Welcome to today's episode where we dive into a nuanced and often overlooked form of betrayal: self-betrayal. This conversation talks about the complex relationship between betrayal by others and the acts of betrayal we commit against ourselves. Our exploration will provide insights into the manifestations of self-betrayal, the underlying reasons behind this behavior, and strategies for fostering self-awareness and healing. Key Points Discussed: The Nature of Self-Betrayal: We begin by defining self-betrayal as the act of going against your best interest, despite knowing better. Examples range from harmful dietary habits to engaging in relationships or activities that lead to negative emotions and outcomes. Common Examples of Self-Betrayal: - Continuously consuming unhealthy foods despite being aware of their negative impact. -Watching content that induces anxiety and fear. - Maintaining one-sided relationships where there is more taking than giving. Understanding the 'Why' Behind Self-Betrayal: It's crucial to recognize that self-betrayal is not a reflection of your character but rather a consequence of lacking the necessary tools, strategies, self-esteem or more. This segment aims to shift your perspective from self-blame to understanding and compassion. The Role of Awareness in Addressing Self-Betrayal: We emphasize the importance of recognizing how you feel after an act of self-betrayal as your personal way to know if this is what you're doing. This awareness is a critical step towards change. Personal Stories of Self-Betrayal: Drawing from Dr. Debi's experience and insights from TEDx talks on Post Betrayal Syndrome® and self-sabotage, we share stories that highlight how self-betrayal can manifest in professional settings, personal development, and daily habits. The Consequences of Self-Betrayal: Emotional and physical tolls of self-sabotaging behaviors. The challenge of facing and moving through discomfort and unfamiliar situations. Strategies for Overcoming Self-Betrayal: Identifying and understanding the root causes of self-betrayal. Making decisions based on what "stinks less" to foster growth and self-improvement. The significance of advancing to Stage Five for clarity and strength. Final Thoughts: The episode ends with an invitation to reflect on areas of their life where self-betrayal might be occurring. Through journaling and introspection, we encourage identifying actions and mindsets that align more closely with your highest and best self. Calls to Action: Reflect on your own experiences with self-betrayal. How does it manifest in your life? What steps can you take towards healing and self-compassion? Share your thoughts and breakthroughs with us. Your journey could inspire others to recognize and address their own patterns of self-betrayal. The discussion sheds light on common questions surrounding betrayal, its aftermath, and the path toward healing and transformation. The answer is yes, highlighting that change is based on the betrayer's genuine desire for transformation and not on the expectations or desires of the betrayed. The Path to Transformation: Insights are provided into the transformation process for betrayers, emphasizing the absence of shame and blame but highlighting the importance of accountability and deep work through coaching and specific programs designed to facilitate change. Healing for the Betrayed: The healing timeline for the betrayed can vary based on lots of factors, and the importance of their own healing journey, separate from the betrayer's transformation, is important. Communication and Acknowledgment: Strategies for effective communication are shared, advising betrayers on how to acknowledge their past actions and demonstrate their commitment to change, which rebuilds trust. The Role of Fear, Anger, and Vulnerability: The episode discusses how behind anger often lies deeper emotions such as fear and sadness, and how addressing these underlying feelings can help in the healing process. The Importance of Self-Transformation: The betrayed and the betrayer need to do their own healing work. When they do, they emerge healthier and more self-aware. Rebuilding Trust and Safety: Tips are offered on rebuilding trust and creating a sense of safety within the relationship, emphasizing the betrayer's role in consistently demonstrating trustworthiness and empathy. The Impact of Betrayal on Physical and Emotional Health: The physical and emotional toll of betrayal is discussed, including the symptoms of Post Betrayal Syndrome™ and the importance of addressing these symptoms for holistic healing. Stages of Healing from Betrayal: The episode outlines the Five Stages from Betrayal to Breakthrough, encouraging listeners to move through these stages to achieve healing and transformation. When we're betrayed, our self-trust is totally shattered. There is a breakdown of body, mind & worldview. We need to regain and relearn our trust in ourselves. Our gut is so much more perceptive than our mind. ~ Dr. Debi Silber Have you ever been betrayed? Betrayal sounds like a soap-opera word–too dramatic to apply to everyday life. Yet, almost everyone has experienced betrayal at some point, either as an adult through trauma like divorce, or as a youth, when a best friend suddenly decides you aren't “cool” enough anymore and moves on without you. Think about a hurt that still hurts, even though it may have happened years ago. That's betrayal. Dr. Debi Silber, holistic psychologist and author of Trust Again, knows betrayal firsthand. More importantly, she knows how to guide those traumatized by betrayal through the 5 stages of healing where we again become healthy, whole, and are back on solid ground. Here at Brilliantly Resilient, we've experienced betrayal, and it hurts. It's also easy to get stuck in betrayal, making it a story that defines us instead of learning and choosing to move on. Dr. Silber reminds us that rebuilding after betrayal is indeed a choice. As we say in Brilliantly Resilient terms, “Are you just visiting your crisis, or are you going to live there?” In this episode of the Brilliantly Resilient podcast, Dr. Silber not only defines betrayal, but walks us through the 5 stages of healing to help us move towards “healing, rebirth, and a new worldview.” (Tune in at the 18:38 minute mark to hear about the 5 stages.) Tune in for more from Dr. Silber in this episode of the Brilliantly Resilient podcast, and be sure to listen for these additional Brilliance Bits: Betrayal lends itself to creating a new identity. Rebuilding is a choice. Hope is not a strategy. There's a collection of symptoms (physical/mental/emotional) so common to betrayal it's known as Post Betrayal Syndrome. Betrayal is a very different type of trauma. It feels personal. Let's be Brilliantly Resilient together! MFB & KS

In this episode of “The Journey of My Mother's Son” podcast, I sit down to talk with Dr. Debi Silber. Dr. Debi Silber is the founder of the Post Betrayal Transformation Institute and is a holistic psychologist, a health, mindset and personal development expert, the author of the #1 bestselling book: The Unshakable Woman: 4 Steps to Rebuilding Your Body, Mind and Life After a Life Crisis and her newest book: Trust Again: Overcoming Betrayal and Regaining Health, Confidence and Happiness. Her recent PhD study on how we experience betrayal made 3 groundbreaking discoveries that changes how long it takes to heal. In addition to being on FOX, CBS, The Dr. Oz Show, TEDx (twice) and more, she's an award-winning speaker, coach and author dedicated to helping people move past their betrayals as well as any other blocks preventing them from the health, work, relationships, confidence and happiness they want most. In her own words, Dr. Silber explains… “I can speak to how an unhealed betrayal impacts your health, relationships, work and life. I have 2 audiences: one who is struggling to heal from a painful betrayal. The other has figured out how to survive their experience and they've resigned themselves to believing that the physical, mental and emotional place they're currently in is as good as it gets. They've settled for a body, level of health, work, relationships and lifestyle that keep them "safe", stuck and small.” To find out more about Dr. Silber, check out her website at www.thepbtinstitute.com.

In this interview with Dr. Debi Silber we discuss recovering from betrayal and post betrayal syndrome. When we hear the word 'betrayal', we might simply think of infidelity or an affair. While that is most certainly a form of betrayal, that is only one form of betrayal. Betrayal can be experienced in many different ways by a variety of different people. When a parent, a friend, a business partner, a spouse, etc... doesn't show up for us in a way that we needed, or when we experience a sense of abandonment from a trusted source, that too is betrayal. Almost all of us have experienced betrayal at some level. Contrary to popular belief, betrayal isn't something from which you can simply 'forgive' and move forward on an intellectual basis. Unless we address the roots of betrayal, we stay stuck in patterns of insecurity, fear, anger, sadness, a lack of trust, physical disease and illness, and much much more. In order to heal from betrayal, our sense of 'Self' has to be completely reconstructed. In this episode of The Love Cast with Jamal, I sit down with Dr. Debi Silber to talk more about this all important subject. Dr. Debi Silber is the founder of the Post Betrayal Transformation Institute and is a holistic psychologist, a health, mindset and personal development expert, and the author of the #1 bestselling book: The Unshakable Woman: 4 Steps to Rebuilding Your Body, Mind and Life After a Life Crisis Dr. Debi Silber has appeared on FOX, CBS, The Dr. Oz Show, TEDx (twice) and more, she's an award winning speaker, coach and author dedicated to helping people move past their betrayals. Give this episode a careful listen.
Betrayal can affect your entire life - work, health, and even your relationships. While we've heard it before, “time heals all wounds”, Dr. Debi Silber joins me today with proof that this is not true. It doesn't matter if your betrayal happened decades ago, you can still experience post betrayal syndrome today. Listen in as we discuss how to heal from betrayal in your relationship and experience freedom on the other side.
