammate and friend. Being able to steer them to something greater than themselves was key in giving hope to the kids suffering. One of his favorite quotes is, “Don't ask yourself what the world needs, ask yourself what makes you come alive because the world needs someone who is alive” Dave is very self-motivated when it comes to fitness and finds ways to challenge himself all the time. He set a challenge to do 20 pushups before leaving a room. Atomic Habits is a book he learned about setting systems in place to reach your goals. He took 3rd place against his team of wrestlers with 1300 pushups in 24 hours. He did 104 pushups in a row one day while on a jog. beDRIVEN Dave is a teacher but is really a coach at heart. He loved the defensive side of basketball coaching. His philosophy was “who's mom do we want to disappoint tonight?” with the goal of shutting them down. He has coached against LeBron James and John Wall. He was up at half against St. Vincent St. Marry but ended up losing the game. He has been to the final 8 in 4 different varsity sports. He has several former athletes playing professional sports now. As a coach, he had a unique opportunity to be involved in students' lives and families. He once took a student home and a man was shot on the side of the road. No matter what a student's background is by caring about them and being involved in their lives can lead to lifelong friendships. Life is about what you give to others and seeing how that comes back to you in relationships. Many times, people will come to you and want to know if they are ok and you have an opportunity to pour into their lives. Dave is a life coach. Life coaching is looking forward while counseling is looking back. Most people he is working with are from former relationships that wanted to interact and seek advice from him. Dave took courses from John Maxwell to get a certification in life coaching. You can see more about him at MB life coaching 3.0. beNOBLE “Be each other's biggest fan” is his recommendation for a healthy marriage. Never take a shot at your wife when your kids are watching. Honor her above anything else. Never allow your children to dishonor her either. Kids are resilient and many times don't remember all the things you don't do right. Focus on loving them and training them in the way they should go. As friends, sometimes it's easier to have someone else speak into your kid's life. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

The foundational pillars for The Brantley Method are Inspiration, Motivation and Education; the mission is to utilize stories as a vehicle to provide those pillars to the world in unique ways.   Romeo Travis is an example of what happens when you focus on the task at hand and make it a conscious daily effort to outwork the competition. He utilized his athletic ability, and lessons learned during his growth & development on and off the court to transcend beyond the perceived glass ceiling of his neighborhood and the things that plagued many of the young black men who come from the city of Akron and similar cities around the country.   The 2x Ohio High School Athletic Association State Champion, High School National Champion, distinguished alum of The University of Akron & International Professional Basketball player brought context to global issues and hopefully enlightened young athletes on what it takes to be successful on and off the court. We discussed the escapism that basketball and other organized youth sports provide, the ability youth athletics has to shape and mold young black lives, the sacrifice required and the price of success coupled with our responsibility to push our young black boys to BEAT ALL REQUIREMENTS!   With everything going on in the world today, Romeo Travis' story and message are very much needed and I'm thankful to have the opportunity to share it. #FreeGame #GoFURTHER
